ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਸੋ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
roopvant so chatur si-aanaa.
He alone is handsome, clever and wise,
Yeye mwenyewe ni mtanashati, mwerevu na mwenye busara,
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
jin jan maani-aa parabh kaa bhaanaa. ||2||
who cheerfully surrenders to God’s will. ||2||
ambaye kwa furaha anajisalimisha kwa mapenzi ya Mungu.
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jag meh aa-i-aa so parvaan.
Only the advent of that person is approved in the world,
Ujio wa mtu huyo pekee umeidhinishwa duniani,
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
ghat ghat apnaa su-aamee jaan. ||3||
who sees the Master-God in each and every heart. ||3||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗ ॥
kaho naanak jaa kay pooran bhaag.
Nanak says, he whose destiny is perfect,

ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗ ॥੪॥੯੦॥੧੫੯॥
har charnee taa kaa man laag. ||4||90||159||
his mind remains attuned to God’s immaculate Name. ||4||90||159||

har kay daas si-o saakat nahee sang.
The faithless cynic (worshipper of Maya) does not associate with God’s devotee.
Mbeuzi asiye na imani (anayeabudu Maya) hajihusishi na mtawa wa Mungu.
ਓਹੁ ਬਿਖਈ ਓਸੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
oh bikh-ee os raam ko rang. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The faithless cynic is lured by vicious pleasures but God’s devotee is imbued with the love of God. ||1||Pause||
Mbeuzi asiye na imani anavutiwa na raha mbaya lakini mtawa wa Mungu amejawa na upendo wa Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਮਨ ਅਸਵਾਰ ਜੈਸੇ ਤੁਰੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ॥
man asvaar jaisay turee seegaaree.
Their association would be like an untrained person riding a decorated mare,
uhusiano wao ungekuwa kama mtu asiye na ujuzi wowote akiendesha farasi wa kike aliyepambwa.
ਜਿਉ ਕਾਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਚਾਰੈ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
ji-o kaapurakh puchaarai naaree. ||1||
or an impotent man trying to seduce a woman.||1||
ama mwanaume mwenye uhanithi wa kingono anayejaribu kutongoza mwanamke.
ਬੈਲ ਕਉ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਇ ਦੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
bail ka-o naytaraa paa-ay duhaavai.
The association between a cynic and God’s devotee would be like a person trying to milk a bull by putting a cord around its legs,
Uhusiano kati ya mbeuzi na mtawa wa Mungu ungekuwa kama mtu anayejaribu kukama ndume kwa kufunga kamba miguuni pake,
ਗਊ ਚਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
ga-oo char singh paachhai paavai. ||2||
or a person trying to chase a lion while riding a cow. ||2||
ama mtu anayejaribu kukimbiza simba akiendesha ng’ombe.
ਗਾਡਰ ਲੇ ਕਾਮਧੇਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੀ ॥
gaadar lay kaamDhayn kar poojee.
(The association between a cynic and God’s devotee) would be like worshipping a sheep, mistaking it for a wish fulfilling cow,
(Uhusiano kati ya mbeuzi na mtawa wa Mungu) ungekuwa kama kuabudu kondoo, ukimtofautisha na ng’ombe anayetimiza matakwa,
ਸਉਦੇ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ॥੩॥
sa-uday ka-o Dhaavai bin poonjee. ||3||
or a person going to the market to buy merchandise without any money. ||3||
ama mtu anayeenda sokoni kununua bidhaa bila hela yoyote.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਚੀਤ ॥
naanak raam naam jap cheet.
O’ Nanak, lovingly meditate on God’s Name in mind,
Ee Nanak, tafakari kwa upendo kwa Jina la Mungu akilini,
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਾ ਮੀਤ ॥੪॥੯੧॥੧੬੦॥
simar su-aamee har saa meet. ||4||91||160||
and meditate on God who is like a friend and master. ||4||91||160||
na utafakari kuhusu Mungu ambaye ni kama rafiki na bwana.

That intellect is said to be pure and steadfast,
Akili hiyo inasemekana kuwa safi na thabiti,
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥
raam rasaa-in peevat beer. ||1||
O’ brother, with the help of which one partakes the nectar of God’s Name. ||1||
Ee ndugu, kwa usaidizi wake mtu anashiriki nekta ya Jina la Mungu.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਰਿ ਓਟ ॥
har kay charan hirdai kar ot.
Keep the Support of God’s immaculate Name in your heart,
Weka Tegemezo ya Jina safi la Mungu moyoni mwako,
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਹੋਵਤ ਛੋਟ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam maran tay hovat chhot. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and you shall be saved from the cycle of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
na utakombolewa kutoka mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਨ ਪਾਪੁ ॥
so tan nirmal jit upjai na paap.
Immaculate is that body in which sin does not arise.
Safi ni mwili huo ambao ndani mwake dhambi haijitokezi.
ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੨॥
raam rang nirmal partaap. ||2||
A person who is immaculate because of God’s love becomes renouned. ||2||
Mtu ambaye ni safi kwa sababu ya upendo wa Mungu anakuwa maarufu.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
saaDhsang mit jaat bikaar.
All the vices are eradicated in the company of the saints.
Maovu yote yanaangamizwa katika uandamano wa watakatifu.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਏਹੋ ਉਪਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
sabh tay ooch ayho upkaar. ||3||
This is highest virtuous deed of the saints. ||3||
Hiki ni kitendo chema na cha juu zaidi cha watakatifu.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
paraym bhagat raatay gopaal.
Those who remain imbued with the loving devotion of God,
Wale wanaobaki wamejawa na kujitolea kwa upendo kwa Mungu,
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਚੈ ਸਾਧ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੪॥੯੨॥੧੬੧॥
naanak jaachai saaDh ravaal. ||4||92||161||
Nanak seeks the humble service of those saints. ||4||92||161||
Nanak anatafuta huduma nyenyekevu ya hao watakatifu.

ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
aisee pareet govind si-o laagee.
The devotees who are imbued with such a love of God,
Watawa ambao wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu kama huo,
ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mayl la-ay pooran vadbhaagee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He unites them with Himself through the perfect good destiny.||1||Pause||
Anawaunganisha naye mwenyewe kupitia hatima nzuri kamili. ||1||Sitisha||
ਭਰਤਾ ਪੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
bhartaa paykh bigsai ji-o naaree.
Just as a wife is delighted upon beholding her husband,
Kama vile mke anafurahishwa anapotazama mume wake,
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
ti-o har jan jeevai naam chitaaree. ||1||
similarly God’s devotee feels rejuvenated by meditating on God’s Name. ||1||
vivyo hivyo mtawa wa Mungu anahisi msisimko kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਪੂਤ ਪੇਖਿ ਜਿਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
poot paykh ji-o jeevat maataa.
Just as the mother is rejuvenated upon seeing her son,
Kama vile mama anasisimuliwa anapoona mwana wake,
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
ot pot jan har si-o raataa. ||2||
similarly the devotee is totally immeresed in God’s love. ||2||
vivyo hivyo mtawa amevama kabisa katika upendo wa Mungu.
ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨਦੁ ਕਰੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਧਨਾ ॥
lobhee anad karai paykh Dhanaa.
As the greedy person rejoices upon beholding his wealth,
Kama mtu mwenye tamaa anapofurahia akitazama utajiri wake,
ਜਨ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਮਨਾ ॥੩॥
jan charan kamal si-o laago manaa. ||3||
similarly the devotee’s mind remains attuned to God’s immaculate Name. ||3||
vivyo hivyo akili ya mtawa inabaki imemakinikia Jina safi la Mungu.
ਬਿਸਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੪॥੯੩॥੧੬੨॥
bisar nahee ik til daataar. naanak kay parabh paraan aDhaar. ||4||93||162||
O’ benevolent God, O’ the main support of Nanak’s life, “do not go out of my mind even for an instant”. ||4||93||162||
Ee Mungu mwema, Ee tegemezo kuu ya maisha ya Nanak, “usitoke akilini mwangu hata kwa muda mfupi”.

Those who remain immersed in the elixir of God’s Name,
Wale wanaobaki wamevama katika dawa ya Jina la Mungu,
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤੀ ਬੀਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan kamal paraym bhagtee beeDhay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
are attuned to the loving devotion of God. ||1||Pause||
wamemakinikia kujitolea kwa upendo kwa Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
aan rasaa deeseh sabh chhaar.
To them all other relishes seem like ashes
Kwao starehe yote nyingine inaonekana kama majivu
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੧॥
naam binaa nihfal sansaar. ||1||
Without Naam the entire worldly wealth is useless to them. ||1||
Bila Naam utajiri mzima wa kidunia ni bure kwao.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
anDh koop tay kaadhay aap.
God Himself pulls them out of the blind well of worldly desires.
Mungu mwenyewe anawatoa kwenye kisima kipofu cha hamu za kidunia.
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਅਚਰਜ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥੨॥
gun govind achraj partaap. ||2||
Wondrous and glorious are the Praises of God. ||2||
Ya Ajabu na Tukufu ni Sifa za Mungu.
ਵਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
van tarin taribhavan pooran gopaal.
In the woods and meadows and throughout the three worlds, the Sustainer of the Universe is pervading.
Katika msitu na makonde na kupitia dunia zote tatu, Mtunzaji wa Ulimwengu anaenea.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੩॥
barahm pasaar jee-a sang da-i-aal. ||3||
The merciful Master of the entire expanse is always with the mortals. ||3||
Bwana mwenye huruma wa upanuzi mzima daima yupo na binadamu.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਕਥਨੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
kaho naanak saa kathnee saar.
Nanak says, the utterance of God’s praises alone is sublime,
Nanak anasema, matamshi ya sifa za Mungu pekee ni tukufu,
ਮਾਨਿ ਲੇਤੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੯੪॥੧੬੩॥
maan layt jis sirjanhaar. ||4||94||163||
which is approved by the Creator Himself. ||4||94||163||

Everyday meditate on God’s Name as if you are taking a bath in the sacred Pool of Naam.
Kila siku tafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kana kwamba unaoga katika kidimbwi takatifu cha Naam.
ਝੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jhol mahaa ras har amrit peejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Lovingly partake this ambrosial elixir of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
Shiriki dawa hii ya ambrosia ya Jina la Mungu kwa upendo. ||1||Sitisha||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਉਦਕੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਨਾਮ ॥
nirmal udak govind kaa naam.
Immaculate is the water of God’s Name,
Maji ya Jina la Mungu ni safi,
ਮਜਨੁ ਕਰਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥
majan karat pooran sabh kaam. ||1||
by bathing in it all one’s tasks are accomplished. ||1||
kwa kuoga ndani mwake kazi zote za mtu zinafanikishwa.
