ਜਿ ਤੁਧ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਕੇਰੀ ॥

O’ immaculate God, one who praises You and on whom You are merciful,receives everything.
Ee Mungu safi, yule ambaye anakusifu Wewe na ambaye Wewe unahurumia, anapokea kila kitu.
ਸੋਈ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਖਰੁ ਲਦਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੀ ॥
so-ee saahu sachaa vanjaaraa jin vakhar ladi-aa har naam Dhan tayree.
O’ God, that person alone is truly wealthy and true trader who loads the wealth of Your Name.
Ee Mungu, mtu huyo peke yake kwa kweli ni tajiri na mchuuzi wa kweli anayesheheni utajiri wa Jina lako.
ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਵ ਕੀ ਮਾਰਿ ਵਿਡਾਰੀ ਢੇਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
sabh tisai no saalaahihu santahu jin doojay bhaav kee maar vidaaree dhayree. ||16||
O’ saints, all of you sing praises of that God who has destroyed the extreme love of duality, things other than God. ||16||
Ee watakatifu, nyinyi wote mnaimba sifa za Mungu huyo ambaye ameangamiza upendo uliokithiri wa uwili, vitu visivyo Mungu.

ਕਬੀਰਾ ਮਰਤਾ ਮਰਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਮੁਆ ਮਰਿ ਭਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
kabeeraa martaa martaa jag mu-aa mar bhe na jaanai ko-ay.
O’ Kabir, dying one after the other, the entire world is dying, but nobody knows what is the right way to die. (detach from the worldly temptations while living)
Ee Kabir, wakifa mmoja baada ya mwengine, dunia nzima inakufa, lakini hakuna mtu anajua ni ipi ndio njia sahihi ya kufa. (kujitenga kutoka kwa majaribio ya kidunia wakati bado anaishi)
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇ ਲੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
man tan day lai sahj subhaa-ay.
Surrendering to the Guru, they realize God with intuitive ease.
Wakijisalimisha kwa Guru, wanamgundua Mungu kwa urahisi taratibu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੫॥੬॥

My conscious mind is engrossed in lust, anger and Maya.
Akili yangu yenye fahamu imevama katika ukware, hasira na Maya.
ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਤੁ ॥
jhooth vikaar jaagai hit cheet.
I am always awake (ready) and love to enter into the evil of falsehood.
Daima nimeamka (tayari) na upendo wa kuingia katika uovu wa udanganyifu.
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਪਾਪ ਲੋਭ ਕੀ ਕੀਤੁ ॥
poonjee paap lobh kee keet.
I have gathered the capital of sin and greed.
Nimekusanya rasilimali ya dhambi na tamaa.
ਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੀ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਚੀਤੁ ॥੧॥
tar taaree man naam sucheet. ||1||
If Your Name, which can eradicate all my sins, comes to dwell in my mind, then It will be like a raft or boat for me (to swim across world-ocean of vices). ||1||
Iwapo Jina lako, ambalo linaweza kuangamiza dhambi zote, lingekuja kuishi akilini mwangu, basi litakuwa kama chelezo au mashua kwangu (la kuogelea nikivuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi).
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਮੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
vaahu vaahu saachay mai tayree tayk.
O’ my wondrous God, I have but only Your support against the vices.
Ee Mungu wangu wa miujiza, sina mwingine ila msaada wako dhidi ya dhambi.
ਹਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਏਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

