ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੀ ਕੋਊ ॥
mai baho biDh paykhi-o doojaa naahee ree ko-oo.
O’ my friend, I have looked in so many ways, but there is no other like God.
Ee rafiki wangu, nimetafuta kwa njia nyingi sana, lakini hakuna mwengine kama Mungu.
ਖੰਡ ਦੀਪ ਸਭ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਭ ਲੋਊ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khand deep sabh bheetar ravi-aa poor rahi-o sabh lo-oo. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God is pervading in all the regions and islands and He is present in all the worlds. ||1||Pause|
Mungu anaenea katika maeneo yote na visiwa na Yeye yupo katika dunia zote. ||1||Sitisha||
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੰਮਾ ਕਵਨ ਮਹਿੰਮਾ ਮਨੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੋਊ ॥
agam agammaa kavan mahimmaa man jeevai sun so-oo.
God is remotest of the remote, who can describe His glory? my mind spiritually survives by listening to His praises.
Mungu yu mbali kabisa kwa wote, nani anaweza kueleza utukufu wake? Akili yangu inaishi kiroho kwa kusikiliza sifa zake.
ਚਾਰਿ ਆਸਰਮ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਰੰਨਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ਸੇਵਤੋਊ ॥੧॥
chaar aasram chaar barannaa mukat bha-ay sayvto-oo. ||1||
People living in all the four stages of life (celebates, householders, old age and recluse), and all the four castes (Brahmins, Kashattris, Vaaish and Shudras) have been emancipated by remembering God. ||1||
Watu wanaoishi katika hatua nne za maisha (waseja, wenye nyumba, uzee na wapweke), na tabaka zote nne (Brahmins, Kashattris, Vaaish and Shudras) wamekombolewa kwa kumkumbuka Mungu.
ਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੁਤੀਅ ਗਏ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਊ ॥
gur sabad drirh-aa-i-aa param pad paa-i-aa dutee-a ga-ay sukh ho-oo.
In whose heart the Guru has implanted the divine word, that person has obtained the supreme status of spiritual enlightenment, that person’s sense of duality has gone away, and peace has prevailed.
Kwa yule ambaye Guru amepandikiza neno takatifu moyoni mwake, mtu huyo amepata hadhi kuu ya mwangazo wa kiroho, hisi ya uwili ya mtu huyo imeenda, na amani imedumu.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ਸਹਜੋਊ ॥੨॥੨॥੩੩॥
kaho naanak bhav saagar tari-aa har niDh paa-ee sahjo-oo. ||2||2||33||
Nanak says, that such a person has crossed over the dreadful worldly ocean of vices and obtained spiritual poise. ||2||2||33||
Nanak anasema, kwamba mtu kama huyo amevuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi inayotisha na kupata utulivu wa kiroho.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa kweli:
ਏਕੈ ਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੈ ਜਾਨ ॥
aykai ray har aykai jaan.
O’ my brother, understand that there is one and only one God.
Ee ndugu yangu, elewa kwamba kuna Mungu Mmoja wa pekee.
ਏਕੈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aykai ray gurmukh jaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Follow the Guru’s teachings and know that God is omnipresent. ||1||Pause||
Fuata mafundisho ya Guru na ujue kwamba Mungu yupo kila mahali. ||1||Sitisha||
ਕਾਹੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਹਉ ਤੁਮ ਭ੍ਰਮਹੁ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਰਵਿਆ ਰੇ ਰਵਿਆ ਸ੍ਰਬ ਥਾਨ ॥੧॥
kaahay bharmat ha-o tum bharmahu na bhaa-ee ravi-aa ray ravi-aa sarab thaan. ||1||
Why are you wandering around? O’ my brothers, don’t wander around; He is pervading everywhere. ||1||
Kwa nini unazurura kote? Ee ndugu zangu, msizurure; Yeye anaenea kote.
ਜਿਉ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਕਾਸਟ ਮਝਾਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਜਮ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
ji-o baisantar kaasat majhaar bin sanjam nahee kaaraj saar.
