ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਸੋ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥ roopvant so chatur si-aanaa. He alone is handsome, clever and wise, (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਤੀਖਣ ਬੁੱਧਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੨॥ jin jan maani-aa parabh kaa bhaanaa. ||2|| who cheerfully surrenders to God’s will. ||2|| ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ
ਅਉਖਧ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਤੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਛਾਰੁ ॥ a-ukhaDh mantar tant sabh chhaar. In comparison to Naam, all medicines, spells and charms are as useless as dust. ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦਾਰੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੰਤਰ ਤੇ ਟੂਣੇ ਤੁੱਛ ਹਨ। ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ karnaihaar riday meh Dhaar. ||3|| Enshrine the Creator God within your heart.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਡੂਬਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਰੇ ॥੩॥ jis simrat doobat paahan taray. ||3|| By meditating whom even the stone hearted persons swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||3|| ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਪੱਥਰ-ਦਿਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਠੋਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,) ॥੩॥ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥ sant sabhaa ka-o sadaa jaikaar. Maya afflicts some through pain and others through the display of pleasure. ਮਾਇਆ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਗ਼ਮੀ ਦੇ ਅਡੰਬਰਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਫੈਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਬਿਆਪਤ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥ bi-aapat surag narak avtaar. ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਸਗਲੀ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥ ukat si-aanap saglee ti-aag. Give up all your arguments and cleverness, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਦਲੀਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਿਆਣਪਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੨॥ sant janaa kee charnee laag. ||2|| and humbly follow the teachings of the saintly persons. ||2|| ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਉ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਹਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ
ਹਸਤੀ ਘੋੜੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਾ ॥ hastee ghorhay daykh vigaasaa. He feels delighted at the sight of his elephants and horses ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਾਥੀ ਘੋੜੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ (ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ), ਲਸਕਰ ਜੋੜੇ ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸਾ ॥ laskar jorhay nayb khavaasaa.
