ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
manmukh janam birthaa ga-i-aa ki-aa muhu daysee jaa-ay. ||3||
In this way, the life of these self-willed people is wasted. What face will they show when they go to God’s court? ||3||
Kwa njia hii, maisha ya watu wenye wasia ya kibinafsi yanaenda bure. Wataonyesha uso gani watakapoenda kwa mahakama ya Mungu?

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sabh kichh aapay aap hai ha-umai vich kahan na jaa-ay.
God Himself is all in all, but they being in ego cannot accept that.
Mungu mwenyewe ni yote ndani ya yote, lakini wao wakiwa katika ubinafsi hawawezi kukubali hayo.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
gur kai sabad pachhaanee-ai dukh ha-umai vichahu gavaa-ay.
However, through the blessing of Guru’s Word, they realize it (that God is all in all), and their pain of egoism is eradicated from within.
Hata hivyo, kupitia baraka ya neno la Guru, wanagundua hio (ya kwamba Mungu ni yote ndani ya yote), na uchungu wao wa ubinafsi unaangamizwa kutoka ndani.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
satgur sayvan aapnaa ha-o tin kai laaga-o paa-ay.
I humbly serve those who follows the Guru’s teachings.
Natumikia kwa unyenyekevu wale wanaofuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੫੪॥
naanak dar sachai sachiaar heh ha-o tin balihaarai jaa-o. ||4||21||54||
O’ Nanak, I am a sacrifice to them who are judged to be worthy of honor at God’s court.
Ee Nanak, mimi ni dhabihu kwao wanaohukumiwa kuwa wanastahili heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu,

ਜੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਤਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jay vaylaa vakhat veechaaree-ai taa kit vaylaa bhagat ho-ay.
If we ponder about the suitable time for worshipping God, we may find that there is no particular fixed time for God’s worship (Any moment is acceptable).
Tukiwaza kuhusu wakati mwafaka wa kuabudu Mungu, tunaweza kupata ya kwamba hakuna wakati haswa ya kuabudu Mungu (wakati wowote unakubalika).

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
an-din naamay rati-aa sachay sachee so-ay.
By being always imbued with God’s love, we become like the eternal God, and obtain eternal glory.
Kwa kuwa daima tumejawa na upendo wa Mungu, tunakuwa kama Mungu wa milele, na kupokea utukufu wa milele.

ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਿਨੇਹੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
ik til pi-aaraa visrai bhagat kinayhee ho-ay.
What sort of devotion is that if you forget the Beloved God, even for an instant?
Hio ni aina gani ya ibada iwapo unasahau Mungu mpendwa, hata kwa muda mfupi?

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਚ ਸਿਉ ਸਾਸੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
man tan seetal saach si-o saas na birthaa ko-ay. ||1||
When not even a single breath goes to waste (without remembering God). Then Being attuned to God, both mind and body become serene and calm.
Wakati hata pumzi kidogo haiendi bure (bila kumkumbuka Mungu), Basi kumakinikia Mungu, akili na mwili inakuwa tulivu na shwari.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
mayray man har kaa naam Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ my mind, meditate on God’s Name with love and devotion.
Ee akili yangu, tafakari kuhusu jina la Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea.

ਸਾਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saachee bhagat taa thee-ai jaa har vasai man aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
True worship is performed only when God comes to abide in the heart.
Ibada ya kweli inafanywa tu wakati Mungu anakuja kuishi moyoni.

ਸਹਜੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਰਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਜੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
sehjay khaytee raahee-ai sach naam beej paa-ay.
If in a state of intuitive poise we cultivate the farm (of our body) and sow the seed of Naam,
Iwapo katika hali ya utulivu angavu tunapanda shamba (ya mwili wetu) na kupanda mbegu ya Naam,

ਖੇਤੀ ਜੰਮੀ ਅਗਲੀ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਜਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
khaytee jammee aglee manoo-aa rajaa sahj subhaa-ay.
an abundant crop in terms of intuitive contentment of mind is achieved.
Mimea tele kwa kuzingatia kutoshelezwa kiangavu kwa akili kunatimizwa.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
gur kaa sabad amrit hai jit peetai tikh jaa-ay.
Guru’s Word is Ambrosial Nectar; relishing it, longing for Maya is quenched.
Neno la Guru ni nekta ya mabrosia; ukilifurahia, tamaa ya Maya inazimwa.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਸਚੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
ih man saachaa sach rataa sachay rahi-aa samaa-ay. ||2||
This purified mind attuned to God, remains permeated with Him.
Akili iliyotakaswa imemakinikia Mungu, inabki inapenyezwa naye.

ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
aakhan vaykhan bolnaa sabday rahi-aa samaa-ay.
Such people see, speak and utter everything according to the Divine Word.
Watu kama hao wanaona, kuongea na kutamka kila kitu kulingana na Neno takatifu.

ਬਾਣੀ ਵਜੀ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥
banee vajee chahu jugee sacho sach sunaa-ay.
Their utterance which is The Word of the Guru, becomes famous in all the four ages, and they preach nothing but the Truth.
Matamshi yao ambayo ni Neno la Guru, yanakuwa maarufu katika enzi zote nne, na hakuna wanachohubiri ila Ukweli.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਲਇਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
ha-umai mayraa reh ga-i-aa sachai la-i-aa milaa-ay.
Their egotism and possessiveness are eliminated, and the True One accepts them into Himself.
Ubinafsi na kumiliki kwao kunaangamizwa, na yule Mmoja wa Kweli anawakubali ndani mwake.

