ਸੂਰੇ ਸੇਈ ਆਗੈ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਾਣੋ ॥
sooray say-ee aagai aakhee-ahi dargeh paavahi saachee maano.
They alone are called the brave in the world hereafter, who receive true honor in the eternal God’s presence.
Wao peke yao wanaitwa jasiri katika dunia itakayofuata, ambao wanapokea staha ya kweli mbele ya Mungu wa milele.
ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਣੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
dargeh maan paavahi pat si-o jaaveh aagai dookh na laagai.
Yes, they depart from here in honor, are received with honor in God’s presence, and no pain afflicts them hereafter.
Ndio, wanaondoka kutoka humu kwa staha, wanapokelewa kwa staha mbele ya Mungu na hakuna uchungu unawaathiri katika akhera.
ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥
kar ayk Dhi-aavahi taaN fal paavahi jit sayvi-ai bha-o bhaagai.
They remember God with single minded devotion; they receive the fruit of Naam from that God, by remembering whom all fears flee away.
Wanakumbuka Mungu kwa ujitoaji wa nia moja; wanapokea tunda la Naam kutoka Mungu huyo, ambaye kwa kumkumbuka Yeye hofu yote inatokomea.
ਊਚਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣੋ ॥
oochaa nahee kahnaa man meh rahnaa aapay jaanai jaano.
One should not indulge in egotism and should control oneself; the omniscient God knows everything.
Mtu hafai kujihusisha katika ubinafsi na anafaa kujidhibiti; Mungu mwenye maarifa kamili anajua yote.
ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹੁ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
aapnaa man parboDhahu boojhhu so-ee.
O’ Pandit, First awaken your own mind and understand the existence of God yourself.
Ee Pandit, Kwanza amsha akili yako mwenyewe na uelewe kuwepo kwa Mungu mwenyewe.
ਲੋਕ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
lok samjhaavhu sunay na ko-ee.
Otherwise, people won’t listen to you, even when you try to preach them.
La sivyo, watu hawatakusikiza, hata wakati unajaribu kuwahubiria.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਮਝਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
gurmukh samjhahu sadaa sukh ho-ee. ||4||
Following Guru’s teachings, understand the right way of life, you will always live in bliss.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, elewa njia sahihi ya maisha, daima utaishi kwa raha tele.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਡੰਫੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
manmukh damf bahut chaturaa-ee.
The self-willed is overly clever and puts up a false show,
Mwenye hiari binafsi anaonekana mwerevu na anafanya maonyesho ya uongo.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
jo kichh kamaavai so thaa-ay na paa-ee.
whatever he does is not acceptable in God’s court.
Chochote anachofanya hakikubaliki katika mahakama ya Mungu.
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੫॥
aavai jaavai tha-ur na kaa-ee. ||5||
Therefore he remains in the cycles of birth and death and finds no spiritual peace anywhere.
Hivyo basi anabaki katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa wala hapati amani ya kiroho mahali popote.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
manmukh karam karay bahut abhimaanaa.
The egocentric performs religious rituals in great pride.
Mwenye ubinafsi anafanya mila za kidini kwa fahari kubwa.
ਬਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
bag ji-o laa-ay bahai nit Dhi-aanaa.
He pretends to be sitting in meditation, but actually like a stork his mind is fixed on the next victim.
Anajifanya kukaa katika kutafakari, lakini kwa kweli kama korongo akili yake imekazia mhanga ajaye.
ਜਮਿ ਪਕੜਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੬॥
jam pakrhi-aa tab hee pachhutaanaa. ||6||
He will repent, when caught by the demon of death.
Yeye atatubu, wakati atanaswa na pepo wa kifo.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bin satgur sayvay mukat na ho-ee.
Without following Guru’s advice, liberation is not obtained.
Bila kufuata ushauri wa Guru, ukombozi haupatwi.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
gur parsaadee milai har so-ee.
Only by the Guru’s Grace, one can realize God.
Kwa Neema ya Guru pekee, ndipo mtu anaweza kumgundua Mungu.
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
gur daataa jug chaaray ho-ee. ||7||
It is through the Guru’s grace that one meets God. Not just in this age, but in all the four ages, only Guru has been the means to salvation.
Ni kupitia neema ya Guru ambapo mtu anakutana na Mungu. Sio kwa enzi hii pekee, bali kwa enzi zote nne, ni Guru pekee ambaye amekuwa njia ya wokovu.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
gurmukh jaat pat naamay vadi-aa-ee.