I am a sinner, You alone are immaculate one. ||1||Pause||

ਅਗਨਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੋਲੈ ਭੜਵਾਉ ॥
agan paanee bolai bharhvaa-o.
A mortal behaves differently under the effect of fire of anger and the tranquility of water.
Binadamu anatenda tofauti chini ya athari ya moto wa hasira na utulivu wa maji.
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
jihvaa indree ayk su-aa-o.
The tongue and sensual organs crave their individual satisfactions.
Ulimi na viungo vya hisi vinatamani kuridhika kwao binafsi.
ਦਿਸਟਿ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ॥
disat vikaaree naahee bha-o bhaa-o.
Our whole outlook is evil-oriented without any love or fear of God.
Mtazamo wetu wote unaelekezwa kwa maovu bila upendo wala woga kwa Mungu.
ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
aap maaray taa paa-ay naa-o. ||2||
It is only by eradicating self-conceit, one can realize God’s Name. ||2|| I
Ni kwa kuangamiza majivuno binafsi tu, ambapo mtu anaweza kugundua Jina la Mungu.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
sabad marai fir maran na ho-ay.
When onekills his self-conceit through the Guru’s word, then he does not die spiritual death.
Wakati mtu anaangamiza majivuno yake binafsi kupitia neno la Guru, basi hafi kifo cha kiroho.
ਬਿਨੁ ਮੂਏ ਕਿਉ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
bin moo-ay ki-o pooraa ho-ay.
Without eradicating self-conceit, how can one attain perfection?
Bila kuangamiza majivuno binafsi, mtu atawezaje kufikia ukamili?
ਪਰਪੰਚਿ ਵਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਦੋਇ ॥
parpanch vi-aap rahi-aa man do-ay.
instead the mind remains entangled in worldly affairs and duality.
Badala yake akili inabaki imenaswa katika shughuli za kidunia na uwili.
ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
thir naaraa-in karay so ho-ay. ||3||
Whatever the Immortal God does, comes to pass. ||3||
Chochote ambacho Mungu wa milele anafanya, kinatendeka.
ਬੋਹਿਥਿ ਚੜਉ ਜਾ ਆਵੈ ਵਾਰੁ ॥
bohith charha-o jaa aavai vaar.
I can board the ship of God’s Name only when by His grace, my turn comes.
Ninaweza kupanda meli ya Jina la Mungu wakati ambapo kwa neema yake, zamu yangu inafika.
ਠਾਕੇ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਰ ॥
thaakay bohith dargeh maar.
Those who are not able to board the ship of Naam, suffer in God’s court.
Wale ambao hawawezi kupanda meli ya Naam, wanateseka katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
sach saalaahee Dhan gurdu-aar.
Blessed is that house of the Guru (holy congregation) where I can sing the praise of God
Imabarikiwa nyumba hiyo ya Guru (ushirika takatifu) ambapo naweza kuimba sifa za Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੭॥
naanak dar ghar aykankaar. ||4||7||
O Nanak, only in the holy congregation I can realize the presence of God in my heart. ||4||7||

