ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
sabad man rangi-aa liv laa-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, he has attuned his conscious to God’s Name and has imbued his mind with God’s love.
Kupitia neno la Guru, amemakinisha fahamu yake kwa Jina la Mungu na amejaza akili yake kwa upendo wa Mungu.
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
nij ghar vasi-aa parabh kee rajaa-ay. ||1||
In harmony with God’s will he has come to dwell in his real home (God’s abode).
Katika makubaliano na mapenzi ya Mungu amekuja kuishi katika nyumba yake ya kweli (makao ya Mungu).
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਜਾਇ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai jaa-ay abhimaan.
Serving the True Guru by following his teachings, egotistical pride departs,
Kutumia Guru wa Kweli kwa kufuata mafundisho yake, fahari ya ubinafsi inaondoka,
ਗੋਵਿਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
govid paa-ee-ai gunee niDhaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and God of the Universe, the Treasure of Excellence (virtues), is realized.
Na Mungu wa Ulimwengu, Hazina ya Ubora (fadhila), anagunduliwa.
ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਉ ਖਾਇ ॥
man bairaagee jaa sabad bha-o khaa-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, when one experiences the revered fear of God, his mind becomes detached from Maya.
Kupitia neno la Guru, wakati mtu anahisi uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu, akili yake inajitenga kutoka Maya.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਸਭ ਤੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
mayraa parabh nirmalaa sabh tai rahi-aa samaa-ay.
My Immaculate God is pervading in all and everywhere.
Mungu wangu safi anaenea katika vyote na kila mahali.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur kirpaa tay milai milaa-ay. ||2||
United by Guru’s grace, he is united with God Himself.
Akiunganishwa kwa neema ya Guru, anaunganishwa na Mungu Mwenyewe.
ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਦਾਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
har daasan ko daas sukh paa-ay.
The person, who becomes so humble that he considers himself as the servant of the servants of God, he enjoys the bliss.
Mtu, ambaye anakua myenyekevu zaidi hadi anajifikiria kuwa mtumishi wa watumishi wa Mungu, yeye anafurahia raha tele.
ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥
mayraa har parabh in biDh paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
My God is realized in this way.
Mungu wangu anagunduliwa kwa njia hii.
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੩॥
har kirpaa tay raam gun gaa-ay. ||3||
-and by God’s grace one comes to sing the Glorious Praises of God.
Na kwa neema ya Mungu mtu anakuja kuimba Sifa Tukufu za Mungu.
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਬਹੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
Dharig baho jeevan jit har naam na lagai pi-aar.
Cursed is that long life, in which a person does not develop love for God’s name.
Yamelaaniwa maisha hayo marefu, ambayo mtu hasitawishi upendo wa Jina la Mungu.
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
Dharig sayj sukhaalee kaaman moh gubaar.
Cursed is that cozy bed of a lady if it lures the person to the darkness of lust.
Kimelaaniwa kitanda hicho chenye starehe cha mwanamke iwapo kinavutia mtu kwa giza ya ukware.
ਤਿਨ ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
tin safal janam jin naam aDhaar. ||4||
Fruitful is the birth of that person who takes the Support of God’s Name
Kumefanikiwa kuzaliwa kwa mtu huyo anayechukua Tegemezo ya Jina la Mungu.
ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
Dharig Dharig garihu kutamb jit har pareet na ho-ay.
Cursed, is that home and family, in which the love of God is not embraced.
Imelaaniwa, nyumba na familia hiyo, ambamo upendo wa Mungu haukumbatiwi.
ਸੋਈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
so-ee hamaaraa meet jo har gun gaavai so-ay.
He alone is my friend, who sings the Glorious Praises of God.
Yeye pekee ni rafiki wangu, anayeimba Sifa Tukufu za Mungu.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੫॥
har naam binaa mai avar na ko-ay. ||5||
Besides God’s Name, there is no other for me.
Isipokuwa Jina la Mungu, hakuna lingine lolote kwangu.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
satgur tay ham gat pat paa-ee.
From the True Guru, I have obtained salvation and honor.
Kutoka kwa Guru wa Kweli, nimepata wokovu na heshima.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਦੂਖੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa dookh sagal mitaa-ee.
I have meditated on the Name of God, and all my sufferings have been erased.
Nimetafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, na mateso yangu yote yamefutwa.
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੬॥
sadaa anand har naam liv laa-ee. ||6||
I am in constant bliss, lovingly attuned to God’s Name.
Nimo katika raha tele kila wakati, nikimakinika kwa upendo kwa Jina la Mungu.
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੁਧਿ ਭਈ ॥
gur mili-ai ham ka-o sareer suDh bha-ee.
Meeting the Guru, I came to understand my body (the real purpose of life).
Kwa kukutana na Guru, nilikuja kuelewa mwili wangu (kusudi halisi la maisha).
ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਈ ॥
ha-umai tarisnaa sabh agan bujh-ee.
The fires of ego and desire have been totally quenched.
Moto ya ubinafsi na tamaa imezimwa kabisa.
ਬਿਨਸੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹਿ ਲਈ ॥੭॥
binsay kroDh khimaa geh la-ee. ||7||
Anger has been dispelled, and I have grasped hold of tolerance. ||7||
Hasira imeondolewa, na nimeshika uvumilivu kwa uthabiti.
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
har aapay kirpaa karay naam dayvai.
God Himself showers His Mercy, and bestows the Naam.
Mungu mwenyewe anamimina Huruma yake, na kutawaza Naam.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਲੇਵੈ ॥
gurmukh ratan ko virlaa layvai.