O’ my friends, just as fire is locked in the wood, but it cannot be lighted without the proper technique to accomplish the desired task.
Ee marafiki wangu, kama vile moto imefungiwa kwenye kuni, lakini hauwezi kuwashwa bila mbinu inayofaa kufanikisha kazi haswa.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਕੋ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
bin gur na paavaigo har jee ko du-aar.
Similarly, God is pervading everywhere, but you cannot experience His presence without the Guru’s teachings.
Vivyo hivyo, Mungu anaenea kote, lakini hauwezi kuhisi uwepo wake bila mafundisho ya Guru.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਏ ਹੈ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੪॥
mil sangat taj abhimaan kaho naanak paa-ay hai param niDhaan. ||2||1||34||
Nanak says, the supreme treasure of Naam is received, by joining the holy congregation and shedding ego. ||2||1||34||
Nanak anasema, hazina kuu ya Naam inapokelewa, kwa kujiunga na ushirika mtakatifu na kuondoa ubinafsi.

ਜਾਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਾਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaanee na jaa-ee taa kee gaat. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my friends, the state of God cannot be known. ||1||Pause||
Ee marafiki wangu, hali ya Mungu haiwezi kujulikana. ||1||Sitisha||
ਕਹ ਪੇਖਾਰਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਬਿਸਮਨ ਬਿਸਮੇ ਕਹਨ ਕਹਾਤਿ ॥੧॥
kah paykhaara-o ha-o kar chaturaa-ee bisman bismay kahan kahaat. ||1||
How can I describe Him through my cleverness; even those who try to describe His form are simply wonder-struck and amazed.||1||
Ninawezaje kumweleza Yeye kupitia ujanja wangu; hata wale wanaojaribu kueleza muundo wake wanastaajabishwa na kuduwazwa.
ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਸਿਧ ਅਰੁ ਸਾਧਿਕ ॥
gan ganDharab siDh ar saaDhik.
The heavenly singers, the attendants of the angels, the adepts, the seekers,
Waimbaji wa kimbingu, watumishi wa malaika, stadi, watafuta,
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿਕ ॥
sur nar dayv barahm barahmaadik.
the angelic beings, angels, Brahma and other gods,
viumbe vya kimalaika, malaika, Brahma na miungu wengine,
ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਉਚਰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
chatur bayd uchrat din raat.
and the four Vedas proclaim, day and night,
na Vedas nne zinatangaza, mchana na usiku,
ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਆਗਾਧਿ ॥
agam agam thaakur aagaaDh.
that God is incomprehensible inaccessible and unfathomable.
Kwamba Mungu hawezi kuelezwa, hawezi kufikiwa na hawezi kufahamika.
ਗੁਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਭਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥੨॥੩੫॥
gun bay-ant bay-ant bhan naanak kahan na jaa-ee parai paraat. ||2||2||35||
Nanak says that it is impossible to find the limit of God’s virtues. He is limitless, His form cannot be described; He is farther than the farthest. ||2||2||35||
Nanak anasema kwamba haiwezekani kupata kikomo cha fadhila za Mungu. Yeye hana vikomo, muundo wake hauwezi kuelezwa; Yeye yu mbali kabisa kwa wote.

ਧਿਆਏ ਗਾਏ ਕਰਨੈਹਾਰ ॥
Dhi-aa-ay gaa-ay karnaihaar.
The one who remembers and sings praises of that Creator,
Yule ambaye anakumbuka na kuimba sifa za Muumba huyo,
ਭਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਓਹੀ ਰੇ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bha-o naahee sukh sahj anandaa anik ohee ray ayk samaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
becomes fearless and enjoys peace, poise and bliss: O’ my friend, enshrine that God in your heart, who is both one and innumerable. ||1||Pause||
anakuwa bila woga na anafurahia amani, utulivu na raha tele: Ee rafiki wangu, thamini Mungu huyo moyoni mwako, ambaye ni mmoja ila hawezi kuhesabika. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥੈ ॥
safal moorat gur mayrai maathai.
