ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One Eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa Milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa kweli:

ਜਿਨ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪਟੀਆ ਮਾਂਗੀ ਪਾਇ ਸੰਧੂਰੁ ॥
jin sir sohan patee-aa maaNgee paa-ay sanDhoor.
The heads of those girls which used to be adorned with tresses and partings filled with vermillion,
Vichwa vya wasichana hao ambavyo vilikuwa vimepambwa na shungi na migawo iliyo nyekundu,

ਸੇ ਸਿਰ ਕਾਤੀ ਮੁੰਨੀਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਗਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵੈ ਧੂੜਿ ॥
say sir kaatee munnee-aniH gal vich aavai Dhoorh.
those heads are being sheared with scissors and their throats are being choked with dust.
Vichwa hivyo vimenyolewa na mikasi na koo zao zinakabwa kwa mchanga.

ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਦੀਆ ਹੁਣਿ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
mehlaa andar hodee-aa hun bahan na milniH hadoor. ||1||
They used to live in palatial mansions but now they are not even allowed near those palaces. ||1||
Walikuwa wanaishi katika majumba ya kifalme lakini sasa hawaruhusiwi hata kukaribia makasri hayo.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਬਾਬਾ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥
aadays baabaa aadays.
O’ primal God, I salute and bow to You.
Ee Mungu wa kiasili, ninakuenzi na kusujudu mbele yako.

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਵੇਸ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aad purakh tayraa ant na paa-i-aa kar kar daykheh vays. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’God, we are unable to comprehend Your worldly plays; You continuously create and behold these plays in many different ways. ||1||Pause||
Ee Mungu, sisi hatuwezi kuelewa michezo yako ya kidunia; kila wakati Wewe unaumba na kutazama michezo hii kwa njia nyingi tofauti. ||1|Sitisha||

ਜਦਹੁ ਸੀਆ ਵੀਆਹੀਆ ਲਾੜੇ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jadahu see-aa vee-aahee-aa laarhay sohan paas.
When these ladies were married, their grooms looked handsome beside them.
Wakati mabibi hao waliolewa, mume wao walikaa watanashati kando yao.

ਹੀਡੋਲੀ ਚੜਿ ਆਈਆ ਦੰਦ ਖੰਡ ਕੀਤੇ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
heedolee charh aa-ee-aa dand khand keetay raas.
They came riding on palanquins and their arms were adorned with ivory bangles.
Walikuja wakibebwa kwa machela ya mgongo na mikono yao ilipambwa kwa bangili za pembe za ndovu.

ਉਪਰਹੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਾਰੀਐ ਝਲੇ ਝਿਮਕਨਿ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
uprahu paanee vaaree-ai jhalay jhimkan paas. ||2||
Pot of ceremonial water was circled over their heads (a ritual to greet the bride) and glass studded fans were glittering in their hands. ||2||
Chungu cha maji ya kisherehe kilizungushwa juu ya vichwa vyao (mila ya kusalimu mke) na vipepeo vyenye glasi vilimetameta mikononi mwao.

ਇਕੁ ਲਖੁ ਲਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਬਹਿਠੀਆ ਲਖੁ ਲਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਖੜੀਆ ॥
ik lakh lehniH behthee-aa lakh lehniH kharhee-aa.
Hundreds of thousands coins were given to them as welcome gifts.
Mamia ya maelfu ya sarafu yalitolewa kwao kama zawadi za kuwakaribisha.

ਗਰੀ ਛੁਹਾਰੇ ਖਾਂਦੀਆ ਮਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸੇਜੜੀਆ ॥
garee chhuhaaray khaaNdee-aa maanniH sayjrhee-aa.
They munched on dried coconuts and dates and enjoyed bridal beds.
Walikula nazi zilizokaushwa na tende na kufurahia vitanda vya bi harusi

ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ ਗਲਿ ਸਿਲਕਾ ਪਾਈਆ ਤੁਟਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਮੋਤਸਰੀਆ ॥੩॥
tinH gal silkaa paa-ee-aa tutniH motsaree-aa. ||3||
But now their pearl necklaces are being snatched by the evil soldiers (of Babar, the Mugal invader) and instead ropes have been put around their necks. ||3||
Lakini sasa mikufu yao ya lulu inanyang’anywa na wanajeshi waovu (wa Babar, mvamizi kutoka Mugal) na badala yake kamba imewekwa shingoni pao.

ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਵੈਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਰਖੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
Dhan joban du-ay vairee ho-ay jinHee rakhay rang laa-ay.
Their worldly wealth and youthful beauty, which gave them so much pleasure, have now become their enemies.
Utajiri wao wa kidunia na urembo wa ujana, uliowapa raha mwingi sana, sasa umekuwa maadui wao.

ਦੂਤਾ ਨੋ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
dootaa no furmaa-i-aa lai chalay pat gavaa-ay.
The invader had ordered his evil soldiers to dishonor and drive them away.
Mvamizi ameamuru wanajeshi wake waovu kuwafedhehesha na kuwafukuza.

ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੪॥
jay tis bhaavai day vadi-aa-ee jay bhaavai day-ay sajaa-ay. ||4||
If it pleases God, He grants glory to His beings; He punishes them if He feels like doing so. ||4||
Iwapo inapendeza Mungu, Yeye anaruzuku utukufu kwa viumbe vyake; pia anawaadhibu iwapo Yeye anahisi kufanya hivyo.

ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜੇ ਚੇਤੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਇਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
ago day jay chaytee-ai taaN kaa-it milai sajaa-ay.
If we remember and perform our duties, then why would we be punished?
Iwapo tukumbuke na kutende majukumu yetu, basi kwa nini tuadhibiwe?

ਸਾਹਾਂ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਵਾਈਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਤਮਾਸੈ ਚਾਇ ॥
saahaaN surat gavaa-ee-aa rang tamaasai chaa-ay.
Engrossed in sensual pleasures and revelries, the Pathan kings had lost their minds and had forgotten their duties to defend their kingdoms.
Kwa kuvama katika raha za hisi na viburudisho, wafalme wa Pashtuni walipatwa na kichaa na walikuwa wamesahau majukumu yao ya kulinda ufalme wao.

ਬਾਬਰਵਾਣੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਈ ਕੁਇਰੁ ਨ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਇ ॥੫॥
baabarvaanee fir ga-ee ku-ir na rotee khaa-ay. ||5||
Since Babar’s rule has been proclaimed, even a prince has no food to eat. ||5||
Kwani utawala wa Babar ulikuwa umetangazwa, hata mwana-mfalme hana chakula.

ਇਕਨਾ ਵਖਤ ਖੁਆਈਅਹਿ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਪੂਜਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
iknaa vakhat khu-aa-ee-ah iknHaa poojaa jaa-ay.
Some (the Muslims) have lost their five times of daily prayer and some (the Hindus) have lost their worship as well.
Wengine (Waislamu) wamepoteza muda zao tano za kuomba kila siku na wengine (Wahindu) wamepoteza ibada yao pia.

ਚਉਕੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਹਿੰਦਵਾਣੀਆ ਕਿਉ ਟਿਕੇ ਕਢਹਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
cha-ukay vin hindvaanee-aa ki-o tikay kadheh naa-ay.
Now the Hindu women can neither bathe and apply the ceremonial marks to their foreheads nor they have their sacred kitchens
Sasa wanawake wa Kihindu hawawezi kuoga na kupaka ishara ya kimila kwenye paji lao wala hawana majikoni yao takatifu

ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਹੁਣਿ ਕਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਖੁਦਾਇ ॥੬॥
raam na kabhoo chayti-o hun kahan na milai khudaa-ay. ||6||
They never remembered god Raam and now to please the barbaric soldiers they cannot even chant Khudaa||6||
Kamwe hawakukumbuka mungu Raam na sasa ili kupendeza wanajeshi katili hawawezi hata kuimba Khudaa

ਇਕਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਇਕਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਸੁਖ ॥
ik ghar aavahi aapnai ik mil mil puchheh sukh.
Some have returned to their homes, and meeting their relatives, they ask about their welfare.
Wengine wamerudi nyumbani kwao, na wakikutana na jamaa zao, wanauliza kuhusu maslahi yao.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਏਹੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਬਹਿ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ॥
iknHaa ayho likhi-aa bahi bahi rove
For some, it is preordained to sit together and discuss their sufferings.
Kwa wengine, imeagiziwa mapema waketi pamoja na kuzungumzia mateso yao.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਨੁਖ ॥੭॥੧੧॥
jo tis bhaavai so thee-ai naanak ki-aa maanukh. ||7||11||
O’ Nanak, whatever pleases God, comes to pass; what can the helpless human beings do? ||7||11||
Ee Nanak, chochote kinachompendeza Mungu, kinatendeka; binadamu wanyonge wanaweza kufanya nini?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਖੇਲ ਤਬੇਲਾ ਘੋੜੇ ਕਹਾ ਭੇਰੀ ਸਹਨਾਈ ॥
kahaa so khayl tabaylaa ghorhay kahaa bhayree sehnaa-ee.
Where are those sports, stables, horses, drums and the flutes?
Michezo, zizi, farasi, ngomo na filimbi ziko wapi?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਤੇਗਬੰਦ ਗਾਡੇਰੜਿ ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਲਾਲ ਕਵਾਈ ॥
kahaa so taygband gaadayrarh kahaa so laal kavaa-ee.
Where are the sword-belts and chariots? Where are those scarlet uniforms?
Mkanda wa upanga na magari ya farasi yako wapi? Sare nyekundi ziko wapi?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਆਰਸੀਆ ਮੁਹ ਬੰਕੇ ਐਥੈ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
kahaa so aarsee-aa muh bankay aithai diseh naahee. ||1||
Where are the mirrors and the beautiful faces? none of those are visible here. |1|
Vioo na nyuso nzuri ziko wapi? Hakuna kati ya hayo inayoonekana hapa.

