ਐਸੇ ਘਰ ਹਮ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਸਾਏ ॥
aisay ghar ham bahut basaa-ay.
We have lived through many such lives,
Tumeishi kupitia maisha mengi kama hayo,
ਜਬ ਹਮ ਰਾਮ ਗਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਆਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jab ham raam garabh ho-ay aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
before we were cast into our mother’s womb, O’ God. ||1||Pause||
kabla tutupwe katika tumbo la mama yetu, Ee Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਤਪੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ॥
jogee jatee tapee barahamchaaree.
Sometimes we became yogis, ascetics, penitents and celibates.
Wakati mwingine tulikuwa mayogi, watawa, waliotubu na waseja.
ਕਬਹੂ ਰਾਜਾ ਛਤ੍ਰਪਤਿ ਕਬਹੂ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
kabhoo raajaa chhatarpat kabhoo bhaykhaaree. ||2||
Sometimes we became kings with canopies and sometimes beggars. ||2||
Wakati mwingine tulikuwa wafalme wenye miavuli na wakati mwingine waombaji.
ਸਾਕਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ॥
saakat mareh sant sabh jeeveh.
The faithless cynics die again and again, but the saints live an immortal life,
Wabeuzi wasio na imani wanakufa tena na tena, lakini watakatifu wanaisha maisha yasiyo na kifo,
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਪੀਵਹਿ ॥੩॥
raam rasaa-in rasnaa peeveh. ||3||
because they partake the sublime elixir of God’s Name. ||3||
kwa sababu wanashiriki dawa tukufu ya Jina la Mungu.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਅਬ ਪੂਰਾ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
kaho kabeer parabh kirpaa keejai.haar paray ab pooraa deejai. ||4||13||
Kabeer says, going through so many lives we have grown weary. O’ God, have mercy on us and now grant us union with Yourself. ||4||13||
Kabeer anasema, kwa kupitia maisha mengi sana tumechoka. Ee Mungu, tuhurumie na sasa uturuzuku muungano na Wewe.

O’ Kabeer, I have seen a strange situation,
Ee Kabeer, nimeona hali ya ajabu,
ਦਧਿ ਕੈ ਭੋਲੈ ਬਿਰੋਲੈ ਨੀਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
daDh kai bholai birolai neer. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that a person is churning water mistaking it for yogurt to get butter. ( Similarly, instead of meditating on God people are running after worldly wealth to attain peace and tranquility). ||1||Pause||.
Kwamba mtu anasukasuka maji akiyadhania kuwa mtindi ili kupata siagi. (Vivyo hivyo, badala ya kutafakari kuhusu Mungu watu wanafukuza utajiri wa kidunia ili kufikia amani na utulivu). ||1||Sitisha||
ਹਰੀ ਅੰਗੂਰੀ ਗਦਹਾ ਚਰੈ ॥
haree angooree gadhaa charai.
A fool is indulging in sinful acts like a donkey grazes on green grape vines.
Mpumbavu anajihusisha katika vitendo vya dhambi kama punda anavyokula mizabibu ya kijani kibichi.
ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਹਾਸੈ ਹੀਗੈ ਮਰੈ ॥੧॥
nit uth haasai heegai marai. ||1||
Each day he enjoys sinful pleasures, he laughs like a donkey brays and finally dies wasting his entire life. ||1||
Kila siku yeye anafurahia raha za dhambi, anacheka kama punda anavyolia na mwishowe anakufa akiwa ameharibu maisha yake yote.
ਮਾਤਾ ਭੈਸਾ ਅੰਮੁਹਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
maataa bhaisaa ammuhaa jaa-ay.
Like an intoxicated bull, his mind runs around wild,
Kama fahali aliyelevya, akilini yake inazurura bila udhibiti,
ਕੁਦਿ ਕੁਦਿ ਚਰੈ ਰਸਾਤਲਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
kud kud charai rasaatal paa-ay. ||2||
romps arrogantly, eats viciously and falls into extreme miseries. ||2||
anacheza kwa kiburi, anakula vibaya sana na kuanguka katika taabu zilizokithiri.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਈ ਖੇਡ ॥
kaho kabeer pargat bha-ee khayd.
