ਹਉ ਬਨਜਾਰੋ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਸਹਜ ਕਰਉ ਬ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
ha-o banjaaro raam ko sahj kara-o ba-yaapaar.
I am a trader of God’s Name and I trade to make the profit of intuitive peace.
Mimi ni mfanya biashara wa Jina la Mungu na nafanya biashara kupata faida ya amani ya hisia na silika.
ਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਲਾਦਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
mai raam naam Dhan laadi-aa bikh laadee sansaar. ||2||
I have loaded the wealth of God’s Name and rest of the world is carrying the load of Maya. ||2||

ਉਰਵਾਰ ਪਾਰ ਕੇ ਦਾਨੀਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਆਲ ਪਤਾਲੁ ॥
urvaar paar kay daanee-aa likh layho aal pataal.
O’ the knower of the secrets of this and the next world, go ahead and write whatever you want to write about me (because you will not find anything wrong in my deeds).
Ee mjua wa siri za dunia hii na itakayofuata, endelea na uandike chochote unataka kuandika kunihusu (kwa sababu hutapata kitu chochote kibaya katika vitendo vyangu).
ਮੋਹਿ ਜਮ ਡੰਡੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਈ ਤਜੀਲੇ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੩॥
mohi jam dand na laag-ee tajeelay sarab janjaal. ||3||
I won’t bepunished by the demon of death, because I have renounced all sinful worldly entanglements. ||3||
sitaadhibiwa na pepo wa kifo, kwa sababu nimekana misongamano yangu yote ya kidunia yenye dhambi.
ਜੈਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
jaisaa rang kasumbh kaa taisaa ih sansaar.
As is the fast fading color of the safflower, so is the world,
Kama ilivyo rangi inayofifia upesi wa saflawa, ndivyo ilivyo dunia,
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਮਈਏ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠ ਕਾ ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ ॥੪॥੧॥
mayray ram-ee-ay rang majeeth kaa kaho ravidaas chamaar. ||4||1||
but the love of my God is permanent like the dye from Madder plant, says cobbler Ravi Dass. ||4||1||
lakini upendo wa Mungu wangu ni ya kudumu kama rangi kutoka mmea wa madder, asema fundi-viatu Ravi Dass.

ਕੂਪੁ ਭਰਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਦਾਦਿਰਾ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਬਿਦੇਸੁ ਨ ਬੂਝ ॥
koop bhari-o jaisay daadiraa kachh days bidays na boojh.
Just as in a well full of water, the frogs do not know if there exists anything outside the well,
Kama vile katika kisima kilichojaa maji, vyura hawajui iwapo kuwepo chochote nje ya kisima,
ਐਸੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਿਮੋਹਿਆ ਕਛੁ ਆਰਾ ਪਾਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝ ॥੧॥
aisay mayraa man bikhi-aa bimohi-aa kachh aaraa paar na soojh. ||1||
similarly my mind, infatuated with Maya, has no idea about this world or the next world. ||1||
vivyo hivyo akili yangu, ikipendezwa na Maya, haina fahamu kuhusu dunia hii au dunia itakayofuata.
ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਕੇ ਨਾਇਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਜੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal bhavan kay naa-ikaa ik chhin daras dikhaa-ay jee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ the Master of all worlds, even for an instant please reveal to me Your blessed vision. ||1||Pause||
Ee Bwana wa dunia zote, hata kwa muda mfupi tafadhali dhihirisha kwangu mwono wako uliobarikiwa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਮਲਿਨ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਮਾਧਵਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਲਖੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
malin bha-ee mat maaDhvaa tayree gat lakhee na jaa-ay.
O’ God, my intellect is polluted with vices and I cannot comprehend You.
Ee Mungu, akili yangu imechafuliwa na dhambi na siwezi kukufahamu Wewe.
ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਚੂਕਈ ਮੈ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥੨॥
karahu kirpaa bharam chook-ee mai sumat dayh samjhaa-ay. ||2||
O’God, show mercy and bless me with the right intellect so that my wandering may end. ||2||
Ee Mungu, nionee huruma na unibariki kwa akili timamu ili kuzurura kwangu kuweze kuisha.
ਜੋਗੀਸਰ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਤੁਅ ਗੁਣ ਕਥਨੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
jogeesar paavahi nahee tu-a gun kathan apaar.
