ਸਾਚਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਿ ॥
saach sahj sobhaa ghanee har gun naam aDhaar.
By making God’s Name as their main support, they will be able to obtain truth, tranquility and great glory in God’s court.
Kwa kufanya Jina la Mungu liwe nguco yao kuu, wataweza kupata ukweli, utulivu na utukufu mkuu katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o rakh tooN mai tujh bin kavan bhataar. ||3||
O’ God, save us (from the worldly temptations) in whatever way it pleases You, without You, we have no other Master.
Ee Mungu, tukomboe (kutoka majaribio ya kidunia) kwa njia yoyote inayokupendeza, bila Wewe, hatuna Bwana mwengine.
ਅਖਰ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭੁਲੀਐ ਭੇਖੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
akhar parh parh bhulee-ai bhaykhee bahut abhimaan.
By continually reading religious books, people are lost in false beliefs. They take great pride in wearing diverse religious garbs.
Kwa kusoma vitabu vya kidini mara kwa mara, watu wanapotea katika imani za uongo. Wanapata fahari kubwa kwa kuvaa mavazi tofauti ya kidini.
ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
tirath naataa ki-aa karay man meh mail gumaan.
Yet what is the use of bathing at the holy places when one’s mind is filled with the dirt of ego?
Ila kuna haja gani ya kuoga pahali patakatifu wakati akili ya mtu imejawa na uchafu wa ubinafsi.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥੪॥
gur bin kin samjaa-ee-ai man raajaa sultaan. ||4||
Without the Guru who can convey the true understanding to the mind, who (in ego) thinks itself as the supreme master over the body.
Bila Guru ambaye anaweza kufikisha uelewa wa kweli kwa akili, ambayo (katika ubinafsi) inajifikiria kuwa bwana mkuu juu ya mwili.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
paraym padaarath paa-ee-ai gurmukh tat veechaar.
The wealth of God’s love is obtained by reflecting on the essence of the Guru’s teachings.
Utajiri wa upendo la Mungu unapatwa kwa kutafakati kuhusu kiini cha mafundisho ya Guru.
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
saa Dhan aap gavaa-i-aa gur kai sabad seegaar.
Such a bride-soul sheds her egotism by decorating herself with the Guru’s word.
Roho kama bi harusi kama huyo anaacha ubinafsi wake kwa kujipamba na neno la Guru.
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
ghar hee so pir paa-i-aa gur kai hayt apaar. ||5||
Through the unlimited (divine) love bestowed by the Guru, she finds the Creator in her own heart.
Kupitia upendo usio na kikomo (takatifu) uliotawazwa na Guru, anapata Muumba moyoni mwake.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur kee sayvaa chaakree man nirmal sukh ho-ay.
By serving the Guru and following His advice, the mind is purified from the vices and peace is obtained.
Kwa kutumikia Guru na kufuata ushauri wake, akili inatakaswa kutoka dhambi na amani inapatwa.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
gur kaa sabad man vasi-aa ha-umai vichahu kho-ay.
When the Guru’s word is enshrined in the mind, egotism is eliminated from within.
Wakati neno la Guru kinawekwa vizuri akilini, ubinafsi unaangamizwa kutoka humo ndani.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥
naam padaarath paa-i-aa laabh sadaa man ho-ay. ||6||
Then a person acquires the wealth of Naam, and in this way the mind always earns the spiritual bliss.
Kisha mtu anapokea utajiri wa Naam, na katika njia hii akili daima inapata furaha tele ya kiroho.
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਲਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
karam milai taa paa-ee-ai aap na la-i-aa jaa-ay.
It is only by God’s grace that Naam is obtained: it cannot be obtained by one’s own efforts.
Ni kwa neema ya Mungu pekee ambapo Naam inapatikana: haiwezi kupatwa kwa jitihada za mtu mwenyewe.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿ ਰਹੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
gur kee charnee lag rahu vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
Therefore, get rid of your ego and keep following the Guru’s advice.
Hivyo basi, jitenge na ubinafsi wako na uendelee kufuata ushauri wa Guru.
ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥
sachay saytee rati-aa sacho palai paa-ay. ||7||
Attuned to Truth, you shall obtain the True One.
