ਹੁਕਮੀ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਭਾਣੀਐ ॥
hukmee paiDhaa jaa-ay dargeh bhaanee-ai.
According to God’s will, one goes to His presence and receives honor.
Kulingana na mapenzi ya Mungu, mtu anaenda kwa uwepo Wake na kupokea staha.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰ ਬੰਦਿ ਰਬਾਣੀਐ ॥੫॥
hukmay hee sir maar band rabaanee-ai. ||5||
It is also according to God’s will that soul receives punishment for the sinsin the form of going through different births. ||5||
Ni kulingana na mapenzi ya Mungu pia kwamba roho inapokea adhabu kwa dhambi katika muundo wa kupitia kuzaliwa tofauti.
ਲਾਹਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ॥
laahaa sach ni-aa-o man vasaa-ee-ai.
The wealth of Naam is earned by enshrining truth and justice in the mind.
Utajiri wa Naam unapatwa kwa kuthamini ukweli na haki akilini.
ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ਗਰਬੁ ਵਞਾਈਐ ॥੬॥
likhi-aa palai paa-ay garab vanjaa-ee-ai. ||6||
We should destroy our ego because one receives what is written in his lot. ||6||
Tunapaswa kuangamiza ubinafsi wetu kwa sababu mtu anapokea kile ambacho kimeandikwa katika fungu lake.
ਮਨਮੁਖੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰ ਵਾਦਿ ਖਪਾਈਐ ॥
manmukhee-aa sir maar vaad khapaa-ee-ai.
The self-willed soul-bride is consumed by conflicts of Maya and is punished through the cycles of birth and deaths.
Roho-bi harusi mwenye hiari binafsi anavama katika mizozo ya Maya na anaadhibiwa kupitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਠਗਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ॥੭॥
thag muthee koorhi-aar baneh chalaa-ee-ai. ||7||
Such a false soul-bride is deceived and is driven away bound in chains of worldly attachments. ||7||
Roho-bi harusi kama huyo asiye wa kweli anadanganywa na kufukuzwa akiwa amefungwa na nyororo za viambatisho vya kidunia.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹੀ ॥
saahib ridai vasaa-ay na pachhotaavhee.
Enshrine God in your heart and you shall not have to repent in the end.
Thamini Mungu moyoni mwako na hutahitajika kutubu mwishowe.
ਗੁਨਹਾਂ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਵਹੀ ॥੮॥
gunhaaN bakhsanhaar sabad kamaavahee. ||8||
Follow the Guru’s word and sing the praises of that God, who forgives sins. ||8||
Fuata neno la Guru na uimbe sifa za Mungu huyo, ambaye anasamehe dhambi.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲੀਐ ॥
naanak mangai sach gurmukh ghaalee-ai.
O’ God, Nanak begs for the gift of Your eternal Name so that I may make this effort of moulding myself according to the Guru’s teachings.
Ee Mungu, Nanak anaomba tuzo ya Jina lako la milele ili niweze kufanya jitihada hii ya kujifinyanga kulingana na mafundisho ya Guru.
ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ॥੯॥੧੬॥
mai tujh bin avar na ko-ay nadar nihaalee-ai. ||9||16||
Except You, I have no one else to look to; please bless me with Your glance of grace. ||9||16||
Isipokuwa Wewe, sinamwengine yeyote wa kumgeukia; tafadhali nibariki na mtazamo wako wa neema.

ਕਿਆ ਜੰਗਲੁ ਢੂਢੀ ਜਾਇ ਮੈ ਘਰਿ ਬਨੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲਾ ॥
ki-aa jangal dhoodhee jaa-ay mai ghar ban haree-aavlaa.
Why should I go searching God in the forests, when God is dwelling in my heart making it evergreen.
Kwa nini niende kumtafuta Mungu nyikani, wakati Mungu anaishi moyoni mwangu akiifanya iwe kijani kibichi milele.
ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਤਾਵਲਾ ॥੧॥
sach tikai ghar aa-ay sabad utaavalaa. ||1||
One who follows the Guru’s word and attunes to God; he instantaneously realizes God’s presence in his heart. ||1||
Yule anayefuata neno la Guru na kumakinikia Mungu; anagundua uwepo wa Mungu mara moja moyoni mwake.
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਸੋਇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
jah daykhaa tah so-ay avar na jaanee-ai.
Wherever I look, there He is; I know no one else.
