ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਛੋਟ ॥੧॥
sant parsaad janam maran tay chhot. ||1||
By the Grace of the Saints, one is released from the cycles of birth and death.
Kwa Neema ya Watakatifu, mtu anafanywa huru kutoka mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
sant kaa daras pooran isnaan.
The Blessed Vision of the Saints is like a perfect bath at the holy places.
Mwono uliobarikiwa wa Watakatifu ni kama kuoga kamili kwenye pahali takatifu.
ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant kirpaa tay japee-ai naam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By the Grace of the Saints, one starts to meditate on God’s Name.
Kwa Neema ya Watakatifu, mtu anaanza kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਸੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
sant kai sang miti-aa ahaNkaar.
In the congregation of the Saints, egotism is destroyed,
Katika ushirika wa Watakatifu, ubinafsi unaangamizwa,
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
darisat aavai sabh aykankaar. ||2||
and God is seen pervading everywhere.
Na Mungu anaonekana akienea kote.
ਸੰਤ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਆਏ ਵਸਿ ਪੰਚਾ ॥
sant suparsan aa-ay vas panchaa.
By the pleasure of the Saints, the five vices come under control,
Kwa mapenzi ya Watakatifu, maovu tano yanaweza kudhibitiwa,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਲੈ ਸੰਚਾ ॥੩॥
amrit naam ridai lai sanchaa. ||3||
and the person collects the Ambrosial Name of God in his heart.
Na mtu huyo anakusanya Jina la Mungu lenye Ambrosia moyoni mwake.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਮ ॥
kaho naanak jaa kaa pooraa karam.
Says Nanak, the one whose karma (destiny) is perfect,
Nanak anasema, yule ambaye karma (hatima) yake ni kamili,
ਤਿਸੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ॥੪॥੪੬॥੧੧੫॥
tis bhaytay saaDhoo kay charan. ||4||46||115||
touches the feet of the Holy. (has the fortune of meeting with the Guru).
Anagusa miguu ya Watakatifu. (ana bahati njema ya kukutana na Guru).

Raag Gauree, by the Fifth Guru:
Raag Gauree, na Guru wa Tano:
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਪਤ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸੈ ॥
har gun japat kamal pargaasai.
Meditating the virtues of God, one feels delighted.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu fadhila za Mungu, mtu anahisi amefurahia.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਸਭ ਨਾਸੈ ॥੧॥
har simrat taraas sabh naasai. ||1||
By remembering God with love and devotion, all fears are dispelled.
Kwa kumkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea, woga wote unaondolewa.
ਸਾ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
saa mat pooree jit har gun gaavai.
Perfect is that intellect, by which the Glorious Praises God are sung.
Kamili ni akili hiyo, ambayo kuipitia Sifa Tukufu za Mungu zinaimbwa.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
vadai bhaag saaDhoo sang paavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
However this perfect intellect is obtained by the person who by great good fortune finds the holy congregation.
Hata hivyo akili hii kamili inapatwa na mtu ambaye kwa bahati nzuri kuu anapata ushirika takatifu.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
saaDhsang paa-ee-ai niDh naamaa.
In the Saadh Sangat (holy congregation), the treasure of the Name is obtained.
Katika Saadh Sangat (ushirika takatifu), hazina ya Jina hilo inapatikana.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੨॥
saaDhsang pooran sabh kaamaa. ||2||
and in the company of the saints, all tasks are fulfilled.
Na katika uandamano wa watakatifu, kazi zote zinatimizwa.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
har kee bhagat janam parvaan.
Through God’s devotional worship, one’s life is approved.
Kupitia ibada ya kujitolea kwa Mungu, maisha ya mtu yanaidhinishwa.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
gur kirpaa tay naam vakhaan. ||3||
By Guru’s Grace, one chants the Naam, the Name of God.
Kwa Neema ya Guru, mtu anaimba Naam, Jina la Mungu.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
kaho naanak so jan parvaan.
Says Nanak, that humble being is accepted in God’s court,
Asema Nanak, kiumbe huyo nyenyekevu anakubalika katika mahakama ya Mungu,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੪੭॥੧੧੬॥
jaa kai ridai vasai bhagvaan. ||4||47||116||
within whose heart dwells God’s Name.
ambaye ndani mwa moyo wake mnaishi Jina la Mungu.

Raag Gauree, na Guru wa Tano:
ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
aykas si-o jaa kaa man raataa.
The person whose mind is imbued with the love of God,
Mtu ambaye akili yake imejawa na upendo wa Mungu,
ਵਿਸਰੀ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਰਾਈ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
visree tisai paraa-ee taataa. ||1||
he forgets jealousy with others.
Anasahau wivu kwa wenginw.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
bin gobind na deesai ko-ee.
He sees none other than God.
Yeye haoni mwengine ila Mungu.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karan karaavan kartaa so-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He believes that it is the same Creator who is the cause and doer of everything.
Yeye anaamini kwamba ni Muumba huyo mmoja ambaye ni msingi na mtendaji wa vyote.
ਮਨਹਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
maneh kamaavai mukh har har bolai.
The person who meditates on God’s Name with full attention of mind,
Mtu anayetafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa makini kamilifu ya akili,
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ॥੨॥
so jan it ut kateh na dolai. ||2||
that person never wavers in this world or the next world.
Mtu huyo kamwe hayumbi katika dunia hii na dunia itakayofuata.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੋ ਸਚ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
jaa kai har Dhan so sach saahu.
The person who has the wealth of Naam is truly wealthy.
Mtu ambaye ana utajiri wa Naam kwa kweli ni tajiri.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਵਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੩॥
gur poorai kar deeno visaahu. ||3||
The perfect Guru has established that person’s recognition with God.
Guru kamili ameanzisha utambuzi wa mtu huyo na Mungu.
ਜੀਵਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
jeevan purakh mili-aa har raa-i-aa.
The one who has realized God, who is all pervading and is the life support of all.
Yule ambaye amegundua Mungu, ambaye anaenea kote na ndiye tegemezo ya maisha kwa wote.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੮॥੧੧੭॥
kaho naanak param pad paa-i-aa. ||4||48||117||
Nanak says, that person has attained the supreme spiritual status.
Nanak anasema, mtu huyo amefikia hadhi kuu ya kiroho.