Ukimakinikia Ukweli, unapata yule Mmoja wa Kweli.
ਭੁਲਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
bhulan andar sabh ko abhul guroo kartaar.
Everyone is prone to making mistakes; only the Guru and the Creator are infallible.
Kila mtu anaweza kufanya makosa; ni Guru na Muumba tu ambao wamo bila makosa yoyote.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gurmat man samjhaa-i-aa laagaa tisai pi-aar.
Whoever has trained his mind based on Guru’s teachings, develops the love for God.
Yeyote ambaye amefunza akili yake kulingana na mafundisho ya Guru, anaendeleza upendo kwa Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧੨॥
naanak saach na veesrai maylay sabad apaar. ||8||12||
O’ Nanak, whom the Guru’s word unites with the infinite God, that person never forgets the Eternal (God)
Ee Nanak, mtu ambaye neno la Guru linaunganisha na Mungu asiye na mwisho, mtu huyo kamwe hamsahau (Mungu) wa milele.

tarisnaa maa-i-aa mohnee sut banDhap ghar naar.
The enticing desire for Maya leads people to become emotionally attached to their children, relatives, households and spouses.
Hamu inayovutia ya Maya inaongoza watu kuwa na kiambatisho cha kihisia kwa watoto, jamaa, nyumba na wenzio wao wa ndoa.
ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥
Dhan joban jag thagi-aa lab lobh ahaNkaar.
The desire for worldly wealth, youth (beauty), lust, greed and pride has cheated the entire world.
Hamu ya utajiri wa kidunia, ujana (uzuri), usherati, tamaa na kiburi imedanganya dunia nzima.
ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਹਉ ਮੁਈ ਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
moh thag-ulee ha-o mu-ee saa vartai sansaar. ||1||
The intoxication of emotional attachment to Maya has destroyed me, as it has destroyed the whole world.
Kulevya kwa kiambatisho cha kihisia kwa Maya kumeniangamiza, kama tu kulivyoangamiza dunia nzima.
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mayray pareetamaa mai tujh bin avar na ko-ay.
O’ my Beloved, I have no one except You (who can save me from Maya)
Ee mpendwa wangu, sina mwengine ila Wewe (ambaye anaweza kunikomboa kutoka Maya)
ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai tujh bin avar na bhaav-ee tooN bhaaveh sukh ho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without You, nothing else is pleasing to me. Only when I love You, I am at peace.
Bila Wewe, hakuna kitu kingine ambacho kinanipendeza. Wakati tu ambapo nakuona, ndio nipo na amani.
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
naam saalaahee rang si-o gur kai sabad santokh.
Having acquired contentment by Guru’s instruction, I praise God’s Name with love!
Nikiwa nimepata kutoshelezwa kwa maelekezo ya Guru, nasifu Jina la Mungu kwa upendo!
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਸੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਵੇਖੁ ॥
jo deesai so chalsee koorhaa moh na vaykh.
Whatever is seen shall pass away. So do not be attached to this false show.
Chochote kinachoonekana kitapita. Hivyo basi usijiambatishe kwa maonyesho haya ya uongo.
ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਚਲਦਾ ਸਾਥੁ ਦੇਖੁ ॥੨॥
vaat vataa-oo aa-i-aa nit chaldaa saath daykh. ||2||
You have come in this world like a traveller. You can see that your company is passing away each day (and so will you one day)
Umekuja duniani humu kama msafiri. Unaweza kuona ya kwamba rafiki wako wanafariki kila siku (ndivyo itakavyokufanyikia siku moja)
ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖਹਿ ਕੇਤੜੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
aakhan aakhahi kayt-rhay gur bin boojh na ho-ay.
Many preach sermons, but without the Guru, understanding is not obtained.
Wengi wanatoa mahubiri, lakini bila Guru, uelewa haupatwi.
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਪੈ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam vadaa-ee jay milai sach rapai pat ho-ay.
But if one receives the blessing of God’s Name (through the Guru), one is imbued with truth and obtains true honor.
Lakini iwapo mtu apokee baraka kwa jina la Mungu (kupitia Guru), mtu anajawa na ukweli na kupata heshima ya kweli.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਖੋਟਾ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
jo tuDh bhaaveh say bhalay khotaa kharaa na ko-ay. ||3||
O’ God, they alone are good who are pleasing to you. On one’s own saying nobody is good or bad.
