ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੰਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਕਿ ਕਰੇਗੁ ਅਗੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jichar vich damm hai tichar na chayt-ee ke karayg agai jaa-ay.
As long as there is breath in the body, one does not remember God; what will be his plight in the world hereafter?
Ili mradi kuna pumzi mwilini, mtu hakumbuki Mungu; ni ipi itakuwa hali yake katika dunia itakayofuata?
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਚੇਤੰਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
gi-aanee ho-ay so chaytann ho-ay agi-aanee anDh kamaa-ay.
One who is wise remains alert to the consequences of one’s deeds, but the un-wise person keeps indulging in deeds without thinking.
Yule ambaye ana hekima anabaki ametahadhari dhidi ya matokeo ya vitendo vyake, lakini mtu asiye na busara anaendelea kujihusisha katika vitendo bila kufikiria.
ਨਾਨਕ ਏਥੈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਅਗੈ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
naanak aythai kamaavai so milai agai paa-ay jaa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, whatever one does in this world determines what he would receive in the world hereafter. ||1||

He firmly believes that the Giver of all gifts lives forever.
Anaamini kwa uthabiti ya kwamba Mpaji wa tuzo zote anaishi milele.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੨੧॥
naanak har naamay lagai pi-aar. ||4||1||21||
O’ Nanak, he is imbued with the love of God’s Name.||4||1||21||

Rare is the one who seeks divine wisdom from the Guru.
Nadra sana ni yule anayetafuta hekima takatifu kutoka kwa Guru.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੀਝੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
gur tay boojhai seejhai so-ay.
The one who acquires divine wisdom from the Guru succeeds spiritually in life.
Yule anayepata hekima takatifu kutoka kwa Guru anafanikiwa kiroho maishani.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur tay sahj saach beechaar.
From the Guru, he intuitively receives understanding about the virtues of God.
Kutoka kwa Guru, anapokea uelewa kwa utaratibu kuhusu fadhila za Mungu.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥
gur tay paa-ay mukat du-aar. ||1||
From the Guru he learns the way to escape from the vices. ||1||

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ॥
poorai bhaag milai gur aa-ay.
Through perfect good fortune, the one who meets the Guru,
Kupitia bahati nzuri kamili, yule anayekutana na Guru,
ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saachai sahj saach samaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
intuitively merges in the eternal God. ||1||Pause||
kwa utaratibu anaungana na Mungu wa milele. ||1||Sitisha||
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
gur mili-ai tarisnaa agan bujhaa-ay.
Meeting the Guru, the fire of desire of Maya is quenched.
Kwa kukutana na Guru, moto wa tamaa ya Maya unazimwa.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਏ ॥
gur tay saaNt vasai man aa-ay.
Through the Guru, tranquility comes to dwell within the mind.
Kupitia kwa Guru, utulivu unakuja kuishi ndani mwa akili.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਵਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਸੁਚਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur tay pavit paavan such ho-ay.
Spiritual purity and righteous conduct is received from the Guru.
Usafi wa kiroho na kutenda kwa haki kunapokelewa kutoka kwa Guru.
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
gur tay sabad milaavaa ho-ay. ||2||
Union with God takes place through the Guru’s word. ||2||
Muungano na Mungu unafanyika kupitia neno la Guru.
ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
baajh guroo sabh bharam bhulaa-ee.
Without the Guru, everyone wanders in doubt.
Bila Guru, kila mtu anazurura katika shaka.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
bin naavai bahutaa dukh paa-ee.
Without meditating on God’s Name, they suffer in terrible pain.
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, wanateseka katika uchungu uliokithiri.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
gurmukh hovai so naam Dhi-aa-ee.
One who meditates on Naam by following the Guru’s teachings,
Yule anayetafakari kuhusu Naam kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru,
ਦਰਸਨਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
darsan sachai sachee pat ho-ee. ||3||
receives true honor of experiencing the presence of the eternal God ||3||
anapokea fursa halisi ya kuhisi uwepo wa Mungu wa milele.
ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਦਾਤਾ ਇਕੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
kis no kahee-ai daataa ik so-ee.
When God is the only Giver, then why ask anyone else?
Wakati Mungu ndiye Mpaji wa pekee, basi mbona uulize yeyote mwengine?
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
kirpaa karay sabad milaavaa ho-ee.
He, on whom God bestows mercy, unites with Him through the Guru’s word.
Yeye, ambaye Mungu anatawaza huruma yake kwake, anaungana naye kupitia neno la Guru.
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥
mil pareetam saachay gun gaavaa.
By meeting my beloved Guru, I keep singing the praises of the eternal God,
Kwa kukutana na Guru wangu mpendwa, naendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu wa milele,
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ॥੪॥੨॥੨੨॥
naanak saachay saach samaavaa. ||4||2||22||
and forever merge in the eternal God, prays Nanak. ||4||2||22||
na daima naungana na Mungu wa milele, anaomba Nanak,

