ਰੇ ਨਰ ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਜਬ ਆਛਤ ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
ray nar garabh kundal jab aachhat uraDh Dhi-aan liv laagaa.
O’ human being, when you were coiled in the cradle of the womb, upside-down and you were absorbed in meditation.
Ee binadamu, wakati ulizongomewa katika mlazi wa chupa ya uzazi, kichwa chini miguu juu na ukikuwa umezama katika kutafakari.
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਪਿੰਡਿ ਪਦ ਮਦ ਨਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਏਕੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸੁ ਨਾਗਾ ॥
mirtak pind pad mad naa ahinis ayk agi-aan so naagaa.
You took no pride in your perishable body and status. Day and night you were absorbed in remembering God, and there was complete absence of ignorance.
Hukuhisi fahari katika mwili wako unaoangamia na hadhi. Mchana na usiku ulizama katika kumkumbuka Mungu, na kulikuwa na ukosefu wa ujinga kabisa.
ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖ ਅਬ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
tay din sammal kasat mahaa dukh ab chit aDhik pasaari-aa.
Recall the terrible pain and suffering of those days in the womb, but now you have spread your mind too much in worldly attachments.
Kumbuka uchungu mkali na kuteseka kwa siku hizo tumboni mwa mama, lakini sasa umeeneza akili yako zaidi katika viambatisho vya kidunia
ਗਰਭ ਛੋਡਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਆਇਆ ਤਉ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
garabh chhod mitar mandal aa-i-aa ta-o narhar manhu bisaari-aa. ||1||
Leaving the womb, you entered this mortal world; you have forgotten God from your mind.
Ukitoka kwenye chupa cha uzazi, uliingia dunia hii ya kibinadamu; umesahau Mungu kutoka akili yako.
ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿਗਾ ਮੂੜਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਕਵਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
fir pachhutaavhigaa moorhi-aa tooN kavan kumat bharam laagaa.
O’ fool you will repent latter, in what evil thinking and delusion you have fallen?
Ee mpumbavu utatubu baadaye, ni katika fikira gani mbaya na uongo ambao umeangukia?
ਚੇਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਚਰੈ ਅਨਰਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chayt raam naahee jam pur jaahigaa jan bichrai anraaDhaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Remember God, otherwise you will be sent to the city of death (cycles of births and death). Forgetful of God, you are wandering unrestrained animal.
Mkumbuke Mungu, ama sivyo utatumwa kwa jiji la kifo (mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa). Kwa kumsahau Mungu, wewe ni mnyama asiyezuiliwa anayezurura.
ਬਾਲ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਰਸ ਲਾਗਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
baal binod chind ras laagaa khin khin mohi bi-aapai.
In childhood, you remained busy in playing and eating, your attachments for worldly pleasures kept increasing every moment.
Utotoni, ulibaki umejihusisha na kucheza na kula, viambatisho vyako vya raha za kidunia viliendelea kuongezeka kila wakati.
ਰਸੁ ਮਿਸੁ ਮੇਧੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਚਾਖੀ ਤਉ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥
ras mis mayDh amrit bikh chaakhee ta-o panch pargat santaapai.
You swallowed the poison of Maya considering it as tasty and pure nectar. Then, all five vices (greed, attachment, lust, anger and ego) started tormenting you.
Ulimeza sumu ya Maya ukiifikiria kuwa tamu na nekta iliyo safi. Kisha, maovu yote tano (tamaa, kiambatisho, ukware, hasira na ubinafsi) yakaanza kukutesa.
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ॥
jap tap sanjam chhod sukarit mat raam naam na araaDhi-aa.
Abandoning meditation, penance and self-restraint, and the wisdom of good deeds, you do not worship and adore God.
Kwa kuacha kutafakari, toba na kujizuia, na hekima ya vitendo vizuri, huabudu wala kumtukuza Mungu.
