ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਜਨ ਆਖੀ ॥
sun sun jeevai daas tumH banee jan aakhee.
O’ God, Your devotee gets spiritually rejuvenated by listening to the Guru’s divine words of Your praises.
Ee Mungu, mtawa wako anasisimuliwa kiroho kwa kusikiliza maneno takatifu ya Guru ya sifa zako.
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਲੋਅ ਮਹਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pargat bha-ee sabh lo-a meh sayvak kee raakhee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It becomes known in the entire world that You protect the honor of Your devotees by saving them from the vices. ||1||Pause||
Inajulikana duniani kote kwamba Wewe unalinda staha ya watawa Wako kwa kuwaokoa kutoka maovu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
agan saagar tay kaadhi-aa parabh jalan bujhaa-ee.
God pulled His devotee out of the fire of the world ocean of vices and quenched that devotee’s burning thirst of worldly desires.
Mungu alivuta mtawa wake kutoka kwa moto wa bahari dunia ya maovu na kuzima kui kali ya mtawa wake cha hamu za kidunia.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਲੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨॥
amrit naam jal sanchi-aa gur bha-ay sahaa-ee. ||2||
The Guru helped him by attuning him to Naam, as if the Guru sprinkled the ambrosial nectar of Name on him. ||2||
Guru akimsaidia kwa kumpatanisha kwa Naam, kana kwamba Guru amenyunyuza nekta ya ambrosia ya Jina kwake.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
janam maran dukh kaati-aa sukh kaa thaan paa-i-aa.
That devotee got liberated from the misery of the cycle of birth and death and he received a place in God’s presence where there is nothing but peace;
Mtawa huyo alikombolewa kutoka kwa taabu ya mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa na alipokea nafasi katika uwepo wa Mungu ambapo kuna amani peke yake;
ਕਾਟੀ ਸਿਲਕ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
kaatee silak bharam moh kee apnay parabh bhaa-i-aa. ||3||
he snapped the noose of doubt and emotional attachment, and became pleasing to his God. ||3||
yeye alivunja kitanzi cha shaka na kiambatisho cha kihisia, na akawa wa kupendeza kwa Mungu wake.
ਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਛੁ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥
mat ko-ee jaanhu avar kachh sabh parabh kai haath.
Let no one think that there could be other (means of achieving liberation from the worldly attachments); everything is in God’s control.
Mtu yeyote asifikirie kwamba kunaweza kuwa na nyingine (mbinu za kutimiza ukombozi kutoka kwa viambatisho vya kidunia); kila kitu kipo katika udhibiti wa Mungu.
ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਏ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਸਾਥਿ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੫੨॥
sarab sookh naanak paa-ay sang santan saath. ||4||22||52||
O’ Nanak, one who stays in the company of the saintly people, receives all comforts and celestial peace. ||4||22||52||

banDhan kaatay aap parabh ho-aa kirpaal.
God snapped all worldly bonds of the person on whom He became merciful.
Mungu alivunja vifungo vyote vya kidunia vya mtu ambaye Yeye alimhurumia.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥
deen da-i-aal parabh paarbarahm taa kee nadar nihaal. ||1||
The supreme God is merciful to the meek; one becomes blissful by His glance of grace.||1||
Mungu Mkuu ni mwenye huruma kwa wapole; mtu anakuwa na raha tele kwa mtazamo Wake wa neema.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ॥
gur poorai kirpaa karee kaati-aa dukh rog.
The perfect Guru eradicated all the misery and affliction of the person, upon whom he bestowed His mercy;
Guru kamili alitokomeza taabu na magonjwa yote ya mtu, ambaye alimtawazia huruma Yake;
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਵਨ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man tan seetal sukhee bha-i-aa parabh Dhi-aavan jog. ||1|| rahaa-o.
by meditating on God who is the most worthy of meditation, his mind and body became calm and peaceful. ||1||Pause||
kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu ambaye anastahili utafakari kabisa, akili na mwili wake ulikuwa tulivu na wenye amani. ||1||Sitisha||
ਅਉਖਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥
a-ukhaDh har kaa naam hai jit rog na vi-aapai.
