ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੪॥
kar kirpaa mohi saaDhsang deejai. ||4||
and kindly bless me with the company of the saintly people. ||4||
na kwa wema wako unibariki na uandamano wa watu watakatifu.
ਤਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਹੋਈਐ ਰੇਨਾ ॥
ta-o kichh paa-ee-ai ja-o ho-ee-ai raynaa.
We can receive something worthwhile in the company of saints, only when we become humble like the dust of the feet of the saintly persons.
Sisi tunaweza kupokea kitu chenye maana katika uandamano wa watakatifu, wakati tu tunakuwa wanyenyekevu kama mchanga wa miguu ya watu watakatifu.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥੨॥੮॥
jisahi bujha-ay tis naam lainaa. ||1|| rahaa-o. ||2||8||
That person alone remembers God’s Name whom He blesses with this understanding. ||1||Pause||2||8||
Mtu huyo peke yake anakumbuka Jina la Mungu ambaye Yeye anabariki na uelewa huu. ||1||Sitisha||||2||8||

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ghar meh thaakur nadar na aavai.
(A faithless cynic) does not realize God dwelling in his heart,
(Mbeuzi asiye na imani) hagundui Mungu anayeishi moyoni mwake,
ਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਲਟਕਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
gal meh paahan lai latkaavai. ||1||
instead, he goes around with a stone idol around his neck. ||1||
badala yake, anaenda kote na sanamu ya jiwe shingoni pake.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਤਾ ॥
bharmay bhoolaa saakat firtaa.
The faithless cynic wanders around, deluded by doubt.
Mbeuzi asiye na imani anazurura kote, akidanganywa kwa shaka.
ਨੀਰੁ ਬਿਰੋਲੈ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮਰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
neer birolai khap khap martaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
(By performing idol worship), he is doing nothing but churning water and by doing so he endures spiritual deterioration. ||1||Pause||
(Kwa kuabudu sanamu), anachofanya ni kusukasuka maji na kwa kufanya hivyo anavumilia kuzorota kiroho. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਹਣ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਹਤਾ ॥
jis paahan ka-o thaakur kahtaa.
The stone, which he calls god,
Jiwe, ambalo analiita mungu,
ਓਹੁ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਉਸ ਕਉ ਡੁਬਤਾ ॥੨॥
oh paahan lai us ka-o dubtaa. ||2||
that stone pulls him down spiritually and drowns him (in the worldly ocean of vices). ||2||
jiwe hilo linamvuta chini kiroho na kumzamisha (katika bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi).
ਗੁਨਹਗਾਰ ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ॥
gunahgaar loon haraamee.
O’ ungrateful sinner!
Ee mtenda dhambi usiye na shukrani!
ਪਾਹਣ ਨਾਵ ਨ ਪਾਰਗਿਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥
paahan naav na paargiramee. ||3||
A boat of stone (idol worship) cannot ferry you across this worldly ocean of vices. ||3||
Mashua ya mawe (kuabudu sanamu) hayawezi kukuvukisha bahari hii ya kidunia ya dhambi.
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
gur mil naanak thaakur jaataa.
O’ Nanak, one who has met the Guru and has realized God,
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye amekutana na Guru na amegundua Mungu,
ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥
jal thal mahee-al pooran biDhaataa. ||4||3||9||
he beholds that perfect Creator-God pervading the water, land and the sky-everywhere. ||4||3||9||
anatazama Muumba-Mungu huyo kamili akienea kwenye maji, ardhi na angani-kila mahali.

O’ my friend! how did you enjoy the company of the beloved God?
Ee rafiki wangu! Ulifurahia vipi uandamano wa Mungu mpendwa?
ਸਖੀ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਮੁਝਹਿ ਮਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੧॥
sakhee bataavhu mujheh matee ree. ||1||
O’ sister, please give me that understanding. ||1||
Ee dada, tafadhali nipe uelewa huo.
ਸੂਹਬ ਸੂਹਬ ਸੂਹਵੀ ॥
soohab soohab soohvee.
O’ my friend! (because of celestial peace) your face is glowing,
Ee rafiki wangu! (kwa sababu ya amani ya kimbingu) uso wako unang’aa,
ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
apnay pareetam kai rang ratee. ||1|| rahaa-og
and you are imbued with the love of your beloved-God. ||1||Pause||
na umepenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu wako mpendwa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਪਾਵ ਮਲੋਵਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਨੈਨ ਭਤੀਰੀ ॥
paav malova-o sang nain bhateeree.
I would serve you most humbly as if I were massaging your feet with my eye lashes.
