ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee karam kamaa-o.
By the Guru’s grace, may I perform such deeds by which I may attain Naam,
Kwa neema ya Guru, niweze kutenda vitendo kama hivyo ambavyo vinafanya niweze kupata Naam,

ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੫॥
naamay raataa har gun gaa-o. ||5||
and imbued with Naam, may I sing God’s praise. ||5||
na kwa kujawa na Naam, niweze kuimba sifa za Mungu.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
gur sayvaa tay aap pachhaataa.
One who has understood his inner self by following the Guru’s teachings,
Yule ambaye ameelewa nafsi yake ya ndani kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru,

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥
amrit naam vasi-aa sukh-daata.
has realized the peace giving ambrosial Naam in his heart.
Amegundua Naam yenye ambrosia inayotoa amani moyoni mwake.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੬॥
an-din banee naamay raataa. ||6||
By singing God’s praises he always remains imbued with the love of Naam. ||6|
Kwa kuimba sifa za Mungu daima anabaki amejawa na upendo wa Naam.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
mayraa parabh laa-ay taa ko laagai.
When my God blesses someone to Naam, only then is that person becomes imbued with Naam.
Wakati Mungu wangu anabariki mtu na Naam, wakati huo tu ndio mtu huyo anajawa na Naam.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਬਦੇ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
ha-umai maaray sabday jaagai.
and by eradicating ego through the Guru’s word, he remains alert to his ego.
Na kwa kutokomeza ubinafsi kupitia neno la Guru, anabaki ametahadhari kwa ubinafsi wake.

ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ॥੭॥
aithai othai sadaa sukh aagai. ||7||
Then he enjoys lasting peace both here and hereafter. ||7||
Kisha yeye anafurahia amani inayodumu humu na akhera.

ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
man chanchal biDh naahee jaanai.
The fickle mind does not know the way to eradicate his ego.
Akili geugeu haijui njia ya kutokomeza ubinafsi wake.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
manmukh mailaa sabad na pachhaanai.
A self conceited person’s mind always remains filthy from the dirt of vices; it does not understand and follow the Guru’s teachings.
Akili ya mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi inabaki chafu kutoka kwa uchafu wa maovu; haielewi na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੮॥
gurmukh nirmal naam vakhaanai. ||8||
A Guru’s follower always meditates on Naam and remains immaculate. ||8||
Mfuasi wa Guru daima anatafakari kuhusu Naam na anabaki safi.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਗੈ ਕਰੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
har jee-o aagai karee ardaas.
I pray to the reverend God,
Ninaomba kwa Mungu anayestahili heshima,

ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
saaDhoo jan sangat ho-ay nivaas.
that I may always dwell in the congregation of saintly persons,
kwamba niweze kuishi daima katika ushirika wa watu watakatifu,

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੯॥
kilvikh dukh kaatay har naam pargaas. ||9||
and God’s Name may become manifest in my heart, which may eradicate my sins and sufferings. ||9||
na Jina la Mungu liweze kudhihirika moyoni mwangu, ambalo linaweza kutokomeza dhambi zangu na mateso yangu.

ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ ਪਰਾਤਾ ॥
kar beechaar aachaar paraataa.
One who deliberates on the Guru’s word understands the value of good conduct,
Mtu anayejadili kuhusu neno la Guru anaelewa thamana ya tabia nzuri,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
satgur bachnee ayko jaataa.
and by following the true Guru’s word realizes God,
na kwa kufuata neno la Guru wa kweli anamgundua Mungu,

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੧੦॥੭॥
naanak raam naam man raataa. ||10||7||
O’ Nanak, his mind is imbued with God’s Name. ||10||7||
Ee Nanak, akili yake ina Jina la Mungu.

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ॥
man maigal saakat dayvaanaa.
The mind of the faithless cynic is like a crazy elephant.
Akili ya mbeuzi asiye na imani ni kama tembo mwenye kichaa.

ਬਨ ਖੰਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹੈਰਾਨਾ ॥
ban khand maa-i-aa mohi hairaanaa.
Distracted by the love for Maya, it keeps wandering in the world like an untamed elephant wandering in the forest
Ikikengeushwa na upendo wa Maya, inaendelea kuzurura duniani kama tembo pori anayezurura nyikani

ਇਤ ਉਤ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਾਲ ਕੇ ਚਾਪੇ ॥
it ut jaahi kaal kay chaapay.
Hounded by the fear of death, it wanders here and there.
Ikitishwa na hofu ya kifo, inazurura hapa na pale.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ਘਰੁ ਆਪੇ ॥੧॥
gurmukh khoj lahai ghar aapay. ||1||
But the Guru’s follower seeks and realizes God within his heart . ||1||
Lakini mfuasi wa Guru anatafuta na kumgundua Mungu moyoni mwake.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਠਉਰਾ ॥
bin gur sabdai man nahee tha-uraa.
The mind does not stop wandering without focusing on the Guru’s word.
Akili yake haiachi kuzurura bila kukaza fikira kwa neno la Guru.

ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਉਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simrahu raam naam at nirmal avar ti-aagahu ha-umai ka-uraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Therefore, meditate on the immaculate God’s Name and renounce all other bitter worldly relishes which enhance ego. ||1||Pause||
Hivyo basi, tafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu safi na ukane viburudisho vyote chungu cha kidunia vinavyozidisha ubinafsi. ||1||Sitisha||

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹਸੀ ॥
ih man mugaDh kahhu ki-o rahsee.
Tell me, how can this foolish mind remain stable?
Niambie, akili hii mpumbavu inawezaje kusalia thabiti?

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਮਝੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹਸੀ ॥
bin samjhay jam kaa dukh sahsee.
Without understanding its true nature, it would suffer the pain of death.
Bila kuelewa hali yake halisi, itateseka uchungu wa kifo.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ ॥
aapay bakhsay satgur maylai.
One on whom God showers His grace, He unites that one with the true Guru.
Yule ambaye Mungu ananyunyuzia neema yake, Yeye anaunganisha huyo na Guru wa kweli.

ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਪੇਲੈ ॥੨॥
kaal kantak maaray sach paylai. ||2||
The Guru eradicates his painful fear of death by coaxing him towards God. ||2||
Guru anatokomeza uoga wake wa kifo wenye uchungu kwa kumshawishi kwa Mungu.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥
ih man karmaa ih man Dharmaa.
This mind engages in faith rituals and religious deeds.
Akili hii inajihusisha katika mila za imani na vitendo vya kidini.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਤੇ ਜਨਮਾ ॥
ih man panch tat tay janmaa.
This mind is born of the five elements (earth, ether, air, fire, and water).
Akili hii inazaliwa kwa elementi tano (ardhi, etha, hewa, moto, na maji).

ਸਾਕਤੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੂੜਾ ॥
saakat lobhee ih man moorhaa.
This foolish mind becomes greedy and worshipper of Maya.
Akili hii pumbavu inakuwa yenye tamaa na mwabudu wa Maya.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਮਨੁ ਰੂੜਾ ॥੩॥
gurmukh naam japai man roorhaa. ||3||
But, the mind of a person becomes spiritually elevated who follows the Guru’s teachings and meditates on Naam. ||3||
Lakini, akili ya mtu inakuwa ambayo imetukuka kiroho anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਅਸਥਾਨੇ ਸੋਈ ॥
gurmukh man asthaanay so-ee.
A true follower of the Guru’s teachingskeeps his mind focused on God.
Mfuasi wa kweli wa mafundisho ya Guru anamakinisha akili yake kwa Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
gurmukh taribhavan sojhee ho-ee.
The Guru’s follower gains the knowledge about all three worlds.
Mfuasi wa Guru anapata maarifa kuhusu dunia zote tatu.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਭੋਗੀ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪੈ ॥
ih man jogee bhogee tap taapai.
Sometimes this mind becomes a yogi; sometimes an enjoyer of worldly comforts and at other times it suffers the pains of penance.
Wakati mwingine akili hii inakuwa yogi; wakati mwingine mfurahia wa starehe za kidunia na wakati mwingine inateseka maumivu ya toba.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚੀਨੈ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੈ ॥੪॥
gurmukh cheenHai har parabh aapai. ||4||
But the Guru’s follower realizes God within himself. ||4||
Lakini mfuasi wa Guru anagundua Mungu ndani mwake.

ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
man bairaagee ha-umai ti-aagee. ghat ghat mansaa dubiDhaa laagee.
Each and every heart is afflicted with duality and worldly desires, but at times it renounces ego and becomes detached from the world.
Kila moyo unaathiriwa na uwili na hamu za kidunia, lakini wakati mwingine inakana ubinafsi na kujitenga kutoka dunia.

ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
raam rasaa-in gurmukh chaakhai.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and tastes the divine elixir,
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kuonja dawa takatifu,

ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ॥੫॥
dar ghar mahlee har pat raakhai. ||5||
the Master-God preserves his honor everywhere. ||5||
bwana-Mungu anahifadhi staha yake kila mahali.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਾਮਿ ॥
ih man raajaa soor sangraam.
This mind becomes a brave king in the battle against its evil passions (lust, anger greed, worldly attachments and ego).
Akili hii inakuwa mfalme jasiri katika vita dhidi ya shauku zake mbaya (ukware, hasira, tamaa, viambatisho vya kidunia na ubinafsi).

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ॥
ih man nirbha-o gurmukh naam.
when it becomes fearless by meditating on Naam through the Guru’s teachings.
Wakati inakuwa bila hofu kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਮਾਰੇ ਪੰਚ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਏ ॥
maaray panch apunai vas kee-ay.
The mind subdues the five evil passions and brings them under control,
Akili inashinda shauku hizo tano na kuzidhibiti,

ਹਉਮੈ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਿ ਇਕਤੁ ਥਾਇ ਕੀਏ ॥੬॥
ha-umai garaas ikat thaa-ay kee-ay. ||6||
After eradicating ego, it controls the vices. ||6||
Baada ya kutokomeza ubinafsi, inadhibiti maovu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਆਦ ਅਨ ਤਿਆਗੇ ॥
gurmukh raag su-aad an ti-aagay.
The follower of the Guru‘s teachings renounces all worldly pleasures which take him away from God.
Mfuasi wa mafundisho ya Guru anakana raha zote za kidunia zinazomwondoa kutoka kwa Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
gurmukh ih man bhagtee jaagay.
By engaging in devotional worship the mind of the Guru’s follower remains alert to the onslaught of Maya.
Kwa kujihusisha katika ibada ya ujitoaji akili ya mfuasi wa Guru inabaki imetahadhari dhidi ya shambulizi la Maya.

ਅਨਹਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
anhad sun maani-aa sabad veechaaree.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word and listening to the continuous divine melody, his mind gets satiated,
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru na kusikiliza melodia takatifu isiyo na mwisho akili yake inatoshelezwa,

ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
aatam cheeneh bha-ay nirankaaree. ||7||
and by reflecting on the inner self, he becomes the embodiment of the formless God. ||7||
na kwa kutafakari kuhusu nafsi ya ndani, anakuwa udhihirisho wa kimwili wa Mungu asiye na muundo wowote.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
ih man nirmal dar ghar so-ee.
When the mind becomes pure, it sees the same God both within himself and in the universe.
Wakati akili inakuwa safi, inaona Mungu huyo huyo ndani mwake na katika ulimwengu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ਧੁਨਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
gurmukh bhagat bhaa-o Dhun ho-ee.
Then loving adoration of God wells up in this Guru’s follower.
Kisha ibada ya upendo ya Mungu inatokea ndani mwa mfuasi huyu wa Guru.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ahinis har jas gur parsaad.
By the Guru’s grace he always keeps singing God’s praises.
Kwa neema ya Guru anaendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu daima.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ॥੮॥
ghat ghat so parabh aad jugaad. ||8||
A Guru’s follower sees that God in all hearts, who has been pervading even before all ages and will remain there after the end of all ages. ||8||
Mfuasi wa Guru anaona Mungu huyo katika mioyo yote, ambaye amekuwa akienea hata kabla ya enzi zote na atakuwepo baada ya tamati ya enzi zote.

ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
raam rasaa-in ih man maataa.
The mind becomes engrossed with the sublime elixir of God’s Name,
Akili inavama katika dawa tukufu ya Jina la Mungu,

ਸਰਬ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
sarab rasaa-in gurmukh jaataa.
By following the Guru’s teachings, when one comes to realize God-the source sublime elixir.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, wakati mtu anakuja kugundua Mungu-chanzo cha dawa tukufu.

ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥
bhagat hayt gur charan nivaasaa.
Love for devotional worship wells up in the mind when it so obediently follows the Guru’s teachings, as if it is residing at the Guru’s feet.
Upendo wa ibada ya ujitoaji unajaa akilini wakati kwa utiifu unafuata mafundisho ya Guru, kana kwamba unaishi miguuni pa Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੯॥੮॥
naanak har jan kay daasan daasaa. ||9||8||
O’ Nanak, then it becomes the humble servant of God’s devotees. ||9||8||
Ee Nanak, kisha unakuwa mtumishi mnyenyekevu wa watawa wa Mungu.
