ਬਿਆਪਤ ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
bi-aapat harakh sog bisthaar.
Maya afflicts some through pain and others through the display of pleasure.
Maya inaathiri wengine kupitia uchungu na wengine kupitia maonyesho ya raha.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥
bi-aapat surag narak avtaar.
It torments people through living in the conditions of heaven and hell.
Inatesa watu kupitia kuishi katika hali ya mbinguni na jehanamu.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਧਨ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਪੇਖਿ ਸੋਭਾ ॥
bi-aapat Dhan nirDhan paykh sobhaa.
It afflicts the rich, the poor and those who see themselves being honored.
Inaathiri matajiri, maskini na wale wanaojiona kuwa wanaheshimika.
ਮੂਲੁ ਬਿਆਧੀ ਬਿਆਪਸਿ ਲੋਭਾ ॥੧॥
mool bi-aaDhee bi-aapas lobhaa. ||1||
The root cause of this affliction is greed in one form or another. ||1||
Msingi wa kuathiri huku ni tamaa kwa mbinu moja au nyingine.
ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰੀ ॥
maa-i-aa bi-aapat baho parkaaree.
Maya torments people in so many ways.
Maya inatesa watu kwa njia nyingi mno.
ਸੰਤ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਓਟ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant jeeveh parabh ot tumaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, saints enjoy bliss under Your protection. ||1||Pause||
Ee Mungu, watakatifu wanafurahia raha tele chini ya ulinzi wako. ||1||Sitisha||
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
bi-aapat ahaN-buDh kaa maataa.
Maya torments the one who is intoxicated with self-conceit.
Maya inatesa yule ambaye amevama katika majivuno binafsi.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
bi-aapat putar kaltar sang raataa.
It afflicts the one who is imbued with the love for children and spouse.
Inaathiri yule ambaye amejawa na upendo wa watoto na mwenzie wa ndoa.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਹਸਤਿ ਘੋੜੇ ਅਰੁ ਬਸਤਾ ॥
bi-aapat hasat ghorhay ar bastaa.
Maya torments some through the possessions such as elephants, horses and beautiful clothes.
Maya inatesa wengine kupitia mali kama tembo, farasi na mavazi mazuri.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਰੂਪ ਜੋਬਨ ਮਦ ਮਸਤਾ ॥੨॥
bi-aapat roop joban mad mastaa. ||2||
It torments the one intoxicated with beauty and youth. ||2||
Inatesa yule aliyelewa kwa uzuri na ujana.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਰੰਕ ਅਰੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥
bi-aapat bhoom rank ar rangaa.
It torments landlords, paupers and rich revelers.
Inatesa wenye nyumba, maskini na wapenda anasa wakwasi.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
bi-aapat geet naad sun sangaa.
It is afflicts those who are listening to songs and music in parties.
Inaathiri wale wanaosikiza nyimbo na muziki katikasherehe.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਸੇਜ ਮਹਲ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥
bi-aapat sayj mahal seegaar.
It torments people through beautiful beds, palaces and decorations.
Inatesa watu kupitia vitanda vizuri, majumba na mapambo.
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਅੰਧਿਆਰ ॥੩॥
panch doot bi-aapat anDhi-aar. ||3|| affected
Sometimes it effects them through the darkness of the five evil passions. ||3||
Wakati mwingine inawaathiri kupitia giza ya hamu tano mbaya.
ਬਿਆਪਤ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਹਉ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
bi-aapat karam karai ha-o faasaa.
It torments even the one who acts righteously but is entangled in ego.
Inatesa hata yule anayetenda kiadilifu lakini amenaswa katika ubinafsi.
ਬਿਆਪਤਿ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
bi-aapat girsat bi-aapat udaasaa.
Maya torments the householder as well as the recluse.
Maya inatesa wenye nyumba na pia waliojitenga kutoka wengine.
ਆਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਇਹ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
aachaar bi-uhaar bi-aapat ih jaat.
It torments people through pride in character, lifestyle and social status.
