ਜੇ ਸਉ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵਣ ਖਾਣੁ ॥
jay sa-o var-hi-aa jeevan khaan.
If one were to live and eat for hundreds of years,
Iwapo mtu angekuwa aishi na kula kwa mamia ya miaka,
ਖਸਮ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
khasam pachhaanai so din parvaan. ||2||
that day alone would be auspicious, when one realizes God. ||2||
siku hiyo pekee ingekuwa yenye mafanikio, wakati mtu anamgundua Mungu.
ਦਰਸਨਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦਇਆ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
darsan daykhi-ai da-i-aa na ho-ay.
Even when people see a person in difficulty, no compassion is generated in their heart.
Hata wakati watu wanaona mtu katika dhiki, hakuna ukarimu unatokea moyoni mwao.
ਲਏ ਦਿਤੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
la-ay ditay vin rahai na ko-ay.
Without give and take nobody does anything for another.
Bila nipe nikupe hakuna mtu anatendea mwengine chochote.
ਰਾਜਾ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਹਥਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
raajaa ni-aa-o karay hath ho-ay.
Even the king or a judge administers justice only when he is bribed.
Hata mfalme ay hakimu anatoa haki wakati tu ambapo anapewa hongo.
ਕਹੈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
kahai khudaa-ay na maanai ko-ay. ||3||
No one is moved only in the Name of God. ||3|
Hakuna mtu anashawishiwa tu katika Jina la Mungu.
ਮਾਣਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
maanas moorat naanak naam.
Nanak says they are human beings in form and name only.
Nanak anasema kwamba wao ni binadamu katika muundo na jina pekee.
ਕਰਣੀ ਕੁਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ॥
karnee kutaa dar furmaan.
In conduct, a human being is like that dog who for the sake of food keeps sitting at the doorstep of his master obeying his command.
Kwa vitendo, binadamu ni kama mbwa ambaye kwa ajili ya chakula anaendelea kuketi mlangoni mwa bwana wake akitii amri yake.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਮਿਹਮਾਨੁ ॥
gur parsaad jaanai mihmaan.
By the Guru’s Grace, if one sees himself as a guest in this world and does not get entangled in Maya,
Kwa Neema ya Guru, iwapo mtu ajione kuwa mgeni duniani humu na asijinase katika Maya,
ਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੪॥
taa kichh dargeh paavai maan. ||4||4||
then he gains some honor in God’s court. ||4||4||
basi anapata kiwango fulani cha heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

jaytaa sabad surat Dhun taytee jaytaa roop kaa-i-aa tayree.
O’ God, whatever speech and hearing we have is because of Your power; and whatever expanse of the world we see is like Your body.
Ee Mungu, kutamka na kusikia kwokwote ambako tunako ni kwa sababu ya nguvu yako; na upanuzi wowote wa dunia tunaoona ni kama mwili wako.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਸਨਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹਉ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
tooN aapay rasnaa aapay basnaa avar na doojaa kaha-o maa-ee. ||1||
You Yourself are enjoying eveything while pervading the creatures; O’ my mother, I cannot say that there is anyother entity equal to God. ||1||
Wewe Mwenyewe unafurahia kila kitu wakati unaenea viumbe; Ee mama yangu, siwezi kusema kwamba kuna mungu mwengine aliye sawa na Mungu.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ॥
saahib mayraa ayko hai.
God alone is my Master-God,
Mungu pekee ndiye Bwana-Mungu,
ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayko hai bhaa-ee ayko hai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ brothers, He is the one and only Master-God of all. ||1||Pause||
Ee ndugu, Yeye ndiye Bwana-Mungu mmoja na wa pekee wa wote. ||1||Sitisha||
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਆਪੇ ਲੇਵੈ ਦੇਇ ॥
aapay maaray aapay chhodai aapay layvai day-ay.
God Himself destroys and He Himself emancipates; He Himself takes away the life breaths and He Himself gives these back.
Mungu Mwenyewe anaangamiza na Yeye Mwenyewe anakomboa; Yeye Mwenyewe anachukua pumzi za uhai na Yeye Mwenyewe anazitoa hizo.
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
aapay vaykhai aapay vigsai aapay nadar karay-i. ||2||
He Himself cherishes and rejoices His creation; He Himself bestows His glance of grace upon all. ||2||
Yeye Mwenyewe anathamini na kufurahia uumbaji wake; Yeye Mwenyewe anatawaza mtazamo wake wa neema kwa wote.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥
jo kichh karnaa so kar rahi-aa avar na karnaa jaa-ee.
Whatever He is to do, that is what He is doing; no one else can do anything.
Chochote ambacho anastahili kufanya, hicho ndicho kile ambacho anafanya; hakuna mwengine anayeweza kufanya chochote.
ਜੈਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਤੈਸੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
jaisaa vartai taiso kahee-ai sabh tayree vadi-aa-ee. ||3||
God is described as He projects Himself; O’ God, this is all Your Glory. ||3||
Mungu anaelezwa vile ambavyo anajiwasilisha; Ee Mungu, wote huu ni Utukufu wako.
ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਤਵਾਲਾ ਪੀਵਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
kal kalvaalee maa-i-aa mad meethaa man matvaalaa peevat rahai.
The present time called KalYug is like the barmaid who has the sweet wine of Maya and the intoxicated mind continues drinking it.
Wakati uliopo unaoitwa Kalyug ni kama kijakazi wa baa ambaye ana divai tamu ya Maya na akili ambayo imelevya inaendelea kuikunywa.
ਆਪੇ ਰੂਪ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤੀਂ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਏਵ ਕਹੈ ॥੪॥੫॥
aapay roop karay baho bhaaNteeN naanak bapurhaa ayv kahai. ||4||5||
Nanak says in humility that God Himself is adopting many different forms in the worldly play.||4||5||
Nanak anasema kwa unyenyekevu kwamba Mungu Mwenyewe anachukua miundo mingi tofauti katika mchezo wa kidunia.

