ਸੁਣਿ ਨਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਉ ਏਕਲੜੀ ਬਨ ਮਾਹੇ ॥
sun naah parabhoo jee-o aykalrhee ban maahay.
O’ God, my venerable husband, please listen. I am all alone in the wilderness of the world.
Ee Mungu, mume wangu unayeheshimika, tafadhali sikiliza. Mimi nimo mwenyewe katika nyika ya dunia.
ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰੈਗੀ ਨਾਹ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
ki-o Dheeraigee naah binaa parabh vayparvaahay.
O’ my carefree husband God, how can I be solaced without You?
Ee Mume Mungu wangu usiye na wasiwasi, ninawezaje kufarijiwa bila Wewe?
ਧਨ ਨਾਹ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਬਿਖਮ ਰੈਣਿ ਘਣੇਰੀਆ ॥
Dhan naah baajhahu reh na saakai bikham rain ghanayree-aa.
A bride-soul cannot live without God-husband. Without Him, the night-life passes in great diffculity.
Roho kama bi harusi hawezi kuishi bila Mume-Mungu. Bila Yeye, maisha kama usiku yanapita kwa matatizo makuu.
ਨਹ ਨੀਦ ਆਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥
nah need aavai paraym bhaavai sun baynantee mayree-aa.
O’ God, please listen to my supplication, Your love is so dear to me that without You I cannot get any peace.
Ee Mungu, tafadhali sikiliza dua langu, upendo Wako ni muhimu sana kwangu kwamna bila Wewe siwezi kupata amani yoyote,
ਬਾਝਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਏਕਲੜੀ ਕੁਰਲਾਏ ॥
baajhahu pi-aaray ko-ay na saaray aykalrhee kurlaa-ay.
Besides the Husband-God, no one cares for the soul-bride and she wails alone.
Isipokuwa Mume-Mungu, hakuna anayejali kuhusu roho kama bi harusi na anaomboleza pekee yake.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥
naanak saa Dhan milai milaa-ee bin pareetam dukh paa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only that soul-bride unites with her Master-God, whom the Guru unites. Without her beloved-God she suffers in agony.
Ee Nanak, roho kama bi harusi huyo pekee anaungana na Bwana-Mungu wake, ambaye Guru anaunganisha. Bila Mungu-mpendwa wake anateseka kwa uchungu.
ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਅੜੀ ਜੀਉ ਕਵਣੁ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥
pir chhodi-arhee jee-o kavan milaavai.
Who can unite that soul-bride who has been deserted by her husband-God?
Nani anaweza kuunganisha huyo roho kama bi harusi ambaye ameachwa na Mume-Mungu?
ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
ras paraym milee jee-o sabad suhaavai.
The soul-bride who, through the Guru’s word, grows imbued in the love of God becomes spiritually beautiful.
Roho kama bi harusi ambaye, kupitia neno la Guru, anakua akijawa na upendo wa Mungu anakuwa mzuri kiroho.
ਸਬਦੇ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਦੀਪਕ ਦੇਹ ਉਜਾਰੈ ॥
sabday suhaavai taa pat paavai deepak dayh ujaarai.
Yes, when through the Guru’s word she becomes spiritually beautiful and the divine knowledge illuminates her mind, she obtains honor here and hereafter.
Ndio, wakati ambapo kupitia neno la Guru anakuwa mzuri kiroho na maarifa takatifu yanaangaza akili yake, anapata heshima humu na katika dunia itakayofuata.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੈ ॥
sun sakhee sahaylee saach suhaylee saachay kay gun saarai.
Listen, O’ my friend, the soul-bride who contemplates on the virtues of the eternal God lives in peace and comfort.
Sikiliza, Ee rafiki wangu, roho kama bi harusi anayetafakari kuhusu fadhila za Mungu wa milele anaishi kwa amani na starehe.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਾ ਪਿਰਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਬਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
satgur maylee taa pir raavee bigsee amrit banee.
When the true Guru attuned her to his Word, then the husband-God united her with Himself and she felt delighted singing the ambrosial words.
