ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
ghar meh nij ghar paa-i-aa satgur day-ay vadaa-ee.
That person realizes God within his mind and the true Guru blesses him with honor.
Mtu huyo anagundua Mungu ndani mwa akili yake na Guru wa kweli anambariki na staha.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਈ ॥੪॥੬॥
naanak jo naam ratay say-ee mahal paa-in mat parvaan sach saa-ee. ||4||6||
O’ Nanak, only those who are imbued with Naam realize the presence of God; their intellect is approved by God. ||4||6||
Ee Nanak, ni wale tu ambao wamepenyezwa na Naam wanagundua uwepo wa Mungu; uwekevu wao umeidhinishwa na Mungu.

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa Kweli:
ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayrai man mayrai man satgur pareet lagaa-ee raam.
The Guru has imbued my mind with the love for God.
Guru amepenyeza akili yangu na upendo wa Mungu.
ਲਾਲ ਭਏ ਸੂਹਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
laal bha-ay soohaa rang maa-i-aa.
Instead of affinity with the fast-fading Maya, I am now imbued with the eternal love of God’s Name.
Badala ya mshikamano kwa Maya inayofifia haraka, sasa nimejawa na upendo wa milele wa Jina la Mungu.
ਨਦਰਿ ਭਈ ਬਿਖੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
nadar bha-ee bikh thaak rahaa-i-aa. ||2||
I have been blessed with the glance of His Grace which has stalled any effect ofpoisonous Maya upon me. ||2||
Nimebarikiwa na mtazamo wa Neema yake ambao umesitisha athari yoyote ya Maya yenye sumu kwangu.
ਉਲਟ ਭਈ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਗਿਆ ॥
ulat bha-ee jeevat mar jaagi-aa.
My mind has turned away from the lure of worldly attachments and I am now spiritually awakened.
Akili yangu imegeuka kutoka kivutio cha viambatisho vya kihisia na sasa nimeamshwa kiroho.
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਵੇ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿਆ ॥
sabad ravay man har si-o laagi-aa.
By meditating through the Guru’s word, my mind has become attuned to God.
Kwa kutafakari kupitia neno la Guru, akili yangu imemakinikia Mungu.
ਰਸੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ॥
ras sangrahi bikh parhar ti-aagi-aa.
By amassing the nectar of Naam, I have been able to abandon forever, the venom of Maya.
Kwa kukusanya nekta ya Naam, nimeweza kuasi milele, sumu ya Maya.
ਭਾਇ ਬਸੇ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਿਆ ॥੩॥
bhaa-ay basay jam kaa bha-o bhaagi-aa. ||3||
Being imbued with God’s love, my fear of death has vanished. ||3||
Kwa kujawa na upendo wa Mungu, uoga wa ngu wa kifo umepotea.
ਸਾਦ ਰਹੇ ਬਾਦੰ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
saad rahay baadaN ahaNkaaraa.
My lure for worldly pleasures has ended and so has my egotism.
Kivutio changu kwa raha za kidunia kimekwisha na ndivyo ubinafsi wangu pia.
ਚਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
chit har si-o raataa hukam apaaraa.
My mind is imbued with God’s love and now I abide by the command of the infinite God.
Akili yangu imejawa na upendo wa Mungu na sasa naishi kwa amri ya Mungu asiye na mwisho.
ਜਾਤਿ ਰਹੇ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਆਚਾਰਾ ॥
jaat rahay pat kay aachaaraa.
Gone are my efforts to win false praise from others.
Jitihada zangu za kupata sifa ya uongo kutoka wengine zimekwisha.
ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਤਮ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
darisat bha-ee sukh aatam Dhaaraa. ||4||
Instead, with God’s glance of grace, I have attained the spiritual bliss. ||4||
Badala yake, kwa mtazamo wa neema ya Mungu, nimepata raha tele ya kiroho.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਦੇਖਉ ਮੀਤੁ ॥
tujh bin ko-ay na daykh-a-u meet.
O’ God, without You I don’t acknowledge anybody as my friend.
Ee Mungu, bila Wewe sikiri yeyote kuwa rafiki wangu.
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਉ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
kis sayva-o kis dayva-o cheet.
Upon whom should I meditate? Unto whom should I dedicate my conscience?
Nafaa kutafakari kuhusu nani? Ninafaa kuweka wakfu dhamira yangu kwa nani?
ਕਿਸੁ ਪੂਛਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
kis poochha-o kis laaga-o paa-ay.
Whom may I ask for guidance and before whom may I bow?
Nimuulizie nani mwongozo na nisujudu mbele ya nani?
ਕਿਸੁ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੫॥
kis updays rahaa liv laa-ay. ||5||
By following whose advice can I remain attuned to You? ||5||
Naweza kubaki nimekumakinikia kwa kufuata ushauri wa nani?
