ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਲਾਗੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
jis bhaytat laagai parabh rang. ||1||
upon meeting whom, one’s heart is imbued with God’s love. ||1||
ambaye baada ya kukutana naye, moyo wa mtu unajawa na upendo wa Mungu.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਓਇ ਆਨੰਦ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
gur parsaad o-ay aanand paavai.
By the Guru’s grace, one attains bliss.
Kwa neema ya Guru, mtu anapata raha tele.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jis simrat man ho-ay pargaasaa taa kee gat mit kahan na jaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The person, whose mind is illuminated by meditating on Naam, his supreme spiritual state cannot be described. ||1||Pause||
Mtu. Ambaye akili yake imeangazwa kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam, hali yake kuu ya kiroho haiwezi kuelezwa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮ ਮਜਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
varat naym majan tis poojaa.
The merits of all kinds of fasts, disciplines, ablutions, worships,
Sifa za aina zote za kufunga, nidhamu, udhu, ibada,
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਨੀਜਾ ॥
bayd puraan tin simrit suneejaa.
and merits of listening to all holy scriptures such as vedas, puranas, and simrities are attained by rememgering God.
Na sifa za kusikiliza maandishi takatifu kama vile vedas, puranas, na simritis zinapatwa kwa kumkumbuka Mungu.
ਮਹਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
mahaa puneet jaa kaa nirmal thaan.
Extremely immaculate becomes the heart of the person,
Moyo wa mtu huyo unakuwa saif kabisa,
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
saaDhsangat jaa kai har har naam. ||2||
who, in the holy congregation, has realized God dwelling in his heart. ||2||
ambaye, katika ushirika mtakatifu, amegundua Mungu akiishi moyoni mwake.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਓ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਗਲੇ ਭਵਨ ॥
pargati-o so jan saglay bhavan.
That humble being becomes renowned in all the worlds.
Kiumbe mnyenyekevu anakuwa maarufu katika dunia zote.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਰੇਨ ॥
patit puneet taa kee pag rayn.
Even sinners are purified, by the dust of his feet (his humble service).
Hata watenda dhambi wanatakaswa, kwa mchanga wa miguu yake (huduma nyenyekevu).
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
jaa ka-o bhayti-o har har raa-ay.
One who has realized the sovereign God,
Yule ambaye amegundua Mungu mwenyezi,
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
taa kee gat mit kathan na jaa-ay. ||3||
his supreme spiritual state cannot be described. ||3||
hali yake kuu ya kiroho haiwezi kuelezwa.
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ॥
aath pahar kar jorh Dhi-aava-o.
O’ God, with folded hands I wish to remember You all the time.
Ee Mungu, kwa mikono mikunjufu natamani kukumbuka Wewe wakati wote.
ਉਨ ਸਾਧਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥
un saaDhaa kaa darsan paava-o.
I yearn to obtain the blessed sight of those holy saints,
Nina hamu ya kupata mwono uliobarikiwa wa hao watakatifu,
ਮੋਹਿ ਗਰੀਬ ਕਉ ਲੇਹੁ ਰਲਾਇ ॥
mohi gareeb ka-o layho ralaa-ay.
please unite me, the helpless one, with the company of those saints,
tafadhali niunganishe, mimi myonge, na uandamano wa hao watakatifu,
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਇ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੪॥੩੮॥੮੯॥
naanak aa-ay pa-ay sarnaa-ay. ||4||38||89||
who have come to Your refuge, O’ Nanak. ||4||38||89||

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਉਦਕ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ॥
aath pahar udak isnaanee.
O’ Pundit, He (God) who bathes in water all the time.
Ee Mbukuzi, Yeye (Mungu) anayeoga kwa maji wakati wote.
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭੋਗੁ ਲਗਾਇ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
sad hee bhog lagaa-ay sugi-aanee.
He always keeps sanctifying and tasting all food and is extremely wise.
Daima anaendelea kujitakasa na kuonja chakula chote na ana hekima iliyokithiri.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਛੋਡੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
birthaa kaahoo chhodai naahee.
He never lets anyone suffer in any pain.
Kamwe haachi yeyote ateseke kwa uchungu.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਹ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
bahur bahur tis laagah paa-ee. ||1||
I always bow to Him with great love and respect. ||1||
Daima nasujudu kwake kwa upendo na heshima kuu.
ਸਾਲਗਿਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
saalgiraam hamaarai sayvaa.
Such is that Saligram (God) whom I adore andworship.
Ndivyo alivyo huyo Saligram (Mungu) ambaye natukuza na kuabudu.
ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਚਾ ਬੰਦਨ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
poojaa archaa bandan dayvaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
For me, meditation on God’s Name is the worship, flower-offerings and bowing before idols. ||1||Pause||
Kwangu, kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu ni ibada, matoleo ya maua na kuinama mbaele ya sanamu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਘੰਟਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ॥
ghantaa jaa kaa sunee-ai chahu kunt.
His bell (command) is heard in all the four directions of the world.
Kengele (amri) yake inasikika katika mielekeo minne ya dunia.
ਆਸਨੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ॥
aasan jaa kaa sadaa baikunth.
His seat is forever in the holy congregation which is like heaven.
Kiti chake milele kipo karika ushirika mtakatifu ambacho ni kama mbinguni.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਚਵਰੁ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਝੂਲੈ ॥
jaa kaa chavar sabh oopar jhoolai.
His majestic fan (chavar) waves over all (God is kind to all).
Kipepeo chake kikuu (chavar) kinapunga juu ya wote (Mungu ni mwema kwa wote).
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਧੂਪੁ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਫੁਲੈ ॥੨॥
taa kaa Dhoop sadaa parfulai. ||2||
The fragrance from the ever blooming flowers is like His incense. ||2||
Harufu nzuri kutoka kwa maua yanayonawiri milele ni kama ubani wake.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੰਪਟੁ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਜਾ ਕਾ ॥
ghat ghat sampat hai ray jaa kaa.
O’ Pundit, He resides in every heart; therefore, every heart is His mansion
Ee Mbukuzi, Yeye anaishi katika kila moyo; hivyo basi, kila moyo ni jumba lake
ਅਭਗ ਸਭਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਧਾ ॥
abhag sabhaa sang hai saaDhaa.
He is always there in the everlasting congregation of saints.
Yeye daima yupo katika ushirika wa watakatifu unaodumu milele.
ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
aartee keertan sadaa anand.
Singing of His Praises which brings lasting bliss is really His aartee (lamp-lit worship service).
Kuimba Sifa zake ambako kunaleta raha tele inayodumu kwa kweli ni aartee yake (ibada yenye taa kuwashwa).
ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥੩॥
mahimaa sundar sadaa bay-ant. ||3||
The infinite and beautiful God is always being glorified. ||3||
Mungu mzuri na asiye na mwisho daima anatukuzwa.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਲਹਨਾ ॥
jisahi paraapat tis hee lahnaa.
He alone realizes God, the Saligram, who is predestined.
Yeye pekee anamgundua Mungu, Saligram, ambaye ameagiziwa mapema.
ਸੰਤ ਚਰਨ ਓਹੁ ਆਇਓ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
sant charan oh aa-i-o sarnaa.
by seeking the refuge of the Guru and following his teachings.
Kwa kutafuta kimbilio cha Guru na kufuata mafundisho yake.
ਹਾਥਿ ਚੜਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਗਿਰਾਮੁ ॥
haath charhi-o har saalgiraam.
That person realizes God, the true Saligram,
Mtu huyo anamgundua Mungu, Saligram wa kweli,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੯੦॥
kaho naanak gur keeno daan. ||4||39||90||
whom the Guru has given the gift of Naam, says Nanak. ||4||39||90||
yule ambaye Guru anempa thawabu ya Naam, asema Nanak.

ਜਿਹ ਪੈਡੈ ਲੂਟੀ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
jih paidai lootee panihaaree.
The way of life in which a soul-bride carrying the load of sins is plundered of her spiritual wealth,
Mtindo wa maisha ambao roho-bi harusi akibeba mzigo wa dhambi anaporwa utajiri wake wa kiroho,
ਸੋ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਦੂਰਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
so maarag santan dooraaree. ||1||
that way of life remains far removed from the saints.||1||
mtindo huo wa maisha unabaki mbali sana na watakatifu.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
satgur poorai saach kahi-aa.
