ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਰੀਐ ਚਰਣ ਰੇਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਬਾਛੈ ॥੧॥
saaDhsangat kee sarnee paree-ai charan rayn man baachhai. ||1||
I should seek the refuge of holy congregation, my mind longs only for the humble service of the saints. ||1||
Ninafaa kutafuta kimbilio cha ushirika mtakatifu, akili yangu inatamani tu huduma nyenyekevu ya watakatifu.
ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਮਾਇ ਆਛੈ ॥
jugat na jaanaa gun nahee ko-ee mahaa dutar maa-ay aachhai.
I do not have any virtues nor I know how to swim across the worldly ocean of Maya, which is so difficult to cross.
Mimi sina fadhila zozote wala sijui jinsi ya kuogelea kuvuka bahari dunia ya Maya, ambayo ni ngumu sana kuvuka.
ਆਇ ਪਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਤਉ ਉਤਰੀ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਰਾਛੈ ॥੨॥੨॥੨੮॥
aa-ay pa-i-o naanak gur charnee ta-o utree sagal duraachhai. ||2||2||28||
O’ Nanak, I have followed the Guru’s teachings and all my evil desires have vanished. ||2||2||28||

O’ beloved God, the words of Your praises are spiritually rejuvenating.
Ee Mungu mpendwa, maneno ya sifa zako zinanisisimua kiroho.
ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਭਹੂ ਮਧਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
at sundar manmohan pi-aaray sabhhoo maDh niraaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ extremely beautiful, heart-captivating beloved God, You are amidst everyone and yet detached from everyone. ||1||Pause||
Ee Mungu mpendwa, mwenye uzuri uliokithiri, unayevutia moyo, Wewe upo miongoni mwa kila mtu na ila umejitenga kutoka kila mtu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਰਾਜੁ ਨ ਚਾਹਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਚਾਹਉ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲਾਰੇ ॥
raaj na chaaha-o mukat na chaaha-o man pareet charan kamlaaray.
I do not seek kingdom, nor I seek liberation fromthe cycles of birth and death; all my mind longs for is the love of Your immaculate Name.
Mimi sitafuti ufalme, wala sitafuti ukombozi kutoka mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa; kile ambacho akili yangu inatamani ni Jina lako safi.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਹੇਸ ਸਿਧ ਮੁਨਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਦਰਸਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
barahm mahays siDh mun indraa mohi thaakur hee darsaaray. ||1||
Others may long for the sight of deities like Brahma, Shiva, Indira, or sages, and sidhas, but I only seek the blessed vision of my Master-God.||1||
Wengine wanaweza kutamani mwono wa miungu kama Brahma, Shiva, Indra, au wajuzi, na sidhas, lakini mimi natafuta tu mwono uliobarikiwa wa Bwana-Mungu wangu.
ਦੀਨੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਇਓ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਸੰਤ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
deen du-aarai aa-i-o thaakur saran pari-o sant haaray.
O’ my Master-God: I, the helpless and exhausted one, have come to the refuge of Your saints.
Ee Bwana-Mungu wangu: mimi, mwenye unyonge na uchovu, nimekuja kwa kimbilio cha watakatifu wako.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲੇ ਮਨੋਹਰ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲ ਬਿਗਸਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੩॥੨੯॥
kaho naanak parabh milay manohar man seetal bigsaaray. ||2||3||29||
Nanak says, I have realized the heart captivating God and my mind is cooled and delighted. ||2||3||29||

har jap sayvak paar utaari-o.
By remembering God, a devotee is helped to cross over the world-ocean of vices.
Kwa kumkumbuka Mungu, mtawa anasaidiwa kuvuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi.
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
deen da-i-aal bha-ay parabh apnay bahurh janam nahee maari-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The merciful God becomes that devotee’s own and He does not subject that devotee to the cycles of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
Mungu mwenye huruma anakuwa wa mtawa huyo na Yeye hatiishi mtawa huyo kwa mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਰਿਓ ॥
saaDhsangam gun gaavah har kay ratan janam nahee haari-o.
He sings praises of God in the company of the saints, and this way does not waste this jewel like precious human life.
Yeye anaimba sifa za Mungu katika uandamano wa watakatifu, na kwa njia hii haharibu maisha ya kibinadamu yenye thamani kama kito.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਨੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲਹ ਸਮੂਹ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ॥੧॥
parabh gun gaa-ay bikhai ban tari-aa kulah samooh uDhaari-o. ||1||
By singing praises of God, he swims across this poisonous worldly ocean and even saves all his generations as well.
Kwa kuimba sifa za Mungu, anaogelea akivuka bahari ya kidunia yenye sumu na hata anaokoa vizazi vyake pia.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਬਸਿਆ ਰਿਦ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਉਚਾਰਿਓ ॥
charan kamal basi-aa rid bheetar saas giraas uchaari-o.
God’s immaculate Name remains enshrined within his heart and he recites Naam with every breath and morsel of food.
Jina safi la Mungu linabaki limethaminiwa moyoni mwake na anakariri Naam kwa kila pumzi na kipande cha chakula.
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪੁਨਹ ਪੁਨਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥੪॥੩੦॥
naanak ot gahee jagdeesur punah punah balihaari-o. ||2||4||30||
O’ Nanak, he has grasped on to the support of the Master of the universe and I am dedicated to such a devotee again and again.||2||4||30||

ਕਰਤ ਫਿਰੇ ਬਨ ਭੇਖ ਮੋਹਨ ਰਹਤ ਨਿਰਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
karat firay ban bhaykh mohan rahat niraar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Those who keep roaming in jungles in holy garbs, the fascinating God remains aloof from them. ||1||Pause||
Wale wanaoendelea kuzurura nyikani katika mavazi takatifu, Mungu anayevutiwa
ਕਥਨ ਸੁਨਾਵਨ ਗੀਤ ਨੀਕੇ ਗਾਵਨ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਤੇ ਗਾਰ ॥੧॥
kathan sunaavan geet neekay gaavan man meh Dhartay gaar. ||1||
They discourse, preach and sing melodious songs, but their minds are filled with the filth of arrogance, and evil intentions.||1||
Wanatoa hotuba, kuhubiri na kuimba nyimbo nzuri, lakini akili zao zimejawa na uchafu wa kiburi, na nia mbaya.
ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਹੁ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਨੇ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਚਾਰ ॥੨॥
at sundar baho chatur si-aanay bidi-aa rasnaa chaar. ||2||
Because of their education, they may speak very sweetly, may appear very beautiful, extremely clever and wise.||2||
Kwa sababu ya elimu yao, wanaweza kuzungumza vitam,u sana, wanaweza kuonekana wazuri mno, wenye uwerevu na hekima iliyokithiri.
ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਬਿਬਰਜਿਤ ਏਹੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਖੰਡੇ ਧਾਰ ॥੩॥
maan moh mayr tayr bibarjit ayhu maarag khanday Dhaar. ||3||
To remain unaffected by pride, emotional attachment and the sense of ‘mine and yours’ is very difficult; it is like walking on the edge of a sword. ||3||
Kubaki huathiriwi na fahari, kiambatisho cha kihisia na hisi ya ‘yangu na yako’ ni ngumu sana; ni kama kutembea kwenye ncha ya upanga.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਅਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਰ ॥੪॥੧॥੩੧॥
kaho naanak tin bhavjal taree-alay parabh kirpaa sant sangaar. ||4||1||31||
Nanak says, he alone is able to swim across the terrifying world-ocean of vices, who by God’s grace joins the company of saints. ||4||1||31||
Nanak anasema, yeye peke yake anaweza kuogelea akivuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi inayoogofya, ambaye kwa neema ya Mungu anajiunga na uandamano wa watakatifu.

O’ my friends, I have seen the most captivating God, who is the highest of all.
Ee marafiki wangu, nimeona Mungu anayevutia zaidi, ambaye ni wa juu zaidi kwa wote.
ਆਨ ਨ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਕੋਊ ਲਾਗੈ ਢੂਢਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਮ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan na samsar ko-oo laagai dhoodh rahay ham moochaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
No one else is equal to Him, I have made the most extensive search. |1||Pause|
Hakuna mtu aliye sawa na Yeye, nimefanya utafuta wa kadiri kubwa zaidi. ||1||Sitisha||
ਬਹੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਬਡੋ ਗਾਹਰੋ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਅਗਹੂਚਾ ॥
baho bay-ant at bado gaahro thaah nahee aghoochaa.
He is extremely infinite, exceedingly great, unfathomable and is beyond reach.
Yeye hana mwisho, ni mkuu zaidi, hawezi kufahamika na hawezi kufikiwa.
ਤੋਲਿ ਨ ਤੁਲੀਐ ਮੋਲਿ ਨ ਮੁਲੀਐ ਕਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨ ਰੂਚਾ ॥੧॥
tol na tulee-ai mol na mulee-ai kat paa-ee-ai man roochaa. ||1||
His worth cannot be estimated and He is priceless; we do not know how can we realize such a heart-captivating God?||1||
Thamani yake haiwezi kukadiriwa na Yeye ana thamani ya juu zaidi; hatujui jinsi tunaweza kugundua Mungu anayevutia moyo kama huyo?
ਖੋਜ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਤਪੰਥਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਹੀ ਪਹੂਚਾ ॥
khoj asankhaa anik tapanthaa bin gur nahee pahoochaa.
we may launch countless searches, may do innumerable penances, but without the Guru’s teachings, no one has ever realized him.
Tunaweza kuanzisha kutafuta kusikohesabika, tunaweza kufanya toba zisizohesabika, lakini bila mafundisho ya Guru, hakuna mtu amewahi kumgundua Yeye.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਸ ਭੂੰਚਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੨॥
kaho naanak kirpaa karee thaakur mil saaDhoo ras bhoonchaa. ||2||1||32||
Nanak says, he on whom the Master has shown His mercy, enjoys the sublime essence of Naam by meeting the Guru and following his teachings. ||2||1||32||
Nanak anasema, yule ambaye Bwana ameonyesha huruma yake, anafurahia kiini tukufu cha Naam kwa kukutana na Guru na kufuata mafundisho yake.
