ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ salok. Shalok: ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀਆ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਨ ॥ ha-o ha-o karat bihaanee-aa saakat mugaDh ajaan. The foolish, ignorant and cynics spend their entire life indulging in their false pride and ego. ਮਾਇਆ-ਗ੍ਰਸੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਬੇਸਮਝ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਇਸੇ ਵਹਣ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਵਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਵਾਂ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ naanak gurmukh ubray je aap maylay kartaar. ||2|| O Nanak, only those followers of the Guru are saved from worldly attachments whom the Creator unites with Himself. ||2|| ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਇਸ (ਲਾਲਚ-ਰੂਪ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ
ਓਰੈ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਕਿਨਹੂ ਕੀਆ ॥ orai kachhoo na kinhoo kee-aa. In this world, no one accomplishes anything by himself. ਏਥੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਉਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਹੂਆ ॥੫੧॥ naanak sabh kachh parabh tay hoo-aa. ||51|| O Nanak, whatever has happened is according to God’s will. ||51||
ਅਪਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥ apnee kirpaa karahu bhagvanta. please bestow such a mercy of Yours, O’ God. ਆਪਣੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ, ਹੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਛਾਡਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥ chhaad si-aanap baho chaturaa-ee. O’ my mind, give up your excessive cleverness, ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸਾਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕਾਈ ॥ santan
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ pa-orhee. Pauree: ਠਠਾ ਮਨੂਆ ਠਾਹਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ thathaa manoo-aa thaaheh naahee. Thatha (alphabet): Those people do not hurt anyone’s feelings, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਦਿਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੁਖਾਂਦੇ, ਜੋ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਏਕਹਿ ਲਪਟਾਹੀ ॥ jo sagal ti-aag aykeh laptaahee. who abandon all worldly attachments and remain attuned to God alone. ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ pa-orhee. Pauree: ਯਯਾ ਜਾਰਉ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੋਊ ॥ ya-yaa jaara-o durmat do-oo. Yayaa-alphabet: Burn away duality and evil-mindedness.
