ਮਾਈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
maa-ee jo parabh kay gun gaavai.
O’ my mother, one who sings praises of God,
Ee mama yangu, yule anayeimba sifa za Mungu,
ਸਫਲ ਆਇਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਫਲੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
safal aa-i-aa jeevan fal taa ko paarbarahm liv laavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and attunes his mind to the love for the Supreme God; successful is his advent in the world because he achieves the purpose of human life. ||1||Pause||
Na kumakinisha akili yake kwa upendo wa Mungu Mkuu; ujio wake duniani umebarikiwa kwa sababu anatimiza kusudi la maisha ya kibinadamu.||1||Sitisha||
ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੂਰੁ ਸੋ ਬੇਤਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sundar sugharh soor so baytaa jo saaDhoo sang paavai.
The person who obtains the company of the Guru becomes spiritually beautiful, sagacious, brave, and scholar.
Mtu anayepata uandamano wa Guru anakuwa mzuri kiroho, mwenye hekima, jasiri na msomi.
ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਜੋਨੀ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
naam uchaar karay har rasnaa bahurh na jonee Dhaavai. ||1||
He keeps reciting God’s Name with his tongue and he does not wander throughreincarnations again . ||1||
Yeye anaendelea kukariri Jina la Mungu kwa ulimi wake na hazururi kupitia umwilisho tena.
ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਆਨ ਨ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
pooran barahm ravi-aa man tan meh aan na daristee aavai.
He realizes the presence of all pervading God within his mind and heart and except God he sees none other.
Yeye anagundua uwepo wa Mungu anayeenea kote ndani mwa akili na moyo wake na haoni yeyote isipokuwa Mungu.
ਨਰਕ ਰੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਵਤ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੧੪॥
narak rog nahee hovat jan sang naanak jis larh laavai. ||2||14||
O’ Nanak, whom God unites with the company of saints, sufferings and other maladies never affects him. |2||14||
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye Mungu anaunganisha na uandamano wa watakatifu, mateso na magonjwa mengine kamwe hayamuathiri.

ਚੰਚਲੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਹੀ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ॥
chanchal supnai hee urjhaa-i-o.
The mercurial mind remains entangled in the dream-like transient world.
Akili isiyo na msimamo inabaki imenaswa katika dunia ya mpito kama ndoto.
ਇਤਨੀ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਚਲਨਾ ਬਿਕਲ ਭਇਓ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
itnee na boojhai kabhoo chalnaa bikal bha-i-o sang maa-i-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It remains fooled by Maya (worldly riches) and doesn’t understand even this much that one day everyone has to depart from this world. ||1||Pause||
Inabaki imepumbazwa na Maya (utajiri wa kidunia) na haielewi hata hii kwamba siku moja kila mtu atalazimika kuondoka dunia hii. ||1||Sitisha||
ਕੁਸਮ ਰੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਰਸਿ ਰਚਿਆ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਇਓ ॥
kusam rang sang ras rachi-aa bikhi-aa ayk upaa-i-o.
He remains intoxicated in the pleasures of things which are short-lived like flowers and always keeps on devising ways to collect Maya, the worldly wealth.
Yeye anabaki amelevya katika raha za vitu visivyodumu kama maua na daima anabuni mbinu za kukusanya Maya, utajiri wa kidunia.
ਲੋਭ ਸੁਨੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਬੇਗਿ ਤਹਾ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥
lobh sunai man sukh kar maanai bayg tahaa uth Dhaa-i-o. ||1||
Hearing about things that fulfills his greed, he feels happy in his mind and he runs after it. ||1||
Akisikia kuhusu vitu vinavyotimiza tamaa yake, anahisi furaha akilini mwake na anavikimbilia.
ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਸੰਤ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਇਓ ॥
firat firat bahut saram paa-i-o sant du-aarai aa-i-o.
When after wandering around and getting completely exhausted, one comes to the Guru’s door (refuge),
Wakati baada ya kuzurura anachoka kabisa, mtu anakuja kwa mlango wa Guru (kimbilio),
ਕਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੀਓ ਸਮਾਇਓ ॥੨॥੧੫॥
karee kirpaa paarbarahm su-aamee naanak lee-o samaa-i-o. ||2||15||
O’ Nanak, then God bestows mercy and units him with Himself||2||15||
Ee Nanak, kisha Mungu anatawaza huruma na kumuunganisha naye Mwenyewe.

ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਾ ॥
sarab sukhaa gur charnaa.
All spiritual peace is received by following the Guru’s immaculate words.
Amani yote ya kiroho inapokelewa kwa kufuata maneno safi ya Guru.
ਕਲਿਮਲ ਡਾਰਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਧਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਆਸਰ ਮੋਹਿ ਤਰਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kalimal daaran maneh saaDhaaran ih aasar mohi tarnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru’s words destroy sins and provide support to the mind; It is with this support that I will swim across the world-ocean of vices. ||1||Pause||
Maneno ya Guru yanaangamiza watenda dhambi na kutoa tegemezo kwa akili; ni kwa tegemezo hii ambapo nitaogelea kuvuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi. ||1||Sitisha||
ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਚਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਬੰਦਨ ਇਹੈ ਟਹਲ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
poojaa archaa sayvaa bandan ihai tahal mohi karnaa.
I follow the Guru’s teachings, for me it is like offering flowers, other rituals and obeisance before the idols of gods.
Ninafuata mafundisho ya Guru, kwangu ni kama kuwasilisha maua, mila zingine na kusujudu mbele ya sanamu za miungu.
ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਗਰਭੈ ਪਰਨਾ ॥੧॥
bigsai man hovai pargaasaa bahur na garbhai parnaa. ||1||
By following the Guru’s teachings, the mind blooms and is enlightened with divine wisdom and one does not enter the womb again. ||1||
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, akili inanawiri na inaangazwa na hekima takatifu na mtu haingii kwenye chupa cha uzazi tena.
ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਪਰਸਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਇਹੈ ਧਿਆਨਾ ਧਰਨਾ ॥
safal moorat parsa-o santan kee ihai Dhi-aanaa Dharnaa.
I only follow the Guru’s teachings which is my wish-fulfilling idol and meditation.
Nafuata tu mafundisho ya Guru ambayo ni sanamu yangu inayotimiza matakwa na kutafakari.
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੨॥੧੬॥
bha-i-o kirpaal thaakur naanak ka-o pari-o saaDh kee sarnaa. ||2||16||
O’ Nanak, since the time God has bestowed mercy on me, I have entered theGuru’s refuge and I am following his teachings. ||2||16||
Ee Nanak, tangu wakati Mungu ametawaza huruma kwangu, nimeingia kimbilio cha Guru na ninafuata mafundisho yake.

