ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
naanak gurmukh ubray saachaa naam samaal. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s followers are saved from the spiritual death, by meditating on God’s Name with loving devotion.
Ee Nanak, wafuasi wa Guru wanakombolewa kutoka kifo cha kiroho, kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa kujitolea kwa upendo.

By the First Guru:
Na Guru wa kwanza:
ਗਲੀ ਅਸੀ ਚੰਗੀਆ ਆਚਾਰੀ ਬੁਰੀਆਹ ॥
galeeN asee changee-aa aachaaree buree-aah.
We pose ourselves as virtuous in our talks, but we are evil in our conduct.
Tunachukua mkao kama wenye fadhila katika mazungumzo yetu, lakini sisi ni waovu katika tabia zetu.
ਮਨਹੁ ਕੁਸੁਧਾ ਕਾਲੀਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਚਿਟਵੀਆਹ ॥
manhu kusuDhaa kaalee-aa baahar chitvee-aah.
Our minds are impure and evil, but outwardly, we appear holy and saintly.
Akili zetu ni najisi na mbaya, lakini kwa nje, tunaonekana watakatifu na wacha Mungu.
ਰੀਸਾ ਕਰਿਹ ਤਿਨਾੜੀਆ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰੁ ਖੜੀਆਹ ॥
reesaa karih tinaarhee-aa jo sayveh dar kharhee-aah.
We imitate those who are always ready to accept His command.
Tunaiga wale ambao daima wapo tayari kukubali amri ya Mungu.
ਨਾਲਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਰਤੀਆ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਲੀਆਹ ॥
naal khasmai ratee-aa maaneh sukh ralee-aah.
They, who are attuned to the Love of their Divine Master, experience the pleasure of His Love.
Wale, ambao wamemakinikia upendo wa Bwana wao Mtakatifu, wanahisi raha ya upendo wake.
ਹੋਦੈ ਤਾਣਿ ਨਿਤਾਣੀਆ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਮਾਨਣੀਆਹ ॥
hodai taan nitaanee-aa raheh nimaannee-aah.
In Spite of having power, they behave as powerless and humble.
Licha ya kuwa na mamlaka, wanatenda kana kwamba hawana mamlaka yoyote na kwa unyenyekevu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਹ ॥੨॥
naanak janam sakaarthaa jay tin kai sang milaah. ||2||
O’ Nanak, our lives can become worthwhile only if we associate with such Guru’s followers.
Tunakuwa wenye thamani iwapo tu tutajihusisha na wafuasi wa Guru kama hao.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਜਲੁ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਲੁ ॥
tooN aapay jal meenaa hai aapay aapay hee aap jaal.
O’ God, this world is like a deep ocean in which You Yourself are water, You Yourself are the fish (humans) and You Yourself are the net (worldly attraction).
Ee Mungu, dunia hii ni kama bahari yenye kina ambayo Wewe mwenyewe ni maji, Wewe mwenyewe ni samaki (binadamu) na Wewe mwenyewe ni wavu (kivutio cha kidunia).
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲੁ ਵਤਾਇਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੇਬਾਲੁ ॥
tooN aapay jaal vataa-idaa aapay vich saybaal.
You Yourself spread the net of worldly attractions, and You Yourself are the bait (worldly attractions) in which the fish (humans) remain entangled.
Wewe mwenyewe unaeneza wavu wa vivutio vya kidunia, na Wewe mwenyewe ndiwe chambo (vivutio vya kidunia) ambacho samaki (binadamu) wanabaki wamenaswa.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਮਲੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਹੈ ਸੈ ਹਥਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਗੁਲਾਲੁ ॥
tooN aapay kamal alipat hai sai hathaa vich gulaal.
You Yourself are unaffected by the dirt of Maya (worldly desires), just as the beautiful lotus remains unaffected by murky water in which it grows.
Wewe mwenyewe hauathiriwi na uchafu wa Maya (tamaa za kidunia), kama vile ua nzuri la lotus kinabaki halijaathiriwa na maji machafu ambayo linamea ndani yake.
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਘੜੀ ਕਰਿ ਖਿਆਲੁ ॥
tooN aapay mukat karaa-idaa ik nimakh gharhee kar khi-aal.
