ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਭੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
an-din sadaa rahai bhai andar bhai maar bharam chukaavani-aa. ||5||
Every day and always living in the revered fear of God, and by eradicating egohe controls his mind from running after vices.
Kila siku na kwa kuishi daima katika uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu, na kwa kuangamiza ubinafsi anadhibiti akili yake kutoka kukimbilia maovu.
ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
bharam chukaa-i-aa sadaa sukh paa-i-aa.
The one who has controlled his mind from running after vices, has always enjoyed lasting peace.
Yule ambaye amedhibiti akili yake kutoka kukimbilia maovu, daima amefurahia amani ya kudumu.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur parsaad param pad paa-i-aa.
By the Guru’s grace, such a person has attained the supreme spiritual status.
Kwa neema ya Guru, mtu kama huyo amepata hadhi kuu ya kiroho.
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਹਜੇ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
antar nirmal nirmal banee har gun sehjay gaavani-aa. ||6||
With the help of sanctifying divine words, his mind becomes pure and he intuitively sings God’s praises.
Kupitia msaada wa maneno takatifu ya utakaso, akili yake imekuwa safi na anaimba sifa za Mungu kwa hisia na silika.
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
simrit saasat bayd vakhaanai.
A pundit who simply delivers lectures on Simritis, Shastras and Vedas,
Mtaalam ambaye anawasilisha tu mihadhara kuhusu Simritis, Shastras na Vedas.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa tat na jaanai.
but deluded by Maya, ha does not understand the true reality (about God).
Lakini akidanganywa na Maya, yeye haelewi uhalisia wa kweli (kuhusu Mungu).
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
bin satgur sayvay sukh na paa-ay dukho dukh kamaavani-aa. ||7||
without serving the true Guru (following the Guru’s teachings), he cannot find peace, but simply gathers more and more pain.
Bila kutumikia Guru wa kweli (kufuata mafundisho ya Guru), hawezi kupata amani, lakini amaendelea tu kukusanya uchungu zaidi.
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
aap karay kis aakhai ko-ee.
God Himself does everything. So, to whom should anybody complain?
Mungu mwenyewe anafanya kila kitu. Basi, mtu anafaa kulalamikia nani?
ਆਖਣਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
aakhan jaa-ee-ai jay bhoolaa ho-ee.
One can be made to understand only if He were misguided.
Mtu anaweza kufanywa aelewe iwapo tu alikuwa amepotoshwa.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੭॥੮॥
naanak aapay karay karaa-ay naamay naam samaavani-aa. ||8||7||8||
O’ Nanak, it is God who does and makes mortal to do everything, and it is only by meditating on Naam that a person merges into God’s Name.
Ee Nanak, ni mungu anayefanya na kufanya binadamu watende kila kitu, na ni kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam pekee ambapo mtu anaungana na Jina la Mungu.

ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
aapay rangay sahj subhaa-ay.
God Himself, intuitively imbues the mortals with His Love.
Mungu mwenyewe, kwa hisia na silika anajaza binadamu na upendo wake.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad har rang charhaa-ay.
He imbues them with His love by attuning them to the Guru’s word.
Anawajazia upendo wake kwa kuwamakinisha kwa neno la Guru.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲੀ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
man tan rataa rasnaa rang chaloolee bhai bhaa-ay rang charhaavani-aa. ||1||
Their mind, body and tongue are fully saturated with the deep red color of God’slove.The revered fear of God keeps them imbued in the love for God
Akili yao, mwili na ulimi umejaa kabisa na rangi nyekundi yenye kina ya upendo wa Mungu. Uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu unawaweka wamevama katika upendo kwa Mungu.
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree nirbha-o man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who enshrine the fearless God in their minds.
Najiweka wakfu kwa wale wanaoweka vizuri Mungu asiye na woga akilini mwao.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kirpaa tay har nirbha-o Dhi-aa-i-aa bikh bha-ojal sabad taraavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By Guru’s grace, they who worship the fearless God, by uniting them with the Guru’s word, God ferries them across the poisonous world-ocean of Vices.
Kwa neema ya Guru, wale wanaoabudu Mungu asiye na woga, kwa kuwaunganisha na neno la Guru, Mungu anawavukisha bahari-dunia ya dhambi yenye sumu.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
manmukh mugaDh karahi chaturaa-ee.
The self-conceited person tries to be clever.
Mtu mwenye wasia binafsi anajaribu kuwa mwerevu.
ਨਾਤਾ ਧੋਤਾ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
naataa Dhotaa thaa-ay na paa-ee.
Such a person in spite of doing so called righteous deeds, like bathing at the pilgrim places, is not approved in God’s court.
Mtu kama huyo licha ya kufanya anayodhani kuwa vitendo vya haki, kama kuoga pahali pa hija, hadhibitishwi katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਜੇਹਾ ਆਇਆ ਤੇਹਾ ਜਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
jayhaa aa-i-aa tayhaa jaasee kar avgan pachhotaavani-aa. ||2||
He came into the world empty handed and departs without any spiritual gains. He regrets over the sins, he committed.
Alikuja duniani humu mikono mitupu na anaondoka bila faida zozote za kiroho. Anajuta dhambi ambazo yeye alitenda.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
manmukh anDhay kichhoo na soojhai.
The blind, self-conceited person cannot think anything about the righteous living.
Mtu kipofu mwenye majivuno binafsi hawezi kufikiria chochote kuhusu kuishi kwa haki.
ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਆਏ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
maran likhaa-ay aa-ay nahee boojhai.
He came into the world with preordained Spiritual deterioration based on Past deeds and he does not understand any better even here.