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
apunay har peh bintee kahee-ai.
We should pray only before God.
Tunafaa kuomba kwa Mungu peke yake.
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਨਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chaar padaarath anad mangal niDh sookh sahj siDh lahee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Because, it is from Him that we receive the four blessings (righteousness, worldly wealth, procreation and salvation), the treasures of bliss and joys, spiritual poise, and miraculous powers. ||1||Pause||
Kwa sababu, ni kutoka kwake ambapo tunapokea baraka nne (uadilifu, utajiri wa kidunia, uzazi na wokovu), hazina za raha tele na furaha, utulivu wa kiroho na nguvu za kimiujiza. ||1||Sitisha||
ਮਾਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਾਗਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਚਲੁ ਗਹੀਐ ॥
maan ti-aag har charnee laaga-o tis parabh anchal gahee-ai.
Renouncing my ego, I am attuned to remembrance of God; we should all depend on the support of that God.
Kwa kukana ubinafsi wangu, nimemakinikia ukumbusho wa Mungu; tunafaa kutegemea tegemezo ya Mungu huyo.
ਆਂਚ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੀ ਅਹੀਐ ॥੧॥
aaNch na laagai agan saagar tay saran su-aamee kee ahee-ai. ||1||
If we seek God’s refuge, then the heat of the fiery ocean of vices would not affect us. ||1||
Iwapo tutafute kimbilio cha Mungu, basi joto ya bahari ya dhambi yenye moto haitatuathiri.
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਮਹਾ ਅਕ੍ਰਿਤਘਨ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਹੀਐ ॥
kot paraaDh mahaa akrit-ghan bahur bahur parabh sahee-ai.
Again and again, God puts up with the millions of sins of the extremely ungrateful people.
Tena na tena, Mungu anavumilia mamilioni ya dhambi ya watu wasio na shukrani kabisa.
ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਨਹੀਐ ॥੨॥੧੭॥
karunaa mai pooran parmaysur naanak tis saranhee-ai. ||2||17||
O’ Nanak, we should always seek the refuge of that perfect supreme God, the embodiment of compassion. ||2||17||
Ee Nanak, daima tunafaa kutafuta kimbilio cha Mungu huyo mkuu kamili, udhihirisho wa ukarimu.

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥
gur kay charan ridai parvaysaa.
The one in whose heart are enshrined the Guru’s divine words,
Yule ambaye moyoni mwake mmethaminiwa maneno takatifu ya Guru,
ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਉਤਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rog sog sabh dookh binaasay utray sagal kalaysaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
all his ailments, sorrows and pains are destroyed and all his afflictions come to an end. ||1||Pause||
magonjwa, huzuni na maumivu yake yote yanaangamizwa na masaibu yake yote yanakwisha. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ॥
janam janam kay kilbikh naaseh kot majan isnaanaa.
The sins of countless births are erased, as if one has received the reward of bathing at millions of sacred shrines.
Dhambi za kuzaliwa kwingi kusikohesabika kunafutwa, kana kwamba mtu amepokea zawadi ya kuoga katika mamilioni ya ziara takatifu.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗਾਵਤ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਗੋ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥੧॥
naam niDhaan gaavat gun gobind laago sahj Dhi-aanaa. ||1||
The treasure of the Naam is received by singing Praises of God and the mind remains focused on meditation in a state of spiritual poise. ||1||
Hazina ya Naam inapokelewa kwa kuimba Sifa za Mungu na akili inabaki imemakinikia utafakari katika hali ya utulivu wa kiroho.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥
kar kirpaa apunaa daas keeno banDhan tor niraaray.
Bestowing mercy, whom God makes His devotee; breaking his worldly bonds, He frees him from the love for Maya, the worldly riches and power.
Akitawaza huruma, ambaye Mungu anafanya awe mtawa wake; akivunja vifungo vyake vya kidunia, Yeye anamweka huru kutoka kwa upendo wa Maya, utajiri na nguvu ya kidunia.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੧੮॥ ਛਕੇ ੩ ॥
jap jap naam jeevaa tayree banee naanak daas balihaaray. ||2||18|| chhakay 3.
Nanak says, O’ God, I am dedicated to You; I spiritually rejuvenate by reciting the words of Your praises and by always remembering You. |2||18||
Nanak anasema, Ee Mungu, mimi nimejiweka wakfu kwako; nasisimka kiroho kwa kukariri maneno ya sifa zako na kwa kukukumbuka Wewe daima. Chhakay 3.

Ee mama yangu, naendelea kumkumbuka Mungu daima kwa ujitoaji wa upendo