Wakati Guru wa kweli alimakinisha akili yake kwa Neno lake, basi Mume-Mungu alimuunganisha naye Mwenyewe na alihisi furaha akiimba maneno yenye ambrosia.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਜਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥੨॥
naanak saa Dhan taa pir raavay jaa tis kai man bhaanee. ||2||
O’ Nanak, the soul-bride enjoys the company of her Husband-God only when she is pleasing to His mind.
Ee Nanak, toho kama bi harusi anafurahia uandamano wa Mume-Mungu wake tu wakati ambapo anapendeza akilini Mwake.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਨੀਘਰੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰੇ ॥
maa-i-aa mohnee neeghree-aa jee-o koorh muthee koorhi-aaray.
Fascination with Maya has driven her out divine state, because she has been deceived by the deception of short lived worldly wealth.
Uvutio wa Maya umemuondosha kutoka kwa hali takatifu, kwa sababu amedanganywa na ulaghai wa utajiri wa kidunia usiodumu.
ਕਿਉ ਖੂਲੈ ਗਲ ਜੇਵੜੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
ki-o khoolai gal jayvarhee-aa jee-o bin gur at pi-aaray.
How can the noose of Maya around her neck be untied, without the Most Beloved Guru?
Kitanzi cha Maya shingoni pake kinawezaje kuondolewa, bila Guru Mpendwa kabisa?
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਾ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
har pareet pi-aaray sabad veechaaray tis hee kaa so hovai.
The one who gets imbued with God’s love by reflecting on the Guru’s word, becomes the devotee of God.
Yule ambaye anajawa na upendo wa Mungu kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru, anakuwa mtawa wa Mungu.
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਨਾਵਣ ਕਿਉ ਅੰਤਰ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
punn daan anayk naavan ki-o antar mal Dhovai.
How can one wash off the dirt of vices from within the heart by giving in charities and performing countless ablutions at holy places.
Mtu anawezaje kusafisha uchafu wa dhambi kutoka ndani mwa moyo kwa kutoa kwa hisani na kufanya kutawadha kusiohesabika katika pahali takatifu.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਗਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਬੇਬਾਣੈ ॥
naam binaa gat ko-ay na paavai hath nigrahi baybaanai.
Without meditation on Naam, no one attains high spiritual state through obstinate self-control and living in the wilderness.
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam, hakuna mtu anapata hali ya juu ya kiroho kupitia kujizuia kwa ushupavu na kuishi nyikani.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚ ਘਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੩॥
naanak sach ghar sabad sinjaapai dubiDhaa mahal ke jaanai. ||3||
O’ Nanak, the true home of God, the heart, is recognized only through the Guru’s word and the one who is in love with duality cannot recognize it.
Ee Nanak, nyumbani mwa kweli mwa Mungu, moyoni, mnatambulika tu kupitia neno la Guru na yule ambaye anapenda uwili hawezi kuitambua.
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
tayraa naam sachaa jee-o sabad sachaa veechaaro.
O’ Dear God; True is Your Name, True is contemplation of Your virtues.
Ee Mungu Mpendwa; la Kweli ni Jina lako, na Kweli ni kutafakari kuhusu fadhila zako.
ਤੇਰਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਚਾ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੋ ॥
tayraa mahal sachaa jee-o naam sachaa vaapaaro.
O’ dear God, True is Your court and meditating on Naam is the true trade.
Ee Mungu mpendwa, ya Kweli ni mahakama Yako na kutafakari kuhusu Naam ni biashara ya kweli.
ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ॥
naam kaa vaapaar meethaa bhagat laahaa andino.
Yes, sweet is the trade of meditation on Naam, and there is always a spiritual gain in devotional worship.
Ndio, biashara ya kutafakari kuhusu Naam ni tamu, na daima kuna faida ya kiroho katika ibada ya kujitolea.
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥
tis baajh vakhar ko-ay na soojhai naam layvhu khin khino.
Beside remembering God, there is no other more profitable trade, therefore, O’ my friends remember Him with loving devotion at every moment.
Isipokuwa kumkumbuka Mungu, hakuna biashara nyingine yenye faida zaidi, hivyo basi, Ee marafiki wangu mkumbukeni Yeye kwa kujitolea kwa upendo kila wakati.
ਪਰਖਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
parakh laykhaa nadar saachee karam poorai paa-i-aa.
The one who understood the worth of meditation on God’s Name, has realized Him through His Grace.
Yule aliyeelewa thamani ya kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, amemgundua Yeye kupitia Neema yake.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥
naanak naam mahaa ras meethaa gur poorai sach paa-i-aa. ||4||2||
O’ Nanak, the Nectar of God’s Name is very sweet, this everlasting gift of Naam is obtained through the perfect Guru.
Ee Nanak, nekta ya Jina la Mungu ni tamu sana, tuzo hii ya Naam inayodumu milele inapatwa kupitia Guru kamili.

ik-oNkaar satnaam kartaa purakh gurparsaad.
One eternal, Creator, all pervading God. Realized by the Guru’s Grace:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, Muumba, anayeenea kote. Anayegunduliwa kwa Neema ya Guru.
ਸਾ ਧਨ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ॥
saa Dhan bin-o karay jee-o har kay gun saaray.
The soul-bride who longs to reunite with God offers her prayers to God anddwells upon His Glorious Virtues.
Roho kama bi harusi anayetamani kuungana tena na Mungu anawasilisha maombi yake kwa Mungu na kukaa katika Fadhila zake Tukufu.
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
khin pal reh na sakai jee-o bin har pi-aaray.
She cannot live peacefully even for a moment without her dear God.
Hawezi kuishi kwa amani hata kwa muda mfupi bila Mungu wake mpendwa.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
bin har pi-aaray reh na saakai gur bin mahal na paa-ee-ai.
Yes, she cannot live in peace without her beloved God; but He can not be realized without the Guru’s teachings.
Ndio, hawezi kuishi kwa amani bila Mungu wake mpendwa, lakini Yeye hawezi kugunduliwa bila mafundisho ya Guru.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥
jo gur kahai so-ee par keejai tisnaa agan bujhaa-ee-ai.
The fire of desire is extinguished by faithfully following the Guru’s teachings.
Moto wa hamu unazimwa kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru kwa uaminifu.
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
har saachaa so-ee tis bin avar na ko-ee bin sayvi-ai sukh na paa-ay.
God alone is eternal, there is none other besides Him, and without remembering Him with love and devotion the soul-bride cannot enjoy the eternal bliss.
Mungu pekee ni wa milele, hakuna mwengine ila Yeye, na bila kumkumbuka Yeye kwa upendo na kujitolea roho kama bi harusi hawezi kufurahia raha tele ya milele.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
naanak saa Dhan milai milaa-ee jis no aap milaa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only that soul-bride is united with God, whom He Himself unites through the Guru.
Ee Nanak, roho kama bi harusi huyo pekee anaunganishwa na Mungu, ambaye Yeye Mwenyewe anaunganisha kupitia kwa Guru.
ਧਨ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੜੀਏ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
Dhan rain suhaylrhee-ay jee-o har si-o chit laa-ay.
The soul-bride passes the life-night in comfort and bliss only when she remains attuned to God,
Maisha kama usiku ya roho kama bi harusi yanapita kwa starehe na raha tele iwapo tu abaki amemakinikia Mungu,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
satgur sayvay bhaa-o karay jee-o vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
and follows the true Guru’s teachings with love and eradicates her self-conceit.
Na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli kwa upendo na kuangamiza majivuno yake binafsi.
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਓ ॥
vichahu aap gavaa-ay har gun gaa-ay an-din laagaa bhaa-o.
Yes, the soul-bride who sheds her ego and sings praises of God, always remains imbued with God’s love.
Ndio, roho kama bi harusi anayeondoa ubinafsi wake na kuimba sifa za Mungu, daima anabaki amejawa na upendo wa Mungu.
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਮੇਲੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਓ ॥
sun sakhee sahaylee jee-a kee maylee gur kai sabad samaa-o.
By listening to the Guru’s word from her soul mate friends, she remains merged in the Guru’s word.
Kwa kusikiliza neno la Guru kutoka kwa marafiki roho wenza wake, anabaki ameunganishwa katika neno la Guru.
