ਏਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਲਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾ ॥
ayhu jag jaltaa daykh kai bhaj pa-ay satgur sarnaa.
Seeing Humanity burning in the fires of desire, some run to the Guru’s sanctuary.
Wakiona Binadamu wakiteketea katika moto wa tamaa, wengine wanakimbilia pahala patakatifu pa Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਰਹਣਾ ॥
satgur sach dirhaa-i-aa sadaa sach sanjam rahnaa.
The Guru guides them to realize the Truth, and teaches them the way to always live in truthfulness and self-restraint.
Guru anawaongoza kugundua Ukweli, kisha anawafunza njia ya kuishi katika ukweli na kujizuia daima.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੬
satgur sachaa hai bohithaa sabday bhavjal tarnaa. ||6||
The Guru is like a true ship, riding which (following the teachings of the Guru), one can cross this worldly ocean of vices.
Guru ni kama meli ya kweli, ambayo akibebwa nayo (kufuata mafundisho ya Guru), mtu anaweza kuvuka hii dunia kama bahari ya dhambi.
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh firday rahay bin satgur mukat na ho-ee.
People have been wandering through countless cycles of birth and death, but they never found salvation without the True Guru.
Watu wamekuwa wakizurura wakipitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa isiyohesabika, lakini kamwe hawakupata wokovu bila Guru wa kweli.
ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
parh parh pandit monee thakay doojai bhaa-ay pat kho-ee.
Reading and studying, the Pandits and the silent sages have grown weary, but attached to the love of duality, they have lost their honor.
Kwa kusoma na kujifunza, walimu wenye busara na wajuzi wanyamavu wamechoka, lakini wakiambatishwa kwa upendo wa uwili, wamepoteza heshima yao.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਚੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੭॥
satgur sabad sunaa-i-aa bin sachay avar na ko-ee. ||7||
The Guru uttered the Divine word that without the Eternal God, there is no one else who can save the human beings.
Guru alitamka neno Takatifu ya kuwa bila Mungu wa Milele, hakuna mwengine ambaye anaweza kukomboa binadamu.
ਜੋ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਏ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
jo sachai laa-ay say sach lagay nit sachee kaar karann.
They whom God blessed with His remembrance, remain attuned to Naam and they always act in Truth.
Wale ambao Mungu alibariki na ukumbusho wake, wanabaki wamemakinika kwa Naam na daima wanatenda katika Ukweli.
ਤਿਨਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥
tinaa nij ghar vaasaa paa-i-aa sachai mahal rahann.
They have found God dwelling in their own self.
Wamepata makao ya Mungu katika nafsi yao.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਚੰਨਿ ॥੮॥੧੭॥੮॥੨੫॥
naanak bhagat sukhee-ay sadaa sachai naam rachann. ||8||17||8||25||
O Nanak, the devotees are happy and peaceful forever. They are absorbed in the True Name.

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਬਣੈ ਢੋਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਦੇਇ ॥
jaa ka-o muskal at banai dho-ee ko-ay na day-ay.
The one who is faced with terrible hardships, and no one offers any support,
Yule ambaye anakumbwa na taabu mbaya, na hakuna mtu anatoa msaada wowote,
ਲਾਗੂ ਹੋਏ ਦੁਸਮਨਾ ਸਾਕ ਭਿ ਭਜਿ ਖਲੇ ॥
laagoo ho-ay dusmanaa saak bhe bhaj khalay.
his enemies may be after him, even relatives have deserted him,
adui wake wanaweza kuwa wanamfukuza, hata jamaa wamejitenga naye,
ਸਭੋ ਭਜੈ ਆਸਰਾ ਚੁਕੈ ਸਭੁ ਅਸਰਾਉ ॥
sabho bhajai aasraa chukai sabh asraa-o.
and when all support is gone, and all hope has been lost,
Na wakati msaada wote umeenda, ma matumaini yote yamepotea,
ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਤਤੀ ਵਾਉ ॥੧॥
chit aavai os paarbarahm lagai na tatee vaa-o. ||1||
yet, if that person remembers the all pervading God, he will not suffer the slightest harm.