O’ my friends, God’s Name is such a medicine, by virtue of which no malady can afflict a person.
Ee marafiki wangu, Jina la Mungu ni dawa ya kipekee, ambayo kwa msingi wake hakuna ugonjwa unaweza kuathiri mtu.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਤੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥
saaDhsang man tan hitai fir dookh na jaapai. ||2||
In the company of the saints, when God’s Name becomes dear to the mind and body, then one does not feel any sorrow. ||2||
Katika uandamano wa watakatifu, wakati Jina la Mungu linapendeza kwa akili na mwili, basi mtu hahisi huzuni yoyote.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
har har har har jaapee-ai antar liv laa-ee.
We should meditate on God’s Name with full concentration of mind,
Tunafaa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa umakini kamili wa akili,
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥
kilvikh utreh suDh ho-ay saaDhoo sarnaa-ee. ||3||
doing this by seeking the Guru’s refuge, all sins are removed and the mind becomes immaculate. ||3||
kufanya hivi kwa kutafuta kimbilio cha Guru, dhambi zote zinaondolewa na akili inakuwa takatifu.
ਸੁਨਤ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਦੂਰਿ ਬਲਾਈ ॥
sunat japat har naam jas taa kee door balaa-ee.
All calamities of a person are dispelled by lovingly meditating on God’s Name and listening to His praises.
Misiba yote ya mtu inaondolewa kwa kutafakari kwa upendo kuhusu Jina la Mungu na kusikiliza sifa zake.
ਮਹਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਥੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੪॥੨੩॥੫੩॥
mahaa mantar naanak kathai har kay gun gaa-ee. ||4||23||53||
Nanak describes this supreme mantra by singing the praises of God. ||4||23||53||

bhai tay upjai bhagat parabh antar ho-ay saaNt.
Out of the revered fear of God, His devotional worship wells up and celestial peace prevails in the mind.
Kutoka kwa hofu kwa heshima ya Mungu, ibada Yake ya ujitoaji inatokea na amani ya kimbingu inadumu akilini.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਾਂਤਿ ॥੧॥
naam japat govind kaa binsai bharam bharaaNt. ||1||
By meditating on God’s Name, all one’s doubts and delusions are dispelled. ||1||
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, shaka na madanganyo yote ya mtu yanaondolewa.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਪਰਵੇਸੁ ॥
gur pooraa jis bhayti-aa taa kai sukh parvays.
A person who meets with the perfect Guru and follows his teachings,is blessed with celestial peace in his mind.
Mtu anayekutana na Guru kamili na kufuata mafundisho yake, anabarikiwa na amani ya kimbingu akilini mwake.
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man kee mat ti-aagee-ai sunee-ai updays. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Therefore, we should cast off the intellect of our own mind, and listen to and follow the Guru’s teachings. ||1||Pause||
Hivyo basi, tunafaa kutokomeza uwekevu wa akili yetu wenyewe, na kusikiliza na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
simrat simrat simree-ai so purakh daataar.
We should always lovingly meditate on that beneficent and all pervading God.
Daima tunafaa kutafakari kwa upendo kuhusu Mungu huyo mwema na anayeenea kote.
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
man tay kabahu na veesrai so purakh apaar. ||2||
May that infinite God never be forgotten from our mind. ||2||
Kamwe Mungu huyo asiye na mwisho asiwahi kusahaulika kutoka kwa akili yetu.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
charan kamal si-o rang lagaa achraj gurdayv.
This is the wondrous greatness of the divine Guru that, through his grace, one gets imbued with the love of God’s immaculate Name.
Huu ndio ukuu wa ajabu wa Guru mtakatifu kwamba, kupitia kwa neema yake, mtu anapenyezwa na upendo wa Jina safi la Mungu.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਸੇਵ ॥੩॥
jaa ka-o kirpaa karahu parabh taa ka-o laavhu sayv. ||3||
O’ God! one on whom You bestow mercy, You engage that person to Your devotional worship. ||3||
Ee Mungu! Kwa yule ambaye unatawaza huruma, Wewe unahusisha mtu huyo na ibada Yako ya ujitoaji.
ਨਿਧਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਆਨੰਦ ॥
niDh niDhaan amrit pee-aa man tan aanand.
Whosoever has quaffed the ambrosial nectar of Naam, the treasure trove, his mind and heart always remain in a state of bliss.
Yeyote ambaye amekunywa nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam, ambayo ni hazina yenye thamani, akili na moyo wake daima upo katika hali ya raha tele.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ॥੪॥੨੪॥੫੪॥
naanak kabahu na veesrai parabh parmaanand. ||4||24||54||
O’ Nanak! God, the master of supreme bliss, may never be forsaken from the mind. ||4||24||54||
Ee Nanak! Mungu, bwana wa raha tele kuu, kamwe asiwahi kusahauliwa kutoka kwa akili.

tarisan bujhee mamtaa ga-ee naathay bhai bharmaa.
One whose yearning for worldly desires has disappeared, self conceit is gone and all the dreads and doubts are dispelled,
Yule ambaye tamaa yake ya hamu za kidunia imepotea, majivuno binafsi yamemwacha na hofu na shaka zote zimeondolewa,
ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਆਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੇ ਧਰਮਾ ॥੧॥
thit paa-ee aanad bha-i-aa gur keenay Dharmaa. ||1||
that person has attained spiritual stability and a state of bliss, because the Guru has kept his tradition. ||1||
mtu huyo ametimiza uthabiti wa kiroho na hali ya raha tele, kwa sababu Guru amedumisha desturi yake.
ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪੀਰ ॥
gur pooraa aaraaDhi-aa binsee mayree peer.
One who followed the perfect Guru’s teachings and remembered God with adoration, his anguish of self-conceit vanished.
Yule aliyefuata mafundisho ya Guru kamili na kukumbuka Mungu kwa ibada, maumivu yake ya majivuno binafsi yalipotea.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan man sabh seetal bha-i-aa paa-i-aa sukh beer. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ my brother, his body and mind became calm and he achieved spiritual peace. ||1||Pause||
Ee ndugu wangu, mwili wake na akili ilikuwa tulivu na alitimiza amani ya kiroho. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸੋਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਪੇਖਿਆ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥
sovat har jap jaagi-aa paykhi-aa bismaad.
One who meditated on God’s Name and woke up from the slumber of spiritual ignorance, has visioned the astounding sight of God.
Yule aliyetafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu na kuamka kutoka kwa usingizi wa ujinga wa kiroho, ameona mwono unaostaajabisha wa Mungu.
ਪੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਿਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਸੁਆਦੁ ॥੨॥
pee amrit tariptaasi-aa taa kaa achraj su-aad. ||2||
Upon drinking the ambrosial nectar of Naam, his mind became satiated from Maya; wondrous is the taste of this ambrosial nectar of Naam! ||2||
Alipokunywa nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam, akili yake ilitoshelezwa kutoka kwa Maya; cha ajabu ni kionjo cha nekta hii ya ambrosia ya Naam!
ਆਪਿ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਤਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥
aap mukat sangee taray kul kutamb uDhaaray.
One (who follows the Guru’s teachings), he along with his (spiritual) companions, family and lineage, becomes liberated from the worldly bonds.
Yule (anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru), yeye pamoja na wendani wake (wa kiroho), familia na uzao wake, wanakombolewa kutoka kwa vifungo vya kidunia.
ਸਫਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
safal sayvaa gurdayv kee nirmal darbaaray. ||3||
He successfully follows the divine Guru’s teachings, and he is adjudged immaculate in God’s presence) ||3||
Yeye anafuata mafundisho ya Guru mtakatifu kikamili, na anahukumiwa kuwa mtakatifu mbele ya Mungu.
ਨੀਚੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਅਜਾਨੁ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਗੁਣਹੀਨੁ ॥
neech anaath ajaan mai nirgun gunheen.
I was a lowly, support less, and ignorant person without any virtues.
Mimi nilikuwa mtu wa hali ya chini, asiye na tegemezo na mjinga asiye na fadhila zozote.