vaajaa mat pakhaavaj bhaa-o.
Make your awakened intellect your musical instrumentand love for God your tambourine;
Fanya uwekevu wako ulioamka uwe ala yako ya muziki na upendo kwa Mungu uwe tari lako;
ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥
ho-ay anand sadaa man chaa-o.
then there would always be bliss and pleasure in your mind.
Kisha daima kutakuwa na raha tele na furaha akilini mwako.
ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਏਹੋ ਤਪ ਤਾਉ ॥
ayhaa bhagat ayho tap taa-o.
This is the devotional worship and this is the practice of penance.
Hii ndiyo ibada ya ujitoaji na hii ndiyo kufanya toba.
ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੧॥
it rang naachahu rakh rakh paa-o. ||1||
Move your feet and dance imbued with this kind of love.||1||
Sogeza miguu yako na ucheze kwa kujawa na upendo kama huu.
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥
pooray taal jaanai saalaah.
Know that the praise of God is the perfect beat;
Jua kwamba sifa ya Mungu ndiyo mpigo kamili;
ਹੋਰੁ ਨਚਣਾ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hor nacthehnaa khusee-aa man maah. ||1|| rahaa-o.
other kind of dances produce only sensual pleasure in the mind. ||1||Pause||
aina nyingine ya michezo inazalisha raha ya kihisia pekee akilini. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵਜਹਿ ਦੁਇ ਤਾਲ ॥
sat santokh vajeh du-ay taal.
Let truth and contentment be your pair of cymbals.
Hebu ukweli na kutoshelezwa kuwe matoazi yako.
ਪੈਰੀ ਵਾਜਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥
pairee vaajaa sadaa nihaal.
Let the ankle bells be the everlasting delight.
Hebu kengele za kisigino ziwe furaha yako inayodumu milele.
ਰਾਗੁ ਨਾਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
raag naad nahee doojaa bhaa-o.
Only love of God and none else should be the perpetual song.
Ni upendo wa Mungu pekee na hakuna hakuna nyingine inafaa kuwa wimbo usio na mwisho.
ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੨॥

Move your feet and dance imbued with this kind of love for God.||1||
Songeza miguu yako na ucheze kwa kujawa na aina hii ya upendo wa Mungu.
ਭਉ ਫੇਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
bha-o fayree hovai man cheet.
Let the revered fear of God within your heart and mind be your spinning dance,
Acha hofu kwa heshima ya Mungu ndani mwa moyo na akili yako iwe mchezo wako wa kuzunguka.
ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਨੀਤਾ ਨੀਤਿ ॥
bahdi-aa uth-di-aa neetaa neet.
and always keep this in your mind in every situation.
Na daima uweke hii akilini mwako katika kila hali.
ਲੇਟਣਿ ਲੇਟਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਆਹੁ ॥
laytan layt jaanai tan su-aahu.
To roll around in the dust is to know that the body is only ashes.
Kubiringika mchangani ni kujua kwamba mwili ni majivu tu.
ਇਤੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਾਚਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਰਖਿ ਪਾਉ ॥੩॥

Move your feet and dance imbued with this kind of love for God.||3||
Songeza miguu yako na ucheze kwa kujawa na aina hii ya upendo kwa Mungu.
ਸਿਖ ਸਭਾ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਕਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
sikh sabhaa deekhi-aa kaa bhaa-o.
Imbue yourself with the love of the Guru’s teachings in the holy congregation.
Jijaze na upendo wa mafundisho ya Guru katika ushirika mtakatifu.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਣਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
gurmukh sun-naa saachaa naa-o.
Follow the Guru’s teachings and listen to the praises of God.
Fuata mafundisho ya Guru na usikilize sifa za Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਰਾ ਵੇਰ ॥
naanak aakhan vayraa vayr.
O’ Nanak, meditate on God’s Name, over and over again.
Ee Nanak, tafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, tena na tena.