Alikuja duniani humu na kuzorota kwa roho kulioagiziwa mapema kutokana na vitendo vya awali na haelewi vizuri zaidi hata humu.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
manmukh karam karay nahee paa-ay bin naavai janam gavaavni-aa. ||3||
Self-conceited continue performing all kinds of ritualistic deeds, and doesn’t attain the right way of life. Without meditating on Naam wastes the human birth.
Mwenye majivuno binafsi anaendelea kutenda aina yote ya vitendo vya kimila, na hafikii mtindo unaofaa wa maisha. Bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam anaharibu kuzaliwa kwa ubinadamu.
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
sach karnee sabad hai saar.
The practice of Truth (remembering God) is the essence of the Guru’s word.
Mazoea ya Ukweli (kumkumbuka Mungu) ni kiini cha neno la Guru.
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
poorai gur paa-ee-ai mokh du-aar.
It is through the perfect Guru, one obtains liberation from the vices.
Ni kupitia Guru kamili, ambapo mtu anapata ukombozi kutoka dhambi.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
an-din banee sabad sunaa-ay sach raatay rang rangaavin-aa. ||4||
The Guru always recites the divine word to the devotees and in this way he imbues them with the love for God.
Guru daima anakariri neno takatifu kwa watawa na kwa njia hii anawajazia upendo kwa Mungu.
ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
rasnaa har ras raatee rang laa-ay.
Theone whose tongue is imbued with God’s love,
Yule ambaye ulimi wake umejawa na upendo wa Mungu,
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
man tan mohi-aa sahj subhaa-ay.
intuitively that person’s mind and body are enticed by the love of God.
Kwa hisia na silika akili na mwili wa mtu huyo unautiwa na upendo wa Mungu.
ਸਹਜੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sehjay pareetam pi-aaraa paa-i-aa sehjay sahj milaavani-aa. ||5||
imperceptibly that person is united with the beloved God; and he intuitivelyremain absorbed in the celestial peace.
Kwa njia isiyoonekana, mtu huyo anaunganishwa na Mungu mpendwa; na kwa hisia na silika anabaki amevama katika amani ya mbinguni.
ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jis andar rang so-ee gun gaavai.
That person alone sings God’s praises who has been blessed with His love.
Mtu huyo pekee anaimba sifa za Mungu ambaye amebarikiwa na upendo wa Mungu.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
gur kai sabad sehjay sukh samaavai.
Through the Guru’s word, such a person imperceptibly lives in peace.
Kupitia neno la Guru, mtu kama huyo bila shaka anaishi kwa amani.
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
ha-o balihaaree sadaa tin vitahu gur sayvaa chit laavani-aa. ||6||
I dedicate myself to those who attune their consciousness to the Guru’s teaching and meditate on God’s Name.
Najiweka wakfu kwa wale wanaomakinisha fahamu zao kwa mafundisho ya Guru na kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਸਚਾ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥
sachaa sacho sach pateejai.
The mind of those is appeased only by meditating on God’s Name,
Akili zao zinaridhishwa tu kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
gur parsaadee andar bheejai.
who by the Guru’s Grace are deeply imbued with God’s Love.
Ambaye kwa Neema ya Guru wamejawa kwa kina na Upendo wa Mungu.
ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਤਿ ਮਨਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
bais suthaan har gun gaavahi aapay kar sat manaavni-aa. ||7||
In their heart they keep singing the praises of God. It is in this way God Himself makes them accept this Truth.
Moyoni mwao wanaendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu. Ni kwa njia hii ambayo Mungu mwenyewe anawafanya wakubali Ukweli huu.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
jis no nadar karay so paa-ay.
That one, upon whom God casts His Glance of Grace, understands the importance of meditation on God’s Name,
Yule, ambaye Mungu anampa Mtazamo wake wa Neema, anaelewa umuhimu wa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee ha-umai jaa-ay.
and by the Guru’s Grace,his egotism departs.
Na kwa Neema ya Guru, ubinafsi wake unaondoka.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੮॥੯॥
naanak naam vasai man antar dar sachai sobhaa paavni-aa. ||8||8||9||
O’ Nanak, God’s Name is enshrined in his mind, and he obtains honor in His court.
Ee Nanak, Jina la Mungu linawekwa vizuri akilini mwake, naye anapata heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai vadee vadi-aa-ee.
Great Glory is obtained by following the Guru’s teachings.
Utukufu Mkuu inapatwa kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
har jee achint vasai man aa-ee.
Without even our knowing, the revered God comes to dwell in the mind.
Bila ata kujua kwetu, Mungu anayeheshimika anakuja kuishi akilini.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਫਲਿਓ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਖਾ ਲਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
har jee-o safli-o birakh hai amrit jin peetaa tis tikhaa lahaavani-aa. ||1||
God is like the fruit-bearing tree. The one who has partaken the Ambrosial Nectar of that fruit (Naam), his yearning for Maya is quenched.
Mungu ni kama mti unaozaa matunda. Yule ambaye ameshiriki Nekta ya Ambrosia ya tunda hilo (Naam), tamaa yake ya Maya inazimwa.
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree sach sangat mayl milaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to God, who leads me to the holy Congregation and unites me with Himself.
Najiweka wakfu kwa Mungu, ambaye ananiongoza kwa Ushirika takatifu na kuniunganisha naye Mwenyewe.
ਹਰਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har satsangat aapay maylai gur sabdee har gun gaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God himself unites a person with the holy congregation where, through the Guru’s word, he is able to sing God’s praises.
Mungu mwenyewe anaunganisha mtu na ushirika takatifu ambapo, kupitia neno la Guru, anaweza kuimba sifa za Mungu.