Kabir says, I have understood this strange play. The reason behind all this foolish behavior by human beings is,
Kabir anasema, nimeelewa mchezo huu wa ajabu. Sababu ya tabia hii yote pumbavu ya binadamu ni,
ਲੇਲੇ ਕਉ ਚੂਘੈ ਨਿਤ ਭੇਡ ॥੩॥
laylay ka-o chooghai nit bhayd.||3||
that instead of the mind following the intellect,it is other way around, as if the sheep is sucking the lamb. ||3||
Kwamba badala ya akili kufuata uwekevu, ni mbadala wake, kana kwamba kondoo ananyonya mwanakondoo.
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਮਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੀ ਆਈ ॥
raam ramat mat pargatee aa-ee.
By meditating on God, my intellect has become awakened and has stopped following the mind.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu, uwekevu wangu umeamshwa na umeacha kufuata akili.
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੪॥
kaho kabeer gur sojhee paa-ee. ||4||1||14||
Kabeer says, the Guru has blessed me with this understanding. ||4||1||14||

ji-o jal chhod baahar bha-i-o meenaa.poorab janam ha-o tap kaa heenaa. ||1||
O’ God, I am told that since I did not practice penance and intense meditation in my previous life, I will have to suffer like a fish out of water.
Ee Mungu, ninaambiwa kwamba kwani sikufanya toba na utafakari mkali katika maisha yangu ya awali, nitalazimika kuteseka kama samaki nje ya maji.
ਅਬ ਕਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
ab kaho raam kavan gat moree.
O’ God, now tell me what will be my fate?
Ee Mungu, sasa niambie ni ipi itakuwa hatima yangu?
ਤਜੀ ਲੇ ਬਨਾਰਸ ਮਤਿ ਭਈ ਥੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tajee lay banaaras mat bha-ee thoree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Is it really true that I have lost my mind because I have left Banaras? |1||Pause|
Je, ni kweli kwamba nimepoteza akili yangu kwamba sababu nimeacha Banaras? ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਗਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਮਗਹਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
sagal janam siv puree gavaa-i-aa.martee baar maghar uth aa-i-aa. ||2||
O’ God, people say to me that you spent all your life in Kashi, the city of (god) Shiva, but at the time of death you moved to the unholy city of Maghar, thus you have wasted all your life.
Ee Mungu, watu wananiambia kwamba umeishi maisha yako katika Kashi, mji wa (mungu) Shiva, lakini wakati wa kifo ulihamia kwa mji usio takatifu wa Maghar, hivyo umeharibu maisha yako yote.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਰਸ ਤਪੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਾਸੀ ॥
bahut baras tap kee-aa kaasee.
O’ God, people say that You did penance at Kashi for so many years,
Ee Mungu, watu wanasema kwamba ulifanya toba katika Kashi kwa miaka mingi sana.
ਮਰਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਗਹਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਸੀ ॥੩॥
maran bha-i-aa maghar kee baasee. ||3||
but, at the time of death you have come to reside in Maghar. ||3||
lakini, wakati wa kifo umekuja kuishi katika Maghar.
ਕਾਸੀ ਮਗਹਰ ਸਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
kaasee maghar sam beechaaree.
O’ God, people say to me, do you deem Kashi and Maghar as the same?
Ee Mungu, watu wananiambia, unadhani Kashi na Maghar kuwa sawa?
ਓਛੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
ochhee bhagat kaisay utras paaree. ||4||
with such an inept devotion how would you swim across the worldly ocean of vices? ||4||
kwa ujitoaji hafifu kama huo utawezaje kuogelea ukivuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi?
ਕਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਜ ਸਿਵ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
kaho gur gaj siv sabh ko jaanai.
Kabeer says, everyone knows only the Ganesh, the angel of damnation and Shiva, the angel of salvation.
Kabeer anasema, kila mtu anajua Ganesh pekee, malaika wa maafa na Shiva, malaika wa wokovu.
ਮੁਆ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਰਮਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮੈ ॥੫॥੧੫॥
mu-aa kabeer ramat saree raamai.||5||15||
But Kabir has killed his ego and freed himself of worldly entangelments by meditating on God. ||5||15||
Lakini Kabir ameua ubinafsi wake na kujiweka huru kutoka misongamano ya kidunia kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu.

ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨ ਮਰਦਨ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
cho-aa chandan mardan angaa.
The body which we anoint with scents and fragrances,
Mwili tunaopaka mafuta yenye harufu nzuri na manukato,
ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਕਾਠ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
so tan jalai kaath kai sangaa. ||1||
is burnt with firewood in the end. ||1||
unachomwa na kinu mwishowe.
ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥
is tan Dhan kee kavan badaa-ee.
Why should anyone take pride in this body or wealth?