pa-un upaa-ay Dharee sabh Dhartee jal agnee kaa banDh kee-aa.
Having created the air, God supported the entire earth and bound water and fire together into a system.
Akiwa amekwishaumba hewa, Mungu alitoa tegemezo kwa dunia nzima na akafunga maji na moto pamoja katika mfumo mmoja.
ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਦਹਸਿਰਿ ਮੂੰਡੁ ਕਟਾਇਆ ਰਾਵਣੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੧॥
anDhulai dehsir moond kataa-i-aa raavan maar ki-aa vadaa bha-i-aa. ||1||
Blinded by theego, Ravana had his head cut off; O’ God, You did not become great just by killing Ravana. ||1||
Akipofushwa na ubinafsi wake, Ravana alifanya kichwa chake kikatwe; Ee Mungu, Wewe hukuwa mkuu kwa kuua Ravana pekee.
ਕਿਆ ਉਪਮਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਖੀ ਜਾਇ ॥
ki-aa upmaa tayree aakhee jaa-ay.
O’ God, Your glory cannot be described.
Ee Mungu, utukufu wako hauwezi hata kuelezwa.
ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬੇ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tooN sarbay poor rahi-aa liv laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You are totally pervading everywhere; you love and cherish all ||1||Pause||
Wewe unaenea kote kikamilifu; unapenda na kuthamini wote. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹਥਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਕਾਲੀ ਨਥਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥
jee-a upaa-ay jugat hath keenee kaalee nath ki-aa vadaa bha-i-aa.
O’ God, it is You who created all the beings and You control their destiny; You did not become great just by controlling a cobra.
Ee Mungu, ni Wewe uliyeumba viumbe vyote na Wewe unadhibiti hatima yao; Wewe hukuwa mkuu kwa kudhibiti fira pekee.
ਕਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜੋਰੂ ਕਉਣ ਕਹੀਐ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨॥
kis tooN purakh joroo ka-un kahee-ai sarab nirantar rav rahi-aa. ||2||
Whose Husband are You? Who is Your wife? You are subtly diffused and pervading in all. ||2||
Wewe ni mume wa nani? Nani ni mke wako? Unapenyeza kwa utaratibu na kuenea katika vyote.
ਨਾਲਿ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਵਰਦਾਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
naal kutamb saath vardaataa barahmaa bhaalan sarisat ga-i-aa.
It is said that god Brahma, the bestower of blessings, entered the stem of the lotus with his companion to find the extent of the universe.
Inasemekana kwamba mungu Brahma, mtawaza wa baraka, aliingia kwenye shina la yungiyungi pamoja na mwendani wake ili kupata kadiri ya ulimwengu.
ਆਗੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕੰਸੁ ਛੇਦਿ ਕਿਆ ਵਡਾ ਭਇਆ ॥੩॥
aagai ant na paa-i-o taa kaa kans chhayd ki-aa vadaa bha-i-aa. ||3||
Brahma remained wandering in the stem of the lotus and he could not find the limits of the universe; O’God, You did not become great by killing Kansa? ||3||
Brahma alibaki akizurura katika shina la yungiyungi na hakuweza kupata vikomo vya ulimwengu; Ee Mungu, Wewe hukuwa mkuu kwa kuua Kansa?
ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੇ ਖੀਰੁ ਮਥਿਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਭਖਲਾਏ ਜਿ ਅਸੀ ਕੀਆ ॥
ratan upaa-ay Dharay kheer mathi-aa hor bhakhlaa-ay je asee kee-aa.
The jewels were brought forth by churning khir, the ocean of milk, by angels and demons; but they began arguing to claim the credit for the treasure.
Vito vilitengenezwa kwa kusukasuka khir, bahari ya maziwa, na malaika na mapepo; lakini walianza kubishana kudai sifa za hazina hiyo.
ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਛਪੈ ਕਿਉ ਛਪਿਆ ਏਕੀ ਏਕੀ ਵੰਡਿ ਦੀਆ ॥੪॥੭॥
kahai naanak chhapai ki-o chhapi-aa aykee aykee vand dee-aa. ||4||7||
Nanak says, though God is hidden in His creation but He can’t remain hidden;disguised as Mohini, He distributed their share of jewels one by one. ||4||7||
Nanak anasema, ilahali Mungu amefichwa katika uumbaji wake lakini Yeye hawezi kubaki amefichwa; akigeuza kuonekana kama Mohini, Yeye aligawa mgao wao wa vito moja baada ya nyingine.
