ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਹਿਰਡ ਪਲਾਸ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੁਹੀਆ ॥੧॥
mil satsangat param pad paa-i-aa mai hirad palaas sang har buhee-aa. ||1||
I have received the supreme spiritual status by associating with saints, similar touseless plants like Hirad and Plass becoming fragrant by growing near Sandal tree. ||1||
Nimepokea hadhi kuu ya kiroho kwa kujihusisha na watakatifu, kama vile mimea bure kama Hirad na Plass inayokuwa na harufu nzuri kwa kumea karibu na misandali.
ਜਪਿ ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਈਆ ॥
jap jagannaath jagdees gus-ee-aa.
O’ my friend, contemplate on God, the Master of the universe,
Ee rafiki wangu, tafakari kuhusu Mungu, Bwana wa ulimwengu,
ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਉਧਾਰਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saran paray say-ee jan ubray ji-o par-hilaad uDhaar sama-ee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
because only those who come to His refuge are saved from the world ocean of vices, just as by saving Prehlaad, God absorbed him in Himself. ||1||Pause||
kwa sababu ni wale tu wanaokuja kwa kimbilio Chake ambao wanaokolewa kutoka kwa bahari dunia ya dhambi, kama vile kwa kuokoa Prehlaad, Mungu alimvamisha ndani mwake Mwenyewe. ||1||Sitisha||
ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮਹਿ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਊਤਮ ਚੰਦਨ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਸਭ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਹੁਈਆ ॥
bhaar athaarah meh chandan ootam chandan nikat sabh chandan hu-ee-aa.
Out of the entire vegetation, the sandal tree is the most sublime; all that growsnear a Sandal tree, becomes fragrant like Sandal,
Kati ya mimea yote, mti wa misandali ni mtukufu zaidi; yote inayomea karibu na mti wa misandali, inakuwa na harufu nzuri kama misandali,
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੂੜੇ ਊਭ ਸੁਕ ਹੂਏ ਮਨਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਗਈਆ ॥੨॥
saakat koorhay oobh suk hoo-ay man abhimaan vichhurh door ga-ee-aa. ||2||
The ego in the minds of the false faithless cynics keeps them away from God, they are like plants which in spite of getting nourishment have dried up. ||2||
Ubinafsi akilini mwa wabeuzi wa uongo wasio na imani unawaweka mbali na Mungu, wao ni kama mimea ambayo licha ya kupata lishe imenyauka.
ਹਰਿ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਈਆ ॥
har gat mit kartaa aapay jaanai sabh biDh har har aap bana-ee-aa.
God the Creator Himself knows His worth and status; He Himself has made all the arrangements and plans for the entire world.
Mungu Muumba Mwenyewe anajua thamani na hadhi Yake; Yeye Mwenyewe amefanya matayarisho yote na mipango ya dunia nzima.
ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੁ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮਿਟਈਆ ॥੩॥
jis satgur bhaytay so kanchan hovai jo Dhur likhi-aa so mitai na mita-ee-aa. ||3||
What is pre-ordained, cannot be erased by one’s own efforts, but one who meets and follows the Guru’s teachings, his conduct becomes pure like gold. ||3||
Kile ambacho kimeagiziwa mapema, hakiwezi kufutwa kwa jitihada binafsi za mtu, lakini yule anayekutana na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, tabia yake inakuwa safi kama dhahabu.
ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਈਆ ॥
ratan padaarath gurmat paavai saagar bhagat bhandaar khulH-ee-aa.
The Guru is like an ocean and open treasure of devotional worship; one can receive the jewel-like divine virtues by following the Guru’s teachings.
Guru ni kama bahari na hazina wazi ya ibada ya ujitoaji; mtu anaweza kupokea fadhila takatifu kama vito kwa kufuata mafundisho ya guru.
ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਇਕ ਸਰਧਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਭਈਆ ॥੪॥
gur charnee ik sarDhaa upjee mai har gun kahtay taripat na bha-ee-aa. ||4||
By following the Guru’s teachings, love for God has welled up within me; singing the praises of God, I do not ever get satiated. ||4||
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, upendo kwa Mungu umetokea ndani mwangu; kwa kuimba sifa za Mungu, kamwe sitoshelezwi kufanya hivyo.
ਪਰਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਏ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਕਹੀਆ ॥
param bairaag nit nit har Dhi-aa-ay mai har gun kahtay bhaavnee kahee-aa.
Sublime love for God wells up within the one who always remembers Him; I have expressed that love which has welled up within me by singing God’s praises.
Upendo mtukufu kwa Mungu unatokea ndani mwa yule ambaye daima anamkumbuka Yeye; nimedhihirisha upendo huo ambao umetokea ndani mwangu kwa kuimba sifa za Mungu.
ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਰੈ ਪਰਈਆ ॥੫॥
baar baar khin khin pal kahee-ai har paar na paavai parai para-ee-aa. ||5||
We should remember God at each and every moment, with the knowledge that He is infinite and none can find the limits of His virtues. ||5||
Tunafaa kukumbuka Mungu kila wakati, kwa maarifa ya kwamba Yeye hana mwisho na hakuna anayeweza kupata vikomo vya fadhila Zake.
ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥
saasat bayd puraan pukaareh Dharam karahu khat karam darirha-ee-aa.
The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Puraanas stress only on performing basic six religious deeds (giving and taking charity, teaching and studying Vedas, and offering and conducting sacrifices).
Shaastras, Vedas na Puranas zinasisitiza tu kutenda vitendo sita vya kimsingi vya kidini (kutoa na kuchukua hisani, kufunza na kusoma Vedas, na kutoa na kufanya dhabihu).
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਨਾਵ ਭਾਰਿ ਬੁਡਈਆ ॥੬॥
manmukh pakhand bharam vigootay lobh lahar naav bhaar buda-ee-aa. ||6||
The hypocritical, self-willed people are ruined by the doubt about these rituals; the boat of their life sinks with the load of these deeds in waves of greed. ||6||
Watu wanafiki, wenye hiari binafsi wanaharibiwa na shaka kuhusu mila hizi; mashua ya maisha yao inazama na mzigo wa vitendo hivi katika mawimbi ya tamaa.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਈਆ ॥
naam japahu naamay gat paavhu simrit saastar naam darirh-ee-aa.
O’ brother, meditate on Naam and receive freedom from vices; the merits of reading scriptures are included in meditating on God’s Name.
Ee ndugu, tafakari kuhusu Naam na upokee uhuru kutoka maovu; sifa za kusoma maandishi takatifu zimejumuishwa katika kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥
ha-umai jaa-ay ta nirmal hovai gurmukh parchai param pad pa-ee-aa. ||7||
When one’s ego is erased, then his life becomes immaculate; one receives supreme spiritual status by realizing God through the Guru’s teachings. ||7||
Wakati ubinafsi wa mtu unafutwa, basi maisha yake yanakuwa safi; mtu anapokea hadhi kuu ya kiroho kwa kugundua Mungu kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਵਰਨੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਈਆ ॥
ih jag varan roop sabh tayraa jit laaveh say karam kama-ee-aa.
O’ God, this world, with all its forms and colors, is Yours; the living beings perform only those deeds to which You engage them.
Ee Mungu, dunia hii, pamoja na miundo na rangi zake zote, ni Yako; viumbe vinavyoishi wanatenda vile vitendo ambavyo Wewe unawahusisha.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਰਾਹਿ ਚਲਈਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੫॥
naanak jant vajaa-ay vaajeh jit bhaavai tit raahi chala-ee-aa. ||8||2||5||
O’ Nanak, creatures are like musical instruments, they sound as they are played; similarly people tread the path according to God’s will. ||8||2||5||
Ee Nanak, viumbe ni kama ala za muziki, zinatoa sauti vile zinazochezwa; vivyo hivyo watu wanatembea njiani kulingana na mapenzi ya Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖਈਆ ॥
gurmukh agam agochar Dhi-aa-i-aa ha-o bal bal satgur sat purkha-ee-aa.
Through the Guru’s teachings, I remember the incomprehensible God; I dedicate myself to the true Guru, the all pervading eternal God.