Kwa nini yeyote apate fahari kwa mwili au utajiri huu?
ਧਰਨਿ ਪਰੈ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Dharan parai urvaar na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The body ends up lying on the ground and the wealth do not go along with to the world beyond. ||1||Pause||
Mwishowe mwili huu unalazwa chini na utajiri hauambatani nawe kwa dunia ya ahera. ||1||Sitisha||
ਰਾਤਿ ਜਿ ਸੋਵਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਾਮ ॥
raat je soveh din karahi kaam.
Those who spend entire night sleeping and day involved in worldly deeds;
Wale wanaoshinda wamelala usiku mzima na mchana wanajishughulisha katika vitendo vya kidunia.
ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਲੇਹਿ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੨॥
ik khin layhi na har ko naam. ||2||
but do not meditate on God’s Name even for a moment. ||2||
lakini hawatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu hata kwa muda mfupi.
ਹਾਥਿ ਤ ਡੋਰ ਮੁਖਿ ਖਾਇਓ ਤੰਬੋਰ ॥
haath ta dor mukh khaa-i-o tambor.
They are busy enjoying the worldly pleasures like hunting and chewing betel leaves.
Wanashughulika katika kufurahia raha za kidunia kama kuwinda na kutafuna majani ya tambuu.
ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਕਸਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਚੋਰ ॥੩॥
martee baar kas baaDhi-o chor. ||3||
At the time of death they are tightly bound like thieves. ||3||
Wakati wa kifo wanafungwa kwa nguvu kama wezi.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
gurmat ras ras har gun gaavai.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and sings praises of God with love,
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kuimba sifa za Mungu kwa upendo,
ਰਾਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
raamai raam ramat sukh paavai. ||4||
attains peace by meditating on God. ||4||
anafikia amani kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥
kirpaa kar kai naam darirhaa-ee.
Within whose heart God mercifully enshrines His Name,
Yule ambaye moyoni mwake Mungu anathamini Jina Lake kwa huruma.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਸੁ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਬਸਾਈ ॥੫॥
har har baas suganDh basaa-ee. ||5||
God infuses that person with the fragrance of Naam. ||5||
Mungu anaweka manukato ya Naam ndani mwa mtu huyo.
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
kahat kabeer chayt ray anDhaa.
Kabeer says, remember Him, you ignorant fool!
Kabeer anasema, mkumbuke Yeye, wewe mpumbavu mjinga!
ਸਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੬॥੧੬॥
sat raam jhoothaa sabh DhanDhaa. ||6||16||
God alone is eternal and the entire worldly affair is perishable.||6||16||
Mungu peke yake ni wa milele na shughuli nzima ya kidunia inaangamia.

jam tay ulat bha-ay hai raam.
Since the time I have realized God, people who seemed like demons of death have now become the embodiments of God to me.
Tangu wakati nimegundua Mungu, watu walioonekana kama mapepo wa kifo sasa wamekuwa udhihirisho wa kimwili wa Mungu kwangu.
ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖ ਕੀਓ ਬਿਸਰਾਮ ॥
dukh binsay sukh kee-o bisraam.
All my sorrows have vanished and I dwell in peace and comfort.
Huzuni zangu zote zimepotea na ninaishi kwa amani na starehe.
ਬੈਰੀ ਉਲਟਿ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
bairee ulat bha-ay hai meetaa.
My sensory organs which were my enemies before and were making me commit sins, have turned into friends and are making me do virtuous deeds.
Viungo vyangu vya hisi ambavyo vilikuwa maadui wangu hapo awali na vilikuwa vinanifanya nitende dhambi, vimegeuka kuwa marafiki na vinanifanya nitende vitendo vyema.
ਸਾਕਤ ਉਲਟਿ ਸੁਜਨ ਭਏ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥
saakat ulat sujan bha-ay cheetaa. ||1||
My sensory organs which were cynics have become the Guru’s followers. ||1||
Viungo vyangu vya hisi ambao walikuwa wabeuzi wamekuwa wafuasi wa Guru.
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
ab mohi sarab kusal kar maani-aa.
Now I am feeling happy, blissful and all is well in every respect.
Sasa ninahisi furaha, raha tele na kila kitu kipo sawa katika kila njia.
ਸਾਂਤਿ ਭਈ ਜਬ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saaNt bha-ee jab gobid jaani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Since the time I have realized God, peace has prevailed in my mind. ||1||Pause||
Tangu wakati nimegundua Mungu, amani imedumu akilini mwangu. ||1||Sitisha||
