ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਧੀਆ ਪੂਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥ manmukh jaanai aapnay Dhee-aa poot sanjog. A self-willed person thinks his children as his own. He does not understand that these relations are formed according to God’s Will. ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਧੀਆਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨੀਸਾਣਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ sachai sabad neesaan thaak na paa-ee-ai. We face no obstacle to realize God when we are blessed with the Divine word. ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੂਪ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੁਝਿ ਵਖਾਣਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ॥੧੮॥ sach sun bujh vakhaan
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥ anik jatan kartarisan naaDharaapai. all kinds of clever efforts are futile to satisfy the worldly desires. (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ। ਭੇਖ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਗਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥ bhaykh anayk agan nahee bujhai. Wearing various religious robes, does not extinguish the fire of
ਤਤੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਹਿ ਬੰਨਹਿ ਪੰਡ ਪਰਾਲਾ ॥੨॥ tat na cheeneh baneh pand paraalaa. ||2|| They do not understand the purpose of life, and keep loading themselves with the worthless bundles of straw of religious controversies. ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ) ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ, ਉਹ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਚਰਚਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਡਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ gurmukh vichahu ha-umai jaa-ay. ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥ asatpadee. Ashtapadee: ਜਹ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ jah maat pitaa sut meet na bhaa-ee. Where there is no mother, father, children, friends or siblings to help you. ਜਿਥੇ ਮਾਂ, ਪਿਉ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਮਿੱਤ੍ਰ, ਭਰਾ ਕੋਈ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਬਣਦਾ), ਮਨ ਊਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ man oohaa naam tayrai sang sahaa-ee.
