ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh tarasday jis maylay so milai har aa-ay.
Millions of species of lives, long to meet the Almighty. Only those get to meet Him whom He unites Himsel.
Mamilioni ya spishi ya maisha, wanatamani kukutana na Mwenyezi. Ni wale tu ambao wanapata kukutana naye ambao anaunganisha naye.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੯॥
naanak gurmukh har paa-i-aa sadaa har naam samaa-ay. ||4||6||39||
O’ Nanak, those who follow the Guru with utmost reverence and are always absorbed in God’s Naam with complete humility, reach the Almighty.
Ee Nanak, wale wanaofuata Guru kwa heshima kamili na daima wamezama katika Naam ya Mungu kwa unyenyekevu kamili, wanafikia Mwenyezi Mungu.

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
sukh saagar har naam hai gurmukh paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
God’s Naam is like an ocean of joys, and it is obtained through the Guru’s grace.
Naam ya Mungu ni kama bahari ya faraja, na inapokelewa kupitia neema ya Guru.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
an-din naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai sehjay naam samaa-ay.
To easily merges in His Name, one should always meditate on God’s Name,following the Gueu’s teachings.
Kuungana kwa urahisi na jina lake, mtu daima anafaa kutafakari kuhusu jina la Mungu, akifuata mafundisho ya Guru.
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਰਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚ ਸਿਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥
andar rachai har sach si-o rasnaa har gun gaa-ay. ||1||
This way, our heart becomes imbued with the eternal God and our tongue (automatically) sings God’s praises.
Kwa njia hii, moyo wetu unajawa na Mungu wa milele na ulimi wetu (moja kwa moja) unaimba sifa za Mungu.
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray jag dukhee-aa doojai bhaa-ay.
O’ brother, the world is in misery engrossed in the love for duality.
Ee ndugu, dunia hii ipo katika taabu ikijihusisha katika upendo wa uwili.
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur sarnaa-ee sukh laheh an-din naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In the refuge of the Guru, peace is found by always meditating on the Naam.
Katika kimbilio cha Guru, amani inapatikana kwa kutafakari daima kuhusu Naam.
ਸਾਚੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
saachay mail na laag-ee man nirmal har Dhi-aa-ay.
By meditating on the God, the minds remain pure, and purified mind is not stained by the filth of vices.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu, akili inabaki safi, akili iliyosafishwa haichafuliwi na uchafu wa dhambi.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
gurmukh sabad pachhaanee-ai har amrit naam samaa-ay.
Through the Guru’s Word, God is realized and one merges in the nectar of His Naam.
Kupitia neno la Guru, Mungu anagunduliwa kisha mtu anaungana na nekta ya Naam yake.
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੁ ਬਲਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur gi-aan parchand balaa-i-aa agi-aan anDhayraa jaa-ay. ||2||
The Guru has lit the brilliant light of spiritual wisdom, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.
Guru amewasha nuru inayometameta ya busara ya kiroho, na giza ya ujinga imeondolewa.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
manmukh mailay mal bharay ha-umai tarisnaa vikaar.
The self-willed manmukh are polluted with vices. They are filled with the pollution of egotism, wickedness and desire.
Manmukh wenye wasia ya kibinafsi wamechafuliwa na dhambi. Wamejawa na uchafuzi wa ubinafsi, uovu na tamaa.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
bin sabdai mail na utrai mar jameh ho-ay khu-aar.
Since, they do not meditate on God, this pollution (of egotism etc.) is not washed off and, they live in misery though the cycles of death and birth.
Kwani, hawatafakari kuhusu Mungu, uchafuzi huu (ya ubinafsi, na kadhalika) hausafishwi na, wanaishi katika taabu kupitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.
ਧਾਤੁਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਲਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
Dhaatur baajee palach rahay naa urvaar na paar. ||3||
Engrossed in the illusory play of the world, they are not at ease in either this world or the next.
Wakijihusisha katika mchezo wa kindoto wa dunia, hawana utulivu kwa dunia hii ama itakayofuata.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
gurmukh jap tap sanjmee har kai naam pi-aar.
Because of their love for God’s Naam, the Guru’s followers have the merits of worship, penance, and restraint.
Kwa sababu ya upendo wao wa Naam ya Mungu, wafuasi wa Guru wana sifa za ibada, toba na kujizuia.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
gurmukh sadaa Dhi-aa-ee-ai ayk naam kartaar.
With the Guru’s guidance, one should always meditate upon the one Creator.
Kwa mwongozo wa Guru, mtu anafaa kutafakari daima kuhusu Muumba Mmoja.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੦॥
naanak naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai sabhnaa jee-aa kaa aaDhaar. ||4||7||40||
O’ Nanak, let us meditate on God’s Name who is the support of all beings.
Ee Nanak, hebu tutafakari kuhusu jina la Mungu ambaye ni nguzo ya viumbe vyote.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
manmukh mohi vi-aapi-aa bairaag udaasee na ho-ay.
The self-conceited is so entangled in material attachment, that such a person can neither be in love with God, nor can get detached from worldly wealth.
Mwenye majivuno ya kibinafsi amenaswa zaidi na viambatanisho vya vitu, ya kwamba mtu kama huyo hawezi kumpenda Mungu, wala kujitenga na utajiri wa kidunia.
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
sabad na cheenai sadaa dukh har dargahi pat kho-ay.
(The self-conceited) does not contemplate on the Guru’s word and therefore, remains in grief, and is disgraced at God’s court.
(Mwenye majivuno ya kibinafsi) hatafakari kuhusu neno la Guru na hivyo basi, anabaki katika huzuni, na anaaibishwa katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਈਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
ha-umai gurmukh kho-ee-ai naam ratay sukh ho-ay. ||1||
By the Guru’s grace, egoism is shed and mind is imbued in Naam resulting in achievement of spiritual bliss.
Kwa neema ya Guru, ubinafsi unaachwa na akili inajawa na Naam ikisababisha kufanikisha furaha tele ya kiroho.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ॥
mayray man ahinis poor rahee nit aasaa.
O’ my mind, day and night, you remain filled with worldly desires.
Ee akili yangu, mchana na usiku, unabaki umetosheka na tamaa za kidunia.
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰਜਲੈ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur sayv moh parjalai ghar hee maahi udaasaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By following the Guru’s teachings the attachment with worldly riches is burnt away. Even amidst the world, man’s state of mind becomes that of an ascetic.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru kiambatanisho cha utajiri wa kidunia kinaondolewa. Hata katikati mwa dunia, hali ya kiakili ya binadamu inakuwa kama ya aliyejitenga.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
gurmukh karam kamaavai bigsai har bairaag anand.
The Guru’s follower does the deeds ordained by the Guru and remains delighted from within, because within that person, there is love for God and there is bliss.
Mfuasi wa Guru anatenda vitendo vilivyoagizwa na Guru na anabaki amefurahia kindani, kwa sababu ndani mwa mtu huyo, kuna upendo kwa Mungu na kuna furaha tele.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਚੰਦੁ ॥
ahinis bhagat karay din raatee ha-umai maar nichand.
Such a person is absorbed in devotion to God, day and night. And, with ego discarded, this person stays carefree.
Mtu kama huyo amezama katika ibada kwa Mungu, mchana na usiku. Na, ubinafsi ukiwa umetupwa, mtu huyo anabaki bila wasiwasi wowote.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥੨॥
vadai bhaag satsangat paa-ee har paa-i-aa sahj anand. ||2||
By good fortune (such a person) has found company of saintly persons and has realized God with peace and bliss.
Kwa bahati nzuri (mtu kama huyo) amepata urafiki wa watu watakatifu na amegundua Mungu kwa amani na furaha tele.
ਸੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੋਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
so saaDhoo bairaagee so-ee hirdai naam vasaa-ay.
He alone is a saint, in whose heart is lodged the holy Naam of God.
Yeye pekee yake ni mtakatifu, ambaye moyoni mwake imekaa Naam takatifu ya Mungu.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਮੂਲੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
antar laag na taamas moolay vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
His inner being is not touched by anger or dark energies at all; he has lost his selfishness and conceit.
Nafsi yake haishikiwi na hasira ama nguvu za giza hata kidogo; amepoteza uchoyo na majivuno yake.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਅਘਾਏ ॥੩॥
naam niDhaan satguroo dikhaali-aa har ras pee-aa aghaa-ay. ||3||
The True Guru has revealed to him the treasure of God’s Name; he relishes the Sublime Essence of God, and is satisfied.
Guru wa kweli amemjulisha hazina ya jina la Mungu; anafurahia kiini tukufu cha Mungu, kisha anaridhika.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥
jin kinai paa-i-aa saaDhsangtee poorai bhaag bairaag.
Whoever has realized God, has done so by perfect good fortune, by engaging in the adoration of God in the holy congregation.
Yeyote ambaye amegundua Mungu, amefanya hivyo kwa bahati nzuri kamili, kwa kujihusisha katika kuabudu Mungu katika ushirika takatifu.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥
manmukh fireh na jaaneh satgur ha-umai andar laag.
The self-willed manmukhs wander around lost, but they do not know the True Guru. They are inwardly attached to egotism.
Manmukh wenye wasia wa kibinafsi wanazurura wakiwa wamepotea, lakini hawajui Guru wa kweli. Kwa undani wameambatana na ubinafsi.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕੇਹੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੧॥
naanak sabad ratay har naam rangaa-ay bin bhai kayhee laag. ||4||8||41||
O’ Nanak, those who are attuned to the Guru’s word are imbued in God’s love. Without the revered fear of God, one cannot be imbued with the love for God.
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wamemakinikia neno la Guru wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu. Bila woga wa heshima wa Mungu, mtu hawezi kujawa na upendo kwa Mungu.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸਉਦਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਭ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ghar hee sa-udaa paa-ee-ai antar sabh vath ho-ay.
One can find the wealth of Naam in one’s own self . What one seeks, is all there within the body.
Mtu hawezi kupata utajiri wa Naam kwa nafsi yake mwenyewe. Chochote mtu anachotafuta, kipo chote ndani mwa mwili.
ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
khin khin naam samaalee-ai gurmukh paavai ko-ay.
By listening to the Guru and by contemplation upon God’s Naam each and every moment, the wealth of Naam is procured by the Guru’s followers.
Kwa kusikiza Guru na kutafakari kuhusu Naam ya Mungu kila wakati, utajiri wa Naam inapokelewa na wafuasi wa Guru.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥f
naam niDhaan akhut hai vadbhaag paraapat ho-ay. ||1||
The Treasure of the Naam is inexhaustible. By great good fortune, it is obtained.
Hazina ya Naam haiwezi kumalizika. Kwa bahati nzuri kuu, inapokelewa.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਜਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
mayray man taj nindaa ha-umai ahaNkaar.
O, my mind, give up slander, egotism and arrogance.
Ee akili yangu, jitenge na kashfa, ubinafsi na kiburi.