That Guru, whose blessed vision is rewarding in life, has given his support to me,
Guru huyo, ambaye mwono wake uliobarikiwa wenye kuthawabisha, amenipa tegemezo yake,
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਤ ਤਤ ਸਾਥੈ ॥
jat kat paykha-o tat tat saathai.
and now wherever I see, I find God with me.
Na sasa popote ninapoangalia, napata Mungu nami.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
charan kamal mayray paraan aDhaar. ||1||
The immaculate Name of God is the Support of my life. ||1||
Jina safi la Mungu ni Tegemezo ya maisha yangu.
ਸਮਰਥ ਅਥਾਹ ਬਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
samrath athaah badaa parabh mayraa.
My God is all-powerful, unfathomable and the greatest of all.
Mungu wangu ni mweza yote, hawezi kufahamika na ndiye mkuu zaidi kwa wote.
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥
ghat ghat antar saahib nayraa.
That Master pervades every heart and is near all.
Bwana huyo anaenea kila moyo na yu karibu na vyote.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਸਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥੨॥੩॥੩੬॥
taa kee saran aasar parabh naanak jaa kaa ant na paaraavaar. ||2||3||36||
O’ Nanak, I have sought the shelter and support of that God whose virtues have no end or limit. ||2||3||36||
Ee Nanak, nimetafuta kificho na tegemezo ya Mungu huyo ambaye fadhila zake hazina mwisho au kikomo.

ਉਲਟੀ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਉਲਟੀ ਰੇ ॥
ultee ray man ultee ray.
Turn away O’ my mind, yes turn away,
Geuka Ee akili yangu, ndio geuka,
ਸਾਕਤ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਉਲਟੀ ਰੇ ॥
saakat si-o kar ultee ray.
Turn away from the faithless cynic.
Geuka kutoka kwa mbeuzi asiye na imani.
ਝੂਠੈ ਕੀ ਰੇ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jhoothai kee ray jhooth pareet chhutkee ray man chhutkee ray saakat sang na chhutkee ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my friend, the love of the false one is always false, it never lasts till the end, and definitely breaks down; also in the company of the cynics one is never able to find liberation from vices. ||1||Pause||
Ee rafiki wangu, upendo wa yule asiye wa kweli daima sio wa kweli, kamwe haudumu hadi mwishowe, na kwa uhakika unaporomoka; pia katika uandamano wa wabeuzi mtu kamwe hawezi kupata ukombozi kutoka maovu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਿਉ ਕਾਜਰ ਭਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਜੋ ਪੈਸੈ ਕਾਲੂਖੀ ਰੇ ॥
ji-o kaajar bhar mandar raakhi-o jo paisai kaalookhee ray.
O’ my mind, just as if a room is kept full with the soot, anybody who enters this room would be smeared black. Similarly by associating with cynic, one would get the soot of evil and vices.
Ee akili yangu, kama tu vile chumba kinawekwa kimejawa na masizi, mtu yeyote anayeingia humu atapakwa na huo uweusi. Vivyo hivyo kwa kuhusiana na mbeuzi, mtu anapata masizi ya uovu na dhambi.
ਦੂਰਹੁ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਭਾਗਿ ਗਇਓ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
Dhoorahu hee tay bhaag ga-i-o hai jis gur mil chhutkee tarikutee ray. ||1||
The person, who after meeting the Guru, rises above the three modes of Maya (vice, virtue and power), runs away upon seeing a cynic from a distance. ||1||
Mtu, ambaye baada ya kukutana na Guru, anainuka zaidi ya mbinu tatu za Maya (uovu, fadhila na nguvu), anatoroka anapoona mbeuzi kutoka mbali.
ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜੁਟਸੀ ਰੇ ॥
maaga-o daan kirpaal kirpaa niDh mayraa mukh saakat sang na jutsee ray.
O’ my merciful and kind God, I beg from You this one gift, that I may never have to deal with any cynic.
Ee Mungu mwema na mwenye huruma, naomba kutoka Kwako zawadi hii moja, kwamba kamwe nisiwahi kabiliana na mbeuzi yeyote.
