ਅਉਖਧ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਤੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
a-ukhaDh mantar tant sabh chhaar.
In comparison to Naam, all medicines, spells and charms are as useless as dust.
Kwa kulinganishwa na Naam, dawa zote, ulozi na hirizi ni bure kama mchanga.
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
karnaihaar riday meh Dhaar. ||3||
Enshrine the Creator God within your heart. ||3||
Thamini Muumba Mungu ndani mwa moyo wako.
ਤਜਿ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮ ਭਜਿਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
taj sabh bharam bhaji-o paarbarahm.
Renouncing all other doubts, one who has meditated on God,
Akikana shaka zote nyingine, yule ambaye ametafakari kuhusu Mungu,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਟਲ ਇਹੁ ਧਰਮੁ ॥੪॥੮੦॥੧੪੯॥
kaho naanak atal ih Dharam. ||4||80||149||
has realized that this alone is the eternal righteous deed, says Nanak. ||4||80||149||

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਸੋਈ ॥
kar kirpaa bhaytay gur so-ee.
O’ my friends, that person alone seeks the guidance of the Guru upon whom God becomes gracious.
Ee marafiki wangu, mtu huyo pekee anatafuta mwongozo wa Guru ambaye Mungu anakuwa mwenye neema kwake.
ਤਿਤੁ ਬਲਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥
tit bal rog na bi-aapai ko-ee. ||1||
By virtue of the power of Guru’s blessings, no malady afflicts that person.||1||
Kutokana na nguvu ya baraka za Guru, hakuna maradhi yanaathiri mtu huyo.
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਣ ਤਰਣ ਭੈ ਸਾਗਰ ॥
raam raman taran bhai saagar.
By meditating on God’s Name, we cross over the dreadful worldly-ocean of vices.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, tunavuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi inayoogofya.
ਸਰਣਿ ਸੂਰ ਫਾਰੇ ਜਮ ਕਾਗਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saran soor faaray jam kaagar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When we seek the shelter of the brave Guru, then even the demon of death tears away the account of our deeds. ||1||Pause||
Wakati tunatafuta kificho cha Guru jasiri, basi hata pepo wa kifo anararua akaunti ya vitendo vyetu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥
satgur mantar dee-o har naam.
O’ my friends, whom the true Guru has given the mantra of God’s Name,
Ee marafiki wangu, kwa yule ambaye Guru wa kweli amepea mantra ya Jina la Mungu,
ਇਹ ਆਸਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਏ ਕਾਮ ॥੨॥
ih aasar pooran bha-ay kaam. ||2||
on the support of this (mantra) that person’s tasks are accomplished.||2||
kwa tegemezo ya hiyo (mantra) kazi za mtu huyo zinafanikishwa.
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਪੂਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jap tap sanjam pooree vadi-aa-ee.
The full honor of all kinds of worships, penances, and austerities were received by the one,
Heshima kamilifu ya aina zote za ibada, toba na nidhamu kali inapokelewa na yule,
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੩॥
gur kirpaal har bha-ay sahaa-ee. ||3||
on whom the Guru became kind, and God became his supporter.||3||
Ambaye Guru anakuwa mwema kwake, na Mungu anakuwa msaidizi wake.
ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹ ਖੋਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮ ॥
maan moh kho-ay gur bharam.
The person whose ego, attachment, and doubts are dispelled by the Guru,
Mtu ambaye ubinafsi, kiambatisho na shaka yake imeondolewa na Guru,
ਪੇਖੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਸਰੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੪॥੮੧॥੧੫੦॥
paykh naanak pasray paarbarahm. ||4||81||150||
O’ Nanak, he beholds the Supreme God pervading everywhere. ||4||81||150|

bikhai raaj tay anDhulaa bhaaree.
Under the influence of vicious addictions, one becomes spiritually blind in evil pursuits.
Chini ya ushawishi wa uraibu mkali, mtu anakuwa kipofu kiroho katika harakati mbaya.
ਦੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
dukh laagai raam naam chitaaree. ||1||
When he is afflicted with some malady, then he remembers God’s Name. ||1||
Wakati anaathiriwa na ugonjwa fulani, wakati huo ndio anakumbuka Jina la Mungu.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਤੁਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
tayray daas ka-o tuhee vadi-aa-ee.
O’ God, You are the glory of Your devotee.
Ee Mungu, Wewe ndiwe utukufu wa mtawa wako.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮਗਨੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maa-i-aa magan narak lai jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Engrossment in worldly wealth and affairs drags a person into misery.||1||Pause||
Kuvama katika utajiri na shughuli za kidunia kunapeleka mtu katika taabu.
ਰੋਗ ਗਿਰਸਤ ਚਿਤਾਰੇ ਨਾਉ ॥
rog girsat chitaaray naa-o.
Gripped by disease, the mortal remembers the Name of God,
Akinaswa kwa ugonjwa, binadamu anakumbuka Jina la Mungu,
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਤੇ ਕਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥੨॥
bikh maatay kaa tha-ur na thaa-o. ||2||
The one who is engrossed in the poison of vices has no spiritual standing. ||2||
Yule ambaye amevama katika sumu ya maovu hana msimamo wowote wa kiroho.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
charan kamal si-o laagee pareet.
A person who is attuned to the loving adoration of God’s immaculate Name,
Mtu ambaye amemakinikia ibada ya upendo ya Jina safi la Mungu,
ਆਨ ਸੁਖਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੩॥
aan sukhaa nahee aavahi cheet. ||3||
does not think of any other kind of worldly comforts. ||3||
hafikirii kuhusu aina nyingine yoyote ya starehe za kidunia.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
sadaa sadaa simra-o parabh su-aamee.
O’ my Master-God, I wish to meditate on You forever.
Ee Bwana Mungu wangu, natamani kutafakari kukuhusu milele.
ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੮੨॥੧੫੧॥
mil naanak har antarjaamee. ||4||82||151||
O Nanak, merge with God, the Inner-knower of hearts. ||4||82||151||
Ee Nanak, ungana na Mungu, Mjua wa Ndani wa mioyo.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਸੰਗੀ ਬਟਵਾਰੇ ॥
aath pahar sangee batvaaray.
Twenty-four hours a day, the evil impulses (ego, lust, anger, greed and false attachment), accompany a person like the highway robbers.
Saa ishirini na nne kwa siku, misukumo mbaya (ubinafsi, ukware, hasira, tamaa, kiambatisho cha uonga), inaambatana na mtu kama wezi wa njia kuu.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਲਏ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
kar kirpaa parabh la-ay nivaaray. ||1||
Showing His mercy, God has driven them away. ||1||
Akionyesha huruma yake, Mungu ameifukuza.
ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਮਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
aisaa har ras ramhu sabh ko-ay.
Everyone should enjoy the elixir of the Name of such a powerful God,
Kila mtu anafaa kufurahia dawa ya Jina la Mungu mwenye nguvu kama huyo,
ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab kalaa pooran parabh so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who is perfect and all powerful.||1||Pause||
ambaye ni kamili na ana nguvu zote. ||1||Sitisha||
ਮਹਾ ਤਪਤਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
mahaa tapat saagar sansaar.
This world is like an exceedingly hot ocean of evil passions.
Dunia hii ni kama bahari yenye joto jingi zaidi ya hamu mbaya.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੨॥
parabh khin meh paar utaaranhaar. ||2||
God can ferry us across this ocean in an instant,. ||2||
Mungu anaweza kutuvukisha bahari hii mara moja,
ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
anik banDhan toray nahee jaahi.
The countless worldly bonds can’t be broken by a person’s own efforts.
Vifungo vya kidunia visivyohesabika haviwezi kuvunjwa kwa jitihada za mtu binafsi.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਫਲ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥
simrat naam mukat fal paahi. ||3||
But those who lovingly meditate on God’s Name receive the reward of freedom from these worldly bonds.||3||
Lakini wale wanaotafakari kwa upendo kwa Jina la Mungu wanapokea tuzo ya uhuru kutoka vifungo hivi vya kidunia.
ਉਕਤਿ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
ukat si-aanap is tay kachh naahi.
