ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਾਈ ॥ tirath naa-ee-ai sukh fal paa-ee-ai mail na laagai kaa-ee. We attain the fruit of spiritual peace by bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and are not afflicted by the filth of evils. ਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ; ਇਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ‘ਸੁਖ’, ਤੇ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ)
ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਖਾਈ ॥ kit biDh aasaa mansaa khaa-ee. How have you subdued your hopes and desires? ਮਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਨੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਏ ਹਨ? ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ kit biDh jot nirantar paa-ee. How have you found the continuous divine light within you? ਰੱਬੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਤੈਨੂੰ
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ so boojhai jis aap bujhaa-ay gur kai sabad so mukat bha-i-aa. That person alone understands this mystery, whom God Himself inspires to understand, and he is liberated from ego through the Guru’s word. ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ bin sabdai sabh doojai laagay daykhhu ridai beechaar. By reflecting in your heart, you may see for yourself that without following the Guru’s word, all are attached to duality (things other than God). ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ , ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ) ਤੋਂ
ਗੁਪਤੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ guptee banee pargat ho-ay. One to whom this secret divine word is revealed, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਲੁਕਵੀਂ ਰੱਬੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਰੌ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਖਿ ਲਏ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੫੩॥ naanak parakh la-ay sach so-ay. ||53|| he understands the worth of the eternal God’s Name, says Nanak. ||53||
ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ jin naam dee-aa tis sayvsaa tis balihaarai jaa-o. I am dedicated to that Guru who has blessed me with Naam, I would always follow his teachings. ਮੈਂ ਉਸ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ‘ਨਾਮ’ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸੋ
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ taa milee-ai jaa la-ay milaa-ay. One can unite with Him only when God Himself unites with Him. ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਏ। ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੀਤ ॥ gunvantee gun saaray neet. Only a rare virtuous soul-bride continuously contemplates God’s virtues. ਕੋਈ
ਓਹੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ oh biDhaataa man tan day-ay. That Creator-God blesses us all with body and mind. ਉਹ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ (ਸਭ ਜੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਓਹੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਇ ॥ oh biDhaataa man mukh so-ay. That Creator-God resides in the mind and mouth of all human beings. (whatever one