Kupitia kwa mafundisho ya Guru, nakumbuka Mungu asiyeweza kueleweka; ninajiweka wakfu kwa Guru wa kweli, Mungu wa milele anayeenea kote.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੧॥
raam naam mayrai paraan vasaa-ay satgur paras har naam sama-ee-aa. ||1||
The true Guru has enshrined God’s Name in my breaths; I am absorbed in God’s Name by following the Guru’s teachings. ||1||
Guru wa kweli amethamini Jina la Mungu katika pumzi zangu; nimevama katika Jina la Mungu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥
jan kee tayk har naam tika-ee-aa.
The Guru has made God’s Name as the support of the life of a devotee like me.
Guru amefanya Jina la Mungu kuwa tegemezo la uhai wa mtawa kama mimi.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਧਰ ਲਾਗਾ ਜਾਵਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur kee Dhar laagaa jaavaa gur kirpaa tay har dar lahee-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Holding on to the true Guru’s teachings, I am continuing my life’s journey; by the Guru’s grace I have realized God’s presence within my heart. ||1||Pause||
Kwa kushikilia mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, ninaendelea safari yangu ya maisha; kwa neema ya Guru nimegundua uwepo wa Mungu ndani mwa moyo wangu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਰਮ ਕੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਥਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢਈਆ ॥
ih sareer karam kee Dhartee gurmukh math math tat kadha-ee-aa.
The human body is like a farm, where the seed of deeds are sown; one receives the supreme spiritual status by contemplating the Guru’s teachings.
Mwili wa binadamu ni kama shamba, ambapo mbegu ya vitendo inapandwa; mtu anapokea hadhi kuu ya kiroho kwa kutafakari kuhusu mafundisho ya Guru.
ਲਾਲੁ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਪਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਅਈਆ ॥੨॥
laal javayhar naam pargaasi-aa bhaaNdai bhaa-o pavai tit a-ee-aa. ||2||
The heart in which the Guru reveals the jewel-like precious Naam, love for all comes to dwell in that heart. ||2||
Moyo ambayo ndani mwake Guru amedhihirisha Naam yenye thamani kama kito, upendo kwa wote unakuja kuishi katika moyo huo.
ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਨਿਜ ਭਈਆ ॥
daasan daas daas ho-ay rahee-ai jo jan raam bhagat nij bha-ee-aa.
We should live like servants of the servants of those who have become God’s favorite devotees.
Tunafaa kuishi kama watumishi wa watumishi wa wale ambao wamekuwa watawa wapendwa kabisa wa Mungu.
ਮਨੁ ਬੁਧਿ ਅਰਪਿ ਧਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਈਆ ॥੩॥
man buDh arap Dhara-o gur aagai gur parsaadee mai akath katha-ee-aa. ||3||
I have surrendered my mind and intellect before the Guru, by whose grace I am singing the praises of God whose virtues cannot be described. ||3||
Nimesalimisha akili na uwekevu wangu mbele ya Guru, ambaye kwa neema yake ninaimba sifa za Mungu ambaye fadhila zake haziwezi kuelezwa.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਤਿਖਈਆ ॥
manmukh maa-i-aa mohi vi-aapay ih man tarisnaa jalat tikha-ee-aa.
The self-willed persons are always engrossed in the love for Maya; their minds are always yearning and burning for undue worldly desires.
Watu wenye hiari binafsi daima wamevama katika upendo wa Maya; akili zao daima zinatamani mno hamu za kidunia zisizofaa.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਈਆ ॥੪॥
gurmat naam amrit jal paa-i-aa agan bujhee gur sabad bujha-ee-aa. ||4||
By following the Guru’s teachings, one who has received the ambrosial nectar of Naam, his fire of desires got put out; the Guru’s word has stilled that fire. ||4||
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, yule ambaye amepokea nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam, moto wake wa hamu ulizimwa; neno la Guru limezima moto huo.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥
ih man naachai satgur aagai anhad sabad Dhun toor vaja-ee-aa.
The mind which follows the Guru’s teachings becomes so happy, as if it was dancing before him,within that mind keeps vibrating the non-stop melodies of the divine word.
Akili inayofuata mafundisho ya Guru inafurahia mno, kana kwamba ilikuwa inacheza mbele yake, ndani mwa akili hiyo mnaendelea kutetema melodia zisizo na mwisho za neno takatifu.