The mortal can accomplish nothing through any device or cleverness.
Binadamu hawezi kufanikisha chochote kupitia kifaa chochote au uwerevu.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੪॥੮੩॥੧੫੨॥
kar kirpaa naanak gun gaahi. ||4||83||152||
Nanak prays, O’ God, please bestow mercy so that mortals may sing Your praises and save themselves from these vices.||4||83||152||
Nanak anaomba, Ee Mungu, tafadhali tawaza huruma ili binadamu waweze kuimba sifa zako na wajiokoe kutoka maovu haya.

ਥਾਤੀ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥
thaatee paa-ee har ko naam.
O’ my friend, if by God’s Grace you have received the wealth of God’s Name,
Ee rafiki wangu, iwapo kwa Neema ya Mungu umepokea utajiri wa Jina la Mungu,
ਬਿਚਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥
bichar sansaar pooran sabh kaam. ||1||
then you can do your worldly chores without hesitation, all your tasks would be accomplished.||1||
basi unaweza kufanya kazi zako za kidunia bila kusita, kazi zako zote zitafanikishwa.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ॥
vadbhaagee har keertan gaa-ee-ai.
By great good fortune, the hymn of God’s Praises are sung.
Kwa bahati nzuri kuu, wimbo wa Sifa za Mungu unaimbwa.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
paarbarahm tooN deh ta paa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ Supreme God, if You bestow this gift, only then we can sing Your praises.||1||Pause||
Ee Mungu Mkuu, iwapo utawaze tuzo hii, wakati huo tu ndipo tunaweza kuimba sifa zako. ||1||Sitisha||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
har kay charan hirdai ur Dhaar.
O’ my friend, enshrine God’s immaculate Name in your heart.
Ee rafiki wangu, thamini Jina safi la Mungu moyoni wako.
ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਚੜਿ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
bhav saagar charh utreh paar. ||2||
By boarding the ship of God’s Name, you would cross over the world-ocean of vices.||2||
Kwa kupanda meli ya Jina la Mungu, ungevuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi.
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
saaDhoo sang karahu sabh ko-ay.
Everyone should seek the company of the Saint-Guru.
Kila mtu anafaa kutafuta uandamano wa Mtakatifu-Guru.
ਸਦਾ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
sadaa kali-aan fir dookh na ho-ay. ||3||
There will always be peace; and no sorrow will ever afflict again. ||3||
Daima kutakuwa na amani; na hakuna huzuni itawahi kuathiri tena.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
paraym bhagat bhaj gunee niDhaan.
With loving devotion, meditate on God who is the treasure of virtues.
Kwa kujitolea kwa upendo, tafakari kuhusu Mungu ambaye ni hazina ya fadhila.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੮੪॥੧੫੩॥
naanak dargeh paa-ee-ai maan. ||4||84||153||
O Nanak, by doing so we attain honor in God’s court. ||4||84||153||
Ee Nanak, kwa kufanya hivyo tunapata heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

jal thal mahee-al pooran har meet.
Our friend God who is fully pervading in all places-waters, land and sky,
Rafiki wetu Mungu ambaye anaenea kikamilifu mahali pote-majini, ardhini na angani,
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਣ ਨੀਤ ॥੧॥
bharam binsay gaa-ay gun neet. ||1||
by always singing His praises, all doubts are dispelled.||1||
kwa kuimba sifa zake daima, shaka yote inaondolewa.
ਊਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਹਰੂਆ ॥
oothat sovat har sang pahroo-aa.
God remains with the mortal at all times, watching over (ike a bodyguard).
Mungu anabaki na binadamu wakati wote, akimchunga (kama mlinzi).
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਜਮ ਨਹੀ ਡਰੂਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kai simran jam nahee daroo-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By lovindly meditating on Him the fear of death departs. ||1||Pause||
Kwa kutafakari kwa upendo kumhusu uoga wa kifo unaondoka. ||1||Sitisha||
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
charan kamal parabh ridai nivaas.
In whose heart God’s immaculate Name is enshrined,
Yule ambaye moyoni mwake Jina safi la Mungu limethaminiwa,
