ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
sehjay naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai gi-aan pargat ho-ay. ||
Divine knowledge becomes manifest by intuitively meditating on Naam. ||1||
Maarifa takatifu yanadhihirika kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam kisilika.
ਏ ਮਨ ਮਤ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਖੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
ay man mat jaaneh har door hai sadaa vaykh hadoor.
O’ my mind, do not think that GOd is far away; always behold Him close at hand.
Ee akili yangu, usifikirie kwamba Mungu yu mbali; mtazame Yeye daima kuwa karibu mno.
ਸਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਸਦ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sad sundaa sad vaykh-daa sabad rahi-aa bharpoor. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God is always listening and always watching over us; He can be realized pervading everywhere through the Guru’s word. ||1||Pause||
Mungu daima anatusikiliza na kutuchunga; Yeye anaweza kugunduliwa akienea kote kupitia neno la Guru. ||1||Sitisha||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
gurmukh aap pachhaani-aa tinHee ik man Dhi-aa-i-aa.
The Guru’s followers understand their own selves and they meditate on God with a focused mind.
Wafuasi wa Guru wanajielewa wenyewe na wanatafakari kuhusu Mungu kwa akili iliyokaziwa fikira.
ਸਦਾ ਰਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
sadaa raveh pir aapnaa sachai naam sukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
They always enjoy the company of their Husband-God and attain celestial peace by attuning to the eternal God’s Name. ||2||
Daima wanafurahia uandamano wa Mume-Mungu wao na kupata amani ya kimbingu kwa kumakinikia Jina la Mungu wa milele.
ਏ ਮਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ay man tayraa ko nahee kar vaykh sabad veechaar.
O’ my mind, by reflecting upon the Guru’s word, you can see that in reality no one except God is your true companion.
Ee akili yangu. Kwa kuwaza kwa makini kuhusu neno la Guru, unaweza kuona kwamba kwa uhalisia hakuna mtu isipokuwa Mungu ni mwendani wako wa kweli.
ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਉ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੩॥
har sarnaa-ee bhaj pa-o paa-ihi mokh du-aar. ||3||
Therefore, run to God‘s refuge and find freedom from the bonds of Maya. ||3||
Hivyo basi, enda kwa kimbilio cha Mungu na upate uhuru kutoka vifungo vya Maya.
ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
sabad sunee-ai sabad bujhee-ai sach rahai liv laa-ay.
One who listens and understands the Guru’s word, he always remains attuned to the eternal God.
Yule anayesikiliza na kuelewa neno la Guru, yeye anabaki amemakinikia Mungu wa milele.
ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥
sabday ha-umai maaree-ai sachai mahal sukh paa-ay. ||4||
Through the Guru’s word, he eradicates his ego and enjoys the spiritual peace by realizing God in his heart. ||4||
Kupitia neno la Guru, anaondoa ubinafsi wake na kufurahia amani ya kiroho kwa kumgundua Mungu moyoni mwake.
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੋਭ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
is jug meh sobhaa naam kee bin naavai sobh na ho-ay.
In this world, the glory is obtained through meditating on Naam; true glory is not attained without meditating on God’s Name.
Duniani humu, utukufu unapatwa kupitia kutafakari kuhusu Naam; utukufu wa kweli haupatwi bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਜਾਦੀ ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
ih maa-i-aa kee sobhaa chaar dihaarhay jaadee bilam na ho-ay. ||5||
The glory obtained through this Maya (worldly riches) is very short-lived, it disappears in an instant. ||5||
Utukufu unaopatwa kupitia Maya hii (utajiri wa kidunia) haudumu, inapotea papo hapo.
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਮੁਏ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
jinee naam visaari-aa say mu-ay mar jaahi.
Those who forsake God’s Name depart from this world spiritually dead.
Wale wanaoacha Jina la Mungu wanaondoka kutoka dunia hii wamekufa kiroho.