Popote ninapoangalia, hapo Yeye yupo; sijui yeyote mwengine.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kee kaar kamaa-ay mahal pachhaanee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By following the Guru’s teachings, one realizes God’s presence everywhere. ||1||Pause||
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, mtu anagundua uwepo wa Mungu kila mahali. ||1|Sitisha||
ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਈ ॥
aap milaavai sach taa man bhaav-ee.
When God imbues a person with His Love, then He becomes pleasing to that person’s heart.
Wakati Mungu anampa mtu Upendo Wake, basi Yeye anakuwa wa kupendeza moyoni mwa mtu huyo.
ਚਲੈ ਸਦਾ ਰਜਾਇ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵਈ ॥੨॥
chalai sadaa rajaa-ay ank samaava-ee. ||2||
That person then lives by His Will and merges into His Being. ||2||
Kisha mtu huyo anaishi kwa Mapenzi yake na kuungana na Yeye.
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
sachaa saahib man vasai vasi-aa man so-ee.
One who realizes the Master-God in the heart, then he beholds that God permeating everywhere .
Yule anayegundua Bwana-Mungu moyoni, basi anatazama Mungu huyo akipenyeza kila mahali.
ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
aapay day vadi-aa-ee-aa day tot na ho-ee. ||3||
God Himself grants greatness and His Gifts never run short. ||3||
Mungu Mwenyewe anaruzuku ukuu na Zawadi zake kamwe hazipungui.
ਅਬੇ ਤਬੇ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
abay tabay kee chaakree ki-o dargeh paavai.
How can one realize God’s presence by worshiping ordinary people?
Mtu anawezaje kugundua uwepo wa Mungu kwa kuabudu watu wa kawaida?
ਪਥਰ ਕੀ ਬੇੜੀ ਜੇ ਚੜੈ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਬੁਡਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
pathar kee bayrhee jay charhai bhar naal budaavai. ||4||
One who embarks on a boat of stone (one who lives a sinful life), drowns in the world ocean of vices. ||4||
Yule anayesafiri kwenye mashua ya mawe (yule anayeishi maisha yenye dhambi), anazama katika bahari dunia ya dhambi.
ਆਪਨੜਾ ਮਨੁ ਵੇਚੀਐ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
aapnarhaa man vaychee-ai sir deejai naalay.
If we surrender our intellect (mind) and ego to the Guru,
Iwapo tusalimishe uwekevu (akili) wetu na ubinafsi kwa Guru,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਅਪਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ॥੫॥
gurmukh vasat pachhaanee-ai apnaa ghar bhaalay. ||5||
then by searching our heart through the Guru’s teachings we recognize the wealth of Naam within. ||5||
basi kwa kutafuta moyoni mwetu kupitia mafundisho ya Guru tunatambua utajiri wa Naam ndani mwetu.
ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਕੀਆ ॥
jaman marnaa aakhee-ai tin kartai kee-aa.
People talk about the birth and death which the Creator has created Himself.
Watu wanazungumza kuhusu kuzaliwa na kufa ambako Muumba ameumba Mwenyewe.
ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਥੀਆ ॥੬॥
aap gavaa-i-aa mar rahay fir maran na thee-aa. ||6||
Those who eradicate their ego and remain detached from Maya (worldly desires), do not fall in the cycle of birth and death. ||6||
Wale wanaoondoa ubinafsi wao na kubaki wamejitenga kutoka kwa Maya (hamu za kidunia), hawaanguki katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਸਾਈ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥
saa-ee kaar kamaavnee Dhur kee furmaa-ee.
One does those deeds which are preordained for him.
Yule anayetenda vitendo ambavyo ameagiziwa mapema kufanya.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਕਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
jay man satgur day milai kin keemat paa-ee. ||7||
If one surrenders his mind to the true Guru and remains attuned to the love of God, then no one can estimate his worth. ||7||
Iwapo mtu asalimishe akili yake kwa Guru wa kweli na asalie amemakinikia upendo wa Mungu, basi hakuna mtu anaweza kukadiria thamani yake.
ਰਤਨਾ ਪਾਰਖੁ ਸੋ ਧਣੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
ratnaa paarakh so Dhanee tin keemat paa-ee.
God Himself evaluates the jewel like virtues of that mind and He himself decides their worth.
Mungu Mwenyewe anachunguza fadhila kama vito za akili hiyo na Yeye Mwenyewe anaamua thamani yao.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੮॥੧੭॥
naanak saahib man vasai sachee vadi-aa-ee. ||8||17||
O’ Nanak, true is the Glory of the one, who has realized God’s presence in his heart. ||8||17||
Ee Nanak, wa kweli ni Utkufu wa yule, ambaye amegundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwake.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
jinHee naam visaari-aa doojai bharam bhulaa-ee.
Those who are lost in false illusions and have forsaken God’s Name,
Wale ambao wamepotea katika njozi za uongo na wameacha Jina la Mungu,
ਮੂਲੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਡਾਲੀ ਲਗੇ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਛਾਈ ॥੧॥
mool chhod daalee lagay ki-aa paavahi chhaa-ee. ||1||
their condition is like those who forsake the strong trunk of a tree (God) and cling to a mere branch (Maya); they would obtain nothing but dust. ||1||
hali yao ni kama wale wanaoacha shina thabiti la mti (Mungu) na kukwamilia tawi hafifu (Maya); hawatapata chochote ila mchanga.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਜੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
bin naavai ki-o chhootee-ai jay jaanai ko-ee.
If someone understands that no one can be saved from the affects of Mayawithout meditating on Naam,
Iwapo mtu anaelewa kwamba hakuna anayeweza kuokolewa kutoka kwa athari za Maya bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam,
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਛੂਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh ho-ay ta chhootee-ai manmukh pat kho-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
then by following the Guru’s teachings that person escapes from the love for Maya; the self-willed persons lose their honor. ||1||Pause||
basi kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru mtu huyo anaepuka kutoka upendo wa Maya; watu wenye hiari binafsi wanapoteza staha yao. ||1|Sitisha||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
jinHee ayko sayvi-aa pooree mat bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, perfect is the intellect of those who meditate on God.
Ee ndugu, kamili ni uwekevu wa wale wanaotafakari kuhusu Mungu.
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੨॥
aad jugaad niranjanaa jan har sarnaa-ee. ||2||
Such devotees remain in God’s refuge who has been there since even before the beginning of the ages and who is not affected by Maya. ||2||
Watawa kama hao wanabaki katika kimbilio cha Mungu ambaye amekuwepo tangu hata kabla ya mwanzo wa enzi na ambaye haathiriwi na Maya.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
saahib mayraa ayk hai avar nahee bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, my Master is the one and only God, except Him there is none other.
Ee ndugu, Bwana wangu ni Mungu mmoja wa wa kipekee, isipokwa Yeye hakuna mwengine.
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੇ ਪਰਥਾਈ ॥੩॥
kirpaa tay sukh paa-i-aa saachay parthaa-ee. ||3||
I have enjoyed celestial peace by the grace and support of the eternal God. ||3||
Nimefurahia amani ya kimbingu kwa neema na tegemezo ya Mungu wa milele.
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਕੇਤੀ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
gur bin kinai na paa-i-o kaytee kahai kahaa-ay.
No matter what people say or quote, but no one has ever realized God without the Guru’s teachings.
Haijalishi watu wamesema au kunukuu nini, lakini hakuna mtu amewahi kugundua Mungu bila mafundisho ya Guru.
ਆਪਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਵਾਟੜੀਂ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੪॥
aap dikhaavai vaatrheeN sachee bhagat drirh-aa-ay. ||4||
On His own, God shows the right way to realize Him and implants His true devotional worship within the person. ||4||
Kwa hiari yake, Mungu anaonesha njia ya kweli ya kumgundua na kupandikiza ibada yake ya kweli ya ujitoaji ndani mwa mtu.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜੇ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਭੀ ਉਝੜਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
manmukh jay samjaa-ee-ai bhee ujharh jaa-ay.
A self-willed person goes astray, even if a right path is shown to him.
Mtu mwenye hiari binafsi anapotoka, hata iwapo aoneshwe njia sahihi.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਛੂਟਸੀ ਮਰਿ ਨਰਕ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੫॥
bin har naam na chhootsee mar narak samaa-ay. ||5||
Without meditating on God’s Name, that person will not be saved from following the wrong path and will suffer immense pain as if he is in hell. ||5||
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, mtu huyo hataokolewa kutoka kwa njia potovu na atateseka uchungu mkali kana kwamba yupo jehanamu.
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਰਮਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵੈ ॥
janam marai bharmaa-ee-ai har naam na layvai.
One who does not meditate on God’s Name, keeps on wandering in the cycles of birth and death.
Yule ambaye hatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, anaendelea kuzurura katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ॥੬॥
taa kee keemat naa pavai bin gur kee sayvai. ||6||
Without following the Guru’s teachings, the worth of God’s Name cannot be realized. ||6||
Bila kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, thamani ya Jina la Mungu haiwezi kugunduliwa.
