ਜੋਗ ਜਗ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਨਉ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਸੁ ਬਿਸਰਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
jog jag nihfal tih maan-o jo parabh jas bisraavai. ||1||
One forsakes singing praises of God, deem all his yogic efforts and sacrificial feasts as fruitless ||1||
Mtu anayeacha kuimba sifa za Mungu, fikiria jitihada zake zote za yoga na karamu za dhabihu kuwa bila mafanikio.

ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਦੋਨੋ ਕਉ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
maan moh dono ka-o parhar gobind kay gun gaavai.
One who lays aside both ego and undue love for worldly attachment and sings the praises ofGod;
Yule anayejitenga na ubinafsi na upendo usiofaa wa kiambatisho cha kidunia na kuimba sifa za Mungu;

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੨॥
kaho naanak ih biDh ko paraanee jeevan mukat kahaavai. ||2||2||
Nanak says by doing this, that person is said to be liberated from the vices while yet alive. ||2||2||
Nanak anasema kwa kufanya hivi, mtu huyo anasemekana kuwa amekombolewa kutoka maovu akiwa bado hai.

ਜਾ ਮੈ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jaa mai bhajan raam ko naahee.
One who does not remember God,
Yule ambaye hamkumbuki Mungu,

ਤਿਹ ਨਰ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਕਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇਆ ਯਹ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tih nar janam akaarath kho-i-aa yeh raakho man maahee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
keep this in mind, that person has wasted away the precious human life in vain. ||1||Pause||
weka hii akilini, mtu huyo ametumia vibaya maisha yenye thamani ya kibinadamu bure.

ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰੈ ਬ੍ਰਤ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਹ ਮਨੂਆ ਬਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੋ ॥
tirath karai barat fun raakhai nah manoo-aa bas jaa ko.
One whose mind is not under his control, even if he goes on pilgrimages and observes many fasts,
Yule ambaye akili yake haipo katika udhibiti wake, hata iwapo aende kwa hija na kufunga mara nyingi,

ਨਿਹਫਲ ਧਰਮੁ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਤ ਮੈ ਯਾ ਕਉ ॥੧॥
nihfal Dharam taahi tum maanhu saach kahat mai yaa ka-o. ||1||
consider such religious deeds useless and I say this truth even to that person. ||1||
fikiria vitendo kama hivyo vya kidini kuwa bure na ninasema ukweli huu hata kwa mtu huyo.

ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਹਨੁ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਭੇਦੈ ਨਾਹਿ ਤਿਹ ਪਾਨੀ ॥
jaisay paahan jal meh raakhi-o bhaydai naahi tih paanee.
Just as water does not pierce or softens a stone kept in water,
Kama vile maji hayapenyezi au kulainisha jiwe lililowekwa majini,

ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਤਾਹਿ ਪਛਾਨਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੀਨ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
taisay hee tum taahi pachhaanahu bhagat heen jo paraanee. ||2||
similarly consider that person like a stone who lacks devotional worship. ||2||
vivyo hivyo fikiria mtu huyo kama jiwe ambaye hana ibada ya ujitoaji.

ਕਲ ਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਾਮ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਤ ਗੁਰੁ ਯਹ ਭੇਦੁ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥
kal mai mukat naam tay paavat gur yeh bhayd bataavai.
The Guru tells this secret, that in Kal Jug (present age), one receives liberationfrom the vices only through Naam.
Guru anafichua siri hii, kwamba katika Kal Jug (enzi ya hivi sasa), mtu anapokea ukombozi kutoka maovu kupitia Naam peke yake.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਈ ਨਰੁ ਗਰੂਆ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੩॥੩॥
kaho naanak so-ee nar garoo-aa jo parabh kay gun gaavai. ||3||3||
Nanak says, he alone is worthy of honor who sings the praises of God. ||3||3||
Nanak anasema, yeye peke yake anastahili staha anayeimba sifa za Mungu.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa Kweli:

ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
nikat vasai daykhai sabh so-ee.
God dwells very near (within) us and cherishes us all,
Mungu anaishi karibu mno (ndani mwetu) nasi na anatuthamini sote,

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gurmukh virlaa boojhai ko-ee.
but only a very rare Guru’s follower realizes this truth.
Lakini mfuasi wa Guru nadra peke yake anagundua ukweli huu.

