ਸਭੇ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
sabhay ichhaa pooree-aa jaa paa-i-aa agam apaaraa.
All desires are fulfilled upon realization of the inaccessible and infinite God.
Hamu zote zinatimizwa kwa utambuzi wa Mungu asiyeweza kufikiwa na asiye na mwisho.
ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤੇਰਿਆ ਚਰਣਾ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੭॥
gur naanak mili-aa paarbarahm tayri-aa charnaa ka-o balihaaraa. ||4||1||47||
O’ brother, one who has met Guru Nanak (followed his teachings), has realized God; O’ God! I am dedicated to Your Name. ||4||1||47||

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the True Guru.
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa Kweli.
ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਤੂਹੈ ਮਨਾਇਹਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਹਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
tayraa bhaanaa toohai manaa-ihi jis no hohi da-i-aalaa.
O’ God, on whom You become kind, You Yourself get Your command obeyed by that person.
Ee Mungu, kwa yule ambaye Wewe unakuwa mwema, Wewe Mwenyewe unafanya mtu huyo atii amri Yako.
ਸਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੧॥
saa-ee bhagat jo tuDh bhaavai tooN sarab jee-aa partipaalaa. ||1||
That alone is the true devotional worship which is pleasing to You; O’ God! You are the cherisher of all beings. ||1||
Hiyo peke yake ni ibada ya kweli ya ujitoaji ambayo inekupendeza Wewe; Ee Mungu! Wewe ndiwe mthamini wa viumbe vyote.
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਸੰਤਾ ਟੇਕ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥
mayray raam raa-ay santaa tayk tumHaaree.
O’ my God! the sovereign king, Your saints have only Your support,
Ee Mungu wangu! Mfalme mwenye enzi kuu, watakatifu wako wana tegemezo yako pekee.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so parvaan man tan toohai aDhaaree. ||1|| rahaa-o.
whatever pleases You is acceptable to Your saints; Yours is the only support in their mind and body. ||1||Pause||
chochote kinachokupendeza Wewe kinakubalika na watakatifu wako; Yako ni tegemezo ya pekee ya akili na mwili wao. ||1||Sitisha||
ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
tooN da-i-aal kirpaal kirpaa niDh mansaa pooranhaaraa.
O’ God! You are compassionate, treasure of mercy and fulfiller of hopes.
Ee Mungu! Wewe ni mkarimu, hazina ya huruma na mtimizaji wa matumaini.
ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਪਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤੂੰ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥
bhagat tayray sabh faraanpat pareetam tooN bhagtan kaa pi-aaraa. ||2||
O’ the Master of life, You love all the devotees, and You are their Beloved. ||2||
Ee Bwana wa uhai, Wewe unapenda watawa wote, na Wewe ndiwe Mpendwa wao.
ਤੂ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਾਤੇ ॥
too athaahu apaar at oochaa ko-ee avar na tayree bhaatay.
O’ God! You are unfathomable, infinite and exalted; there is no one else like You.
Ee Mungu! Wewe huwezi kufahamika, huna mwili na unainuliwa juu; hakuna yeyote mwengine kama Wewe.
ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ॥੩॥
ih ardaas hamaaree su-aamee visar naahee sukh-daatay. ||3||
O’ the Master-God, our bliss-giving benefactor, this is our prayer that we may never forget You. ||3||
Ee Bwana-Mungu, mfadhili wetu unaotupa raha tele, hili ndilo ombi letu kwamba kamwe tusiwahi kukusahau Wewe.
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਾ ॥
din rain saas saas gun gaavaa jay su-aamee tuDh bhaavaa.
O’ my Master-God! if I sound pleasing to You, (bless me) that I may always sing Your praises with each and every breath.
Ee Bwana-Mungu wangu! Iwapo sauti yangu inakupendeza Wewe, (nibariki) ili daima niweze kuimba sifa zako kwa kila pumzi ninayopumua.
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੁਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੪੮॥
naam tayraa sukh naanak maagai saahib tuthai paavaa. ||4||1||48||
O’ my Master-God! Nanak begs for the blessing of Your Name, the ultimate peace; I can receive it only if through Your pleasure. ||4||1||48||
Ee Bwana-Mungu wangu! Nanak anaomba baraka hii ya Jina lako, amani kuu zaidi; naweza kuipokea tu kwa mapenzi yako.

ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਤੂ ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਹਾ ॥
visrahi naahee jit too kabhoo so thaan tayraa kayhaa.
O’ God, what could be like that place of Yours, sitting where You are never forsaken,
Ee Mungu, ni wapi panaweza kuwa kama mahali hapo pako, ambapo kwa kukaa hapo Wewe kamwe huachwi,
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਜਿਤੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੇਹਾ ॥੧॥
aath pahar jit tuDh Dhi-aa-ee nirmal hovai dayhaa. ||1||
and where I may meditate on You all the time and my body gets purified? ||1||
na ambapo naweza kutafaakri kuhusu Wewe kila wakati na mwili wangu unatakaswa?
ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਹਉ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਭਾਲਣ ਆਇਆ ॥
mayray raam ha-o so thaan bhaalan aa-i-aa.
O’ my God, I have started searching for that place.
Ee Mungu wangu, nimeanza kutafuta mahali hapo.
