ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਸੰਕ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥
antar kee gat jaanee-ai gur milee-ai sank utaar.
By surrendering to the Guru with full devotion and without skepticism, we can understand the state of our innerself.
Kwa kujisalimu kwa Guru kwa kujitolea kamili bila shaka, tunaweza kuelewa hali ya nafsi zetu.
ਮੁਇਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
mu-i-aa jit ghar jaa-ee-ai tit jeevdi-aa mar maar.
The place or state which we want to reach after death, we should try to reach that state while living, by conquering our mind.
Mahali au hali tunayotaka kufikia baada ya kufa, tunafaa kujaribu kufikia hali hiyo tunapoishi, kwa kutawala akili zetu.
ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
anhad sabad suhaavanay paa-ee-ai gur veechaar. ||2||
We can enjoy the pleasing unstruck divine music through the teachings of the Guru.
Tunaweza kufurahia muziki takatifu ya kupendeza kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.
ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਤਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ ॥
anhad banee paa-ee-ai tah ha-umai ho-ay binaas.
When we are blessed with this state of enjoying the divine word (Gurbani), then the inner ego is totally destroyed.
Wakati tunabarikiwa na hali hii ya kufurahia neno takatifu (Gurbani), basi ubinafsi wa kindani unaangamizwa.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤਾਸੁ ॥
satgur sayvay aapnaa ha-o sad kurbaanai taas.
I dedicate my life for those who truly follow the teachings of their Guru.
Naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwa wale wanaofuata kwa kweli mafundisho ya Guru wao.
ਖੜਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਨਾਈਐ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
kharh dargeh painaa-ee-ai mukh har naam nivaas. ||3||
They always recite the praises of God and are honoredin God’s court.
Daima wanakariri sifa za Mungu na wanaheshimika katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਕਾ ਮੇਲੁ ॥
jah daykhaa tah rav rahay siv saktee kaa mayl
Wherever I see I find humans indulging in Maya (worldly illusions)
Popote ninapoangalia naona binadamu wakijihusisha katika Maya (ndotoza kidunia)
ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਬੰਧੀ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜੋ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਿ ਸੋ ਖੇਲੁ ॥
tarihu gun banDhee dayhuree jo aa-i-aa jag so khayl.
The three traits of Maya hold the human body in bondage; whoever comes into the world is subject to their play.
Sifa tatu za Maya zinashika mwili wa binadamu katika utumwa; yeyote anayekuja kwenye dunia anafanyishwa mchezo yao.
ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਨ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੪॥
vijogee dukh vichhurhay manmukh laheh na mayl. ||4||
The self-willed (Manmukh) do not attain union with God, they remain alienated from Him and remain in misery.
Wenye nia ya kibinafsi (Manmukh) hawapokei muungano na Mungu, wanabaki wametengwa naye na kubaki katika taabu.
ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚ ਭੈ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
man bairaagee ghar vasai sach bhai raataa ho-ay.
Whenthe mind imbued with loving fear of God becomes detached from worldly affairs and comes to dwell within (stops wandering),
Wakati akili inayojawa na uwoga wa upendo kwa Mungu inajitenga kutoka shughuli za kidunia na kuja kuishi ndani (inaacha kuzurura),
ਗਿਆਨ ਮਹਾਰਸੁ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
gi-aan mahaaras bhogvai baahurh bhookh na ho-ay.
then it enjoys the essence of supreme spiritual wisdom; it shall never feel hunger for worldly things again.
Basi inafurahia kiini cha busara kuu ya kiroho; haitawahi kuhisi njaa ya vitu vya duniani tena.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲੁ ਭੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥੧੮॥
naanak ih man maar mil bhee fir dukh na ho-ay. ||5||18||
O’ Nanak, subdue your ego and unite with God, so that you shall never suffer in pain (of separation from God) anymore.
Ee Nanak, tiisha ubinafsi wako na uungane na Mungu, ndiposa usiwahi kuteseka tena kutokana na uchungu (wa utengano na Mungu).

