ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥
pari-o sahj subhaa-ee chhod na jaa-ee man laagaa rang majeethaa.
That person’s mind is imbued with deep love of God and by His natural disposition, beloved God never abandons him.
Akili ya mtu huyo inapenyezwa na upendo wa kina wa Mungu na kwa silika yake ya kiasili, Mungu mpendwa kamwe hamuachi.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਧੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੧॥
har naanak bayDhay charan kamal kichh aan na meethaa. ||1||
O’ Nanak, nothing else seems pleasing to the person whose mind is transfixed with the love of God. ||1||
Ee Nanak, hakuna kitu kingine kinaonekana kizuri kwa mtu ambaye akili yake imeduwazwa na upendo wa Mungu.
ਜਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਲਿ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
ji-o raatee jal maachhulee ti-o raam ras maatay raam raajay.
Just as the fish raves in the deep water, those people remain deeply engrossed in the sublime elixir of sovereign God,
Kama vile samaki anafurahia katika maji yenye kina, watu hao wanabaki wamevama kwa kina katika dawa tukufu ya Mungu mwenyezi,
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਭਾਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
gur poorai updaysi-aa jeevan gat bhaatay raam raajay.
whom the perfect Guru has imparted the teachings of meditation on Naam; they become pleasing to God, the bestower of spiritual life
yule ambaye Guru kamili ameweka ndani mwake mafundisho ya kutafakari kuhusu Naam; wanakuwa wa kupendeza kwa Mungu, mpaji wa maisha ya kiroho
ਜੀਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਆਪਿ ਲੀਏ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
jeevan gat su-aamee antarjaamee aap lee-ay larh laa-ay.
God, the bestower of spirituality in life, is the knower of all hearts. He Himself unites such Guru’s followers with Him.
Mungu, mpaji wa uroho maishani, ndiye mjua wa mioyo yote. Yeye Mwenyewe anaunganisha wafuasi wa Guru kama hao na Yeye.
ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥੋ ਪਰਗਟੋ ਪੂਰਨੋ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਏ ॥
har ratan padaaratho pargato poorno chhod na kathoo jaa-ay.
The all pervasive God reveals within them the precious Naam and they never abandons Him.
Mungu anayeenea kote anadhihirisha ndani mwao Naam yenye thamani na kamwe hawamuachi Yeye.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਘਰੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਦਾਤੇ ॥
parabh sughar saroop sujaan su-aamee taa kee mitai na daatay.
God is accomplished, beauteous and sagacious Master; His blessings always remain on those who follow the teachings of the perfect Guru.
Mungu ni Bwana aliyetimia, mzuri na mwenye hekima; baraka zake daima zinabaki kwa wale wanaofuata mafundisho ya Guru kamili.
ਜਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਤੇ ॥੨॥
jal sang raatee maachhulee naanak har maatay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, they remain imbued with the love of God, just as the fish is imbued with a love of water. ||2||
Ee Nanak, wanabaki wamepenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu, kama vile samaki ana upendo wa maji.
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
chaatrik jaachai boond ji-o har paraan aDhaaraa raam raajay.
Just as a pied-cuckoo craves for the drop of rain, similarly the saints yearn for God’s Name, the support of life.
Kama vile mlembe mwenye rangi tofauti anatamani tone la mvua, vivyo hivyo watakatifu wanatamani Jina la Mungu, tegemezo ya maisha.
ਮਾਲੁ ਖਜੀਨਾ ਸੁਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਮੀਤ ਸਭਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
maal khajeenaa sut bharaat meet sabhahooN tay pi-aaraa raam raajay.
To them, God is dearer than all the worldly wealth, family and friends.
Kwao, Mungu ni wa dhati kuliko utajiri wote wa kidunia, familia na marafiki.
ਸਭਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
sabhahooN tay pi-aaraa purakh niraaraa taa kee gat nahee jaanee-ai.
God, who is all-pervading yet detached from everything and whose state cannot be known, is dearer than all others.