Ningekutumikia kwa unyenyekevu mno kana kwamba ningekuwa ninakanda miguu yako kwa kope zangu.
ਜਹਾ ਪਠਾਵਹੁ ਜਾਂਉ ਤਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੨॥
jahaa pathaavhu jaaN-o tatee ree. ||2||
and wherever You send me, there I will go happily. ||2||
na popote ambapo Wewe unanituma, hapo ndipo nitakapokwenda kwa furaha.
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਦੇਉ ਜਤੀ ਰੀ ॥
jap tap sanjam day-o jatee ree.
I would let you have the credit of all my worships, penances, and austerities,
Nitakuacha uwe na sifa ya ibada, toba na nidhamu zangu zote,
ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੩॥
ik nimakh milaavhu mohi paraanpatee ree. ||3||
if even for a moment, you make it possible for me to meet God, the Master of my life.
Iwapo hata kwa muda mfupi, uniwezeshe kukutana na Mungu, Bwana wa maisha yangu.
ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਹਤੀ ਰੀ ॥ ਸਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਹਾਗਵਤੀ ਰੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੦॥
maan taan ahaN-buDh hatee ree. saa naanak sohaagvatee ree. ||4||4||10||
O’ Nanak! the soul-bride who eradicates her self-conceit, power and arrogant intellect, becomes truly fortunate. ||4||4||10||
Ee Nanak! Roho-bi harusi anayetokomeza majivuno yake binafsi, nguvu na uwekevu wenye kiburi, kwa kweli anakuwa mwenye bahati nzuri.

O’ God! You are my life. You are the very support of my breath.
Ee Mungu! Wewe ndiwe uhai wangu, Wewe ndiwe tegemezo yenyewe ya pumzi yangu.
ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
tujh hee paykh paykh man saaDhaaraa. ||1||
Beholding You, my mind is comforted. ||1||
Nikikutazama Wewe, akili yangu inafarijiwa.
ਤੂੰ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
tooN saajan tooN pareetam mayraa.
O’ God! You are my friend, You are my beloved,
Ee Mungu! Wewe ni rafiki wangu, Wewe ni mpendwa wangu,
ਚਿਤਹਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਹਿ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chiteh na bisrahi kaahoo bayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and at no time, You are forsaken from my mind. ||1||Pause||
na hakuna wakati, ambapo Wewe umetoka kwa akili yangu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਬੈ ਖਰੀਦੁ ਹਉ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
bai khareed ha-o daasro tayraa.
O’ God, I am Your purchased servant;
Ee Mungu, mimi ni mtumishi wako aliyenunuliwa;
ਤੂੰ ਭਾਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
tooN bhaaro thaakur gunee gahayraa. ||2||
You are my great Master, You are like a deep ocean full of virtues. ||2||
Wewe ndiwe Bwana wangu mkuu, Wewe ni kama bahari yenye kina iliyojawa na fadhila.
ਕੋਟਿ ਦਾਸ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥
kot daas jaa kai darbaaray.
(O’ brother, God is like a sovereign king) in whose court are millions of servants,
(Ee ndugu, Mungu ni kama mfalme mwenye enzi kuu) ambaye kuna mamilioni ya watumishi katika mahakama yake,
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਨਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
nimakh nimakh vasai tinH naalay. ||3||
and He abides with them at every moment. ||3||
na Yeye anaishi nao kila wakati.
ਹਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥
ha-o kichh naahee sabh kichh tayraa.
O’ God! I am nothing; everything (within me or mine) is actually a gift from You.
Ee Mungu! Mimi ni bure; kila kitu (ndani mwangu na kilicho changu) kwa uhakika ni thawabu kutoka kwako.
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੧॥
ot pot naanak sang basayraa. ||4||5||11||
O’ Nanak! say, O’ God! You are with me through and through. ||4||5||11||
Ee Nanak! Sema, Ee Mungu! Wewe upo nami kila wakati.

ਸੂਖ ਮਹਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਊਚ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥
sookh mahal jaa kay ooch du-aaray.
O’ brother, God’s s spiritual state is so high and blissful that not everyone can reach there,
Ee ndugu, hali ya kiroho ya Mungu ni wa juu mno na wenye raha tele mno hadi siyo kila mtu anayeweza kufika hapo,
ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਭਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥
taa meh vaaseh bhagat pi-aaray. ||1||
there (in such high spiritual state) reside, only His beloved devotees. ||1||
hapo (katika hali ya juu ya kiroho kama hiyo) mnaishi, watawa wake wapendwa tu.
