ਮਥੇ ਵਾਲਿ ਪਛਾੜਿਅਨੁ ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੁਤੇ ॥
mathay vaal pachhaarhi-an jam maarag mutay.
God leaves the slanderers to suffer in the fear of death as if grabbing them by the forelocks and throwing them on to the road of the demons of death;
Mungu anaacha wachongezi wateseke katika hofu ya kifo kana kwamba anawakamata kwa panja la uso na kuwarusha kwenye barabara ya mapepo wa kifo;
ਦੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਣਿਆ ਨਰਕਿ ਘੋਰਿ ਸੁਤੇ ॥
dukh lagai billaani-aa narak ghor sutay.
where they moan in agony as if they are sleeping in the most torturous hell.
Ambapo wanalia kwa uchungu kana kwamba wanalala katika jehanamu yenye mateso makali.
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਦਾਸ ਰਖਿਅਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਸਤੇ ॥੨੦॥
kanth laa-ay daas rakhi-an naanak har satay. ||2||
But O’ Nanak, the eternal God saves His devotees from any harm by keeping them so near Him as if He has hugged them to His bosom. ||2||
Lakini Ee Nanak, Mungu wa milele anaokoa watawa wake kutoka madhara yoyote kwa kuwaweka karibu naye kana kwamba amewakumbatia kwa kifua chake.

ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
raam japahu vadbhaageeho jal thal pooran so-ay.
O’ the fortunate ones, remember that God with loving devotion who is pervading the waters and the earth.
Ee mlio na bahati nzuri, kumbukeni Mungu huyo kwa ujitoaji wa upendo ambaye anaenea majini na duniani.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਧਿਆਇਐ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak naam Dhi-aa-i-ai bighan na laagai ko-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, by remembering God no impediment comes in our spiritual path. ||1||
Ee Nanak, kwa kukumbuka Mungu hakuna kikwazo kinatokea katika njia yetu ya kiroho.

ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
kot bighan tis laagtay jis no visrai naa-o.
Millions of misfortunes block the way of the one who forgets God’s Name.
Mamilioni ya misiba inazuia njia ya yule anayesahau Jina la Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਪਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੨॥
naanak an-din bilpatay ji-o sunjai ghar kaa-o. ||2||
O’ Nanak, such persons always wail like a crow in a deserted house. ||2||
Ee Nanak, watu kama hao daima wanalia kama kunguru katika nyumba mahame.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਿਆ ॥

By always remembering the beneficent God, the objectives of a devotee’s life are accomplished.
Kwa kumkumbuka Mungu mfadhili daima, malengo ya maisha ya mtawa yanatimizwa.
ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਗਏ ਵਿਸੂਰਿਆ ॥
ichh punnee man aas ga-ay visoori-aa.
The hopes and desires of the mind are realized and sorrows are forgotten.
Matumaini na hamu za akili zinatimizwa na huzuni zinasahaulika.
ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਲਦਾ ॥
paa-i-aa naam niDhaan jis no bhaaldaa.
He finds the treasure of Naam, which he was searching for.
Yeye anapata hazina ya Naam, ambayo alikuwa anaitafuta.
ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਘਾਲਦਾ ॥
jot milee sang jot rahi-aa ghaaldaa.
Thus one’s light (soul) merges in the Supreme light and the toil for Maya ends.
Hivyo mwanga (roho) wa mtu unaungana na mwanga Mkuu na taabu ya Maya inakwisha.
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੁਠੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ॥
sookh sahj aanand vuthay tit ghar.
Celestial peace, poise, and bliss come to reside in his heart.
Amani ya kimbingu, utulivu, na raha tele inakuja kuishi moyoni mwake.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣ ਰਹੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਤਹਾ ਮਰਿ ॥
aavan jaan rahay janam na tahaa mar.
His comings and goings into this world comes to an end; then there is no birth and death for him.
Kuja na kuondoka kwake duniani humu kunakwisha; kisha hakuna kuzaliwa au kufa kwake.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਇਆ ॥
saahib sayvak ik ik daristaa-i-aa.
The devotee in that state of mind and the Master-God seem one and the same.
Mtawa aliye katika hali hiyo ya kiakili na Bwana-Mungu wanaonekana kuwa katika umoja.