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੀ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
gur sayvee gur laaga-o paa-ay.
Since the Guru’s word has given me the true wisdom, I accept and follow his teachings with utmost reverence.
Kwani neno la Guru limenipa hekima halisi, nakubali na kufuata mafundisho yake kwa heshima kamili.
ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਰਾਚਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
bhagat karee raacha-o har naa-ay.
I meditate on God and remain attuned to His Name.
Natafakari kuhusu Mungu na kubaki nimemakinikia Jina lake.
ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦੀਖਿਆ ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਉ ॥
sikhi-aa deekhi-aa bhojan bhaa-o.
I have accepted the Guru’s teaching as my mantra and the Guru’s love as my spiritual food.
Nimekubali mafundisho ya Guru kama mantra yangu na upendo wa Guru kama chakula changu cha kiroho.
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥
hukam sanjogee nij ghar jaa-o. ||6||
I have realized God within me through the preordained destiny.||6||
Nimemgundua Mungu ndani mwangu kupitia hatima iliyoagiziwa mapema.
ਗਰਬ ਗਤੰ ਸੁਖ ਆਤਮ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
garab gataN sukh aatam Dhi-aanaa.
With the extinction of ego, my soul is peacefully attuned in meditation.
Kwa kuangamizwa kwa ubinafsi, roho yangu imemakinika kwa amani katika kutafakari.
ਜੋਤਿ ਭਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
jot bha-ee jotee maahi samaanaa.
The divine light has dawned and I have merged with the Supreme Light.
Mwanga takatifu umepambazuka na nimeungana na Mwanga Kuu.
ਲਿਖਤੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨਾ ॥
likhat mitai nahee sabad neesaanaa.
The Guru’s word is so deeply etched on my heart that it cannot be erased.
Neno la Guru limewekwa kwa kina sana moyoni mwangu hadi haliwezi kufutwa.
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੭॥
kartaa karnaa kartaa jaanaa. ||7||
I have realized the Creator as the doer of everything. ||7||
Nimegundua Muumba kama mtendaji wa kila kitu.
ਨਹ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਨਹ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
nah pandit nah chatur si-aanaa.
I am neither a Pandit nor do I possess any wisdom.
Mimi siye mwalimu wa busara wala similiki hekima yoyote.
ਨਹ ਭੂਲੋ ਨਹ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
nah bhoolo nah bharam bhulaanaa.
Neither have I strayed from the righteous path nor am I deluded by any doubt.
Wala sijapotoka kutoka njia ya haki wala sijadanganywa kwa shaka yoyote.
ਕਥਉ ਨ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
katha-o na kathnee hukam pachhaanaa.
I don’t talk smart but I understand God’s will.
Sizungumzi kwa uwerevu lakini naelewa mapenzi ya Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak gurmat sahj samaanaa. ||8||1||
O’ Nanak say, “I have attained a state of equipoise through the Guru’s teachings”. ||8||1||.
Ee Nanak sema, “nimepata hali ya usawa kupitia mafundisho ya Guru”.

man kunchar kaa-i-aa udi-aanai.
Our mind is like an elephant roaming in the body like forest.
Akili yetu ni kama tembo anayezurura katika nyika kama mwili.
ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੈ ॥
gur ankas sach sabad neesaanai.
That elephant like mind which follows the Guru’s teaching has the signia of divine word and
Akili hiyo kama tembo inayofuata mafundisho ya Guru ina ishara ya neno takatifu na
ਰਾਜ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਸੋਭ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
raaj du-aarai sobh so maanai. ||1||
attains honor in God’s court. ||1||
Inapata heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਨਹ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
chaturaa-ee nah cheeni-aa jaa-ay.
The real worth of a person cannot be understood through his clever actions.
Thamana halisi ya mtu haiwezi kueleweka kupitia vitendo vya ujanja.
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin maaray ki-o keemat paa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without being under complete control, how can the mind attain any respect. |1||Pause|
Bila kudhibitiwa kikamilifu, akili inawezaje kupata heshima yoyote. ||1||Sitisha||
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਲੇਈ ॥
ghar meh amrit taskar lay-ee.
Within the human heart is present the ambrosial nectar of Naam which is being stolen by thieves namely lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego.
Ndani mwa moyo wa binadamu kuwepo nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam ambayo inaibwa na wezi wanaoitwa ukware, hasira, tamaa, kiambatisho na ubinafsi.
ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
nannaakaar na ko-ay karay-ee.
None of our senses forbid these thieves from doing their undesirable actions.
Hakuna kati ya hisi zetu zinazokataza wezi hao kutoka kufanya vitendo vyao vizivyo vizuri.
ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਈ ॥੨॥
raakhai aap vadi-aa-ee day-ee. ||2||
The person whom God Himself protects, is blessed with honor. ||2||
Mtu ambaye Mungu mwenyewe analinda, anabarikiwa kwa heshima.
ਨੀਲ ਅਨੀਲ ਅਗਨਿ ਇਕ ਠਾਈ ॥
neel aneel agan ik thaa-ee.
There are countless ferocious desires in the mind of a person.
Kuna hamu kali zisizohesabika akilini mwa mtu.
ਜਲਿ ਨਿਵਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
jal nivree gur boojh bujhaa-ee.
These fierce desires are calmed down with the elixir of Naam when the Guru blesses us with this wisdom.
Hamu hizi kali zinatulizwa kwa dawa ya Naam wakati Guru anatubariki na hekima hii.
ਮਨੁ ਦੇ ਲੀਆ ਰਹਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੩॥
man day lee-aa rahas gun gaa-ee. ||3||
One who surrenders his mind to the Guru, he attains Naam and then delightfully sings the praises of God. ||3||
Yule anayesalimisha akili yake kwa Guru, anapata Naam na kwa furaha anaimba sifa za Mungu.
ਜੈਸਾ ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਤੈਸਾ ॥
jaisaa ghar baahar so taisaa.
God is the same in the home as He is outside the home.
Mungu yu sawa nyumbani alivyo nje ya nyumba.
ਬੈਸਿ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਆਖਉ ਕੈਸਾ ॥
bais gufaa meh aakha-o kaisaa.
Being in the cave of the body, how can I describe Him?
Nikiwa kwenye pango la mwili, nitawezaje kumweleza?
ਸਾਗਰਿ ਡੂਗਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਐਸਾ ॥੪॥
saagar doogar nirbha-o aisaa. ||4||
The same fearless God pervades everywhere, in oceans and in mountains. ||4||
Mungu huyo huyo asiye na woga anaenea kote, katika bahari na milima.
ਮੂਏ ਕਉ ਕਹੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ॥
moo-ay ka-o kaho maaray ka-un.
If this elephant like mind remains under the Guru’s direction, then none of the vices can attack it.
Iwapo akili hii kama tembo ibaki katika mwelekezo wa Guru, basi hakuna uovu unaoweza kuishambulia.
ਨਿਡਰੇ ਕਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਡਰੁ ਕਵਨੁ ॥
nidray ka-o kaisaa dar kavan.
If it becomes fearless by following the Guru’s teachings then no worldly fear can come near him.
Iwapo awe bila hofu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru basi hakuna hofu ya kidunia inaweza kumkaribia.
ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ਤੀਨੇ ਭਉਨ ॥੫॥
sabad pachhaanai teenay bha-un. ||5||
Through the Guru’s word the mind realizes that the fearless God dwells in all the three worlds. ||5||
Kupitia neno la Guru akili inagundua kwamba Mungu asiye na woga anaishi katika dunia zote tatu.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਹਨੁ ਵਖਾਨਿਆ ॥
jin kahi-aa tin kahan vakhaani-aa.
Those who merely speak (of God) indulge in vain prattle.
Wale wanaozungumza tu (kuhusu Mungu) wanajishughulisha katika matamshi bure.
ਜਿਨਿ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
jin boojhi-aa tin sahj pachhaani-aa.
By the Guru’s grace, one who realizes the Truth and intuitively knows that God is pervading everywhere.
Kwa neema ya Guru, mtu anayegundua Ukweli na kwa hisia na silika anajua kwamba Mungu anaenea kote.
ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੬॥
daykh beechaar mayraa man maani-aa. ||6||
It is only after realizing His presence everywhere and reflecting upon His virtues that my mind is convinced of His all-pervasive nature. ||6||
Ni baada tu ya kugundua uwepo wake kila mahali na kutafakari kuhusu fadhila zake ambapo akili yangu inashawishika kuhusu silika yake ya kuenea kote.
ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਇਕ ਨਾਈ ॥
keerat soorat mukat ik naa-ee.
One who meditates on Naam is liberated from vices and becomes beautiful and praiseworthy.
Yule anayetafakari kuhusu Naam anakombolewa kutoka maovu na anakuwa mzuri na anayestahili sifa.
ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
tahee niranjan rahi-aa samaa-ee.
Within him dwells the immaculate God.
Ndani mwake mnaishi Mungu safi.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਜ ਠਾਈ ॥੭॥
nij ghar bi-aap rahi-aa nij thaa-ee. ||7||
His heart becomes the dwelling of God where He resides eternally. ||7||
Moyo wake unakuwa makao ya Mungu ambapo anaishi milele.
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
ustat karahi kaytay mun pareet.
Myriads of silent sages lovingly praise God.
Maelfu ya wanyamavu wenye hekima wanasifu Mungu kwa upendo.