By reflecting on God’s virtues, my mind has turned away from Maya.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu fadhila za Mungu, akili yangu imegeuka ikiepuka Maya.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰ ਗਗਨਿ ਦਸ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥
amrit Dhaar gagan das du-aar.
I am enjoying such a unique and continuous feeling of divine bliss, as if a stream of Ambrosial nectar is trickling down from the sky in my secret mind.
Nafurahia hisia ya raha tele takatifu ya kipekee na isiyo na mwisho, kana kwamba mto wa nekta ya Ambrosia inatiririka kutoka angani katika akili yangu ya kisiri.
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
taribhavan bayDhi-aa aap muraar. ||1||
God Himself is pervading every where. ||1||
Mungu mwenyewe anaenea kote.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ray man mayray bharam na keejai.
O my mind, do not give in to doubt.
Ee akili yangu, usijisalimishe kwa shaka.
ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man maanee-ai amrit ras peejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
When the mind reposes full faith in God, only then the Ambrosial nectar can be partaken.||1||Pause||
Wakati akili inapumzika katika imani kamili kwa Mungu, wakati huo tu ndipo nekta ya ambrosia inaweza kushirikiwa. ||1||Sitisha||
ਜਨਮੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਮਰਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
janam jeet maran man maani-aa.
O’ mortal, win the game of life and accept in your mind the truth of death.
Ee binadamu, shinda mchezo wa maisha na ukubali akilini mwako ukweli wa kifo.
ਆਪਿ ਮੂਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
aap moo-aa man man tay jaani-aa.
When one’s self-conceit dies, the mind itself comes to understand it.
Wakati majivuno binafsi ya mtu yanaangamia, akili yenyewe inakuja kuyaelewa.
ਨਜਰਿ ਭਈ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੨॥
najar bha-ee ghar ghar tay jaani-aa. ||2||
When I was blessed by God with His glance of Grace, I realized His presence within my mind itself. ||2||
Wakati nilibarikiwa na Mungu na mtazamo wake wa Neema, niligundua uwepo wake.
ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ॥
jat sat tirath majan naam.
Meditation on God’s Name is the true austerity, charity, and ablution.
Kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu ni kujinyima kwa kweli, kutoa kwa hisani na udhu wa kweli.
ਅਧਿਕ ਬਿਥਾਰੁ ਕਰਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਮਿ ॥
aDhik bithaar kara-o kis kaam.
What good are ostentatious displays?
Kuna uzuri gani kwa maonyesho ya kifahari?
ਨਰ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮਿ ॥੩॥
nar naaraa-in antarjaam. ||3||
The All-pervading God knows all that is in our mind. ||3||
Mungu anayeenea kote anajua yote yaliyo akilini mwetu.
ਆਨ ਮਨਉ ਤਉ ਪਰ ਘਰ ਜਾਉ ॥
aan man-o ta-o par ghar jaa-o.
If I were to believe in any other besides God, only then I would knock at any other door.
Iwapo ningekuwa niamini mwengine asiyekuwa Mungu, wakati huo tu ndio ningebisha kwa mlango mwingine wowote.
ਕਿਸੁ ਜਾਚਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਥਾਉ ॥
kis jaacha-o naahee ko thaa-o.
But where should I go to beg? There is no other place for me.
Lakini nafaa kuenda wapi kuomba? Hakuna mahali pengine kwangu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੪॥੮॥
naanak gurmat sahj samaa-o. ||4||8||
O Nanak, through the Guru’s Teachings, I am intuitively united with God. ||4||8||
Ee Nanak, kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, naunganishwa kwa utaratibu na Mungu.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਦਿਖਾਏ ॥
satgur milai so maran dikhaa-ay.
When a person meets the Guru, the Guru shows that person what the death of the self or ego really is.
Wakati mtu anakutana na Guru, Guru anaonyesha mtu huyo uhalisia wa kifo cha ubinafsi.
ਮਰਣ ਰਹਣ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭਾਏ ॥
maran rahan ras antar bhaa-ay.
Then the mystery of remaining dead (detached from the worldly desires) becomes pleasing to the mind.
Kisha fumbo la kubaki mfu (kijitenga kutoka hamu za kidunia) linapendeza akilini.
ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਗਗਨ ਪੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
garab nivaar gagan pur paa-ay. ||1||
By getting rid of ego, one obtains a high spiritual state, as if one has reachedthe realm of the sky. ||1||
Kwa kuondoa ubinafsi, mtu anapata hali ya juu ya kiroho, kana kwamba mtu amefikia eneo la angani.
ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਆਏ ਨਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ॥
maran likhaa-ay aa-ay nahee rahnaa.
Death is preordained, nobody can remain alive forever.
Kifo kimeagiziwa mapema, hakuna ambaye anaweza kubaki hai milele.
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਾਪਿ ਰਹਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jap jaap rahan har sarnaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
But by meditating on God with love and devotion, one can (spiritually) remain forever in God’s refuge. ||1||Pause||
Lakini kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea, mtu anaweza kubaki (kiroho) milele katika kimbilio cha Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
satgur milai ta dubiDhaa bhaagai.
Meeting the True Guru, duality is dispelled.
Kwa kukutana na Guru wa Kweli, uwili unaondolewa.
ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਾਸਿ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
kamal bigaas man har parabh laagai.
The heart blossoms like a lotus, and the mind is attached to God.
Moyo unanawiri kama yungiyungi, na akili inaambatishwa kwa Mungu.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਆਗੈ ॥੨॥
jeevat marai mahaa ras aagai. ||2||
One who remains dead (detaches from Maya), while still alive obtains the supreme bliss. ||2||
Yule anayebaki amekufa (amejitenga na Maya), wakati yupo bado hai anapata raha tele kuu.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਚ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਸੂਚਾ ॥
satgur mili-ai sach sanjam soochaa.
Meeting the True Guru, one becomes truthful, chaste and pure.
Kwa kukutana na Guru wa Kweli, mtu anakuwa mkweli, safi na takatifu.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ॥
gur kee pa-orhee oocho oochaa.
Following the path shown by the Guru, one spiritually rises higher and higher.
Kwa kufuata njia iliyoelekezwa na Guru, mtu anainuka kiroho juu na juu zaidi.
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਮੂਚਾ ॥੩॥
karam milai jam kaa bha-o moochaa. ||3||
When God grants His Mercy, the fear of death is dispelled ||3||
Wakati Mungu anaruzuku Huruma yake, uoga wa kifo unaondolewa.
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
gur mili-ai mil ank samaa-i-aa.
On meeting the Guru and following his teachings, one remains imbued in God’s love by meditating on Naam.
Wakati mtu anakutana na Guru na kufuata mafundisho yake, mtu anabaki amejawa na upendo wa Mungu kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirpaa ghar mahal dikhaa-i-aa.
Granting His mercy, the Guru reveals the God’s presence within the heart itself.
Akiruzuku huruma yake, Guru anadhihirisha uwepo wa Mungu ndani mwa moyo mwenyewe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak ha-umai maar milaa-i-aa. ||4||9||
O Nanak, by eradicating ego, the Guru unites that person with God. ||4||9||
Ee Nanak, kwa kuangamiza ubinafsi, Guru anaunganisha mtu huyo na Mungu.