O’ God, even great yogis cannot describe Your limitless virtues.
Ee Mungu, hata mayogi wakuu hawawezi kueleza fadhila zako zisizo na kikomo.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਕਾਰਣੈ ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ ॥੩॥੧॥
paraym bhagat kai kaarnai kaho ravidaas chamaar. ||3||1||
O’ the tanner Ravidas, sing the praises of the Master-God, so that you may be blessed with the gift of His devotional worship.||3||1||
Ee mtengenezaji wa ngozi Ravidas, imba sifa za Bwana-Mungu, ili uweze kubarikiwa na thawabu ya ibada Yake ya ujitoaji.

ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਸਤੁ ਤੇਤਾ ਜਗੀ ਦੁਆਪਰਿ ਪੂਜਾਚਾਰ ॥
satjug sat taytaa jagee duaapar poojaachaar.
Truthful living in sat-yug, sacrificial feasts in treta-yug and the worship of angelsin dwapar-yug were believed to be the means to attain salvation.
Kuishi katika ukweli katika sat-yug, sherehe za dhabihu katika treta-yug na ibada ya malaika katika dwapar-yug ziliaminiwa kuwa mbinu ya kupata wokovu.
ਤੀਨੌ ਜੁਗ ਤੀਨੌ ਦਿੜੇ ਕਲਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥
teenou jug teenou dirhay kal kayval naam aDhaar. ||1||
In those three ages people held on to these three beliefs; but in kalyug, meditation on Naam is the only way to realize God. ||1||
Katika enzi hizo tatu watu walishikilia itikadi hizo tatu; lakini katika kalyug, kutafakari kuhusu Naam ni njia ya pekee ya kumgundua Mungu.
ਪਾਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਇਬੋ ਰੇ ॥
paar kaisay paa-ibo ray.
O’ pundit, amidst these rituals how would you swim across this world ocean?
Ee mbukuzi, kati ya hizi mila utawezaje kuogelea ukivuka bahari dunia hii?
ਮੋ ਸਉ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਕਹੈ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥
mo sa-o ko-oo na kahai samjhaa-ay.
Nobody has been able to explain and convince me
Hakuna mtu ameweza kunieleza na kunishawishi
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਆਵਾ ਗਵਨੁ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa tay aavaa gavan bilaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
by which the rounds of birth and death may end. ||1||Pause||
kwamba kuipitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa iweze kutamatika. ||1||Sitisha||
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਰੂਪੀਐ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਭ ਲੋਇ ॥
baho biDh Dharam niroopee-ai kartaa deesai sabh lo-ay.
These conducts of faith have been described in many different ways and the entire world seems to be practicing them.
Vitendo hivi vya imani vimeelezwa kwa njia nyingi tofauti na dunia nzima inaonekana kuwa inavitenda.
ਕਵਨ ਕਰਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਜਿਹ ਸਾਧੇ ਸਭ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
kavan karam tay chhootee-ai jih saaDhay sabh siDh ho-ay. ||2||
What is that way by following which one may be liberated from the cycles of birth and death and attain the goal of life? ||2||
Ni njia ipi hiyo kwa kuifuata mtu anaweza kukombolewa kutoka mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa na kutimiza lengo la maisha?
ਕਰਮ ਅਕਰਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਸੰਕਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ॥
karam akram beechaaree-ai sankaa sun bayd puraan.
Doubts remain in the mind when the good and the evil deeds are distinguished by listening to the Vedas and the Puranas.
Shaka zinabaki akilini wakati vitendo vizuri na vibaya vinabainishwa kwa kusikiza Vedas na Puranas.
ਸੰਸਾ ਸਦ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸੈ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਿਰੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
sansaa sad hirdai basai ka-un hirai abhimaan. ||3||
Always a doubt remains in one’s mind concerning whether one is doing the right thing or not? One doesn’t know what deed can remove one’s arrogance. ||3||
Daima shaka inabaki akilini mwa mtu kuhusu iwapo anafanya kitendo kizuri au sivyo? Mtu hajui ni kitendo kipi kinaweza kuondoa kiburi chake.
ਬਾਹਰੁ ਉਦਕਿ ਪਖਾਰੀਐ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਿਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
baahar udak pakhaaree-ai ghat bheetar bibiDh bikaar.
When one bathes at the pilgrimage places, one washes the body only but the mind still remains full of evil thoughts.
Wakati mtu anaoga kwenye mahali pa hija, mtu anasafisha mwili tu lakini akili inabaki imejawa na fikira mbaya.
ਸੁਧ ਕਵਨ ਪਰ ਹੋਇਬੋ ਸੁਚ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥੪॥
suDh kavan par ho-ibo such kunchar biDh bi-uhaar. ||4||
So how can one become pure? when the method of purification is like that of an elephant, covering himself with dust right after the bath! ||4||
Basi mtu anawezaje kuwa safi? Wakati mbinu ya utakaso ni kama ile ya tembo, kujifunika na mchanga punde tu baada ya kuoga!
ਰਵਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਰਜਨੀ ਜਥਾ ਗਤਿ ਜਾਨਤ ਸਭ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
rav pargaas rajnee jathaa gat jaanat sabh sansaar.
The entire world knows this fact that when the sun rises, the darkness of night is removed.
Dunia nzima inajua ukweli huu kwamba wakati jua linapambazuka, giza ya usiku inaondolewa.
ਪਾਰਸ ਮਾਨੋ ਤਾਬੋ ਛੁਏ ਕਨਕ ਹੋਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਰ ॥੫॥
paaras maano taabo chhu-ay kanak hot nahee baar. ||5||
It is believed that with the touch of the mythical philosopher’s stone, copper is immediately transformed into gold. ||5||
Inaaminiwa kwamba kwa mguso wa jiwe la kihadithi la mwanafalsafa, shaba inabadilika moja kwa moja kuwa dhahabu.
ਪਰਮ ਪਰਸ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਪੂਰਬ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਲਾਟ ॥
param paras gur bhaytee-ai poorab likhat lilaat.
According to the preordained destiny, if one meets with the Guru whose word is much superior than the touch of the mythical philosopher’s stone,
Kulingana na hatima iliyoagiziwa mapema, iwapo mtu akutane na Guru ambaye neno lake ni kuu zaidi kuliko mguso wa jiwe la kihadithi la mwanafalsafa,
ਉਨਮਨ ਮਨ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਛੁਟਕਤ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ॥੬॥
unman man man hee milay chhutkat bajar kapaat.||6||
then an intense desire to meet God arises in the mind, the hard stone-like gates of the mind are opened and one realizes God in one’s mind itself. ||6||
basi hamu kali ya kukutana na Mungu inatokea akilini, milango ya akili iliyo migumu kama mawe inafunguliwa na mtu anagundua Mungu katika akili yake mwenyewe.
ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
bhagat jugat mat sat karee bharam banDhan kaat bikaar.
One who firmly enshrines the Guru’s teachings in the mind and meditates on Naam, all his doubts, worldly bonds and past sins are destroyed.
Yule ambaye anathamini kwa uthabiti mafundisho ya Guru akilini na kutafakari kuhusu Naam, shaka zake zote, vifungo vya kidunia na dhambi za awali zinaangamizwa.
ਸੋਈ ਬਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਨ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਏਕ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੭॥
so-ee bas ras man milay gun nirgun ayk bichaar. ||7||
Restraining his mind that person enjoys bliss of union with God and he realizes that the tangible and the intangible God as one. ||7||
Akizuia akili yake mtu huyo anafurahia raha tele ya muungano na Mungu na anagundua Mungu anayegusika na asiyegusika kama Mmoja na sawa.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕੀਏ ਟਾਰੀ ਨ ਟਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਫਾਸ ॥
anik jatan nigreh kee-ay taaree na tarai bharam faas.
We may try in vain many ways to restrain the mind, but we cannot ward off the noose of doubt.
Tunaweza kujaribu bila mafanikio njia nyingi za kuzuia akili, lakini hatuwezi kuepusha kitanzi cha shaka.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੮॥੧॥
paraym bhagat nahee oopjai taa tay ravidaas udaas. ||8||1||
Loving devotion for God does not well up by following these rites and rituals, so Ravi Daas has abandoned them all. ||8||1||
Ujitoaji wa upendo kwa Mungu hautokei kwa kufuata mila na desturi hizi, hivyo basi Ravi Daas ameziacha zote.