Ila, iwapo mtu huyo amkumbuke Mungu anayeenea kote, hatateseka madhara hata kidogo.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਿਤਾਣਿਆ ਕਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
saahib nitaani-aa kaa taan.
Our Master is the strength of the weakest.
Bwana wetu ni nguvu ya wanyonge zaidi.
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aa-ay na jaa-ee thir sadaa gur sabdee sach jaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He does not come or go; He is Eternal and Permanent. Through the Word of the Guru, He is known as True (ever existing).
Yeye haji wala kuenda; Yeye anadumu na kuwepo milele. Kupitia Neno la Guru, anajulikana kama wa Kweli (daima yupo).
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੁਬਲਾ ਨੰਗ ਭੁਖ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ॥
jay ko hovai dublaa nang bhukh kee peer.
If a person is weakened by the pains of hunger and poverty,
Iwapo mtu amedhoofishwa na uchungu wa njaa na ufukara,
ਦਮੜਾ ਪਲੈ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਧੀਰ ॥
damrhaa palai naa pavai naa ko dayvai Dheer.
with no money in his pocket, and no one to give any comfort,
bila pesa mfukoni mwake, na hakuna mtu wa kumstarehesha,
ਸੁਆਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਉ ਨ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਾਜੁ ॥
su-aarath su-aa-o na ko karay naa kichh hovai kaaj.
his hopes and desires are not fulfilled, and none of his work is accomplished,
matumaini yake na hamu hajizatimizwa, na hakuna kazi yake ambayo imefanikishwa,
ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਰਾਜੁ ॥੨॥
chit aavai os paarbarahm taa nihchal hovai raaj. ||2||
yet, if that person remembers the all pervading God, he may be blessed with everlasting kingdom (countless riches).
Ila, iwapo mtu huyo amkumbuke Mungu anayeenea kote, anaweza kubarikiwa na ufalme wa milele (utajiri usiokadirika).
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
jaa ka-o chintaa bahut bahut dayhee vi-aapai rog.
The one who is plagued by excessive anxiety, and diseases of the body;
Yule ambaye anasumbuliwa na wasiwasi kupindukia, na magonjwa ya mwili;
ਗ੍ਰਿਸਤਿ ਕੁਟੰਬਿ ਪਲੇਟਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਹਰਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਸੋਗੁ ॥
garisat kutamb palayti-aa kaday harakh kaday sog.
and he is wrapped up in the attachments of household and family, sometimes feeling joy, and then other times sorrow;
na amefungwa kwa viambatisho vya nyumba na familia, wakati mwingine anahisi furaha, na kisha wakati mwingine huzuni;
ਗਉਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਕਾ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
ga-on karay chahu kunt kaa gharhee na baisan so-ay.
wandering around in all four directions, and cannot sit or sleep even for a moment,
anazurura katika pande zote nne, wala hawezi kukaa au kulala hata kwa muda mfupi,
ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
chit aavai os paarbarahm tan man seetal ho-ay. ||3||
even then if he contemplates on the Supreme God, his body and mind would attain perfect calm and peace.
Hata wakati huo akitafakari kuhusu Mungu Mkuu, mwili wake na akili itafikia utulivu na amani kamili.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਲੋਭਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
kaam karoDh mohi vas kee-aa kirpan lobh pi-aar.
If a person is under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with his wealth;
Iwapo mtu yu chini ya nguvu ya hamu ya ngono, hasira na viambatisho vya kidunia, ama ni mdhalifu mwenye tamaa anayependezwa tu na utajiri wake;
ਚਾਰੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਉਨਿ ਅਘ ਕੀਏ ਹੋਆ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੁ ॥
chaaray kilvikh un agh kee-ay ho-aa asur sanghaar.
if he has committed all the great sins and mistakes and becomes a demonic murderer,
iwapo ametenda dhambi na makosa yote makuu na anakuwa muuaji mwenye pepo,
ਪੋਥੀ ਗੀਤ ਕਵਿਤ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਕਰਨਿ ਧਰਿਆ ॥
pothee geet kavit kichh kaday na karan Dhari-aa.
if he has never taken the time to listen to sacred books, hymns and poetry,
iwapo hajawahi huchukua muda wake kusikiza vitabu vitakatifu, nyimbo za kidini na ushairi,
ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਤਰਿਆ ॥੪॥
chit aavai os paarbarahm taa nimakh simrat tari-aa. ||4||
yet, even such a sinner is saved from these vices if he remembers God and meditates on His Name even for an instant.