ਉਛਲਿਆ ਕਾਮੁ ਕਾਲ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਉ ਆਨਿ ਸਕਤਿ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੨॥
uchhli-aa kaam kaal mat laagee ta-o aan sakat gal baaNDhi-aa. ||2||
Lust is overflowing in your mind and your intellect is stained with darkness of evil thoughts.To satisfy your sexual urge, you were tied to your spouse.
Ukware unafurika akilini mwako na akili yako inachafuliwa na giza ya fikira mbaya. Kutimiza haja yako ya ngono, ulifungwa kwa mwenzio wa ndoa.
ਤਰੁਣ ਤੇਜੁ ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਮੁਖੁ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਸਰੁ ਅਪਸਰੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥
tarun tayj par tari-a mukh joheh sar apsar na pachhaani-aa.
In the heat of youthful passion, you continue looking at other women with evil intent and you do not distinguish between right and wrong.
Katika joto la shauku yako ya ujana, unaendelea kutazama wanawake wengine kwa nia mbaya wala hutofautishi kati ya mzuri na mbaya.
ਉਨਮਤ ਕਾਮਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਭੂਲੈ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
unmat kaam mahaa bikh bhoolai paap punn na pachhaani-aa.
Intoxicated with poison of lust, you go astray and you do not distinguish between vice and virtue.
Ukileweshwa na sumu ya ukware, unapotoka na hutofautishi kati ya maovu na fadhila.
ਸੁਤ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਗਰਬਿਆ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤੇ ਖੋਇਆ ॥
sut sampat daykh ih man garbi-aa raam ridai tay kho-i-aa.
Looking at the family and possessions, you are filled with pride and God is forsaken from your heart.
Ukitazama familia na mali, unajawa na fahari na Mungu anatengwa mutoka moyo wako.
ਅਵਰ ਮਰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਤੋਲੇ ਤਉ ਭਗ ਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਿਗੋਇਆ ॥੩॥
avar marat maa-i-aa man tolay ta-o bhag mukh janam vigo-i-aa. ||3||
At the death of others you calculate your share in their estate. In this way, you have wasted your life in the pleasures of the palate and lust.
Wengine wanapokufa unahesabu mgao wako katika mashamba yao. Kwa njia hii, umeharibu maisha yako katika raha za kaakaa na ukware.
ਪੁੰਡਰ ਕੇਸ ਕੁਸਮ ਤੇ ਧਉਲੇ ਸਪਤ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
pundar kays kusam tay Dha-ulay sapat paataal kee banee.
Your hair is whiter than the jasmine flower, and your voice has grown feeble, as if it comes from the seventh underworld.
Nywele yako ni nyeupe kuliko ua la jasmini, na sauti yako imedhoofika, kana kwamba inatoka kuzimu kwa saba.
ਲੋਚਨ ਸ੍ਰਮਹਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਲ ਨਾਠੀ ਤਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਪਵਸਿ ਮਾਧਾਣੀ ॥
lochan sarmeh buDh bal naathee taa kaam pavas maaDhaanee.
Your eyes water, and your intellect and strength have left you; but still, your sexual desire churns and drives you on.
Macho yako yanapata unyevu, na akili za nguvu zako zimekuacha; lakini bado, tamaa yako ya ngono inavuma na kukuchochea.
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥
taa tay bikhai bha-ee mat paavas kaa-i-aa kamal kumlaanaa.
That is why your intellect has been poisoned and your body has lost its strength and luster as if lotus of your body has wilted and withered.
Hiyo ndiyo maana akili yako imetiwa sumu na mwili wako umepoteza nguvu yake na umekuwa myonge kana kwamba lotasi ya mwili wako imenyauka na kukauka.
ਅਵਗਤਿ ਬਾਣਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲਿ ਤਉ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ॥੪॥
avgat baan chhod mitar mandal ta-o paachhai pachhutaanaa. ||4||
Forsaking the Divine Word, remaining too involved in mortal world, you would repent in the end.
Kuacha Neno Takatifu, kubaki umejishughulisha zaidi katika dunia ya kibinadamu, utatubu mwishowe.