It is only a rare Guru’s follower, who receives this jewel-like precious Naam.
Ni mfuasi nadra pekee wa Guru, anayepokea Naam hii yenye thamani kama johari.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵੈ ॥੮॥੮॥
naanak gun gaavai har alakh abhayvai. ||8||8||
Nanak always sings the praises of incomprehensible and unknowable God.
Nanak daima anaimba sifa za Mungu asiyeeleweka na asiyejulikana.
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One unique God. Realized by the grace of the True Guru:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਵੇਮੁਖ ਬੁਰੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥
satgur tay jo muh fayray tay vaimukh buray disann.
Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru (no longer believe in the Guru’s teachings), are seen to be unfaithful and evil.
Wale wanaogeuza nyuso zao kutoka kwa Guru wa Kweli (hawaamini tena mafundisho ya Guru), wanaonekana kuwa wasio waaminifu na waovu.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਵੇਲਾ ਨਾ ਲਹੰਨਿ ॥੧॥
an-din baDhay maaree-an fir vaylaa naa lahann. ||1||
Bound by their desires, they always suffer from the blows of worldly desires; they shall not have this opportunity again.
Wakifungwa kwa tamaa zao, daima wanateseka kutoka mapigo ya tamaa za kidunia; kamwe hawatakuwa na fursa hii tena.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
har har raakho kirpaa Dhaar.
O’ God, have mercy and save me.
Ee Mungu, nionee huruma na uniokoe.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satsangat maylaa-ay parabh har hirdai har gun saar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, please lead me to meet the holy Congregation, so that I may keep Your virtues enshrined in my heart.
Ee Mungu, tafadhali niongoze kukutana na Ushirika takatifu, ili niweze kuthamini fadhila zako moyoni mwangu.
ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਾਇ ਚਲੰਨਿ ॥
say bhagat har bhaavday jo gurmukh bhaa-ay chalann.
Only those devotees are pleasing to God who live according to the teachings of the Guru.
Watawa hao pekee wanapendeza Mungu wanaoishi kulingana na mafundisho ya Guru.
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨਿ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਏ ਰਹੰਨਿ ॥੨॥
aap chhod sayvaa karan jeevat mu-ay rahann. ||2||
Shedding their self-conceit, they serve others and live detached from worldly affairs, as if they are dead while alive.
Wakiondoa majivuno yao binafsi, wanatumikia wengine na kuishi wakiwa wamejitenga kutoka shughuli za kidunia, kana kwamba wamekufa wakiwa bado hai.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਣ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥
jis daa pind paraan hai tis kee sir kaar.
We have to do the tasks assigned by Him to whom our body and soul belongs.
Lazima tufanye kazi tulizoteuliwa kufanya na Yeye ambaye anamiliki mwili na roho yetu.
ਓਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
oh ki-o manhu visaaree-ai har rakhee-ai hirdai Dhaar. ||3||
Why forget Him from our mind? We should Keep God enshrined in our heart.
Kwa nini tumsahau kutoka akili yetu? Tunapaswa kumthamini Mungu moyoni mwetu.
ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
naam mili-ai pat paa-ee-ai naam mani-ai sukh ho-ay.
Receiving the Naam one obtains honor; believing in the Naam, one is at peace.
Kwa kupokea Naam mtu anapata heshima; kwa kusadiki Naam, mtu yu katika amani.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥
satgur tay naam paa-ee-ai karam milai parabh so-ay. ||4||
The Naam is obtained from the True Guru, and God is realized by His Grace.
Naam inapatwa kutoka kwa Guru wa Kweli, na Mungu anagunduliwa kwa Neema yake.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਓਇ ਭ੍ਰਮਦੇ ਨਾ ਟਿਕੰਨਿ ॥
satgur tay jo muhu fayray o-ay bharamday naa tikann.
They who turn their faces away from the True(don’t follow the teachings of) Guru; they continue to wander after Maya and never find any peace in life.
Wale wanaogeuza nyuso zao kutoka kwa Guru wa Kweli (hawafuati mafundisho yake); wanaendelea kuzurura wakitafuta Maya na kamwe hawapati amani yoyote maishani.
ਧਰਤਿ ਅਸਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਝਲਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਪਏ ਪਚੰਨਿ ॥੫॥
Dharat asmaan na jhal-ee vich vistaa pa-ay pachann. ||5||
No one in this universe offers such a person any support, and they are consumed in their worldly miseries.
Hakuna mtu ulimwenguni anatolea mtu huyo msaada wowote, na wanaathiriwa na taabu zao za kidunia.
ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
ih jag bharam bhulaa-i-aa moh thag-ulee paa-ay.
Intoxicated with the potion of emotional attachments, the entire world has been lured into doubt.
Ikilevya kwa mkorogo wa viambatisho vya kihisia, dunia nzima imeshawishiwa ndani mwa shaka.
ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਭਿਟੈ ਮਾਇ ॥੬॥
jinaa satgur bhayti-aa tin nayrh na bhitai maa-ay. ||6||
Maya does not draw near those who have met with the True Guru.
Maya haikaribii wale ambao wamekutana na Guru wa Kweli.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੋ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
satgur sayvan so sohnay ha-umai mail gavaa-ay.
They who follow the advice of the true Guru and shed off the dirt of their ego, their life becomes beautiful and worthy of respect.
Wale wanaofuata ushauri wa Guru wa Kweli na kuondoa uchafu wa ubinafsi wao, maisha yao yanakuwa mazuri na yanayostahili heshima.
