Salok, Guru wa tano:
ਰਹਦੇ ਖੁਹਦੇ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਹਰੁ ॥
rahday khuhday nindak maari-an kar aapay aahar.
God Himself destroyed the slanderers and the evil doers.
Mungu mwenyewe aliangamiza wachongezi na waovu.
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਜਾਹਰੁ ॥੧॥
sant sahaa-ee naankaa vartai sabh jaahar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, God, the eternal supporter of the saints is pervading everywhere and all His deeds are apparent everywhere. ||1||
Ee Nanak, Mungu, msaidizi wa milele wa watakatifu anaingilia kote na matendo yake yote yanadhihirika kila mahali. ||1||

ਮੁੰਢਹੁ ਭੁਲੇ ਮੁੰਢ ਤੇ ਕਿਥੈ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਹਥੁ ॥
mundhhu bhulay mundh tay kithai paa-in hath.
Those who went astray from God from the very beginning, where are they going to find refuge?
Walioenda kinyume na Mungu tangu mwanzo wanakimbilia wapi kupata faraja?
ਤਿੰਨੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥੨॥
tinnai maaray naankaa je karan kaaran samrath. ||2||
O’ Nanak, they are struck down by God, the Cause of causes. ||2||
Ee Nanak, wamevamiwa na kuangamizwa na Mungu, chanzo cha mianzo.

Pauree, Guru wa tano:
ਲੈ ਫਾਹੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਤੁਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥
lai faahay raatee tureh parabh jaanai paraanee.
God knows those persons who move around in the night with noose in their hands to strangle their victims.
Mungu anawajua wale watu wanaotembea usiku wakiwa na kitanzi mikononi mwao cha kunyonga wahasiriwa.
ਤਕਹਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਈਆ ਲੁਕਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਠਾਣੀ ॥
takeh naar paraa-ee-aa luk andar thaanee.
Concealed in their hiding places, they look at others’ women with evil intentions.
Wakiwa mafichoni mwao, wanawatazama wake wa wenyewe na nia mbaya.
ਸੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਦੇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਵਿਖੰਮ ਥਾਇ ਮਿਠਾ ਮਦੁ ਮਾਣੀ ॥
sanHee dayniH vikhamm thaa-ay mithaa mad maanee.
They break into well-protected places, and enjoy alcohol, deeming it sweet.
Kisha wanaenda mahali palipolindwa si haba na kujiburudisha kwa vileo,wakividhani kuwa tamu.
ਕਰਮੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀ ॥
karmee aapo aapnee aapay pachhutaanee.
Ultimately they regret as per their own deeds.
Mwishowe wanajuta matendo yao wenyewe.
ਅਜਰਾਈਲੁ ਫਰੇਸਤਾ ਤਿਲ ਪੀੜੇ ਘਾਣੀ ॥੨੭॥
ajraa-eel faraystaa til peerhay ghaanee. ||27||
Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, severely punishes them like crushing sesame seeds in the oil-press.
Mara kwa wataadhibiwa na malaika wa kifo aitwaye Azraa-eel kama vile ufuta hupondwa katika kinu. ||27||

Salok, Guru wa tano:
ਸੇਵਕ ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹ ਕੇ ਸੇਈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
sayvak sachay saah kay say-ee parvaan.
Only the servants of the true God are acceptable in God’s court.
Wale wanaokubalika katika makao ya Mungu ni watumishi wa Mungu wa kweli peke yake.
ਦੂਜਾ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸੇ ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਅਜਾਣ ॥੧॥
doojaa sayvan naankaa say pach pach mu-ay ajaan. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the ignorant who worship someone other than God, die being wasted in useless pursuits. ||1||
Ewe Nanak, mpumbavu anayemwabudu binadamu badala ya Mungu, fariki ukifuata mambo yasiyo na dhamani.

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
jo Dhur likhi-aa laykh parabh maytnaa na jaa-ay.
O’ God, what has been preordained based on past deeds cannot be erased.
Eh Mungu, kilichotawazwa mwanzo kkulingana na matendo ya kale hakiwezi kikatupiliwa mbali.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਵਖਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨॥
raam naam Dhan vakhro naanak sadaa Dhi-aa-ay. ||2||
But O’ Nanak, always meditate and collect the wealth of God’s Name which can eradicate the account of past deeds.
Lakini ewe Nanak, wasia na ikusanyeni mali ya jinala Mungu lililo na nguvu ya kuondoa uwepo wa mambo ya kale.

ਨਾਰਾਇਣਿ ਲਇਆ ਨਾਠੂੰਗੜਾ ਪੈਰ ਕਿਥੈ ਰਖੈ ॥
naaraa-in la-i-aa naathooNgarhaa pair kithai rakhai.
The one whom God has kicked away (forsaken), has no place in the world.
Na yule ambaye ametengwa mbali na Mungu, (aliyeachwa) hana nafasi katika dunia.
ਕਰਦਾ ਪਾਪ ਅਮਿਤਿਆ ਨਿਤ ਵਿਸੋ ਚਖੈ ॥
kardaa paap amiti-aa nit viso chakhai.
Everyday he commits countless sins, and consumes the poison of vices
Yeye hutenda dhambi zisizohesabika kila siku na kunywa sumu ya maovu.
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਭਖੈ ॥
nindaa kardaa pach mu-aa vich dayhee bhakhai.
Slandering others, he burns in anger and wastes away his entire life.
Huku akiwasengenya wengine, yeye huchomeka kutokana na hasira na kisha kuharibu maisha yake yote.
ਸਚੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਰਖੈ ॥
sachai saahib maari-aa ka-un tis no rakhai.
Who can protect the one whom the true Master has struck down?
Je,nani aliye na uwezo wa kumlinda aliyepigwa na Bwana mkubwa na wa kweli?
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਜੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਲਖੈ ॥੨੮॥
naanak tis sarnaagatee jo purakh alkhai. ||28||
O’ Nanak, to escape from vices, seek the refuge of the incomprehensible God. ||28||
Ewe Nanak, ili kuepukana na maovu, tafuta faraja ya Mungu asiyeweza kueleweka. ||28||

ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖ ਘਣੇ ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ॥
narak ghor baho dukh ghanay akirat-ghanaa kaa thaan.
The ungrateful wretches live all their life in extreme sorrows, as if they are living in the most horrible hell.
Fukara asiye na shukranihuishi maisha yao yote katika hali ya huzuni ya ajabu kana kwamba wanaishi katika kuzimu ya kutisha.
ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਹੋਇ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
tin parabh maaray naankaa ho-ay ho-ay mu-ay haraam. ||1||
O’ Nanak, they are struck down by God, and they die a miserable death. ||1||
Ewe Nanak, wamepigwa na Mungu na wanakufa kifo cha kuhuzunisha. ||1||

ਅਵਖਧ ਸਭੇ ਕੀਤਿਅਨੁ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਕਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
avkhaDh sabhay keeti-an nindak kaa daaroo naahi.
There are remedies for all ailments, but none to cure the slanderer.
Kuna dawa ya magonjwa yote lakini hamna yoyote inayomponya msengenyi.
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
aap bhulaa-ay naankaa pach pach jonee paahi. ||2||
O’ Nanak, those who forsake God (because of their previous deeds) are cast into the rounds of birth and death.
Ewe Nanak, wanaomwacha Mungu (kwa sababu ya mambo yao ya awali) wanarushwa katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa. ||2||

ਤੁਸਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ॥
tus ditaa poorai satguroo har Dhan sach akhut.
By His Pleasure, those whom the true Guru has blessed with the inexhaustible treasure of God’s Name,
Kwa mapenzi yake, wale anawabariki Guru kwa jina la dhamani la Mungu na ambalo haliishi,
ਸਭਿ ਅੰਦੇਸੇ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਏ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਛੁਟੁ ॥
sabh andaysay mit ga-ay jam kaa bha-o chhut.
all their doubts and worries are dispelled along with the fear of death.
shauku na shida zao zote zinaondolewa pamoja na woga wa kifo.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆਂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਤੁਟੁ ॥
kaam kroDh buri-aa-ee-aaN sang saaDhoo tut.
Lust, anger and all other sins are eliminated in the holy congregation.
Ukware, hasira na dhambi zingine zote zinaondolewa miongoni mwa washirika watakatifu.
ਵਿਣੁ ਸਚੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਹੁਇ ਮਰਸਨਿ ਬੁਟੁ ॥
vin sachay doojaa sayvday hu-ay marsan but.
Those who worship another, instead of God, die like a helpless newly born bird.
Na wanaoabudu mwingine kando na Mungu huwa kama kinda aliyezaliwa na hana uwezo wa kujinusuru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਬਖਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਟੁ ॥੨੯॥
naanak ka-o gur bakhsi-aa naamai sang jut. ||29||
O’ Nanak, the one who has been blessed by God is attuned to Naam through the Guru. ||29||
Ewe Nanak, aliyebarikiwa na Mungu ameungana na Naam kupitia kwa Guru. ||29||