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੬॥
har ras saad na aa-i-o bistaa maahi samaahi. ||6||
They do not enjoy the relish of God’s Name and remain in the filth of vices. ||6||
Hawafurahii kiburudisho cha Jina la Mungu na wanabaki katika uchafu wa maovu.
ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ॥
ik aapay bakhas milaa-i-an an-din naamay laa-ay.
Showing mercy, God has engaged some in always meditating on Naam and has united them with Himself.
Akionyesha huruma, Mungu amehusisha wengine katika kutafakari kuhusu Naam na amewaunganisha naye Mwenyewe.
ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੭॥
sach kamaaveh sach raheh sachay sach samaahi. ||7||
They always meditate on God’s Name, live a truthful life and ultimately merge in the eternal God. ||7||
Daima wanatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, wanaishi maisha ya kweli na mwishowe wanaungana na Mungu wa milele.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਜਗੁ ਬੋਲਾ ਅੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥
bin sabdai sunee-ai na daykhee-ai jag bolaa anHaa bharmaa-ay.
Without the Guru’s word, God’s praises can neither be heard nor He can be realized; the entire world is wandering in doubt being spiritually blind and dumb.
Bila neno la Guru, sifa za Mungu haziwezi kusikika wala Yeye hawezi kugunduliwa; dunia nzima inazurura katika shaka ikiwa kipofu na kiziwi kiroho.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੮॥
bin naavai dukh paa-isee naam milai tisai rajaa-ay. ||8||
The entire world endures misery without meditating on Naam; however, God’s Name is received only through His Will. ||8||
Dunia nzima inavumilia taabu bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam; hata hivyo, Jina la Mungu linapokelewa tu kupitia Mapenzi Yake.
ਜਿਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jin banee si-o chit laa-i-aa say jan nirmal parvaan.
Those who are attuned to the Guru’s word are immaculate and approved in God’s presence.
Wale ambao wamemakinikia neno la Guru ni safi na wameidhinishwa katika uwepo wa Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੯॥੧੩॥੩੫॥
naanak naam tinHaa kaday na veesrai say dar sachay jaan. ||9||13||35||
O’ Nanak, they never forget Naam and are recognized with honor in God’s presence. ||9||13||35||
Ee Nanak, kamwe hawasahau Naam na wanatambuliwa kwa staha katika uwepo wa Mungu.

sabdou hee bhagat jaapday jinH kee banee sachee ho-ay.
The devotees who utter divine words of God’s praises, become known in the world.
Watawa wanaotamka maneno takatifu ya sifa za Mungu, wanakuwa maarufu duniani.
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
vichahu aap ga-i-aa naa-o mani-aa sach milaavaa ho-ay. ||1||
Their self-conceit is eradicated from within, they develop faith in Naam and unite with the eternal God. ||1||
Majivuno yao binafsi yanatokomezwa kutoka ndani mwao, wanasitawisha imani katika Naam na kuungana na Mungu wa milele.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
har har naam jan kee pat ho-ay.
The devotees attain honor by meditating on God’s Name.
Watawa wanapata staha kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਸਫਲੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
safal tinHaa kaa janam hai tinH maanai sabh ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Their life is fruitful because everyone adores them. ||1||Pause||
Maisha yao yana mafanikio kwa sababu kila mtu anawapenda. ||1||Sitisha||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
ha-umai mayraa jaat hai at kroDh abhimaan.
Egoism and selfishness in a person creates his separate identity from God which brings out extreme anger and arrogance in him.
Ubinafsi na uchoyo ndani mwa mtu unaleta utambulisho uliotenganishwa na Mungu ambao unaleta hasira na kiburi kilichokithiri ndani mwake.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
sabad marai taa jaat jaa-ay jotee jot milai bhagvaan. ||2||
Through the Guru’s teachings, when egoism subsides then duality ends and one’s conscience merges with the light of God. ||2||
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, wakati ubinafsi unapungua kisha uwili unakwisha na fahamu ya mtu inaungana na mwanga wa Mungu.