chaar paav du-ay sing gung mukh tab kaisay gun ga-eehai.
O’ my friend, if in the next life you are born with four feet, two horns and a mute mouth, then how would you sing God’s praises?
Ee rafiki wangu, iwapo katika maisha yatakayofuata uzaliwe na miguu minne, pembe mbili na mdomo bubu, basi utawezaje kuimba sifa za Mungu?
ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਠੇਗਾ ਪਰਿਹੈ ਤਬ ਕਤ ਮੂਡ ਲੁਕਈਹੈ ॥੧॥
oothat baithat thaygaa parihai tab kat mood luka-eehai. ||1||
When at every moment, whether sitting or standing, you are hit with stick blows, then where would you hide your head? ||1||
Iwapo kila wakati, iwapo umekaa au umesimama, unagongwa na mapigo ya mti, basi utaficha wapi kichwa chako?
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੈਲ ਬਿਰਾਨੇ ਹੁਈਹੈ ॥
har bin bail biraanay hu-eehai.
Without remembering God, your situation would be like a borrowed ox,
Bila kumkumbuka Mungu, hali yako itakuwa kama fahali aliyeombwa,
ਫਾਟੇ ਨਾਕਨ ਟੂਟੇ ਕਾਧਨ ਕੋਦਉ ਕੋ ਭੁਸੁ ਖਈਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
faatay naakan tootay kaaDhan koda-o ko bhus kha-eehai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
with nostrils torn off by the chain, shoulders broken by the yoke, you would have only straw to eat. ||1||Pause||
mianzi ya pua inararuliwa na nyororo, mabega yanavunjwa na nira, utakuwa na nyasi tu ya kula. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਾਰੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਡੋਲਤ ਬਨ ਮਹੀਆ ਅਜਹੁ ਨ ਪੇਟ ਅਘਈਹੈ ॥
saaro din dolat ban mahee-aa ajahu na payt agh-eehai.
All day long, you would wander in the pastures and even then your belly will not be satiated.
Siku mzima, unazurura katika malisho na hata wakati huo tumbo lako halitakinai.
ਜਨ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੋ ਕਹੋ ਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਕੀਓ ਅਪਨੋ ਪਈਹੈ ॥੨॥
jan bhagtan ko kaho na maano kee-o apno pa-eehai. ||2||
Now you are not following the advice of God’s devotees, then you would reap what you sow now. ||2||
Hufuati ushauri wa watawa wa Mungu, basi utavuna unachopanda sasa hivi.
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤ ਮਹਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਬੂਡੋ ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮਈਹੈ ॥
dukh sukh karat mahaa bharam boodo anik jon bharam-eehai.
Now, drowned in great doubt, you are passing your life experiencing pain and pleasure; consequently you would wander taking birth in numerous species.
Sasa, ukizama katika shaka kuu, unapitisha maisha yako ukihisi uchungu na raha; kwa matokeo yake utazurura ukizaliwa tena katika spishi nyingi.
ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਪਈਹੈ ॥੩॥
ratan janam kho-i-o parabh bisri-o ih a-osar kat pa-eehai. ||3||
You have forsaken God and have wasted this jewel-like precious human life; when would you find such an opportunity again? ||3||
Umemwacha Mungu na umeharibu maisha haya ya kibinadamu yenye thamani kama kito; utapata lini fursa kama hii tena?
ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਤੇਲਕ ਕੇ ਕਪਿ ਜਿਉ ਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਬਿਹਈਹੈ ॥
bharmat firat taylak kay kap ji-o gat bin rain bih-eehai.
Your entire night of human life would pass away revolving like an ox at the oil press or dancing like a juggler’s monkey without attaining freedom from vices
Usiku wako mzima wa maisha ya kibinadamu utapita ukizunguka kama fahali kwenye shinikizo la mafuta au ukicheza kama kima wa mfanya kiinimacho bila kupata uhuru kutoka maovu.
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਧੁਨੇ ਪਛੁਤਈਹੈ ॥੪॥੧॥
kahat kabeer raam naam bin moond Dhunay pachhut-eehai. ||4||1||
Kabir says, without meditating on God’s Name, in the end you would repent pounding your head for wasting your life in vain. ||4||1||
Kabir anasema, bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, mwishowe utatubu ukigonga kichwa chako kwa kuharibu maisha yako bure.

ਮੁਸਿ ਮੁਸਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਕਬੀਰ ਕੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

Kabeer says,that my mother sobs, cries and bewails
Kabeer anasema, kwamba mama yangu anatoa kwikwi, kulia na kuomboleza
ਏ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਰਘੁਰਾਈ ॥੧॥
ay baarik kaisay jeeveh raghuraa-ee. ||1||
O’ my God, how these children of Kabir are going to survive? ||1||
Ee Mungu wangu, watoto hao wa Kabir wataishi vipi?
ਤਨਨਾ ਬੁਨਨਾ ਸਭੁ ਤਜਿਓ ਹੈ ਕਬੀਰ ॥
tannaa bunnaa sabh taji-o hai kabeer.
Because Kabeer has given up all his spinning and weaving,
Kwa sababu Kabeer ameacha kusokota na kufuma kwake kwote,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਰੀਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har kaa naam likh lee-o sareer. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and he is so busy in meditating on God, as if he has written God’s Name all over his body.||1||Pause||
na amejihusisha kabisa katika kutafakari kuhusu Mungu, kana kwamba ameandika Jina la Mungu kila mahali kwenye mwili wake.
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਤਾਗਾ ਬਾਹਉ ਬੇਹੀ ॥
jab lag taagaa baaha-o bayhee.
Kabir says, the time it takes for me to put the thread in the bobbin,
Kabir anasema, wakati unaonichukua kuweka uzi katika kibiringo,
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੨॥
tab lag bisrai raam sanayhee. ||2||
For that much time I forsake my beloved God. ||2||
Kwa muda huo naacha Mungu wangu mpendwa.
ਓਛੀ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਜੁਲਾਹਾ ॥
ochhee mat mayree jaat julaahaa.
My intellect is lowly and I am a weaver of lower social status by birth,
Uwekevu wangu ni wa hali ya chini nami ni mfumaji wa hadhi ya chini ya kijamii kwa kuzaliwa kwangu,
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਹਿਓ ਮੈ ਲਾਹਾ ॥੩॥
har kaa naam lahi-o mai laahaa. ||3||
but I have earned the wealth of the Name of God. ||3||
lakini nimechuma utajiri wa Jina la Mungu.
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
kahat kabeer sunhu mayree maa-ee.
Kabeer says, listen, O my mother,
Kabeer anasema, sikiliza, Ee mama yangu.
ਹਮਰਾ ਇਨ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਰਘੁਰਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥
hamraa in kaa daataa ayk raghuraa-ee. ||4||2||
the same one God is the provider for me and my children. ||4||2||
