ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ bhairo mehlaa 5. Raag Bhairao, Fifth Guru: ਨਿਰਧਨ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਧਨਾ ॥ nirDhan ka-o tum dayvhu Dhanaa. O’ God, that spiritually poor person whom You bless with the wealth of Naam, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਜਿਸ) ਕੰਗਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਅਨਿਕ ਪਾਪ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਨਾ ॥ anik paap jaahi nirmal
ਜਿਸੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ jis larh laa-ay la-ay so laagai. Only that person focuses on Naam, whom God Himself blesses so, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੜ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੈ ॥੩॥ janam janam kaa so-i-aa jaagai. ||3|| and he spiritually awakens from the
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਾ ॥ sabh meh ayk rahi-aa bharpooraa. God is pervading all beings, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਜਾਪੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ so jaapai jis satgur pooraa. but he alone lovingly remembers Him whom the perfect true Guru inspires. (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ)
ਹਰਾਮਖੋਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਤੂਠਾ ॥ haraamkhor nirgun ka-o toothaa. When God becomes merciful even on a unvirtuous, who keeps eye on other’s property, ਪਰਾਇਆ ਹੱਕ ਖਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੂਠਾ ॥ man tan seetal man amrit voothaa. his mind and body becomes
ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਮੈਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਵਜਲਿ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ ahaN-buDh durmat hai mailee bin gur bhavjal fayraa. ||3|| Due to arrogance, their intellect is evil and distorted; without the Guru’s teachings, they keep making rounds in the world-ocean of vices. ||3| ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਕਲ ਖੋਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਮੈਲੀ ਹੋਈ

ਖਟੁ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਮੂਰਖੈ ਸੁਨਾਇਆ ॥ khat saastar moorkhai sunaa-i-aa. If the six Shaastras (the Hindu holy books) are recited to a fool, ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਨਪੜ੍ਹ ਮੂਰਖ ਨੂੰ ਛੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਜਾਣ, ਜੈਸੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ jaisay dah dis pavan jhulaa-i-aa. ||3|| for him it is as useless as wind blowing all around. ||3||
