ਲਿਖੇ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥ likhay baajhahu surat naahee bol bol gavaa-ee-ai. However, without preordained destiny one cannot get spiritually elevated; just talking about divine knowledge is useless. ਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਉੱਚੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ (ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀਆਂ) ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ। ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ
ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵੈਸੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥ maal joban chhod vaisee rahi-o painan khaa-i-aa. Abandoning your wealth and youth, you will have to leave, without any food or clothing. ਇਹ ਧਨ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਏਗਾ, ਤਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਪਹਿਨਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਏਗਾ। ਨਾਨਕ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਲਿਆ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਮਤਿਹੀਨੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਨੀਚੁ ॥ apraaDhee matiheen nirgun anaath neech. O’ God, I am a sinner, devoid of any wisdom and virtues; I am helpless and vile. ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਗੁਨਾਹਗਾਰ ਹਾਂ, ਅਕਲੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਹਾਂ, ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਣ ਹਾਂ, ਨਿਆਸਰਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੰਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਾਂ। ਸਠ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਕੁਲਹੀਨੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੋਹ ਕੀਚੁ ॥ sath kathor kulheen bi-aapat
ਚਮਤਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਏਕੁ ਤਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥ chamatkaar pargaas dah dis ayk tah daristaa-i-aa. God, the miracle of whose light is spread everywhere in the world, is revealed to the devotees. ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਨੂਰ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੀ ਝਲਕ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ) ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ
ਗੁਪਤ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ gupat pargat jaa ka-o araaDheh pa-un paanee dinas raat. whom the invisible and visible beings worship day and night and the wind and water follow His command; ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਅਣਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ-ਜੰਤੂ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਵਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ;
ਜੈਸੀ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਚਵੈ ਬਰਸੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਮੇਹੁ ॥ jaisee chaatrik pi-aas khin khin boond chavai baras suhaavay mayhu. like the song-bird has love for the drop of rain, even when thirsty it does not drink water but keeps chirping as if requesting the cloud to come down as rain. ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪਪੀਹੇ
ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥ pari-o sahj subhaa-ee chhod na jaa-ee man laagaa rang majeethaa. That person’s mind is imbued with deep love of God and by His natural disposition, beloved God never abandons him. ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਉਸ
