ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਕਾ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sabad marai man maarai apunaa muktee kaa dar paavni-aa. ||3||
By following the Guru’s word, he controls his mind and attains freedom from the bonds of Maya.
Kwa kufuata neno la Guru, anadhibiti akili yake na kupata uhuru kutoka vifungo vya Maya.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
kilvikh kaatai kroDh nivaaray.
He erases his sins, and eliminates his anger;
Anafuta dhambi zake, na kuondoa hasira yake;
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
gur kaa sabad rakhai ur Dhaaray.
He keeps the Guru’s word in his mind.
Anaweka neno la Guru akilini mwake.
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
sach ratay sadaa bairaagee ha-umai maar milaavani-aa. ||4||
Those who are attuned to Truth, remain detached from Maya forever. Subduing their egotism, they remain united with God.
Wale ambao wamemakinikia ukweli, wanabaki wamejitenga kutoka Maya millele. Wakishinda ubinafsi wao, wanabaki wameungana na Mungu.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
antar ratan milai milaa-i-aa.
Within every one is the precious Naam, which is realized only through the Guru.
Ndani mwa kila mtu kuna Naam yenye thamana, inayogunduliwa tu kupitia kwa Guru.
ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
taribaDh mansaa taribaDh maa-i-aa.
The mind is bound by the three kinds of desires and the three modes of Maya.
Akili imefungwa na aina tatu za hamu na mbinu tatu za Maya.
ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੋਨੀ ਥਕੇ ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
parh parh pandit monee thakay cha-uthay pad kee saar na paavni-aa. ||5||
The pundits and the silent sages have grown tired of reading scriptures but have not realized the supreme essence of the fourth state of mind (peace and poise).
Wataalam na wajuzi wanyamavu wamechoka wakisoma maandishi lakini hawajagundua kiini kikuu cha hali ya nne ya akili (amani na utulivu).
ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਏ ॥
aapay rangay rang charhaa-ay.
Of His own accord, God imbues mortals with His love.
Kwa hiari yake mwenyewe, Mungu anajazia binadamu upendo wake.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ॥
say jan raatay gur sabad rangaa-ay.
Only they remain absorbed in God’s love who are imbued with the Guru’s word .
Ni wale tu wanaobaki wamevama katika upendo wa Mungu ambao wamevama katika neno la Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਅਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
har rang charhi-aa at apaaraa har ras ras gun gaavani-aa. ||6||
Being extremely imbued with God’s Love, they keep singing the Glorious Praises of God, with great pleasure and joy.
Wakiwa wamejawa kabisa na Upendo wa Mungu, wanaendelea kuimba Sifa Tukufu za Mungu, kwa raha kuu na furaha.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
gurmukh riDh siDh sach sanjam so-ee.
To the Guru’s follower, God’s Name is all the wealth, miraculous spiritual powers and strict self-discipline.
Kwa mfuasi wa Guru, Jina la Mungu ni utajiri wote, nguvu za miujiza za kiroho na nidhamu kali ya kibinafsi.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
gurmukh gi-aan naam mukat ho-ee.
Through the spiritual wisdom of the Naam, the Guru’s follower is liberated.
Kupitia hekima ya kiroho ya Naam, mfuasi wa Guru anakombolewa.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
gurmukh kaar sach kamaaveh sachay sach samaavani-aa. ||7||
The Guru’s follower leads a truthful life, and thus truly merges in God.
Mfuasi wa Guru anaishi maisha ya kweli, na kisha kwa kweli anaungana na Mungu.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਥਾਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥
gurmukh thaapay thaap uthaapay.
The Guru’s follower realizes that it is God who creates and destroys His creation.
Mfuasi wa Guru anagundua ya kwamba ni Mungu anayeumba na kuangamiza uumbaji wake.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ॥
gurmukh jaat pat sabh aapay.
To the Guru’s follower God Himself is his social class, status and honor.
Kwa mfuasi wa Guru Mungu mwenyewe ni tabaka la kijamii, hadhi na heshima.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੨॥੧੩॥
naanak gurmukh naam Dhi-aa-ay naamay naam samaavani-aa. ||8||12||13||
O Nanak, the Guru’s follower meditates on Naam with loving devotion and through Naam merges in God.
Ee Nanak, mfuasi wa Guru anatafakari Naam kwa kujitolea kwa upendo na kupitia Naam anaungana na Mungu.

ਉਤਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਸਬਦੇ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
utpat parla-o sabday hovai.
Creation and destruction happen through the Divine Word.
Uumbaji na uharibifu unatendeka kupitia Neno Takatifu.
ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
sabday hee fir opat hovai.
Through the Divine Word, creation happens again.
Kupitia Neno la Guru, uumbaji unatendeka tena.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
gurmukh vartai sabh aapay sachaa gurmukh upaa-ay samaavani-aa. ||1||
The Guru’s follower realizes that God pervades everywhere, and after creating the universe, He is permeating in His creation.
Mfuasi wa Guru anagundua ya kwamba Mungu anaenea kote, na baada ya kuumba ulimwengu, Yeye anapenyeza katika uumbaji wake.
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree gur pooraa man vasaavani-aa.
I totally dedicate myself to those who enshrine the Perfect Guru in their minds.
Najiweka wakfu kabisa kwa wale wanaoweka vizuri Guru kamili akilini mwao.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur tay saat bhagat karay din raatee gun kahi gunee samaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s word one obtains peace, and worships God day and night. By singing His praises, he merges in the treasure of virtues (God).
Kwa kuimba sifa zake, anaungana na hazina ya fadhila (Mungu).
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਣੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਣੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਖੇਲੈ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥
gurmukh Dhartee gurmukh paanee.gurmukh pavan baisantar khaylai vidaanee.
The Guru’s follower believes that the wonderful God Himself shows His wonders in the form of land, water, air, and fire.
Mfuasi wa Guru anasadiki ya kwamba Mungu mzuri mwenyewe anaonyesha maajabu yake katika miundo ya ardhi, maji, anga na moto.
ਸੋ ਨਿਗੁਰਾ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
so niguraa jo mar mar jammai niguray aavan jaavani-aa. ||2||
One who does not follow the Guru’s teachings spiritually dies again and again. Without the Guru’s teachings he wanders through the cycles of birth and death.
Bila mafundisho ya Guru anazurura kupitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
tin kartai ik khayl rachaa-i-aa.
The Creator has set this play in motion.
Muumba ameanzisha mchezo huu.
ਕਾਇਆ ਸਰੀਰੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
kaa-i-aa sareerai vich sabh kichh paa-i-aa.
In this human body, He has placed everything.
Katika mwili huu wa kibinadamu, Yeye ameweka kila kitu.
ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਕੋਈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਹਲੇ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sabad bhayd ko-ee mahal paa-ay mahlay mahal bulaavani-aa. ||3||
The one who, through the Guru’s word reflects on himself and realizes the mystery of divinity within, enjoys God’s grace.
Yule ambaye, kupitia neno la Guru anatafakari kujihusu na kugundua fumbo la uungu ndani mwake, anafurahia neema ya Mungu.
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥
sachaa saahu sachay vanjaaray.
God is like an eternal banker and all the mortals are His traders,
Mungu ni kama mkurugenzi wa benki wa milele na binadamu wote ni wafanya biashara wake,
ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
sach vanaNjahi gur hayt apaaray.
Through unending love for the Guru, they deal in God’s true Name.
Kupitia upendo kwa Guru usio na mwisho, wanajihusisha katika Jina la kweli la Mungu.
ਸਚੁ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
sach vihaajheh sach kamaaveh sacho sach kamaavani-aa. ||4||
They deal in Truth, and they practice Truth. They earn Truth, and only Truth.
Wanajihusisha katika Ukweli, na kutenda ya kweli. Wanachuma Ukweli, na Ukweli pekee.
ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੋ ਵਥੁ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
bin raasee ko vath ki-o paa-ay.
Without investing the capital of loving devotional worship, how can anyone acquire the wealth of God’s Name?
Bila kuwekeza rasilimali ya ibada ya kujitolea kwa upendo, mtu yeyote atawezaje kupata utajiri wa Jina la Mungu?
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਬਾਏ ॥
manmukh bhoolay lok sabaa-ay.
All the self-willed manmukhs have gone astray.
Manmukh wote wenye hiari binafsi wamepotoka.
ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਸਭ ਖਾਲੀ ਚਲੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਜਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
bin raasee sabh khaalee chalay khaalee jaa-ay dukh paavni-aa. ||5||
Without true wealth of God’s Name, they go empty-handed; going empty-handed, they suffer in pain.
Bila utajiri wa kweli wa Jina la Mungu, wanaenda mikono mitupu; wakienda mikono mitupu, wanateseka kwa uchungu.
ਇਕਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
ik sach vanaNjahi gur sabad pi-aaray.
They who love the Guru’s word, and invest in the capital of Naam.
Wale wanaopenda neno la Guru, na kuwekeza katika rasilimali ya Naam.
ਆਪਿ ਤਰਹਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ॥
aap tareh saglay kul taaray.
They save themselves, and save all their generations as well
Wanajikomboa, na kukomboa vizazi vyao vyote pia
ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੋਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
aa-ay say parvaan ho-ay mil pareetam sukh paavni-aa. ||6||
Their coming into this world is approved in God’s court. Meeting their beloved God, they enjoy the bliss.
Kuja kwao duniani humu kumeidhinishwa katika mahakama ya Mungu. Wakikutana na Mungu wao mpendwa, wanafurahia raha tele.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਮੂੜਾ ਬਾਹਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ॥
antar vasat moorhaa baahar bhaalay.
Deep within the self is the wealth of Naam, but the fool looks for it outside.
Ndani mwa mtu kwa kina kuna utajiri wa Naam, lakini mpumbavu anaitafuta kule nje.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬੇਤਾਲੇ ॥
manmukh anDhay fireh baytaalay.
The spiritually blind self-willed manmukhs wander around like demons.
Manmukh vipofu wa kiroho wenye hiari binafsi wanazurura kote kama mapepo.
ਜਿਥੈ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਥਹੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
jithai vath hovai tithhu ko-ay na paavai manmukh bharam bhulaavani-aa. ||7||
The self-conceited manmukhs are lost in doubt because none of them try to receive this wealth of God’s Name from the Guru.
Manmukh wenye majivuno binafsi wamepotea katika shaka kwa sababu hakuna hata mmoja wao amejaribu kupokea utajiri wa Jina la Mungu kutoka kwa Guru.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥
aapay dayvai sabad bulaa-ay.
God Himself gives this valuable wealth of Naam, through the Guru’s word. He Himself allows some to His presence,
Mungu mwenyewe anatoa utajiri wenye thamana wa Naam, kupitia neno la Guru. Yeye mwenyewe anaruhusu wengine kwa uwepo wake.
ਮਹਲੀ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
mahlee mahal sahj sukh paa-ay.
Then those enter His court and enjoys peace and poise.
Wale wanaoingia mahakama yake na kufurahia amani na utulivu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧੩॥੧੪॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee aapay sun sun Dhi-aavani-aa. ||8||13||14||
O’ Nanak, It is through Naam that such an honor is obtained in God’s court. He firmly believes that God Himself listens our prayers and watches over us.
Ee Nanak, ni kupitia Naam ambapo heshima kama hiyo inapatikana katika mahakama ya Mungu. Yeye anasidiki kwa uthabiti ya kwamba Mungu mwenyewe anasikiza maombi yetu na kutuchunga.

The True Guru has imparted the True Teachings.