ਏਹੁ ਮਨੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਲੋਭੀਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਲਗਾ ਲੋੁਭਾਨੁ ॥
ayhu mano moorakh lobhee-aa lobhay lagaa lobhaan.
O’ my foolish and greedy mind, you are attached and engrossed in greed.
Ee akili yangu mpumbavu na mwenye tamaa, umeambatana na kujihushisha na tamaa.
ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਕਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
sabad na bheejai saaktaa durmat aavan jaan.
The faithless (sakat) is not swayed by the divine word, and his evil mind suffers in the cycle of birth and death.
Asiye na imani (sakat) hashawishiki na neno takatifu, na akili yake muovu inateseka katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥
saaDhoo satgur jay milai taa paa-ee-ai gunee niDhaan. ||1||
But if he meets the True Guru, then he realizes God, the treasure of virtues.
Lakini iwapo atakutana na Guru wa kweli, kisha agundue Mungu, hazina ya fadhila.
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
man ray ha-umai chhod gumaan.
O my mind, renounce your egotistical pride.
Ee akili yangu, kataa kiburi yako ya ubinafsi.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੂ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har gur sarvar sayv too paavahi dargeh maan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Follow the teachings of the Guru, who is the image of God, the pool of immortality, so that you may receive honor in God’s court.
Fuata mafundisho ya Guru, ambaye ni ufananisho wa Mungu, kisima cha kuishi milele, ndiposa upokww heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
raam naam jap dinas raat gurmukh har Dhan jaan.
O’ my mind, remember God day and night with love and devotion, and through Guru’s grace realize the spiritual value of the wealth of Naam.
Ee akili yangu, kumbuka Mungu mchana na usiku kwa upendo na kujitolea, na kupitia neema ya Guru gundua thamani ya kiroho ya utajiri wa Naam.
ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣੇ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
sabh sukh har ras bhognay sant sabhaa mil gi-aan.
In the holy company, acquire spiritual wisdom and you will enjoy all comforts and the divine pleasures.
Katika hudhurio takatifu, pata busara ya kiroho na utafurahia faraja zote na raha takatifu.
ਨਿਤਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
nit ahinis har parabh sayvi-aa satgur dee-aa naam. ||2||
He, whom the true Guru has blessed with the gift of Naam, remembers God with love and devotion day and night.
Yeye, ambaye Guru amebariki na zawadi ya Naam, anamkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea mchana na usiku.
ਕੂਕਰ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਨੁ ॥
kookar koorh kamaa-ee-ai gur nindaa pachai pachaan.
The one who practices falsehood is like a dog. Such a person even slanders the Guru and suffers utter disgrace.
Yule anayetenda vitendo vya uwongo kama mbwa. Mtu kama huyo hata anazungumza kashfa kuhusu Guru na anateseka aibu kamili.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੈ ਖੁਲਹਾਨੁ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa dukh ghano jam maar karai khulhaan.
Doubts lead him astray, he suffers in great agony and the demon of death deals with him mercilessly .
Shaka inampotosha, anateseka katika uchungu mkuu na pepo wa kifo anakabiliana naye bila huruma.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਭਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
manmukh sukh na paa-ee-ai gurmukh sukh subhaan. ||3||
In this way, the self-conceited (Manmukh) find no peace, while the Guru’s followers are always wondrously joyful.
Kwa njia hii, wale ambao wana majivuno ya kibinafsi (Manmukh) hawapati amani, ilhali wafuasi wa Guru daima wana furaha ya ajabu.
ਐਥੈ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਿਟਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
aithai DhanDh pitaa-ee-ai sach likhat parvaan.
In this world, people are engrossed in false pursuits, but in the world hereafter, only the account of your true actions is accepted.
Katika dunia hii, watu wamejihusisha katika harakati za uwongo, lakini kwa dunia itakayofuata, rekodi ya vitendo vyako vya kweli pekee inakubalika.
ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
har sajan gur sayvdaa gur karnee parDhaan.
Therefore, serve the Guru (follow the Guru’s teachings), the intimate friend of God. The deeds done underthe Guru’s command are supreme.
Hivyo basi, tumikia Guru (fuata mafundisho ya Guru), rafiki wa karibu wa Mungu. Vitendo vinavyotendwa chini ya amri ya Guru ni vikuu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਚੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੧੯॥
naanak naam na veesrai karam sachai neesaan. ||4||19||
O’ Nanak, by God’s Grace, the one who receives His stamp of approval, he never forgets God’s Name.
Ee Nanak, kwa neema ya Mungu, anayepokea muhuri wako wa ukubali, daima hasahau jina la Mungu.

ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਵਡਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ik til pi-aaraa veesrai rog vadaa man maahi.
Forgetting the Beloved God, even for a moment, they feel as if their mind is suffering from some serious malady.
Kusahau Mungu mpendwa, hata kwa muda mfupi, wanahisi ni kama akili zao zinaugua kutokana na gonjwa hatari.
ਕਿਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ki-o dargeh pat paa-ee-ai jaa har na vasai man maahi.
How can honor be attained in His Court, if God does not dwell in the mind?
Heshima inawezaje kupatwa katika mahakama yake, iwapo Mungu haishi akilini?
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
gur mili-ai sukh paa-ee-ai agan marai gun maahi. ||1||
Therefore Meeting with the Guru, peace is found. The fire of worldly desiresis extinguished by singing His Glorious Praises.
Hivyo basi kwa kukutana na Guru, amani inapatikana. Moto ya hamu za kidunia inazimwa kwa kuimba sifa zake tukufu.
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
man ray ahinis har gun saar.
O mind, enshrine the Praises of God, day and night.
Ee akili, thamini sifa za Mungu, mchana na usiku.
ਜਿਨ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin khin pal naam na veesrai tay jan virlay sansaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Very rare are those in this world who do not forsake the Naam even for a moment.
Nadra sana ni wale duniani humu ambao hawaachi Naam hata kwa muda mfupi.
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥
jotee jot milaa-ee-ai surtee surat sanjog.
If we merge our soul with the Supreme Soul, and our mind with the Higher mind,
Tukiunganisha roho yetu na Roho Kuu, na akili yetu na akili ya juu zaidi,
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਤੁ ਗਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
hinsaa ha-umai gat ga-ay naahee sahsaa sog.
then one’s cruel and violent instincts and egotism depart, and skepticism and sorrow are taken away.
Basi silika katili na za vurugu za mtu zinaondoka, na shaka na huzuni zinaondolewa.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
gurmukh jis har man vasai tis maylay gur sanjog. ||2||
One who follows the Guru’s teaching and enshrines God in his mind, Guru blesses him the chance of union with God.
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kuweka Mungu akilini mwake, Guru anambariki na fursa ya muungano na Mungu.
ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
kaa-i-aa kaaman jay karee bhogay bhoganhaar.
If I surrender myself to God, I will experiences the similar bliss of union with God; like the young bride feels when she surrenders herself to her Master-God.
Nikijisalimisha kwa Mungu, nitahisi furaha tele sawa na muungano na Mungu; kama bi harusi mdogo anavyohisi anapojisalimisha kwa Bwana Mungu wake.
ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਕੀਜਈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਚਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
tis si-o nayhu na keej-ee jo deesai chalanhaar.
Such soul does not fall in love with the body which is definitely transient,
Roho kama hio haipendezwi na mwili ambao ni ya muda mfupi,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
gurmukh raveh sohaaganee so parabh sayj bhataar. ||3||
but is guided by the Guru, and enjoy the pleasure of union with God, Who dwells in her heart.
Lakini inaelekezwa na Guru, na kufurahia raha ya muungano na Mungu, anayeishi moyoni mwake.