ਸਹਜ ਕਥਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਅਤਿ ਮੀਠੀ ॥
sahj kathaa parabh kee at meethee.
Extremely peaceful and sweet are the praises of God that evolve spiritual bliss;
Yenye amani iliyokithiri na tamu ni sifa za Mungu zinazoleta raha tele ya kiroho;
ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਹੁ ਡੀਠੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
virlai kaahoo naytarahu deethee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but it is a rare person who has enjoyed such an experience. ||1||Pause||
lakini ni mtu nadra ambaye amefurahia hisi kama hiyo. ||1||Sitisha||
ਤਹ ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਅਖਾਰੇ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
tah geet naad akhaaray sangaa.
There in the arena of the saintly congregation, songs of God are sung and divine music is played.
Hapo katika ulingo wa ushirika mtakatifu, nyimbo za Mungu zinaimbwa na muziki takatifu inachezwa.
ਊਹਾ ਸੰਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੨॥
oohaa sant karahi har rangaa. ||2||
In such state, saints enjoy the loving company of God. ||2||
Katika hali kama hiyo, watakatifu wanafurahia uandamano wa upendo wa Mungu.
ਤਹ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਹਰਖਾ ॥
tah maran na jeevan sog na harkhaa.
In that state, there is no such thing as birth and death, or happiness and sorrow.
Katika hali hiyo, hakuna kitu kama kuzaliwa na kufa, au furaha na huzuni.
ਸਾਚ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵਰਖਾ ॥੩॥
saach naam kee amrit varkhaa. ||3||
In that state, rains the ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||3||
Katika hali hiyo, kunanyesha nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam.
ਗੁਹਜ ਕਥਾ ਇਹ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੀ ॥
guhaj kathaa ih gur tay jaanee.
I have learnt this mystery of singing God’s praises from the Guru.
Nimejifunza fumbo hili la kuimba sifa za Mungu kutoka kwa Guru.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੨॥
nanak bolai har har baani||4||6||12||
Nanak always recites the divine words of God’s praises. ||4||6||12||
Nanak daima anakariri maneno takatifu ya sifa za Mungu.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਦਰਸਿ ਪਾਪ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
jaa kai daras paap kot utaaray.
Those saints in whose precious company, millions of sins are washed off,
Watakatifu hao ambao katika uandamano wao wenye thamani, mamilioni ya dhambi yanasafishwa,
ਭੇਟਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਇਹੁ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
bhaytat sang ih bhavjal taaray. ||1||
and by keeping company with them, this terrifying world-ocean of vices is crossed over. ||1||
na kwa kuweka uandamano na wao, bahari-dunia hii inayoogofya inavukwa.
ਓਇ ਸਾਜਨ ਓਇ ਮੀਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
o-ay saajan o-ay meet pi-aaray.
O’ brother, those saintly persons are my well wishers and my best friends,
Ee ndugu, watu hao watakatifu ndio watakia-mema wangu na marafiki wangu wa dhati.
ਜੋ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo ham ka-o har naam chitaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who inspire me to meditate on Naam. ||1||Pause||
wanaonihamasisha kutafakari kuhusu Naam. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
jaa kaa sabad sunat sukh saaray.
Those (saints) by listening to whose words, one receives celestial peace,
Wale (watakatifu) ambao kwa kusikiliza maneno yao, mtu anapokea amani ya kimbingu,
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
jaa kee tahal jamdoot bidaaray. ||2||
and by serving them, even the demons of death are driven away (fear of death vanishes). ||2||
Na kwa kuwatumikia, hata mapepo wa kifo wanatokomezwa (uoga wa kifo unapotea)
ਜਾ ਕੀ ਧੀਰਕ ਇਸੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਧਾਰੇ ॥
jaa kee Dheerak is maneh saDhaaray.
Consolation from those saintly friends provides support and peace to my mind,
Faraja kutoka kwa hao marafiki watakatifu inatoa tegemezo na amani kwa akili yangu.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
jaa kai simran mukh ujlaaray. ||3||
and meditation on Naam in their company brings honor (here and hereafter). ||3||
na kutafakari kuhusu Naam katika uandamano wao kunaleta staha (humu na akhera).
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
parabh kay sayvak parabh aap savaaray.
God Himself has embellished His devotees..
Mungu Mwenyewe amepamba watawa wake.
ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੩॥
saran naanak tinH sad balihaaray. ||4||7||13||
O’ Nanak! one should seek their refuge and remain dedicated to themforever. ||4||7||13||
Ee Nanak! Mtu anafaa kutafuta kimbilio chao na kubaki amewekwa wakfu kwao milele.