You Yourself liberate those from the net of worldly attractions who think of You from their heart with love and devotion for even an instant.
Wewe mwenyewe unakomboa kutoka wavu wa vivutioa vya kidunia wale wanaokufikiria kutoka mioyo yao kwa upendo na kujitolea hata kwa muda mfupi.
ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੭॥
har tuDhhu baahar kichh nahee gur sabdee vaykh nihaal. ||7||
O’ God, there is nothing beyond You. But it is only through the word of the Guru that one is able to feel blissful by realizing that you are pervading everywhere.
Ee Mungu, hakuna kitu ambacho kinakuzidi. Lakini ni kwa kupitia neno la Guru tu ambapo mtu anaweza kuhisi mwenye furaha tele kwa kugundua ya kwamba Wewe unaenea kote.
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Shalok,by the Third Guru:
Shalok, na Guru wa tatu:
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
hukam na jaanai bahutaa rovai.
The one who, does not comprehend the command God, cries out bitterly.
Yule ambaye, haelewi amri ya Mungu, analia kwa uchungu.
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧੋਖਾ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵੈ ॥
andar Dhokhaa need na sovai.
She (the soul) is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.
Yeye (roho) anajawa na udanganyifu, na hawezi kulala kwa amani.
ਜੇ ਧਨ ਖਸਮੈ ਚਲੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
jay Dhan khasmai chalai rajaa-ee. dar ghar sobhaa mahal bulaa-ee.
.But if the soul-bride leads her life according to the will of her Divine-Master God, she obtains honor both in this world and God’s court.
Lakini iwapo roho kama bi harusi aishi maisha yake kulingana na wasia wa Bwana wake Mtakatifu Mungu, anapata heshima duniani humu na katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੀ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
naanak karmee ih mat paa-ee.
O’ Nanak, by His Mercy, this understanding is obtained.
Ee Nanak, kwa huruma yake, uelewa huu unapatikana.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
gur parsaadee sach samaa-ee. ||1||
By Guru’s Grace, she is merged into the True One.
Kwa neema ya Guru, yeye anaunganishwa ndani mwa yule Mmoja wa Kweli.

Na Guru wa tatu:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਭੁਲੁ ॥
manmukh naam vihooni-aa rang kasumbhaa daykh na bhul.
O self-willed manmukh, devoid of the Naam, do not be misled upon beholding the color of the safflower (transient worldly attractions),
Ee manmukh mwenye wasia binafsi, usiye na Naam, usipotoshwe baada ya kutazama rangi ya ua la mafuta (vivutia vya kidunia visivyodumu),
ਇਸ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜਿਆ ਛੋਛਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਲੁ ॥
is kaa rang din thorhi-aa chhochhaa is daa mul.
these worldly attractions are short-lived and worthless like the color of the safflower.
Vivutio hivi vya kidunia havidumu na ni bure kama rangi ya ua la mafuta.
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
doojai lagay pach mu-ay moorakh anDh gavaar.
Engrossed in duality, the foolish, spiritually blind and ignorant people waste away their life.
Wakijihusisha katika uwili, wapumbavu, vipofu wa kiroho na watu wajinga wanaharibu maisha yao bure.
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟ ਸੇ ਪਇ ਪਚਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
bistaa andar keet say pa-i pacheh vaaro vaar.
Like worms, they live in filth of vices, and in itthey die over and over.
Kama minyoo, wanaishi katika uchafu wa dhambi, na katika uchafu huo wanakufa tena na tena.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
naanak naam ratay say rangulay gur kai sahj subhaa-ay.
O’ Nanak, they who are imbued with Naam are happy and they take on the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru.
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wamejawa na Naam wana furaha na wanachukua amani na utulivu angavu wa Guru.
ਭਗਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
bhagtee rang na utrai sehjay rahai samaa-ay. ||2||
Their love and devotion to God doesn’t weaken, and they intuitively remain merged in Him.
Upendo na kujitolea kwao kwa Mungu hakudhoofiki, na kiasili wanabaki wameungana naye.
ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:
ਸਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਸਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿਆ ॥
sisat upaa-ee sabh tuDh aapay rijak sambaahi-aa.