Raag Gauree, na Guru wa Tano:
ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
naam bhagat kai paraan aDhaar.
God’ Name is the life-breath of devotee.
Jina la Mungu ni pumzi ya uhai ya mtawa.
ਨਾਮੋ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੋ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
naamo Dhan naamo bi-uhaar. ||1||
The Naam is his wealth and Naam is the true trade.
Naam ni utajiri wake na Naam ni biashara halisi.
ਨਾਮ ਵਡਾਈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
naam vadaa-ee jan sobhaa paa-ay.
Through God’s Name, one obtains glory and honor here and in His court.
Kupitia Jina la Mungu, mtu anapata utukufu na heshima humu na katika mahakama Yake.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirpaa jis aap divaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But only God Himself in His mercy bestows it through the Guru.
Lakini Mungu mwenyewe pekee katika huruma yake anaitawaza kupitia kwa Guru.
ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤ ਕੈ ਸੁਖ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥
naam bhagat kai sukh asthaan.
His devotee obtains state of bliss through God’s Name.
Mtawa wake anapata hali ya raha tele kupitia Jina la Mungu.
ਨਾਮ ਰਤੁ ਸੋ ਭਗਤੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
naam rat so bhagat parvaan. ||2||
The devotee who is imbued with Naam is approved in God’s court.
Mtawa ambaye amejawa na Naam anaidhinishwa katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
har kaa naam jan ka-o Dhaarai.
God’s Name is the support of His devotee.
Jina la Mungu ni tegemezo ya mtawa wake.
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
saas saas jan naam samaarai. ||3||
With each and every breath, a devotee dwells on God’s Name.
Kwa kila pumzi anayopumua, mtawa anadumu katika Jina la Mungu.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
kaho naanak jis pooraa bhaag.
Nanak Say, one who has perfect destiny,
Nanak asema, mtu ambaye ana hatima kamili,
ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੪॥੪੯॥੧੧੮॥
naam sang taa kaa man laag. ||4||49||118||
only his mind is attuned to God’s Name.
akili yake pekee imemakinikia Jina la Mungu.

ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sant parsaad har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa.
Since the time I have meditated on God’s Name, by the Grace of the Guru,
Tangu wakati huo nimetafakari kwa Jina la Mungu, kwa Neema ya Guru,
ਤਬ ਤੇ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
tab tay Dhaavat man tariptaa-i-aa. ||1||
my wandering mind has been satisfied.
Akili yangu inayozurura imeridhishwa.
ਸੁਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
sukh bisraam paa-i-aa gun gaa-ay.
Singing His praises, I have realized God, the provider of bliss.
Kwa kuimba sifa zake, nimemgundua Mungu, mpaji wa raha tele.
ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਤੀ ਬਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saram miti-aa mayree hatee balaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My troubles have ended, and the demon has been destroyed. My toil for worldly wealth has ceased, as if by remembering God, the demon of worldly desires in me has been slain.
Shida zangu zimeisha, na pepo ameangamizwa. Harakati yangu ya utajiri wa kidunia umekwisha, kana kwamba kwa kumkumbuka Mungu, pepo wa hamu za kidunia ndani mwangu ameangamizwa.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥
charan kamal araaDh bhagvantaa.
By reflecting on the immaculate divine words,
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu maneno safi takatifu,
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
har simran tay mitee mayree chintaa. ||2||
and by meditating on God’s Name all my worries have come to an end.
Na kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu wasiwasi yangu yote imetamatika.
ਸਭ ਤਜਿ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਏਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਇਓ ॥
sabh taj anaath ayk saran aa-i-o.
When forsaking all other supports, I have come to the sanctuary of God, like an orphan,
Wakati kwa kuacha tegemezo yote nyingine, nimekuja katika pahala patakatifu pa Mungu, kama yatima.
ਊਚ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ਤਬ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਾਇਓ ॥੩॥
ooch asthaan tab sehjay paa-i-o. ||3||
since then, intuitively, I have obtained the supreme status of bliss.
Tangu wakati huo, nimepata hadhi kuu ya raha tele.
ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਨਸਿਆ ॥
dookh darad bharam bha-o nasi-aa.
All my sorrows, pains, doubts and fears has fled away,
Huzuni, maumivu, shaka na woga wangu wote umeondoka.
ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਬਸਿਆ ॥੪॥੫੦॥੧੧੯॥
karanhaar naanak man basi-aa. ||4||50||119||
O nanak, The Creator has come to dwell in my mind.
Ee Nanak, Muumba amekuja kuishi akilini mwangu.

ਕਰ ਕਰਿ ਟਹਲ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਉ ॥
kar kar tahal rasnaa gun gaava-o.
With my hands I serve His creation; with my tongue I sing His Glorious Praises,
Kwa mikono yangu natumikia uumbaji wake; kwa ulimi wangu naimba Sifa zake Tukufu.