ਨਿਕੁਟੀ ਦੇਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਮਾਨ ਕਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
nikutee dayh daykh Dhun upjai maan karat nahee boojhai.
Looking at the tiny tots, sense of joy and pride wells up but still one does not understand that soon one has to leave everything behind and depart.
Akiangalia watoto wadogo, hisia za furaha na faraha zinajaa lakini bado mtu haelewi ya kwamba hivi karibuni lazima mtu aache kila kitu nyuma na kuondoka.
ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੈ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
laalach karai jeevan pad kaaran lochan kachhoo na soojhai.
even when one cannot see any thing with one’s eyes, one desires to live more.
Hata wakati mtu hawezi kuona kitu chochote na macho yake, mtu bado anatamani kuishi zaidi.
ਥਾਕਾ ਤੇਜੁ ਉਡਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਂਗਨਿ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਈ ॥
thaakaa tayj udi-aa man pankhee ghar aaNgan na sukhaa-ee.
In the end, strength of the body ebbs away and soul flies away, then the (dead ) body lying in the courtyard does not look good.
Mwishowe, nguvu ya mwili inafifia na roho inapepea na kwenda, kisha mwili (mfu) unaolala kwenye uwanja haukai vizuri.
ਬੇਣੀ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਹੁ ਮਰਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥
baynee kahai sunhu ray bhagtahu maran mukat kin paa-ee. ||5||
Beni says, listen O devotees, no one has achieved salvation after death.
Beni anasema, sikizeni Ee wafuasi, hakuna mtu ametimiza wokovu baada ya kifo.

tohee mohee mohee tohee antar kaisaa.
O’ God, between You and me, or between me and You, what is the difference?
Ee Mungu, kati ya Wewe na mimi, au kati ya mimi na Wewe, kuna tofauti gani?
ਕਨਕ ਕਟਿਕ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਜੈਸਾ ॥੧॥
kanak katik jal tarang jaisaa. ||1||
The difference is no more than between gold and gold bracelets or between water and the waves of water.
Tofauti sio zaidi ya kati ya dhahabu na bangili za dhahabu au kati ya maji na mawimbi ya maji.
ਜਉ ਪੈ ਹਮ ਨ ਪਾਪ ਕਰੰਤਾ ਅਹੇ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥

O’ limitless Master, If we had not committed any sins,
Ee Bwana usiye na vikomo, iwapo tungekuwa hatujatenda dhambi.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਹੁੰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
patit paavan naam kaisay huntaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
how would You have acquired the name, ‘Redeemer of sinners’?
Wewe ungewezaje kupokea jina, ‘Mkombozi wa watenda dhambi’?
ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੁ ਨਾਇਕ ਆਛਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
tumH jo naa-ik aachhahu antarjaamee.
O’ God, You are our Master and knower of the minds.
Ee Mungu, Wewe ni Bwana wetu na mjua wa akili.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਨੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੨॥
parabh tay jan jaaneejai jan tay su-aamee. ||2||
Remember that the servant is judged by knowing how good is his Master, and the Master is judged by knowing how good is His servant.
Kumbuka ya kwamba mtumishi anahukumiwa kwa kujua uzuri wa Bwana wake, na Bwana anahukumiwa kwa kujua uzuri wa mtumishi wake.
ਸਰੀਰੁ ਆਰਾਧੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਦੇਹੂ ॥
sareer aaraaDhai mo ka-o beechaar dayhoo.
O’ God, bless me with this divine knowledge that I may worship You with loving devotion as long as I have this human body.
Ee Mungu, nibariki na maarifa haya takatifu niweze kukuabudu kwa kujitolea kwa upendo ili mradi nina mwili huu wa kibinadamu.
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਮ ਦਲ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ਕੋਊ ॥੩॥
ravidaas sam dal samjhaavai ko-oo. ||3||
I (Ravidas), wish that some Saint may make me realize that You pervade all hearts,
Mimi (Ravidas), ningependa mtakatifu yeyote anifanye nigundue ya kwamba Wewe unaenea katika mioyo yote.