Mungu, ambaye anaenea kote na ila amejitenga kutoka kila kitu na ambaye hali yake haiwezi kujulikana, ni wa dhati kuliko wote wengine.
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀਐ ॥
har saas giraas na bisrai kabahooN gur sabdee rang maanee-ai.
They do not forget God even for a single breath and morsel of food and they enjoy His love through the Guru’s word.
Hawamsahau Mungu hata kwa pumzi moja na kila kipande cha chakula na wanafurahia upendo Wake kupitia neno la Guru.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੋ ਸੰਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨੋ ਜਪਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖ ਡਾਰਾ ॥
parabh purakh jagjeevano sant ras peevno jap bharam moh dukh daaraa.
The all-pervading God is the Life of the universe; His Saints partake the nectar of Naam. By meditating on Naam they cast away the pain of doubts and worldly attachments.
Mungu anayeenea kote ndiye Uhai wa ulimwengu; Watakatifu wake wanashirika nekta safi ya Naam, kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam wanaondoa uchungu wa shaka na viambatisho vya kidunia.
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
chaatrik jaachai boond ji-o naanak har pi-aaraa. ||3||
O’ Nanak, just as a pied-cuckoo craves for the special drop of rain, similarly God’s devotee yearns for Naam, the support of life. ||3||
Ee Nanak, kama vile mlembe mwenye rangi tofauti anatamani tone maalum ya mvua, vivyo hivyo mtawa wa Mungu anatamani Naam, tegemezo ya maisha.
ਮਿਲੇ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਨੋਰਥੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
milay naraa-in aapnay maanoratho pooraa raam raajay.
Those who unite with God, their purpose of human life is accomplished.
Wale wanaoungana na Mungu, kusudi lao la maisha ya kibinadamu linatimizwa.
ਢਾਠੀ ਭੀਤਿ ਭਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਭੇਟਤ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੂਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥
dhaathee bheet bharamm kee bhaytat gur sooraa raam raajay.
The wall of doubt which separated them from God crumbles down upon meeting and following the teachings the brave Guru.
Ukuta wa shaka ambao uliwatenganisha kutoka kwa Mungu unaporomoka punde tu wanapokutana na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru jasiri.
ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਾਏ ਸਭ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
pooran gur paa-ay purab likhaa-ay sabh niDh deen da-i-aalaa.
Only those meet the perfect Guru who are so predestined by God, the treasure of all virtues and the merciful Master of the meek.
Wao pekee wanakutana na Guru kamili ambao wameagiziwa mapema hivyo na Mungu, hazina ya fadhila zote na Bwana wa wapole mwenye huruma.
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥
aad maDh ant parabh so-ee sundar gur gopaalaa.
They firmly believe that the most beautiful God, the Master of the universe was present in the beginning, is present in the middle and would be there the end.
Wanaamini kwa uthabiti kwamba Mungu mzuri zaidi, Bwana wa ulimwengu alikuwepo mwanzoni, yupo sasa hivi na atakuwepo mwishowe.
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਾ ॥
sookh sahj aanand ghanayray patit paavan saaDhoo Dhooraa.
One who is blessed with the Guru’s teachings, which can sanctify even the sinners, attains peace, poise and immense bliss.
Yule ambaye amebarikiwa na mafundisho ya Guru, ambaye yanaweza kutakaza hata watenda dhambi, anapata amani, utulivu na raha tele.
ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਾਨੋਰਥੋੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥
har milay naraa-in naankaa maanoratho pooraa. ||4||1||3||
O’ Nanak, the person who unites with the immaculate God, his purpose in life is accomplished. ||4||1||3||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਈ ਜਪਾਤ ॥
jaa ka-o bha-ay kirpaal parabh har har say-ee japaat.
Only they meditate on God’s Name upon whom God showers His Grace.