O’ God, You created the entire universe, and You Yourself bring sustenance to it.
Ee Mungu, uliumba ulimwengu mzima, na Wewe mwenyewe unatoa riziki kwake.
ਇਕਿ ਵਲੁ ਛਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਖਾਵਦੇ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਤਿਨੀ ਢਾਹਿਆ ॥
ik val chhal kar kai khaavday muhhu koorh kusat tinee dhaahi-aa.
Some sustain themselves through deceit and deception and utter all kinds of lies.
Wengine wanajiendeleza kupitia udanganyifu na ulaghai na kutamka aina zote za uongo.
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਓਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਓਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
tuDh aapay bhaavai so karahi tuDh otai kamm o-ay laa-i-aa.
(O’ God) they only do what You have written in their fate. It is You who have assigned them to such tasks.
(Ee Mungu) wanafanya tu ulichoandika katika hatima yao. Ni Wewe umewateua kufanya kazi kama hizo.
ਇਕਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਓਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਅਤੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਦੇਵਾਇਆ ॥
iknaa sach bujhaa-i-on tinaa atut bhandaar dayvaa-i-aa.
To some You have revealed the Truth (about righteous living). On them You have conferred the inexhaustible treasure of contentment.
Kwa wengine umedhihirisha ukweli (kuhusu kuishi kwa haki). Kwao umewatunukia hazina isiyoisha ya kutoshelezwa.
ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਖਾਹਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਅਚੇਤਾ ਹਥ ਤਡਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
har chayt khaahi tinaa safal hai achaytaa hath tadaa-i-aa. ||8||
Prosperous is the life of Those who consume Your gifts while remembering You. But those who forsake God, are always discontent and keep begging.
Kumefanikiwa maisha ya wale wanaotumia tuzo zako wakati wanapokukumbuka. Lakini wale wanaoacha Mungu, daima hawaridhiki na wanaendelea kuomba omba.

Shalok, na Guru wa tatu:
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥
parh parh pandit bayd vakaaneh maa-i-aa moh su-aa-ay.
The Pandits, constantly read and recite the Vedas, for the love of Maya.
Walimu wa busara, mara kwa mara wanasoma na kukariri Vedas, kutokana na upendo wa Maya.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay har naam visaari-aa man moorakh milai sajaa-ay.
The one who forsakes God for the love of duality. Such self-willed fool receives punishment.
Yule anayemwacha Mungu kwa upendo wa uwili. Mpumbavu mwenye wasia binafsi kama huyo anapokea adhabu.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਜੋ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ॥
jin jee-o pind ditaa tis kabahooN na chaytai jo dayNdaa rijak sambaahi.
He never think of the One who gave him the body and soul and who provides sustenance to all.
Kamwe hafikirii kuhusu yule Mmoja aliyempa mwili na roho na anayetoa riziki kwa wote.
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਗਲਹੁ ਨ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jam kaa faahaa galhu na katee-ai fir fir aavai jaa-ay.
He is always fearful of death and remains in the cycles of birth and death.
Daima ana woga wa kifo na anabaki katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
manmukh kichhoo na soojhai anDhulay poorab likhi-aa kamaa-ay.
The spiritually blind, self-willed does not understand anything He does what he is preordained to do.
Kipofu wa kiroho, mwenye wasia binafsi haelewi chochote anafanya alichoagiziwa mapema kufanya.
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
poorai bhaag satgur milai sukh-daata naam vasai man aa-ay.
Through perfect destiny, he meets the True Guru, the Giver of peace, and the Naam comes to dwell in his mind.
Kupitia hatima kamili, anakutana na Guru wa kweli, Mtoa wa amani, na Naam inakuja kuishi akilini mwake.
ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
sukh maaneh sukh painnaa sukhay sukh vihaa-ay.
Such a person enjoys true bliss and spends entire life in happiness.
Mtu kama huyo anafurahia furaha tele halisi na anaishi maisha yake yote katika furaha.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak so naa-o manhu na visaaree-ai jit dar sachai sobhaa paa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, do not forget the Naam which brings honor in God’s court.
Ee Nanak, usisahau Naam inayoleta heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.