For the Guru’s follower, God’s Name is his honor, social status and glory.
Kwa mfuasi wa Guru, Jina la Mungu ni heshima, hadhi ya kijamii na utukufu wake.
ਸਾਇਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
saa-ir kee putree bidaar gavaa-ee.
Through the Naam, the Guru’s follower eradicates the worldly attachments.
Kupitia Naam, mfuasi wa Guru anaangamiza viambatisho vya kidunia.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਝੂਠੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੮॥੨॥
naanak bin naavai jhoothee chaturaa-ee. ||8||2||
O’ Nanak, without Naam all the cleverness is false.
Ee Nanak, bila Naam uwerevu wote sio wa kweli.

ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਕਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਈ ॥
is jug kaa Dharam parhahu tum bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, read and reflect on what is written in the holy books about the righteous way of life for this day and age
Ee ndugu zangu, someni na mtafakari kuhusu kilichoandikwa katika vitabu takatifu kuhusu njia adilifu ya maisha ya siku na enzi hii.
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
poorai gur sabh sojhee paa-ee.
The Perfect Guru has bestowed this clear understanding,
Guru Kamili ametawaza uelewa huu dhahiri,
ਐਥੈ ਅਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
aithai agai har naam sakhaa-ee. ||1||
that both here and hereafter, it is God’s Name who will be our only companion.
Kwamba humu na kwa dunia itakayofuata pia, ni Jina la Mungu ambalo litakuwa mwendani wetu wa pekee.
ਰਾਮ ਪੜਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
raam parhahu man karahu beechaar.
O’ my friends, read about God and reflect on Him in your your mind,
Ee marafiki wangu, someni kuhusu Mungu na mtafakari kumhusu akilini mwenu,
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee mail utaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and through Guru’s Grace wash off the filth of your vices.
Na kupitia Neema ya Guru safisheni uchafu wa maovu yenu.
ਵਾਦਿ ਵਿਰੋਧਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
vaad viroDh na paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
God is not realized by entering into any religious controversies.
Mungu hagunduliwi kwa kuingia katika mzozo wowote wa kidini.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
man tan feekaa doojai bhaa-ay.
By the love of duality, the body and mind remain spiritually unsatisfied.
Kwa upendo wa uwili, akili na mwili unabaki haujaridhishwa kiroho.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur kai sabad sach liv laa-ay. ||2||
It is only through Guru’s word that one can attune to the eternal God.
Ni kupitia neno la Guru pekee ambapo mtu anaweza kumakinikia Mungu wa milele.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
ha-umai mailaa ih sansaaraa.
This world is polluted with egotism.
Dunia hii imechafuliwa kwa ubinafsi.
ਨਿਤ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
nit tirath naavai na jaa-ay ahaNkaaraa.
By taking cleansing baths daily at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, egotism is not eliminated.
Kwa kuoga kwa kujitakasa kila siku katika ziara takatifu za hija, ubinafsi hauondolewi.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
bin gur bhaytay jam karay khu-aaraa. ||3||
Without meeting the Guru, they are tormented by the fear Death.
Bila kukutana na Guru, wanateswa kwa uoga wa Kifo.
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
so jan saachaa je ha-umai maarai.
Only that person is True, (embodiment of God) who has conquered his ego.
Mtu huyo pekee ni wa Kweli, (udhihirisho wa kimwili wa Mungu) ambaye ametawala ubinafsi wake.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥
gur kai sabad panch sanghaarai.
Through Guru’s word, he conquers all the five passions of lust, greed, anger, ego and emotional attachment.
Kupitia neno la Guru, anatawala harara zote tano za ukware, tamaa, hasira, ubinafsi na kiambatisho cha kihisia.
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੪॥
aap tarai saglay kul taarai. ||4||
He saves himself, and also saves all his entire lineage as well.
Yeye anajiokoa, na pia anaokoa kizazi chake chote.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਟਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi nat baajee paa-ee.
(God), like a juggler, has staged the drama of emotional attachment to Maya,
(Mungu), kama mfanya kiinimacho, amepanga drama ya kiambatisho cha kihisia kwa Maya,
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਰਹੇ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
manmukh anDh rahay laptaa-ee.
and the self-willed, blinded by the Maya, are getting entangled in this drama.