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khojat khojat bha-i-aa saaDhsang tinH sarnaa-ee paa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
After searching from place to place, I reached the congregation of saints and in their refuge, I have found that place. ||1||Pause||
Baada ya kutafuta kutoka mahali moja hadi nyingine, nilifikia ushirika wa watakatifu na katika kimbilio chao, nimepata mahali hapo. ||1||Sitisha||
ਬੇਦ ਪੜੇ ਪੜਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਹਾਰੇ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
bayd parhay parh barahmay haaray ik til nahee keemat paa-ee.
O’ God! reading and reciting the Vedas, angels like Brahma grew weary but they could not understand even a tiny bit of Your worth.
Ee Mungu! Wakisoma na kukariri Vedas, malaika kama Brahma walichoka lakini hawakuweza kuelewa hata kipande kidogo cha thamani yako.
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੇ ਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੋਹੇ ਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
saaDhik siDh fireh billaatay tay bhee mohay maa-ee. ||2||
Many seekers and adepts are roaming around bewailing because they too have been allured by Maya. ||2||
Watafutaji na stadi wengi wanazurura kote wakiomboleza kwa sababu wao pia wamevutiwa na Maya.
ਦਸ ਅਉਤਾਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੇ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਅਉਧੂਤਾ ॥
das a-utaar raajay ho-ay vartay mahaadayv a-uDhootaa.
O’ God, the ten incarnations of god Vishnu who lived as honorable kings in their times, and the god Shiva who became a renowned recluse;
Ee Mungu, umwilisho kumi wa mungu Vishnu aliyeishi kama wafalme wanaoenziwa katika nyakati zao, na mungu Shiva aliyekuwa mpweke maarufu;
ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਤੇਰਾ ਲਾਇ ਥਕੇ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ ॥੩॥
tinH bhee ant na paa-i-o tayraa laa-ay thakay bibhootaa. ||3||
they too kept roaming around with ashes applied to their bodies, but could not find the limit of Your virtues and Your creation. ||3||
wao pia walizidi kuzurura kote na majivu yamepakwa kwenye miili yao, lakini hawakuweza kupata kikomo cha fadhila zako na uumbaji wako.
ਸਹਜ ਸੂਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤੀ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
sahj sookh aanand naam ras har santee mangal gaa-i-aa.
The saints who always sang the praises of God, enjoyed peace, poise, bliss, and the relish of Naam.
Watakatifu ambao daima waliimba sifa za Mungu, walifurahia amani, utulivu, raha tele na kiburudisho cha Naam.
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੪੯॥
safal darsan bhayti-o gur naanak taa man tan har har Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||4||2||49||
O’ Nanak, when they met the Guru whose blessed vision makes one’s life successful, they started remembering God with their mind and body. ||4||2||49||
Ee Nanak, wakati walikutana na Guru ambaye mwono wake uliobarikiwa unafanya maisha ya mtu yafanikiwe, walianza kumkumbuka Mungu kwa akili na mwili wao.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਜੋ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਲੂਟੈ ॥
karam Dharam pakhand jo deeseh tin jam jaagaatee lootai.
O’ brother, all those who are seen doing the religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies, are plundered by the demon of death.
Ee ndugu, wale wote ambao wanaonekana wakifanya desturi, mila na unafiki, wanaporwa na pepo wa kifo.
ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਿਤੁ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੧॥
nirbaan keertan gaavhu kartay kaa nimakh simrat jit chhootai. ||1||
Therefore without any worldly desires, sing praises of the Creator, remembering whom with adoration even for a moment, one is liberated from vices. ||1||
Hivyo basi, bila hamu zozote za kidunia, imba sifa za Muumba, ambaye kwa kumkumbuka kwa ibada hata kwa muda mfupi, mtu anakombolewa kutoka maovu.
ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੀਐ ॥
santahu saagar paar utree-ai.
O’ Saints, the world-ocean of vices is crossed over by (singing praises of God).
Ee Watakatifu, bahari-dunia ya dhambi inavukiwa kwa (kuimba sifa za Mungu).
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jay ko bachan kamaavai santan kaa so gur parsaadee taree-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If someone practices the teachings of the saints, then by the Guru’s grace, that person is ferried across the world ocean of vices.
Iwapo mtu atende kulingana na mafundisho ya watakatifu, basi kwa neema ya Guru, mtu huyo anavukishwa bahari dunia ya dhambi.
ਕੋਟਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥
kot tirath majan isnaanaa is kal meh mail bhareejai.
O’ brother, in this world one’s mind gets filled with dirt of sins, even by bathing at millions of sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
Ee ndugu, duniani humu akili ya mtu inajawa na uchafu wa dhambi, hata kwa kuoga katika mamilioni ya ziara takatifu za hija.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੨॥
saaDhsang jo har gun gaavai so nirmal kar leejai. ||2||
But one who sings praises of God in the company of the Guru, his life becomesimmaculate. ||2||
Lakini yule anayeimba sifa za Mungu katika uandamano wa Guru, maisha yake yanakuwa safi.
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
bayd katayb simrit sabh saasat inH parhi-aa mukat na ho-ee.
One does not attain freedom from vices by reading the Vedas, the Simritees, the Shaastras and other religious books.
Mtu hapati uhuru kutoka maovu kwa kusoma Vedas, Simritees, Shastras na vitabu vingine vya kidini.
ਏਕੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥
ayk akhar jo gurmukh jaapai tis kee nirmal so-ee. ||3||
But the one who follows the Guru’s teachings and meditates on the eternal God’s Name, acquires a spotlessly pure reputation. ||3||
Lakini yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu wa milele, anapata sifa safi isiyo na doa.
ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੂਦ ਵੈਸ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਾਝਾ ॥