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
pooraa satgur bhayti-aa safal janam hamaaraa.
My life has become fruitful by meeting and following the perfect Guru’s teachings.
Maisha yake yanakuwa yenye matokeo mema kwa kukutana na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru kamili.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵੈ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਰੇ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
naam navai niDh paa-i-aa bharay akhut bhandaaraa. ||3||
I have attained the wealth of Naam, which is like the nine treasures of the world and my heart is filled with the inexhaustible wealth of Naam. ||3||
Nimepata utajiri wa Naam, ambao ni kama hazina tisa za dunia na moyo wangu umejawa na utajiri usioweza kwisha wa Naam.
ਆਵਹਿ ਇਸੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥
aavahi is raasee kay vaapaaree-ay jinHaa naam pi-aaraa.
The dealers of this wealth of Naam come to the Guru, whom God’s Name is dear.
Wauzaji wa utajiri huu wa Naam wanakuja kwa Guru, ambaye Jina la Mungu ni la dhati kwake.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
gurmukh hovai so Dhan paa-ay tinHaa antar sabad veechaaraa. ||4||
But only those who follow the Guru’s teachings attain this wealth of Naam; because within them is the ability to reflect on the divine word.||4||
Lakini ni wale tu wanaofuata mafundisho ya Guru wanapata utajiri huu wa Naam; kwa sababu ndani mwao kuna uwezo wa kutafakari kuhusu neno takatifu.
ਭਗਤੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
bhagtee saar na jaananHee manmukh ahaNkaaree.
The self-willed arrogants do not appreciate the value of devotional worship.
Viburi wenye hiari binafsi hawathamini thamani ya ibada ya ujitoaji.
ਧੁਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੫॥
Dharahu aap khu-aa-i-an joo-ai baajee haaree. ||5||
They are destined to go astray by God Himself; they lose the game of life. ||5||
Wamehatimiwa kupotoka na Mungu Mwenyewe; wanapoteza mchezo wa maisha.
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥
bin pi-aarai bhagat na hova-ee naa sukh ho-ay sareer.
Without loving affection for God, devotional worship cannot be done and without it the body cannot be at peace.
Bila upendo kwa Mungu, ibada ya ujitoaji haiwezi kufanywa na bila ibada hiyo mwili haiwezi kuwa kwa amani.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤੀ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਿ ॥੬॥
paraym padaarath paa-ee-ai gur bhagtee man Dheer. ||6||
The wealth of love for Naam is attained by following the Guru’s teachings; the mind becomes steady through devotional worship. ||6||
Utajiri wa upendo wa Naam unapatwa kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, akili inakuwa thabiti kupitia ibada ya ujitoaji.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
jis no bhagat karaa-ay so karay gur sabad veechaar.
He whom God so blesses, performs devotional worship by reflecting on the Guru’s word.
Yule ambaye Mungu anabariki hivyo, anafanya ibada ya ujitoaji kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੭॥
hirdai ayko naam vasai ha-umai dubiDhaa maar. ||7||
Then by eradicating ego and duality, he realizes God dwelling in his heart. ||7||
Kisha kwa kutokomeza ubinafsi na uwili, anagundua Mungu akiishi moyoni mwake.
ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਏਕੋੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
bhagtaa kee jat pat ayko naam hai aapay la-ay savaar.
Meditation on God’s Name alone is the social status and honor of the devotees; God Himself adorns their lives.
Kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu pekee ni hadhi ya kijamii na staha ya watawa; Mungu Mwenyewe.
ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੮॥
sadaa sarnaa-ee tis kee ji-o bhaavai ti-o kaaraj saar. ||8||
The devotees always remain in God’s refuge and He accomplishes their tasks as pleases Him. ||8||
Watawa daima wanabaki katika kimbilio cha Mungu na Yeye anatimiza kazi zao inavyompendeza.
