ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ DhanDhaa karti-aa nihfal janam gavaa-i-aa sukh-daata man na vasaa-i-aa. Involved in worldly affairs, one wastes his precious human life in vain; and does not enshrine God, the bestower of spiritual peace, in his mind. ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਜ਼ੀਏ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ salok mehlaa 3. Shalok, Third Guru: ਹਉਮੈ ਜਲਤੇ ਜਲਿ ਮੁਏ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਏ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥ ha-umai jaltay jal mu-ay bharam aa-ay doojai bhaa-ay. Indulged in ego, people endure much suffering and become spiritually dead; after wandering in the love of duality, when they come to the Guru’s refuge, ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਵ ਹਉਮੈ
ਮਨ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਾਇ ਬਸਿਓ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਵਤ ਧਰਾਏ ॥ man kaamnaa tirath jaa-ay basi-o sir karvat Dharaa-ay. He may desire to go and dwell at sacred places of pilgrimage, and even offer his head for sacrifice; ਆਪਣੀ ਮਨੋ-ਕਾਮਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾ ਵਸੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਆਰਾ ਰਖਾਂਏ l ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ
ਤਿਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੨॥ tinaa pichhai chhutee-ai pi-aaray jo saachee sarnaa-ay. ||2|| O’ dear, we are also saved by following the example of such persons who seek the refuge of the eternal God.||2|| ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਨਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੪॥ ha-umai maar mansaa maneh samaanee gur kai sabad pachhaataa. ||4|| Those who eradicated their ego and nipping their desire in the mind through the Guru’s word; O’ God, they realized You. ||4|| ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਨ
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ bikh maa-i-aa chit mohi-aa bhaa-ee chaturaa-ee pat kho-ay. O’ brother, the Maya which is like a poison has enticed the minds of humans; through clever tricks, one loses his honor in God’s presence. ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਲਾਕੀ