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
tin ka-o mahal hadoor hai jo sach rahay liv laa-ay. ||3||
Those who remain lovingly attuned to the True One, realize His Presence within.
Wale wanaobaki wamemakinika kwa upendo kwa yule Mmoja wa Kweli, wanagundua uwepo wake ndani mwao.

ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
nadree naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai vin karmaa paa-i-aa na jaa-ay.
It is by his grace that we contemplate on Naam. Without His Mercy, He cannot be realized.ਪ੍ਰਭੂ
Ni kwa neema yake ambapo tunatafakari kuhusu Naam. Bila huruma yake, Mungu hawezi kugunduliwa.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਇ ॥
poorai bhaag satsangat lahai satgur bhaytai jis aa-ay.
Through perfect destiny, one finds the holy congregation and meets the Guru.
Kupitia hatima kamili, mtu anapata ushirika takatifu na kukutana na Guru.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
an-din naamay rati-aa dukh bikhi-aa vichahu jaa-ay.
By always remaining imbued with God’s Name, the suffering from the love of Maya (worldly attachments) gets dispelled from within.
Kwa kubaki umezama katika jina la Mungu daima, kuteseka kutoka upendo wa Maya (viambatanisho vya kidunia) kunaondolewa kutoka ndani mwako.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੫੫॥
naanak sabad milaavrhaa naamay naam samaa-ay. ||4||22||55||
O’ Nanak, by merging with the Guru’s word, one obtains union with God.
Ee Nanak, kwa kuungana na neno la Guru, mtu anapata muungano na Mungu.

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
aapnaa bha-o tin paa-i-on jin gur kaa sabad beechaar.
They who deliberate over Guru’s Word, are blessed by his revered fear.
Wale wanaojadili kuhusu Neno la Guru, wamebarikiwa na uwoga wake wa heshima.

ਸਤਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
satsangtee sadaa mil rahay sachay kay gun saar.
They remain forever united with saintly persons and they dwell upon the Glories of the True One.
Daima wanabaki wameungana na watu watakatifu na wanazungumzia tukufu za yule Mmoja wa Kweli.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
dubiDhaa mail chukaa-ee-an har raakhi-aa ur Dhaar.
They cast off the filth of their mental duality, and they keep the Creator enshrined in their hearts.
Wanatupa mbali uchafu wao wa uwili wa kiakili, na wanaweka Muumba vizuri mioyoni mwao.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
sachee banee sach man sachay naal pi-aar. ||1||
True is their speech, and the True One resides in their minds. They are in love with the Him.
Ya kweli ni matamshi yake, na yule Mmoja wa Kweli anaishi akilini mwao. Wanapendezwa naye.

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
man mayray ha-umai mail bhar naal.
O’ my mind, the world is filled with the dirt of ego.
Ee akili yangu, dunia imejawa na uchafu wa ubinafsi.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har nirmal sadaa sohnaa sabad savaaranhaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But God is immaculate, and therefore is always beautiful. Through the Guru’s word, He is capable of embellishing the mortals.
Lakini Mungu ni safi kabisa, na hivyo basi daima ni mzuri. Kupitia neno la Guru, ana uweza wa kupamba binadamu.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
sachai sabad man mohi-aa parabh aapay la-ay milaa-ay.
Those who are fascinated with True Word of the Guru, God Himself blesses them with union with Him.
Wale ambao wamevutiwa na Neno la Kweli la Guru, Mungu mwenyewe anawabariki na muungano naye.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
an-din naamay rati-aa jotee jot samaa-ay.
Always imbued in Naam, they form a spiritual union with the Creator.
Wakiwa wamejawa na Naam daima, wanaunda muungano wa kiroho na Muumba.

ਜੋਤੀ ਹੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
jotee hoo parabh jaapdaa bin satgur boojh na paa-ay.
Through that inner spiritual light God is revealed; without the Guru’s guidance, the recognition of that inner light is not possible.
Kupitia hio mwanga wa kindani wa kiroho Mungu anadhihirishwa; bila mwongozo wa Guru, utambuzi wa huo mwanga wa ndani hauwezekani.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa satgur bhayti-aa tin aa-ay. ||2||
But the true Guru comes to meet only those who are so predestined.
Lakini Guru wa kweli anakuja kukutana na wale tu ambao wameagiziwa hivyo mapema.

ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਡੁਮਣੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇ ॥
vin naavai sabh dumnee doojai bhaa-ay khu-aa-ay.
Without Naam, they are entrapped by maya and are miserable. In love of duality they waste their life.
Bila Naam, wananaswa na Maya na wanakumbwa na taabu. Wakipendezwa na uwili wanaharibu uhai wao bure.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਦੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
tis bin gharhee na jeevdee dukhee rain vihaa-ay.
Without Him, one cannot live in peace even for an instant, and the entire life-night passes in anguish.
Bila Yeye, mtu hawezi kuishi kwa amani hata kwa muda mfupi, na maisha yao yote kama usiku yanapita katika taabu.

ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
bharam bhulaanaa anDhulaa fir fir aavai jaa-ay.
Wandering in doubt, and duality the spiritually blind come and go in cycle of birth and death, over and over again.
Wakizurura katika shaka, na uwili wao vipofu wa kiroho wanakuja na kuenda katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa, tena na tena.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
nadar karay parabh aapnee aapay la-ay milaa-ay. ||3||
When God bestows His Grace, He on His own, unites them with Himself.
Wakati Mungu anatawaza neema yake, Yeye mwenyewe, anawaunganisha naye.