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਗੋਸਾਈ ॥
ih jag tayraa too gosaa-ee.
O’ God, this world belongs to You and You are its Master.
Ee Mungu, dunia hii ni Yako na Wewe ndiwe Bwana wake.

ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਜਰੁ ਵੰਡਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਭਾਂਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ayk gharhee meh thaap uthaapay jar vand dayvai bhaaN-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In an instant, You create and destroy the creation; You distribute the worldly wealth as it pleases You. ||1||Pause||
Papo hapo, Wewe unaumba na kuangamiza uumbaji; Wewe unagawanya utajiri wa kidunia inavyokupendeza Wewe. ||1|Sitisha||

ਕਹਾਂ ਸੁ ਘਰ ਦਰ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਹਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਬੰਕ ਸਰਾਈ ॥
kahaaN so ghar dar mandap mehlaa kahaa so bank saraa-ee.
Where are those houses, gates, mansions, palaces, and magnificent inns?
Nyumba, malango, majumba, makasri, na hoteli za kifahari ziko wapi?

ਕਹਾਂ ਸੁ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਿ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
kahaaN so sayj sukhaalee kaaman jis vaykh need na paa-ee.
Where is that pleasing woman and her cozy bed whose beauty would not allow one to sleep?
Wapi mwanamke wa kupendeza na kitanda chake chenye starehe ambaye urembo wake hauwezi ruhusu mtu kulala?

ਕਹਾ ਸੁ ਪਾਨ ਤੰਬੋਲੀ ਹਰਮਾ ਹੋਈਆ ਛਾਈ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
kahaa so paan tambolee harmaa ho-ee-aa chhaa-ee maa-ee. ||2||
Where are those betel leaves and their sellers? Where are those ladies living in harems? They all have vanished like a shadow. ||2||
Wapi majani ya tambuu na wauzaji wake? Wapo siti hao wanaoishi katika masuria? Wote wamepotea kama kivuli.

ਇਸੁ ਜਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਘਣੀ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਇਨਿ ਜਰ ਘਣੀ ਖੁਆਈ ॥
is jar kaaran ghanee vigutee in jar ghanee khu-aa-ee.
For the sake of this worldly wealth, so many are ruined and this wealth has disgraced much of the world.
Kwa ajili ya utajiri wa kidunia, wengi wameharibiwa na utajiri huu umefedhehesha wengi duniani.

ਪਾਪਾ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
paapaa baajhahu hovai naahee mu-i-aa saath na jaa-ee.
This wealth cannot be amassed without committing sins and it does not go along with the dead.
Utajiri huu hauwezi kukusanywa bila kutenda dhambi na haiambatani na wafu.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਖੁਸਿ ਲਏ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
jis no aap khu-aa-ay kartaa khus la-ay changi-aa-ee. ||3||
Whom God Himself wants to go astray, He first deprives that person of his virtues. ||3||
Yule ambaye Mungu Mwenyewe anataka apotoke, kwanza Yeye anamnyang’anya fadhila zake.

ਕੋਟੀ ਹੂ ਪੀਰ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਜਾ ਮੀਰੁ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
kotee hoo peer varaj rahaa-ay jaa meer suni-aa Dhaa-i-aa.
When Pathan rulers heard about the emperor Babar’s invasion, many muslim saints were forbidden to go anywhere to ward off the invader with prayers.
Wakati watawala wa Pashtuni walisikia kuhusu uvamizi wa milki Babar, watakatifu wengi wa kiislamu walikatazwa kuenda mahali kuepusha mvamizi na maombi.