Wao pekee wanatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu ambao Mungu ananyunyuzia Neema yake.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਭੇਟਤ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਤ ॥੧॥
naanak pareet lagee tinH raam si-o bhaytat saaDh sangaat. ||1||
But, O’ Nanak, it is only upon joining the holy congregation that they are imbued with God’s love. ||1||
Lakini, Ee Nanak, ni kwa kujiunga na ushirika mtakatifu pekee ambapo wanapenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu.

ਜਲ ਦੁਧ ਨਿਆਈ ਰੀਤਿ ਅਬ ਦੁਧ ਆਚ ਨਹੀ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰੇ ॥
jal duDh ni-aa-ee reet ab duDh aach nahee man aisee pareet haray.
O’ my mind, love of God for the human soul is like that of water for the milk. Just as water does not let milk burn, similarly God does not allow the devotee’s soul to be tainted by vices.
Ee akili yangu, upendo wa Mungu kwa roho ya binadamu ni kama ule wa maji kwa maziwa. Kama vile maji hayaachi maziwa yaungue, vivyo hivyo Mungu haruhusu roho ya mtawa ichafuliwe na maovu.
ਅਬ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲੇਹ ਬਾਸਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਮਗਨ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਟਰੈ ॥
ab urjhi-o al kamlayh baasan maahi magan ik khin bhee naahi tarai.
The bumble bee enticed by the fragrance of lotus flower, does not leave it even for a moment and gets entangled in the petals.
Nyuki bambi aliyevutiwa na manukato ya ua la yungiyungi, haliachi hata kwa muda mfupi na ananaswa katika petali zake.
ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਟਰੀਐ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰੀਐ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਹਭਿ ਰਸ ਅਰਪੀਐ ॥
khin naahi taree-ai pareet haree-ai seegaar habh ras arpee-ai.
Similarly, we should not desist from the love of God and we ought to sacrifice all our bodily decorations and worldly pleasures for the sake of this Divine love.
Vivyo hivyo, hatufai kuacha upendo wa Mungu na tunapswa kutoa dhabihu mapambo yetu yote ya kimwili na raha za kidunia kwa ajili ya upendo huu Mtakatifu.
ਜਹ ਦੂਖੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਭਣੀਐ ਤਹ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਡਰਪੀਐ ॥
jah dookh sunee-ai jam panth bhanee-ai tah saaDhsang na darpee-ai.
By joining the holy congregation one is not afraid of even such a path laid out by the demon of death where painful cries are heard.
Kwa kujiunga na ushirika mtakatifu mtu haogopi hata njia iliyoandaliwa na pepo wa kifo ambapo vilio cha uchungu vinasikika.
ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣੀਐ ਸਗਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੇ ॥
kar keerat govind gunee-ai sagal paraachhat dukh haray.
Therefore, keep singing the praises of God because He destroys all our sorrows and regrets.
Hivyo basi, endelea kuimba sifa za Mungu kwa sababu Yeye anaangamiza huzuni na majuto yetu yote.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ਐਸੀ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥
kaho naanak chhant govind har kay man har si-o nayhu karayhu aisee man pareet haray. ||1||
Nanak says, O’ my mind keep singing songs of God’s praises and enshrine the love of God in your mind. The love with God should be like that of water and milk or bee and flower. ||1||
Nanak anasema, Ee akili yangu endelea kuimba nyimbo za sifa za Mungu na uthamini upendo wa Mungu akilini mwako. Upendo na Mungu unafaa kuwa kama ule wa maji na maziwa au nyuki na ua.
ਜੈਸੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਨੀਰ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਨਾ ਧੀਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥
jaisee machhulee neer ik khin bhee naa Dheeray man aisaa nayhu karayhu.
O’ my mind, develop such a love for God as a fish has for water, when fish is separated from water it does not rest even for a moment till it die;
Ee akili yangu, sitawisha upendo kama huo kwa Mungu kama samaki anavyo kwa maji, wakati samaki anatenganishwa kutoka kwa maji hapumziki hata kwa muda mfupi hadi afe,