ਵਿਣੁ ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
vin bhai pa-i-ai bhagat na ho-ee.
Devotional worship of God cannot be performed without having His revered fear.
Ibada ya ujitaoji ya Mungu haiwezi kufanywa bila kuwa na uoga kwa heshima Yake.

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
sabad ratay sadaa sukh ho-ee. ||1||
Those people who are imbued with Naam through the Guru’s divine word, always live in celestial peace. ||1||
Wale watu ambao wamepenyezwa na Naam kupitia kwa neno takatifu la guru, wanaishi kwa amani ya kimbingu daima.

ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
aisaa gi-aan padaarath naam.
Such is the spiritual wisdom and the wealth of Naam;
Ndivyo ilivyo hekima ya kiroho na utajiri wa Naam;

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh paavas ras ras maan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
the Guru’s follower who receives Naam and always recites it delightfully, and is honored (both here and hereafter). ||1||Pause||
mfuasi wa Guru anayepokea Naam na daima anaikariri kwa furaha, na anaenziwa (humu na akhera pia). ||1||Sitisha||

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
gi-aan gi-aan kathai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone talks about spiritual wisdom and spiritual knowledge.
Kila mtu anazungumzia hekima ya kiroho na maarifa ya kiroho.

ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
kath kath baad karay dukh ho-ee.
and by doing so, one enters into arguments and becomes miserable.
Na kwa kufanya hivyo, mtu anaingia katika mabishano na anataabika.

ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
kath kahnai tay rahai na ko-ee.
One neither desists from talking and discussing about one’s knowledge,
Mtu haachi kuzungumza na kujadili kuhusu maarifa yake,

ਬਿਨੁ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
bin ras raatay mukat na ho-ee. ||2||
and nor does he realize that liberation from vices cannot be received without being imbued with the elixir of God’s Name. ||2||
Na wala hagundui kwamba ukombozi kutoka maovu hauwezi kupokelewa bila kupenyezwa na dawa ya Jina la Mungu.

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan sabh gur tay ho-ee.
Spiritual wisdom about God and the way to attune Him is received through the Guru’s teachings.
Hekima ya kiroho kuhusu Mungu na njia ya kumakinikia Yeye inapokelewa kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਸਾਚੀ ਰਹਤ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
saachee rahat saachaa man so-ee.
One who lives a truthful life, realizes God dwelling within his mind.
Mtu anayeishi maisha ya ukweli, anagundua Mungu akiishi akilini mwake.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੈ ਪਰੁ ਰਹਤ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
manmukh kathnee hai par rahat na ho-ee.
The self-willed person talks about spiritual wisdom, but does not practice it.
Mtu mwenye nia binafsi anazungumzia hekima ya kiroho, lakini hatendi kulingana nayo.

ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਥਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥
naavhu bhoolay thaa-o na ko-ee. ||3||
Being strayed from God’s Name, he finds no place of rest or peace. ||3||
Akipotoshwa kutoka Jina la Mungu, yeye hapati pahali pa kupumzika au amani.

ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧਿਓ ਸਰ ਜਾਲਿ ॥
man maa-i-aa banDhi-o sar jaal.
The worldly riches have pinned down one’s mind with the arrows of love for it.
Utajiri wa kidunia umeambatisha akili ya mtu kwa mishale ya upendo wake.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
ghat ghat bi-aap rahi-o bikh naal.
Even though God is enshrined in each and every heart, yet everybody is afflicted with Maya which is like a poison for spiritual life.
Hata iwapo Mungu amethaminiwa katika kila moyo, ila kila mtu ameathiriwa na Maya ambayo ni kama sumu kwa maisha ya kiroho.

ਜੋ ਆਂਜੈ ਸੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਕਾਲਿ ॥
jo aaNjai so deesai kaal.
Whosoever comes to this world, seems to be in the grip of spiritual death.
Yeyote anayekuja kwa dunia hii, anaonekana kuwa katika mshiko wa kifo cha kiroho.

ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੀਧੋ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥੪॥
kaaraj seeDho ridai samHaal. ||4||
The task of achieving the purpose of human life is accomplished only by always remembering and enshrining God’s Name in the heart. ||4||
Kazi ya kutimiza kusudi la maisha ya kibinadamu inafanikishwa tu kwa kukumbuka daima na kuthamini Jina la Mungu moyoni.

ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
so gi-aanee jin sabad liv laa-ee.
He alone is spiritually wise, who has attuned himself to God through the Guru’s divine word.
Yeye peke yake ana hekima ya kiroho, ambaye amejipatanisha kwa Mungu kupitia kwa neno takatifu la Guru.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
manmukh ha-umai pat gavaa-ee.
Because of egotism, the self-willed person loses his honor.
Kwa sababu ya ubinafsi, mtu mwenye hiari binafsi anapoteza staha yake.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
aapay kartai bhagat karaa-ee.
The Creator-God Himself inspires people to His devotional worship,
Muumba-Mungu Mwenyewe anahamasisha watu kwa ibada yake ya ujitoaji,

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੫॥
gurmukh aapay day vadi-aa-ee. ||5||
and He Himself blesses them with glory through the Guru’s teachings. ||5||
na Yeye Mwenyewe anawabariki na utukufu kupitia kwa mafundisho ya Guru.

ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ॥
rain anDhaaree nirmal jot.
Generally one lives his life in the darkness of spiritual ignorance, which can only be enlightened by the immaculate divine light.
Kwa ujumla mtu anaishi maisha yake katika giza ya ujinga wa kiroho, ambayo inaweza tu kuangazwa kwa mwanga safi mtakatifu.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਕੁਚਲ ਕਛੋਤਿ ॥
naam binaa jhoothay kuchal kachhot.
Those who lack Naam, utter false and vicious words; they also mislead others, as if they are liars, filthy and untouchable.
Wale wasio na naam, wanatamka maneno maongo na katili; pia wanapotosha wengine, kana kwamba ni waongo, wachafu na wasioweza kuguswa.

ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰੋਤਿ ॥
bayd pukaarai bhagat sarot.
The Vedas (religious books) preach sermons of devotional worship.
Vedas (vitabu vya kidini) zinahubiri mahubiri ya ibada ya ujitoaji.

ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਜੋਤਿ ॥੬॥
sun sun maanai vaykhai jot. ||6||
One who listens and believes it, beholds the divine light everywhere. ||6||
Yule anayesikiliza na kuyaamini, anatazama mwanga mtakatifu kila mahali.

ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਮੰ ॥
saastar simrit naam darirh-aam.
The Shaastras and Simritees strongly stress upon remembering Naam.
Shastras na Simritees zinasisitiza mno kuhusu kukumbuka Naam.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਾਮੰ ॥
gurmukh saaNt ootam karaamaN.
Those who follow the Guru’s teachings (and remember God), do sublime deeds and celestial peace wells up within them.
Wale wanaofuata mafundisho ya Guru (na kukumbuka Mungu), wanatenda vitendo tukufu na amani ya kimbingu inatokea ndani mwao.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੂਖ ਸਹਾਮੰ ॥
manmukh jonee dookh sahaamaN.
The self-willed people suffer the misery of going through the reincarnation.
Watu wenye hiari binafsi wanateseka taabu ya kupitia umwilisho.

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਮੰ ॥੭॥
banDhan tootay ik naam vasaamaN. ||7||
His bonds of Maya are broken only by enshrining God’s Name in the heart. ||7||
Vifungo vyake vya Maya vinavunjwa tu kwa kuthamini Jina la Mungu moyoni.

ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
mannay naam sachee pat poojaa.
True honor and adoration is received by believing in God’s Name.
Staha na ibada ya kweli inapokelewa kwa kuweka imani katika Jina la Mungu.

ਕਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
kis vaykhaa naahee ko doojaa.
Whom else should I see, when there is none other except God?
Ninapaswa kumuona nani mwengine, wakati hakuna yeyote mwengine ila Mungu?

ਦੇਖਿ ਕਹਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
daykh kaha-o bhaavai man so-ay.
Beholding Him everywhere, I sing His praises and He is pleasing to my mind.
Kwa kumtazama yeye kila mahali, ninaimba sifa Zake na Yeye anapendeza kwa akili yangu.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak kahai avar nahee ko-ay. ||8||1||
Nanak says, there is no one other at all. ||8||1||
Nanak anasema, hakuna mwengine yeyote hata mmoja.