ਸੁ ਥਾਉ ਸਚੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
so thaa-o sach man nirmal ho-ay.
That congregation is truly the right place where one’s mind becomes immaculate.
Kwa kweli ushirika huo ni pahali pazuri ambapo akili ya mtu inakuwa safi.
ਸਚਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
sach nivaas karay sach so-ay.
There, one’s mind is attuned to the eternal God and by virtue of the holy congregation, he becomes the embodiment of the eternal God.
Hapo, akili ya mtu inamakinikia Mungu wa milele na kwa ajili ya ushirika takatifu, anakuwa udhihirisho wa kimwili wa Mungu wa milele.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
sachee banee jug chaaray jaapai.
By virtue of the divine word, one becomes known through all the ages.
Kwa ajili ya neno takatifu, mtu anakuwa maarufu kupitia enzi zote.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੈ ॥੧॥
sabh kichh saachaa aapay aapai. ||1||
He realizes that the eternal God is everything, all by Himself. ||1||
Anagundua ya kwamba Mungu wa milele ni kila kitu, Yeye mwenyewe.
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
karam hovai satsang milaa-ay.
Upon whom God bestows mercy, He unites that person with the holy congregation.
Kwa yule ambaye Mungu anatawaza huruma, Yeye anaunganisha mtu huyo na ushirika takatifu.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁ ਥਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har gun gaavai bais so thaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Sitting in that company, such a person sings God’s praises.||1||Pause||
Akiketi katika uandamano huo, mtu kama huyo anaimba sifa za Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਲਉ ਇਹ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
jala-o ih jihvaa doojai bhaa-ay.
May this tongue burn, which is in love with worldly astes rather than God.
Naomba ulimi huu uchomeke, ambao unapendezwa na vionjo vya kidunia badala ya Mungu.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਚਾਖੈ ਫੀਕਾ ਆਲਾਇ ॥
har ras na chaakhai feekaa aalaa-ay.
Such a tongue does not taste the elixir of God’s Name, and utters insipid words.
Ulimi kama huo hauonji dawa ya Jina la Mungu, na unatamka maneno yenye ujinga.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
bin boojhay tan man feekaa ho-ay.
Without realizing God, one’s body and mind become insipid.
Bila kumgundua Mungu, mwili na akili ya mtu inakuwa mjinga.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਚਲਿਆ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
bin naavai dukhee-aa chali-aa ro-ay. ||2||
Without meditating on Naam, the miserable one departs bewailing. ||2||
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam, mtu aliyetaabika anaondoka akiomboleza.
ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
rasnaa har ras chaakhi-aa sahj subhaa-ay.
One whose tongue has intuitively tasted the elixir of God’s Name,
Yule ambaye ulimi yake kwa utaratibu umeonja dawa ya Jina la Mungu,
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
gur kirpaa tay sach samaa-ay.
by the Guru’s grace remains merged in the praises of God.
Kwa neema ya Guru anabaki ameunganishwa katika sifa za Mungu.
ਸਾਚੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
saachay raatee gur sabad veechaar.
The tongue which reflects on the Guru’s word and is imbued with the love for God,
Ulimi unaotafakari kuhusu neno la Guru na umejawa na upendo kwa Mungu,
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਾਰ ॥੩॥
amrit peevai nirmal Dhaar. ||3||
it drinks from the immaculate stream of nectar of Naam. ||3||
unakunywa kutoka kwa chemichemi safi ya nekta ya Naam.
ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਭਾਡਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam samaavai jo bhaadaa ho-ay.
The heart which has become pure by the Guru’s grace remains attuned to Naam.
Moyo ambao umekuwa safi kwa neema ya Guru unabaki umemakinikia Naam.
ਊਂਧੈ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਟਿਕੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ooNDhai bhaaNdai tikai na ko-ay.
No virtue can enter in the heart which is turned away from God.
Hakuna fadhila inaweza kuingia moyo ambao umemgeuka kutoka kwa Mungu.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
gur sabdee man naam nivaas.
Only through the Guru’s word, Naam dwells within the mind.
Ni kupitia neno la Guru pekee, ambapo Naam inaishi ndani mwa akili.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਬਦ ਪਿਆਸ ॥੪॥੩॥੨੩॥
naanak sach bhaaNdaa jis sabad pi-aas. ||4||3||23||
O Nanak, true is that mind which longs for the Guru’s word. ||4||3||23||

ਇਕਿ ਗਾਵਤ ਰਹੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
ik gaavat rahay man saad na paa-ay.
Some keep singing devotional songs, but their minds do not find true delight.
Wengine wanaendelea kuimba nyimbo za ibada, lakini akili zao hazipati furaha halisi.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
ha-umai vich gaavahi birthaa jaa-ay.
They sing out of ego, and all their effort goes waste.
Wanaimba kutokana na ubinafsi, na jitihada zao zote zinaenda bure.
ਗਾਵਣਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gaavan gaavahi jin naam pi-aar.
Only those sing songs of God’s praise who are in love with His Name,
Ni wale tu wanaimna nyimbo za sifa za Mungu ambao wanapendezwa na Jina lake.
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
saachee banee sabad beechaar. ||1||
and reflect on the Guru’s divine word. ||1||
na kutafakari kuhusu neno takatifu la Guru.
ਗਾਵਤ ਰਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
gaavat rahai jay satgur bhaavai.
If it so pleases the true Guru,then one keeps singing God’s praises.
Iwapo itapendeza Guru wa kweli, basi mtu anaendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man tan raataa naam suhaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The mind and body are then imbued with God’s Name, and his life becomes embellished ||1||Pause||
Na wakati huo akili na mwili unavama katika Jina la Mungu, na maisha yake yanapambwa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਇਕਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇਹਿ ॥
ik gaavahi ik bhagat karayhi.
There are some who sing and perform devotional worship.
Kuna wengine wanaoimba na kutenda ibada ya kujitolea.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਸਨੇਹ ॥
naam na paavahi bin asnayh.
Without the true love for God, they are not blessed with Naam .
Bila upendo halisi kwa Mungu, hawabarikiwi na Naam.
ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
sachee bhagat gur sabad pi-aar.
The worship of those devotees is true who are imbued with love for the Guru’s word,
Ibada ya watawa hao ni halisi ambao wamejawa na upendo wa neno la Guru.
ਅਪਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
apnaa pir raakhi-aa sadaa ur Dhaar. ||2||
and they have always kept their Master-God enshrined in their mind. ||2||
na daima wameweka Bwana-Mungu wao vizuri akilini mwao.
