ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
jo man raatay har rang laa-ay.
Those whose minds are imbued with God’s Love,
Wale ambao akili zao zimejawa na Upendo wa Mungu,

ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tin kaa janam maran dukh lathaa tay har dargeh milay subhaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
their pain of birth and death goes away and they effortlessly r God’s court. ||1||Pause||
uchungu wao wa kuzaliwa na kufa unapotea na kwa urahisi wanafikia mahakama ya Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸਬਦੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
sabad chaakhai saachaa saad paa-ay.
one who relishes the essence of the Guru’s word enjoys everlasting bliss.
Yule anayefurahia kiini cha neno la Guru anafurahia raha tele inayodumu milele.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
har kaa naam man vasaa-ay.
He enshrines God’s Name within the mind,
Yeye anathamini Jina la Mungu akilini mwake,

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
har parabh sadaa rahi-aa bharpoor.
and realizes that God is always pervading everywhere.
Na anagundua kwamba Mungu daima anaenea kote.

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥
aapay nayrhai aapay door. ||2||
He Himself is near and He Himself is far away from His creation. ||2||
Yeye Mwenyewe yu karibu na Yeye Mwenyewe yu mbali kutoka uumbaji wake.

ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖੈ ਬਕੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
aakhan aakhai bakai sabh ko-ay.
As for saying and boasting about God, everyone says that God is near,
Kwa minajili ya kusema na kujigamba kuhusu Mungu, kila mtu anasema kwamba Mungu yu karibu,

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
aapay bakhas milaa-ay so-ay.
but it is God who in His grace unites one with Himself.
Lakini ni Mungu ambaye kwa neema yake anaunganisha mtu naye Mwenyewe.

ਕਹਣੈ ਕਥਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
kahnai kathan na paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
God is not realized by merely speaking and talking about Him.
Mungu hagunduliwi kwa kuzungumza tu kuhusu Yeye.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥
gur parsaad vasai man aa-ay. ||3||
God’s presence in the heart is realized by the Guru’s Grace, . ||3||
Uwepo wa Mungu moyoni unagunduliwa kwa Neema ya Guru,

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
gurmukh vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
The Guru’s follower eradicates his self-conceit from within,
Mfuasi wa Guru anaondoa majivuno yake binafsi kutoka ndani mwake,

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥
har rang raatay moh chukaa-ay.
and imbued with God’s love, he gets rid of worldly attachment.
Na akijawa na upendo wa Mungu, anaondoa kiambatisho chake cha kidunia.

ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
at nirmal gur sabad veechaar.
Reflection on the Guru’s words makes him a person of extremely immaculate character.
Kutafakari kuhusu maneno ya Guru kunamfanya mtu wa tabia nzuri sana.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੪॥੪੩॥
naanak naam savaaranhaar.||4||4||43|
O’ Nanak, attuned to Naam, he becomes capable of spiritually embellishing the life others too. ||4||4||43||
Ee Nanak, akimakinikia Naam, anakuwa na uwezo wa kupamba kiroho maisha ya wengine.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 3.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay lagay dukh paa-i-aa.
They who forsake God for someone else’s love, incur nothing but misery.
Wale wanaoacha Mungu kwa mapenzi ya mtu mwengine, hawapati chochote ila taabu.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
bin sabdai birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa.
Without reflecting on the Guru’s word, they waste their life in vain.
Bila kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru, wanaharibu maisha yao bure.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
satgur sayvai sojhee ho-ay.
The one who follows the true Guru’s teachings, attains true understanding about the purpose of human life,
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru, anapata uelewa halisi kuhusu kusudi la maisha ya binadamu,

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
doojai bhaa-ay na laagai ko-ay. ||1||
then he does not get attached to worldly love. ||1||
kisha haambatishwi kwa upendo wa kidunia.

ਮੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
mool laagay say jan parvaan.
Those who always remember God are approved in His court.
Wale ambao daima wanamkumbuka Mungu wanaidhinishwa katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
an-din raam naam jap hirdai gur sabdee har ayko jaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, always meditate on God’s Name in your heart and realize God. ||1||Pause||
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru, daima anatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu moyoni mwako na ugundue Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
daalee laagai nihfal jaa-ay.
God is like a tree, the effort of the one who forsakes the tree (God) and attaches to the branches (worldly riches) goes fruitless.
Mungu ni kama mti, jitihada ya mtu ambaye anaacha mti huo (Mungu) na kujiambatisha kwa majani (utajiri wa kidunia) anaenda bila matunda.

ਅੰਧੀ ਕੰਮੀ ਅੰਧ ਸਜਾਇ ॥
aNDheeN kammee anDh sajaa-ay.
By being involved in foolish deeds one suffers severe punishment.
Kwa kujihusisha kwa vitendo pumbavu mtu anateseka adhabu kali.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
manmukh anDhaa tha-ur na paa-ay.
Such a self-conceited person blinded in the love of Maya finds no break.
Mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi kama huyo katika upendo wa Maya hapati pumziko.

ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੨॥
bistaa kaa keerhaa bistaa maahi pachaa-ay. ||2||
He is consumed in the love of Maya, just as a maggot in manure. ||2||
Anamalizwa katika upendo wa Maya, kama vile funza katika samadi.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur kee sayvaa sadaa sukh paa-ay.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings always enjoys peace,
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru daima anafurahia amani,

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥
santsangat mil har gun gaa-ay.
because by joining the saintly persons, he sings the praises of God.
Kwa sababu kwa kujiunga na watu watakatifu, anaimba sifa za Mungu.

ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
naamay naam karay veechaar.
Attuned to God’s Name, he keeps reflecting on His virtues.
Akimakinikia Jina la Mungu, anaendelea kutafakari kuhusu fadhila zake.

ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
aap tarai kul uDhranhaar. ||3||
This way he himself swims across the worldly ocean of vices and becomes capable of saving his lineage also. ||3||
Kwa njia hiyo yeye mwenyewe anaogelea akivuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi na anakuwa na uwezo wa kuokoa kizazi chake pia.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
gur kee banee naam vajaa-ay.
The one who sings praises of God through the Guru’s word,
Yule anayeimba sifa za Mungu kupitia neno la Guru,

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
naanak mahal sabad ghar paa-ay.
O’ Nanak, through the Guru’s word he realizes God’s presence in his heart.
Ee Nanak, kupitia neno la Guru anagundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwake.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥
gurmat sat sar har jal naa-i-aa.
Following the Guru’s teachings, one who has taken a bath in the nectar of God’s Name (the pool of holy congregation)
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, mtu ambaye ameoga katika nekta ya Jina la Mungu (kidimbwi cha ushirika mtakatifu)

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥
durmat mail sabh durat gavaa-i-aa. ||4||5||44||
He has washed the dirt of evil intellect and has eradicated all his sin. ||4||5||44||
Amesafisha uchafu wa uwekevu muovu na ameondoa dhambi yake yote.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 3.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਹਿ ॥
manmukh mareh mar maran vigaarheh.
The self-conceited persons die a horrific death.
Watu wenye majivuno binafsi wanakufa kifo kibaya.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਆਤਮ ਸੰਘਾਰਹਿ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay aatam sanghaareh.
Because in the love of duality, they destroy their own spiritual life.
Kwa sababu katika upendo wa uwili, wanaangamiza maisha yao ya kiroho.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ॥
mayraa mayraa kar kar vigootaa.
He is ruined by constantly thinking this in my family, this is my wealth.
Yeye anaharibiwa kwa kufikiria mara kwa mara katika familia yangu, huu ndio utajiri wangu.

ਆਤਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਭਰਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥
aatam na cheenHai bharmai vich sootaa. ||1||
He doesn’t reflect on the self, wandering in doubt he remains unaware of his spiritual life. ||1||
Yeye hatafakari kuhusu nafsi yake, akizurura katika shaka anabaki hafahamu maisha yake ya kiroho.

ਮਰੁ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
mar mu-i-aa sabday mar jaa-ay.
One who remains detached from Maya by following the Guru’s teachings, dies a real peaceful death.
Yule anayebaki amejitenga kutoka Maya kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, anakufa kifo chenye amani.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮ ਜਾਣਾਈ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ustat nindaa gur sam jaanaa-ee is jug meh laahaa har jap lai jaa-ay. l੧l rahaa-o.
One whom the Guru has inspired to take his praise or slander as the same; he departs after earning the wealth of Naam by meditating on God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
Yule ambaye Guru amehamasisha kuchukulia sifa au kashfa kuwa sawa; anaondoka baada ya kuchuma utajiri wa Naam kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਗਰਭ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
naam vihoon garabh gal jaa-ay.
One who does not meditate on Naam, destroys his spiritual life by falling in the cycles of birth and death.
Yule ambaye hatafakari kuhusu Naam, anaangamiza maisha yake ya kiroho kwa kuanguka katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇ ॥
birthaa janam doojai lobhaa-ay.
His life goes waste because of the greed of things other than God.
Maisha yake yanaenda bure kwa sababu ya tamaa ya vitu mbali na Mungu.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥
naam bihoonee dukh jalai sabaa-ee.
Without meditating on Naam the entire world is suffering in misery.
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam dunia nzima inateseka katika taabu.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥
satgur poorai boojh bujhaa-ee. ||2||
The perfect true Guru has blessed me with this understanding. ||2||
Guru kamili wa kweli amenibariki na uelewa huu.

ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਹੁ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥
man chanchal baho chotaa khaa-ay.
The person whose mind keeps running after Maya, suffers many setbacks in life.
Mtu ambaye akili yake inaendelea kufukuza Maya, anateseka vipingamizi vingi maishani.

ਏਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
aythahu chhurhki-aa tha-ur na paa-ay.
Having lost this opportunity to meditate on God’s Name and reunite with Him, the soul does not find any place of rest.
Ikiwa imepoteza fursa ya kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu na kuungana tena na Yeye, roho haipati pahali pa kupumzika.

ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
garabh jon vistaa kaa vaas.
Remaining in the cycles of birth and death is like remaining in the store of filth,
Kubaki katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa ni kama kubaki katika ghala ya uchafu,

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥
tit ghar manmukh karay nivaas. ||3||
the self-willed person resides in such a place. ||3||
mtu mwenye hiari binafsi anaishi mahali kama hapo.

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
apunay satgur ka-o sadaa bal jaa-ee.
I am forever a sacrifice to my true Guru;
Milele mimi ni dhabihu kwa Guru wangu wa kweli;

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
gurmukh jotee jot milaa-ee.
The Guru unites the light of his follower with the divine light of God.
Guru anaunganisha mwanga wa mfuasi wake na mwanga mtakatifu wa Mungu.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
nirmal banee nij ghar vaasaa.
Through the Immaculate Word of the Guru, one dwells within his own inner self, which in fact is the abode of the beloved God.
Kupitia Neno Safi la Guru, mtu anaishi ndani mwa nafsi yake ya ndani, ambayo kwa uhakika ni makao ya Mungu mpendwa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥
naanak ha-umai maaray sadaa udaasaa. ||4||6||45||
O Nanak, he who conquers his ego, always remains detached from Maya.
Ee Nanak, yeye anayetawala ubinafsi wake, daima anabaki amejitenga kutoka Maya.

ਲਾਲੈ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥

A true devotee of God sheds the pride of his own social status.
Mtawa wa kweli wa Mungu anaondoa fahari ya hadhi yake yenyewe ya kijamii.