ਤਪਾ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਅੰਦ੍ਰਹੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਨਿਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੋ ਫਿਰੈ ਜਜਮਾਲਿਆ ॥
tapaa na hovai andarahu lobhee nit maa-i-aa no firai jajmaali-aa.
One who is completely greedy and is always looking for wealth, cannot be considered to be a true ascetic.
Yeyote aliye mlafi na anayetafuta kujikusanyia mali kila mara hawezitajwa kama mfuasi wa kweli.
ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਸਦਿਆ ਸਤੈ ਦੀ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਲਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਿਛੋ ਦੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ਕੈ ਆਣਿ ਤਪੈ ਪੁਤੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਹਾਲਿਆ ॥
ago day sadi-aa satai dee bhikhi-aa la-ay naahee pichho day pachhutaa-ay kai aan tapai put vich bahaali-aa.
This ascetic when invited first, wouldn’t come to accept the alms being given with due honor. But later repenting over the missed opportunity for a rich bounty, he stealthily brings his son and makes him sit among the guests.
Mfuasi huyu kwa mara ya kwanza hangekubali sadaka ya heshima lakini baada ya kutubu kwa sababu ya hii fursa ya kutajirika aliyoikosa awali, anamleta mtoto wake kichinichini na kumpa nafasi aketi kati ya wageni.
ਪੰਚ ਲੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਹਸਣ ਲਗੇ ਤਪਾ ਲੋਭਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਗਾਲਿਆ ॥
panch log sabh hasan lagay tapaa lobh lahar hai gaali-aa.
The village elders begin to laugh saying that the waves of greed have destroyed this ascetic.
Wazee wa kijiji wanaangua kicheko wakisemakuwa mawimbi ya ulafi umeharibu mfuasi huyu.
ਜਿਥੈ ਥੋੜਾ ਧਨੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਿਥੈ ਤਪਾ ਭਿਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਧਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੈ ਡਿਠੈ ਤਪੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
jithai thorhaa Dhan vaykhai tithai tapaa bhitai naahee Dhan bahutai dithai tapai Dharam haari-aa.
Where this ascetic expects only a small donation, there he doesn’t set his foot, but where he expects a rich reward, he forsakes all his ethics.
Mfuasi huyu, popote anatarajia msaada kidogo hapakanyagi kamwe lakini pale anapotarajia zawadi nene, anatupilia mbali hata tabia zake.
ਭਾਈ ਏਹੁ ਤਪਾ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਬਗੁਲਾ ਹੈ ਬਹਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
bhaa-ee ayhu tapaa na hovee bagulaa hai bahi saaDh janaa veechaari-aa.
O’ brother, sitting together the saintly persons have deliberated that such a person is not an ascetic, but a hypocrite like a stork.
Ewe ndugu, kati ya watakatifu wamegundua kuwa mtu wa aina hii si mfuasi bali mnafiki kama korongo.
ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੀ ਤਪਾ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਏਤੁ ਦੋਖੈ ਤਪਾ ਦਯਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
sat purakh kee tapaa nindaa karai sansaarai kee ustatee vich hovai ayt dokhai tapaa da-yi maari-aa.
The so called ascetic slanders the Guru, and praises the worldly people. Because of such a misdeed, he gets spiritually depleted.
Huyu ajiitaye mfuasi anamsengenya Guru huku akiwasifu watu wa ulimwengu. Kwa sababu ya kosa hili, anaisha kiroho.
ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਾ ਵੇਖੁ ਜਿ ਤਪੇ ਨੋ ਫਲੁ ਲਗਾ ਸਭੁ ਗਇਆ ਤਪੇ ਕਾ ਘਾਲਿਆ ॥
mahaa purkhaaN kee nindaa kaa vaykh je tapay no fal lagaa sabh ga-i-aa tapay kaa ghaali-aa.
Look at the consequences, the so called ascetic suffered for slandering the pious persons; all the hard effort done by him went to waste.
Hebu angaliamadhara aliyopitia kwa kumdharau mcha Mungu, bidii yake yote iliambulia patupu.
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬਹੈ ਪੰਚਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤਪਾ ਸਦਾਏ ॥
baahar bahai panchaa vich tapaa sadaa-ay.
Sitting outside among the elders, he makes himself known as an ascetic,
Akiwa ameketi nje miongoni mwa wazee, anajitambulisha kama mfuasi,
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਹੈ ਤਪਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
andar bahai tapaa paap kamaa-ay.
and sitting inside, the ascetic commits sin.
na akiwandani, mfuasi huyu anatenda dhambi.