Ila, hata mtenda dhambi kama huyo anakombolewa kutoka maovu haya iwapo atakumbuka Mungu na kutafakari kuhusu Jina lake hata kwa muda mfupi.
ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਚਾਰਿ ਮੁਖਾਗਰ ਬਿਚਰੇ ॥
saasat simrit bayd chaar mukhaagar bichray.
People may recite by heart the Shastras, the Smritis and the four Vedas;
Watu wanaweza kukariri kutoka akilini Shastras, Smritis na Vedas nne;
ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਜੋਗੀਆ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰੇ ॥
tapay tapeesar jogee-aa tirath gavan karay.
he may be ascetics, great, self-disciplined Yogis; and may visit sacred shrines of pilgrimage,
anaweza kuwa Yogi wanaotenda nidhamu kali, mkuu, mwenye nidhamu ya kibinafsi; na anaweza kutembelea ziara takatifu za hija.
ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਗੁਣੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਾਇ ॥
khat karmaa tay dugunai poojaa kartaa naa-ay.
and perform the six ceremonial rituals, over and over again, performing worship services and ritual bathings.
Na kutenda mila sita taratibu, tena na tena, akifanya maabudu na kuoga kwa mila.
ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਗੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤਾ ਸਰਪਰ ਨਰਕੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
rang na lagee paarbarahm taa sarpar narkay jaa-ay. ||5||
if he has not embraced love for the Supreme God, then he shall surely suffer.
Iwapo hajakumbatia upendo wa Mungu Mkuu, basi kwa kweli atateseka.
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਕ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀਆ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
raaj milak sikdaaree-aa ras bhogan bisthaar.
One may possess empires, vast estates, authority over others, and the enjoyment of myriads of pleasures;
Mtu anaweza kumiliki himaya, mashamba makubwa, mamlaka juu ya wengine, na raha ya maelfu ya anasa;
ਬਾਗ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਲੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਫਾਰ ॥
baag suhaavay sohnay chalai hukam afaar.
may have delightful and beautiful gardens, and issue unquestioned commands;
anaweza kuwa na mabustani mazuri ya kupendeza, na anatoa amri zisizoulizwa maswali;
ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧੀ ਚਾਇ ਲਗਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
rang tamaasay baho biDhee chaa-ay lag rahi-aa.
may have enjoyments and entertainments of all kinds, and continue to enjoy exciting pleasures,
anaweza kuwa na raha na viburudisho vya aina yote, na anaendelea kufurahia raha za kusisimua,
ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਸਰਪ ਕੀ ਜੂਨਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੬॥
chit na aa-i-o paarbarahm taa sarap kee joon ga-i-aa. ||6||
and yet, if he does not remember God, he shall be reincarnated as a snake.
Na ila, iwapo hamkumbuki Mungu, atazaliwa upya kama nyoka.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਧਨਾਢਿ ਅਚਾਰਵੰਤੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
bahut Dhanaadh achaarvant sobhaa nirmal reet.
One may possess vast riches, maintain virtuous conduct, have a spotless reputation and observe religious customs;
Mtu anaweza kumiliki mali mengi, anadumisha tabia njema, na sifa yake haina doa na anadumisha desturi za kidini;
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈਆ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
maat pitaa sut bhaa-ee-aa saajan sang pareet.
may have the loving affections of mother, father, children, siblings and friends;
anaweza kuwa na upendo wa mama, baba, watoto, ndugu na rafiki;
ਲਸਕਰ ਤਰਕਸਬੰਦ ਬੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਸਗਲੀ ਕੀਤ ॥
laskar tarkasband band jee-o jee-o saglee keet.
may have armies well-equipped with weapons, and all may be obeying with respect;
anaweza kuwa na majeshi yaliyojihami kwa silaha, na wote wanamtii kwa heshima;