Whom the true Guru blessed with Naam,
Yule ambaye Guru wa kweli amebariki na Naam,
ਨਾਮ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਬੀਥੀ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam tayray kee muktay beethee jam kaa maarag door rahi-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, with this blessing of Naam, he finds the righteous way in life and stays far away from the path which leads to spiritual death. ||1||Pause||
Ee Mungu, kwa baraka hii ya Naam, anapata njia adilifu maishani na anakaa mbali na njia inayoongoza kwa kifo cha kiroho. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਹ ਲਾਲਚ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਘਾਟ ॥
jah laalach jaagaatee ghaat.
The place where the soul is warned by demons of death,
Mahali ambapo roho anaonywa na mapepo wa kifo,
ਦੂਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਉਹ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਬਾਟ ॥੨॥
door rahee uh jan tay baat. ||2||
that place remains far removed from the path followed by the saints. ||2||
mahali hapo panabaki mbali sana kutoka kwa njia inayofuatwa na watakatifu.
ਜਹ ਆਵਟੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਘਨ ਸਾਥ ॥
jah aavtay bahut ghan saath.
That way of life in which many caravans of self-willed human beings are subjected to great pain and suffering,
mtindo huo wa maisha ambao ndani mwake misafara mingi ya binadamu wenye hiari binafsi wanatiishwa kwa uchungu na mateso makuu,
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਧ ॥੩॥
paarbarahm kay sangee saaDh. ||3||
while the saints lead a way of life full of bliss in theholy congregation. ||3||
wakati watakatifu wanaishi maisha yaliyojaa raha tele katika ushirika mtakatifu.
ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਸਭ ਲਿਖਤੇ ਲੇਖਾ ॥
chitra gupat sabh likh-tay laykhaa.
Chitar and Gupat, the mythical recording angels, write the record of the deeds of all humans beings,
Chitar na Gupat, malaika wa kunakili wa kihadithi, wanaandika rekodi ya vitendo vya binadamu wote,
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਪੇਖਾ ॥੪॥
bhagat janaa ka-o darisat na paykhaa. ||4||
but they cannot look towards the devotees with such intention. ||4||
Lakini hawawezi kutazama watawa kwa nia kama hiyo.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
kaho naanak jis satgur pooraa.
Nanak says, the person who meets and follow the teachings of the perfect Guru,
Nanak anasema, mtu anayekutana na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru kamili,
ਵਾਜੇ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰਾ ॥੫॥੪੦॥੯੧॥
vaajay taa kai anhad tooraa. ||5||40||91||
the trumpet of continuous melody of divine bliss keeps playing in his heart. ||5||40||91||
Tarumbeta ya melodia ya raha tele takatifu isiyo na mwisho inaendelea kucheza moyoni mwake.

saaDhoo sang sikhaa-i-o naam.
In the company of the saints, whom the Guru teaches to meditate on Naam,
Katika uandamano wa watakatifu, yule ambaye Guru anafunza kutafakari kuhusu Naam,
ਸਰਬ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥
sarab manorath pooran kaam.
all their desires are fulfilled and tasks are accomplished.
Hamu zao zote zinatimizwa na kazi zao kufanikishwa.
ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸਹਿ ਅਘਾਨੇ ॥
bujh ga-ee tarisnaa har jaseh aghaanay.
Their yearning for worldly things is quenched; being absorbed in singing God’s praises, they feel fully satiated.
Tamaa yao ya vitu vya kidunia inazimwa; wakivama katika kuimba sifa za Mungu, wanahisi wametoshelezwa kikamilifu.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਨੇ ॥੧॥
jap jap jeevaa saarigpaanay. ||1||
I too remain spiritually alive by meditating on God again and again. ||1||
Mimi pia nasalia hai kiroho kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu tena na tena.
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
karan karaavan saran pari-aa.
One who enters the refuge of the Creator, the Cause of all causes.
Yule anayeingia kimbilio cha Muumba, Msingi wa misingi yote.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਚੰਦੁ ਚੜਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaad sahj ghar paa-i-aa miti-aa anDhayraa chand charhi-aa. |1| rahaa-o.
By the Guru’s grace he attains poise in his heart; the darkness of spiritual ignorance goes away and he feels as if the moon of wisdom has risen. ||1||Pause||
Kwa neema ya Guru anapata utulivu moyoni mwake; giza ya ujinga wa kiroho inaondoka na anahisi kana kwamba mwezi wa hekima umetokea.