Ee Mungu, wao wenyewe ni wazuri ambao wanakupendeza. Kwa misemo ya mtu yeyote hakuna mtu ni mzuri ama mbaya.
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
gur sarnaa-ee chhutee-ai manmukh khotee raas.
We can only be saved (from the vices) in Guru’s shelter, a self-willed person always collects false wealth.
Tunaweza tu kukombolewa (kutoka dhambi) katika makao ya Guru, mtu mwenye wasia ya kibinafsi anakusanya utajiri wa uongo.
ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਕੀ ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿ ॥
asat Dhaat paatisaah kee gharhee-ai sabad vigaas.
The human body, created by God with eight elements, becomes spiritually enlightened when molded by the Guru’s word.
Mwili wa kibinadamu, ulioumbwa na Mungu kwa vipengele vinane, unaangazwa kiroho unapofinyangwa kwa neno la Guru.
ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥
aapay parkhay paarkhoo pavai khajaanai raas. ||4||
And God Himself examines the human souls, He accepts the virtuous ones, and unites them with Himself.
Na Mungu mwenyewe anachunguza roho za binadamu, Yeye anakubali yenye fadhila na kuziunganisha naye.
ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ॥
tayree keemat naa pavai sabh dithee thok vajaa-ay.
O’ God, I have seen and tried the entire world, but Your worth cannot be determined.
Ee Mungu, nimeona na kujaribu dunia nzima, lakini thamana yako haiwezi kuamuliwa.
ਕਹਣੈ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
kahnai haath na labh-ee sach tikai pat paa-ay.
Just by saying the depth of Your virtues cannot be found. Those who have faith in You have obtained honor,
Kwa kusema tu kina cha fadhila zako hakiwezi kupatwa. Wale ambao wana imani kwako wanapata heshima,
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
gurmat tooN salaahnaa hor keemat kahan na jaa-ay. ||5||
The Guru’s teaching is that mortals should praise You, and acknowledge that Your worth or limit cannot be described.
Funzo la Guru ni kwamba binadamu wanafaa kukusifu, na kukiri ya kwamba thamana yako au kadiri haiwezi kuelezwa.
ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਦੁ ॥
jit tan naam na bhaav-ee tit tan ha-umai vaad.
The person who does not praise the Naam is infested with ego and strife.
Mtu ambaye hasifu Naam anaathiriwa na ubinafsi na ugomvi.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥
gur bin gi-aan na paa-ee-ai bikhi-aa doojaa saad.
Without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained, and the mind begins craving for the poison of Maya.
Bila Guru, hekima ya kiroho haipatwi, na akili inaanza kutamani sumu ya Maya.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੀਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੬॥
bin gun kaam na aavee maa-i-aa feekaa saad. ||6||
Without spiritual merits nothing else will help, even the pleasures of Maya will taste insipid.
Bila sifa za kiroho hakuna kitu kinaweza kusaidia, hata raha za Maya zitakosa ladha.
ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਇ ॥
aasaa andar jammi-aa aasaa ras kas khaa-ay.
A human being is born because of the desires of previous birth, and in this birth also experiences the good and bad results of the desires.
Binadamu anazaliwa kwa sababu ya tamaa za kuzaliwa kwa awali, na katika kuzaliwa huku pia anahisi matokeo mazuri na mabaya ya tamaa.
ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਮੁਹੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
aasaa banDh chalaa-ee-ai muhay muhi chotaa khaa-ay.
Bound down by desires, he isdriven away from this world where he faces severe punishment.
Akifungwa na hamu, anafukuzwa kutoka duniani humu ambako atapata adhabu kali.
ਅਵਗਣਿ ਬਧਾ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੭॥
avgan baDhaa maaree-ai chhootai gurmat naa-ay. ||7||
Trapped in vices he lives sinful life and suffers, it is only by following the Guru’s teachings he can find release from the vices.
Akinaswa katika maovu anaishi maisha yenye dhambi na kuteseka, ni kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru tu ambapo anaweza kufanywa huru kutoka dhambi.