Inatesa watu kupitia fahari ya silika, mtindo wa maisha na hadhi ya kijamii.
ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਤ ॥੪॥
sabh kichh bi-aapat bin har rang raat. ||4||
Maya afflicts when there is lack of love for God ||4||
Maya inaathiri wakati hakuna upendo kwa Mungu
ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
santan kay banDhan kaatay har raa-ay.
The sovereign God cuts away the bonds of Maya for the saints.
Mungu mwenyezi anakata vifungo vya Maya kwa watakatifu.
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਮਾਇ ॥
taa ka-o kahaa bi-aapai maa-ay.
So, Maya cannot torment them at all.
Hivyo, Maya haiwezi kuwatesa hata kidogo.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਧੂਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਪਾਈ ॥
kaho naanak jin Dhoor sant paa-ee.
Nanak says, One who has humbly followed the teachings of the Guru,
Nanak asema, yule ambaye amefuata mafundisho ya Guru kwa unyenyekevu,
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਾਈ ॥੫॥੧੯॥੮੮॥
taa kai nikat na aavai maa-ee. ||5||19||88||
Maya cannot draw near that person ||5||19||88||
Maya haiwezi kukaribia mtu huyo

nainhu need par darisat vikaar.
The eyes are unconscious in casting their evil glance on others.
Macho hayana fahamu katika kutupa mtazamo wake muovu kwa wengine.
ਸ੍ਰਵਣ ਸੋਏ ਸੁਣਿ ਨਿੰਦ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
sarvan so-ay sun nind veechaar.
The ears are unconscious in listening to slanderous stories.
Masikio hayana fahamu katika kusikiza hadithi zenye kashfa.
ਰਸਨਾ ਸੋਈ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ॥
rasnaa so-ee lobh meethai saad.
The tongue is unconscious in the desires for sweet flavors.
Ulimi hauna fahamu katika hamu ya ladha tamu.
ਮਨੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਿ ॥੧॥
man so-i-aa maa-i-aa bismaad. ||1||
The mind is asleep fascinated by Maya (worldly wealth). ||1||
Akili ipo katika usingizi ikivutiwa na Maya (utajiri wa kidunia)
ਇਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ॥
is garih meh ko-ee jaagat rahai.
Only a rare one is aware of the onslaughts of Maya (worldly attractions).
Ni mtu nadra sana anajua kuhusu mashambulizi ya Maya (vivutio vya kidunia).
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਵਸਤੁ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਲਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saabat vasat oh apnee lahai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and keeps his wealth of life intact.||1||Pause||
na anaweka utajiri wake wa maisha shwari. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਗਲ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਅਪਨੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੀ ॥
sagal sahaylee apnai ras maatee.
All the sensory organs of the body are busy in enjoying their own pleasures.
Viungo vyote vya hisi vya mwili vinajishughulisha katika kufurahia raha zao wenyewe.
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਤੀ ॥
garih apunay kee khabar na jaatee.
They do not care to guard their own body against vices.
Havijali kulinda mwili wao wenyewe dhidi ya maovu.
ਮੁਸਨਹਾਰ ਪੰਚ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ॥
musanhaar panch batvaaray.
The five plunderers and robbers (lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego),
Waporaji na wezi watano (ukware. Hasira, tamaa, kiambatisho na ubinafsi),
ਸੂਨੇ ਨਗਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਠਗਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
soonay nagar paray thag-haaray. ||2||
descend upon the unguarded house (body). ||2||
wanashambulia nyumba isiyo na ulinzi (mwili).
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥
un tay raakhai baap na maa-ee.
Neither our father nor our mother can save us from these robbers.
Sio baba wala mama yetu ambaye anaweza kutuokoa kutoka wezi hao.
ਉਨ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
un tay raakhai meet na bhaa-ee.
No one can save us from them.
Hakuna anayeweza kutuokoa kutoka kwao.
ਦਰਬਿ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਰਹਤੇ ॥
darab si-aanap naa o-ay rahtay.
They cannot be restrained by wealth or cleverness.
Hawawezi kuzuiliwa kwa utajiri ama uwerevu.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਓਇ ਦੁਸਟ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਤੇ ॥੩॥
saaDhsang o-ay dusat vas hotay. ||3||
It is only through the Company of the holy that these villains can be controlled. ||3||
Ni kupitia tu Uandamano wa watakatifu ambapo wahalifu hao wanaweza kudhibitiwa.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣਿ ॥
kar kirpaa mohi saaringpaan.
O’ God, show mercy on me,
Ee Mungu, nionee huruma,
ਸੰਤਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
santan Dhoor sarab niDhaan.
and bless me with the the humble service of the saints which is a real treasure.
Na unibariki kwa huduma nyenyekevu ya watakatifu ambayo ni hazina halisi.
ਸਾਬਤੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
saabat poonjee satgur sang.
The true wealth of human life remains intact in the company of the true Guru.
Utajiri wa kweli wa maisha ya binadamu unabaki kamili katika uandamano wa Guru wa kweli.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੪॥
nanak jaagai paarbrahm kai rang.||4||
Being imbued with God’s love, Nanak remains aware of these vices. ||4||
Akiwa amejawa na upendo wa Mungu, Nanak anabaki anafahamu maovu haya.
ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ॥
so jaagai jis parabh kirpaal.
One to whom God shows His mercy, remains aware of these vices,
Kwa yule ambaye Mungu anaonyesha huruma yake, anabaki amefahamu maovu haya.
ਇਹ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨੦॥੮੯॥
ih poonjee saabat Dhan maal. ||1|| rahaa-o doojaa. ||20||89||
and keeps safe his wealth of spiritual life. ||1||Second Pause||20||89||

He who controls all the kings and chiefs;
Yeye anayedhibiti wafalme na chifu wote;
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨ ॥
jaa kai vas hai sagal jahaan.
He who commands the entire universe,
Yeye anayeamrisha ulimwengu mzima,
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaa kaa kee-aa sabh kichh ho-ay.
by whose doing everything happens,
ambaye kwa kufanya kwake kila kitu kinatendeka,
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
tis tay baahar naahee ko-ay. ||1||
nothing happens without His command. ||1||
hakuna kinachotendeka bila amri yake.
ਕਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
kaho baynantee apunay satgur paahi.
Offer your prayers to your True Guru.
Wasilisha maombi yako kwa Guru wa Kweli.
ਕਾਜ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਦੇਇ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kaaj tumaaray day-ay nibaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He will accomplish your tasks. ||1||Pause||
Yeye atafanikisha kazi zako. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
sabh tay ooch jaa kaa darbaar.
He whose court is most exalted,
Yeye ambaye mahakama yake imeinuliwa juu zaidi,
ਸਗਲ ਭਗਤ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
sagal bhagat jaa kaa naam aDhaar.
whose Name is the support of all devotees,
ambaye Jina lake ni nguzo ya watawa wote,
ਸਰਬ ਬਿਆਪਿਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ ॥
sarab bi-aapat pooran Dhanee.
that perfect Master is pervading everywhere.
Bwana huyo kamili anaenea kote.
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਨੀ ॥੨॥
jaa kee sobhaa ghat ghat banee. ||2||
whose glory is manifest in each and every heart, ||2||
ambaye utukufu wako unadhihirika katika kila moyo,
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹੈ ॥
jis simrat dukh dayraa dhahai.
by meditating on whom all the miseries are abolished;
ambaye kwa kutafakari kwake taabu zote zinaondolewa;
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥
jis simrat jam kichhoo na kahai.
by meditating on whom the fear of death doesn’t trouble the mind and
ambaye kwa kutafakari kwake uoga wa kifo haufadhaishi akili na
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹੋਤ ਸੂਕੇ ਹਰੇ ॥
jis simrat hot sookay haray.
by meditating on whom the mortals are spiritually rejuvenated.
Kwa kutafakari kwake binadamu wanasisimuliwa kiroho.