Na wenye hiari binafsi, wakipofushwa na Maya, wanaendelea kunaswa katika sarakasi hii.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
gurmukh alipat rahay liv laa-ee. ||5||
But the Guru’s followers remain detached from this drama by remaining attuned to God’s love.
Lakini wafuasi wa Guru wanabaki wamejitenga kuroka sarakasi hii kwa kubaki wamemakinikia upendo wa Mungu.
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
bahutay bhaykh karai bhaykh-Dhaaree.
The disguiser, who thinks righteousness is only the outer religious garb, puts onvarious religious disguises.
Aliyejificha, anayefikiria kuwa uadilifu ni kuvaa vazi la kidini la nje tu, anavaa mavazi ya kujificha tofauti ya kidini.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
antar tisnaa firai ahaNkaaree.
But within himself, he carries the desire for worldly riches and keeps wandering in ego.
Lakini ndani mwake, anabeba hamu ya utajiri wa kidunia na anaendelea kuzurura katika ubinafsi.
ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
aap na cheenai baajee haaree. ||6||
He does not reflect on himself, and therefore loses the game of life.
Yeye hatafakari kuhusu nafsi yake, na hivyo basi anapoteza mchezo wa maisha.
ਕਾਪੜ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
kaaparh pahir karay chaturaa-ee.
Putting on religious robes, he acts so clever,
Akivaa majoho ya kidini, anajifanya mwerevu sana,
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
maa-i-aa mohi at bharam bhulaa-ee.
but in fact due to love for Maya he is totally lost in extreme doubts.
Lakini kwa uhakika kutokana na upendo wa Maya amepotea kabisa katika shaka iliyokithiri.
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
bin gur sayvay bahut dukh paa-ee. ||7||
Without following the Guru’s advice, he suffers immense pain.
Bila kufuata ushauri wa Guru, anateseka kwa uchungu mkali.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
naam ratay sadaa bairaagee.
They, who remain imbued with the love of God, are always detached from worldly affairs.
Wale, wanaobaki wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu, daima wamejitenga kutoka shughuli za kidunia
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
garihee antar saach liv laagee.
Even while taking care of their families, they remain attuned to God.
Hata wakati wanatunza familia zao, wanabaki wamemakinikia Mungu.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੮॥੩॥
naanak satgur sayveh say vadbhaagee. ||8||3||
O’ Nanak, they who follow the teachings of the True Guru are very fortunate.
Ee Nanak, wale wanaofuata mafundisho ya Guru wa Kweli wamebahatika sana.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਵੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥
barahmaa mool vayd abhi-aasaa.
The Brahma is believed to be the founder of the study of the Vedas.
Brahma anaaminika kuwa mwanzilishi wa kusoma kwa Vedas.
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਦੇਵ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
tis tay upjay dayv moh pi-aasaa.
It is also believed that from him emanated all other gods, but they all appear to be enticed by worldly attachment and desire.
Pia inaaminika kwamba kutoka kwake kulitokea miungu wote wengine, lakini wote wanaonekana kuvutiwa na kiambatisho cha kidunia na tamaa.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
tarai gun bharmay naahee nij ghar vaasaa. ||1||
These gods kept wandering in the three modes of maya (vice, virtue and power), and they did not get place in God’s court
Hao miungu waliendelea kuzurura katika mbinu tatu za Maya (dhambi, fadhila na nguvu), na hawakupata nafasi katika mahakama ya Mungu
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
ham har raakhay satguroo milaa-i-aa.
God has saved me from the Maya by uniting me with True Guru,
Mungu ameniokoa kutoka Maya kwa kuniunganisha na Guru wa Kwali,
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
an-din bhagat har naam drirh-aa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
who has instructed me about always remembering God with love and devotion.
Ambaye amenielekeza kuhusu kumkumbuka Mungu daima kwa upendo na kujitolea.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
tarai gun banee barahm janjaalaa.
The gospel of Brahma keeps people entangled in the three impulses of Maya.
Injili ya Brahma inaweka watu wamenaswa katika misukumo mitatu ya Maya.
ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਮਕਾਲਾ ॥
parh vaad vakaaneh sir maaray jamkaalaa.
After reading this Gospel, the scholars enter into controversies and are tormented by the fear of death.
Baada ya kusoma injili hii, wasomi wanaingia kwenye mizozo na wanateswa na hofu ya kifo.
