ਤਾਰਣ ਤਰਣ ਸਮ੍ਰਥੁ ਕਲਿਜੁਗਿ ਸੁਨਤ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਬਦ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੇਰੇ ॥ taaran taran samrath kalijug sunat samaaDh sabad jis kayray. listening to whose word, we become absorbed in meditation; that Guru is like a ship in the age of kalyug, capable of ferrying us across the world-ocean of vices. ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਦਿਆਂ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਵਿਚ
ਕੀਚੜਿ ਹਾਥੁ ਨ ਬੂਡਈ ਏਕਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥ keecharh haath na bood-ee aykaa nadar nihaal. With just one glance of God’s grace, that person’s hand does not sink in the mud of worldly problems (his mind does not get entrapped in mud of vices). ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਇਕ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤਿਪਤਾਇ ॥ har parabh vayparvaahu hai kit khaaDhai tiptaa-ay. God is carefree and does not need anything, so what food satiates God i.e. what pleases Him? ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ-ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਚੀਜ਼ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ
ਆਤਮਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਨੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ aatmaa raam na poojnee doojai ki-o sukh ho-ay. They do not remember the all-pervading God, so how can they find any peace by remaining engrossed in the love for Maya? ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। (ਭਲਾ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ)
ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਦੇਵ ਸਬੈ ਮੁਨਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਮਹਾ ਸਿਵ ਜੋਗ ਕਰੀ ॥ant na paavat dayv sabai mun indar mahaa siv jog karee.All the angles and sages, including god Indira and god Shiva who practiced yoga, yet they were unable to find God’s limit, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਮੁਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਾਹ ਪਾਇਆ। ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਤੇ
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਹੈਨਿ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨੬॥ naanak naam ratay say Dhanvant hain nirDhan hor sansaar. ||26|| O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with love for God’s Name are spiritually wealthy, and the rest of the world is spiritually poor. ||26|| ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ,

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਉਧੂ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ bin sabdai ras na aavai a-oDhoo ha-umai pi-aas na jaa-ee. O’ yogi, the breath (spiritual life) does not get sustenance without the Guru’s word and the yearning for ego does not go away. ਹੇ ਜੋਗੀ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ (ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਰਸ ਨਹੀਂ
