ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਾਫੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁਆਵਗੀਰ ਸਭਿ ਉਘੜਿ ਆਏ ॥ jaa satgur saraaf nadar kar daykhai su-aavgeer sabh ugharh aa-ay. Just as a jeweler picks-out the impurities in the gold, similarly when the True Guru looks at the mortals carefully, all the selfish ones are exposed. ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਾਫ਼ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ
ਸਭਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਸਿਧਿ ਹਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ sabh kaaraj tin kay siDh heh jin gurmukh kirpaa Dhaar. Those Guru’s followers upon whom God has bestowed His grace, all their affairs are successfully accomplished. (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਹੈ), ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪੇਖਤ ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੂਪਾਦ ॥ mithi-aa naytar paykhat par tari-a roopaad. ਅਪਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ apnee kirpaa jis aap karay-i. Upon whom God shows His grace. ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੇਇ ॥੨॥ nanak so sevak gur kee mat lay-ay. ||2|| O’ Nanak, only that devotee seeks the Guru’s teachings. ||2|| ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹ ਸੇਵਕ
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਤ ਦੇ ਕਰਿ ਹਾਥ ॥ taa ka-o raakhat day kar haath. to that person He Himself provides protection. ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਨਸ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥ maanas jatan karat baho bhaat. One makes all sorts of efforts, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਬਿਰਥੇ
ਰਚਿ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ rach rachnaa apnee kal Dhaaree. Having created the creation, He has infused His might into it. ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੱਤਿਆ (ਇਸ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਾਈ ਹੈ। ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੧੮॥ anik baar naanak balihaaree. ||8||18|| O’ Nanak, I dedicate my life to Him innumerable times.

ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ purab likhay kaa likhi-aa paa-ee-ai. You receive whatever is preordained, based upon your previous deeds. ਪਿਛਲੇ ਬੀਜੇ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਹੀ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥ dookh sookh parabh dayvanhaar. God is the Giver of pain and pleasure. ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੈ
