Na Guru wa Tatu:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥
satgur sayv sukh paa-i-aa sach naam guntaas.
One who has followed the teachings of the true Guru, has obtained peace and realized God, the Treasure of virtues.
Yule ambaye amefuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, amepata amani na kugundua Mungu, Hazina ya fadhila.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
gurmatee aap pachhaani-aa raam naam pargaas.
Through the Guru’s teachings, he recognizeshis own self, and within him shines the divine light of God’s Name.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, anatambua nafsi yake mwenyewe, na ndani mwake unang’aa mwanga takatifu wa Jina la Mungu.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
sacho sach kamaavanaa vadi-aa-ee vaday paas.
He meditates on the eternal Naam and is honored in God’s court.
Anatafakari kuhusu Naam ya milele na anaheshimika katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
jee-o pind sabh tis kaa sifat karay ardaas.
He believes that body and soul are gifts of God, therefore he always praises Him and prays for His Grace.
Anasadiki ya kwamba mwili na roho ni tuzo za Mungu, hivyo basi daima anamsifu na kumwomba kupata Neema yake.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
sachai sabad salaahnaa sukhay sukh nivaas.
By prasing the eternal God through the Guru’s word and lives in perfect bliss.
Kwa kusifu Mungu wa milele kupitia neno la Guru na kuishi katika furaha tele kamili.
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸੁ ॥
jap tap sanjam manai maahi bin naavai Dharig jeevaas.
Enshrining God’s praises in the mind is the real worship, penance, and self-restraint, and accursed is the life without contemplation of (God’s) Name.
Kuweka vizuri sifa za Mungu akilini ni ibada halisi, toba, kujizuia, na yamelaaniwa maisha bila kutafakari Jina (la Mungu).
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥
gurmatee naa-o paa-ee-ai manmukh mohi vinaas.
Naam is obtained by following Guru’s teachings. The self-willed person wastes away his human life in emotional attachments.
Naam inapatikana kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru. Mtu mwenye wasia binafsi anaharibu maisha yake ya kibinadamu bure katika viambatisho vya kihisia.
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੨॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh tooN naanak tayraa daas. ||2||
O’ God, save me as it pleases You,Nanak is Your servant.
Ee Mungu, niokoe inavyokupendeza, Nanak ni mtumishi wako.

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਸੁ ਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
sabh ko tayraa tooN sabhas daa tooN sabhnaa raas.
O’ God, all beings are Your creation, You are the Master of all. You are the sustainer of all.
Ee Mungu, viumbe vyote ni uumbaji wako, Wewe ndiwe Bwana wa vyote, Wewe ndiwe mtunzaji kwa wote.
ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
sabh tuDhai paashu mangday nit kar ardaas.
Everyone begs from You, by praying to You day after day.
Kila mtu anaomba kutoka kwako, kwa kutoa sala kwako siku baada ya siku.
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕਨਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jis tooN deh tis sabh kichh milai iknaa door hai paas.
The one, whom You give, obtains everything. For some You seem far, but for some You are always with them.
Yule, ambaye unampa, anapata vyote. Kwa wengine unaonekana kuwa mbali, lakini kwa wengine daima upo nao.
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਥਾਉ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਜਾਸਿ ॥
tuDh baajhahu thaa-o ko naahee jis paashu mangee-ai man vaykhhu ko nirjaas.
Let anyone verify in the mind, he would conclude that)except You, there is none other from whom we can beg.
(Acha mtu yeyote achunguze akilini, atahitimisha ya kwamba) pasi Wewe, hakuna yeyote mwengine ambaye tunaweza kuomba kutoka kwake.
ਸਭਿ ਤੁਧੈ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੯॥
sabh tuDhai no salaahday dar gurmukhaa no pargaas. ||9||
O’ God, although allpraise You,but it is only the Guru’s followers, who are truly recognized and honored at Your court.
Ee Mungu, ingawa wote wanakusifu, lakini ni wafuasi wa Guru pekee, ambao kwa kweli wanatambulika na kuheshimika katika mahakama yako.

Shalok, na Guru wa Tatu:
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਉਚਾ ਕੂਕਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
pandit parh parh uchaa kookdaa maa-i-aa mohi pi-aar.
After reading again and again, the Pandit loudly recite scriptures for the love of Maya, (rather than for the love of God or spiritual uplift of the listeners).
Baada ya kusoma tena na tena, mwalimu mwenye busara anakariri maandishi kwa sauti kubwa kutokana na upendo wa Maya, (badala ya kwa upendo wa Mungu ama kuinuliwa kiroho kwa wasikizaji).
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਈ ਮਨਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
antar barahm na cheen-ee man moorakh gaavaar.
He does not recognize God within, he is so foolish and ignorant.
Yeye hamtambui Mungu ndani mwake, ni mpumbavu zaidi na mjinga.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਦਾ ਨਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay jagat parboDhadaa naa boojhai beechaar.
He preaches to the world, in the love of duality, but he himself does not understand divine knowledge.
Anahubiria dunia, katika upendo wa uwili, lakini yeye mwenyewe haelewi maarifa takatifu.
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
birthaa janam gavaa-i-aa mar jammai vaaro vaar. ||1||
He wastes away his life uselessly and go through the cycles of birth and death.
Anaharibu maisha yake bure na kupitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

Salok, by the Third Guru:
Salok, na Guru wa Tatu:
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨੀ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
jinee satgur sayvi-aa tinee naa-o paa-i-aa boojhhu kar beechaar.
Reflect on this and understand, only they who have served the True Guru byfollowing His teachings have realized God.
Tafakari kuhusu haya na uelewe, ni wale tu ambao wametumikia Guru wa kweli kwa kufuata mafundisho yake ambao wamemgundua Mungu.
ਸਦਾ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
sadaa saaNt sukh man vasai chookai kook pukaar.
Peace and contentment always abide in their mind, and all their wailing and crying comes to an end.
Amani na kutoshelezwa daima zinakaa akilini mwao, na kuomboleza na kulia kwao kwote kunatamatika.
ਆਪੈ ਨੋ ਆਪੁ ਖਾਇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
aapai no aap khaa-ay man nirmal hovai gur sabdee veechaar.
By shedding ego, their mind becomes immaculate. This understanding is obtained by reflecting on the Guru’s word.
Kwa kuacha ubinafsi, akili zao zinakuwa na weupe. Uelewa huu unapatikana kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
naanak sabad ratay say mukat hai har jee-o hayt pi-aar. ||2||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with the Guru’s word are liberated from the vices, (because) they are attuned to the love of God.
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wamejawa na neno la Guru wanakombolewa kutoka dhambi, (kwa sababu) wamemakinika kwa upendo wa Mungu.

Pauree:
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਥਾਇ ॥
har kee sayvaa safal hai gurmukh paavai thaa-ay.
Meditation on God’s Name is Fruitful for all, but it meets God’s approval only when performed following Guru’s guidance.
Kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu ni kwenye manufaa kwa wote, lakini kunapata kibali tu wakati kunatendwa kwa kufuata mwongozo wa Guru.
ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
jis har bhaavai tis gur milai so har naam Dhi-aa-ay.
That person, with whom God is pleased, meets with the Guru, and only that person meditates on God’s Name.
Mtu huyo, ambaye Mungu amependezwa naye, anakutana na Guru, na ni mtu huyo tu anayetafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲਘਾਇ ॥
gur sabdee har paa-ee-ai har paar laghaa-ay.
Through the word of the Guru, we realize God. And God helps us swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
Kupitia neno la Guru, tunamgundua Mungu. Na Mungu anatusaidia kuogelea tukivuka bahari dunia ya dhambi.
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
manhath kinai na paa-i-o puchhahu vaydaa jaa-ay.
Through stubborn-mindedness, none have realized God; go and consult the Vedas on this.
Kupitia ukaidi wa kiakili, hakuna ambao wamegundua Mungu; nenda ushauriane na Vedas kuhusu hiyo.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
naanak har kee sayvaa so karay jis la-ay har laa-ay. ||10||
O’ Nanak, he alone meditates on God’s Name, whom He Himself blesses with His meditation.
Ee Nanak, yeye pekee anatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu. Ambaye Mungu mwenyewe anabariki na kutafakari kwake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੂਰਾ ਵਰੀਆਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਅਹੰਕਰਣੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
naanak so sooraa varee-aam jin vichahu dusat ahankaran maari-aa.
O’ Nanak, he is a brave warrior, who conquers his vicious inner ego.
Ee Nanak, yeye ni shujaa jasiri, anayetawala ubinfasi matata mdani mwake.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
gurmukh naam saalaahi janam savaari-aa.
The Guru’s follower has redeemed his life by Praising God’s Name.
Mfuasi wa Guru amekomboa maisha yake kwa kusifu Jina la Mungu.
ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੁਲੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥
aap ho-aa sadaa mukat sabh kul nistaari-aa.
Forever he is liberated from the vices and also liberates his entire Family.
Daima amekombolewa kutoka dhambi na pia anakomboa familia yake yote.
ਸੋਹਨਿ ਸਚਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
sohan sach du-aar naam pi-aari-aa.
Such lovers of Naam look beauteous and honorable in the God’s court.
Wanaopenda Naam kama hao wanakaa vizuri na wenye heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਿਆ ॥
manmukh mareh ahaNkaar maran vigaarhi-aa.
The self-willed persons die of their ego, and die so painfully that they even degrade dying.
Watu wenye wasia binafsi wanakufa kutoka na ubinafsi wao, na wanakufa kwa uchungu uliokithiri hadi hata wanashusha hadhi kufa.
ਸਭੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆ ॥
sabho vartai hukam ki-aa karahi vichaari-aa.
Everything happens according to the God’s Will; what can the poor people do?
Kila kitu kinatendeka kulingana na Wasia wa Mungu; watu maskini wanaweza kufanya nini?
ਆਪਹੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
aaphu doojai lag khasam visaari-aa.
These self-willed people instead of reflecting on themselves, become attached to the worldly riches and forsake the Master.
Watu hao wenye wasia binafsi badala ya kutafakari kujihusu, wanajiambatisha kwa utajiri wa kidunia na kumwacha Bwana.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
naanak bin naavai sabh dukh sukh visaari-aa. ||1||
O’ Nanak, without the Naam, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten.
Ee Nanak, bila Naam, kila kitu ni uchungu, na furaha inasahaulika.

Na Guru wa Tatu:
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
gur poorai har naam dirhaa-i-aa tin vichahu bharam chukaa-i-aa.
They, in whom the perfect Guru has firmly implanted Naam, have dispelled any doubts from within.
Wao, ambao ndani mwao Guru kamili amepandikiza kwa uthabiti Naam, wameondoa shaka yoyote kutoka ndani mwao
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਮਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
raam naam har keerat gaa-ee kar chaanan mag dikhaa-i-aa.
They sing the praises of God which illuminates their mind and they see the right way of life.
Wanaimba sifa za Mungu zinazoangaza akili zao na wanaona mtindo sahihi wa maisha.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai maar ayk liv laagee antar naam vasaa-i-aa.
Destroying ego, they are attuned to God and enshrine Him in their heart.
Wakiangamiza ubinafsi, wamemakinika kwa Mungu na wanamweka vizuri mioyoni mwao.
