ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ॥੫॥
aapay thaap uthaap sabad nivaaji-aa. ||5||
You Yourself create and destroy everything; You yourself glorify a person through the Guru’s word. ||5||
Wewe Mwenyewe unaumba na kuangamiza kila kitu; Wewe Mwenyewe unatukuza mtu kupitia kwa neno la Guru.
ਦੇਹੀ ਭਸਮ ਰੁਲਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਕਹ ਗਇਆ ॥
dayhee bhasam rulaa-ay na jaapee kah ga-i-aa.
After leaving the body to roll in dust, it is not known where the soul goes after death?
Baada ya kuacha mwili katika mchanga, haujulikani ambapo roho inaenda baada ya kifo?
ਆਪੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ਸੋ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਭਇਆ ॥੬॥
aapay rahi-aa samaa-ay so vismaad bha-i-aa. ||6||
which in itself is a great wonder; but O’ God! You yourself are pervading everywhere. ||6||
ambayo yenyewe ni ajabu kubwa; lakini Ee Mungu! Wewe Mwenyewe unaenea kote.
ਤੂੰ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੂਰਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥
tooN naahee parabh door jaaneh sabh too hai.
O’ God, all know that You are not far off, it is You who is pervading everywhere.
Ee Mungu, wote wanajua kwamba Wewe haupo mbali, ni Wewe ambaye unaenea kila mahali.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੀ ਤੂ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
gurmukh vaykh hadoor antar bhee too hai. ||7||
the Guru’s followers see You right in front of them and realize that You are also dwelling within them. ||7||
wafuasi wa Guru wanakuona Wewe mbele yao tu na wanagundua kwamba Wewe pia unaisi ndani mwao.
ਮੈ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
mai deejai naam nivaas antar saaNt ho-ay.
O’ God! bless me that Naam may reside in me, so that peace wells up within.
Ee Mungu! Nibariki ili Naam iweze kuishi ndani mwangu, ili amani ijae ndani mwangu.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥੮॥੩॥੫॥
gun gaavai naanak daas satgur mat day-ay. ||8||3||5||
O’ Nanak! that devotee, whom the true Guru imparts wisdom, always sings the praises of God. ||8||3||5||
Ee Nanak! Mtawa huyo, ambaye Guru wa kweli anamfunza hekima, daima anaimba sifa za Mungu.

One eternal God, realized by the grace Of the True Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa Kweli:
ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
naamai hee tay sabh kichh ho-aa bin satgur naam na jaapai.
O’ my friends, it is from God’s Name that everything happens, but without the Guru’s teachings, Naam cannot be comprehended and appreciated.
Ee marafiki wangu, ni kutoka kwa Jina la Mungu ambapo kila kitu kinatendeka, lakini bila mafundisho ya Guru, Naam haiwezi kueleweka wala kuthaminiwa.
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
gur kaa sabad mahaa ras meethaa bin chaakhay saad na jaapai.
The Guru’s divine word is sweet like sublime essence, but it cannot be experienced without understanding it.
Neno takatifu la Guru ni tamu kama kiini tukufu, lakini haliwezi kufurahiwa bila kulielewa.
ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੈ ॥
ka-udee badlai janam gavaa-i-aa cheenas naahee aapai.
The one who doesn’t reflect on one’s own self, wastes his life in vain.
Yule ambaye hatafakari kuhusu nafsi yake mwenyewe, anaharibu maisha yake bure.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥੧॥
gurmukh hovai taa ayko jaanai ha-umai dukh na santaapai. ||1||
But when one follows the Guru’s teachings, he recognizes one God alone and then the malady of ego doesn’t afflict him . ||1||
Lakini wakati mtu anafuata mafundisho ya Guru, yeye anatambua Mungu Mmoja peke yake na kisha ugonjwa wa ubinafsi haumathiri.
ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪਣੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
balihaaree gur apnay vitahu jin saachay si-o liv laa-ee.
I am dedicated to my Guru who imbues one with the love of God.
Mimi nimewekwa wakfu kwa Guru wangu anayepenyeza mtu na upendo wa Mungu.
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabad cheeneh aatam pargaasi-aa sehjay rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One becomes spiritually enlightened by reflecting on the Guru’s word and remains absorbed in celestial peace and poise. ||1||Pause||
Mtu anaangazwa kiroho kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru na anabaki amevama katika amani na utulivu wa kimbingu. ||1||Sitisha||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
gurmukh gaavai gurmukh boojhai gurmukh sabad beechaaray.
O’ my friends, a Guru’s follower sings praises of God, he understands and reflects on the Guru’s divine word.
Ee marafiki wangu, mfuasi wa Guru anaimba sifa za Mungu, yeye anaelewa na kutafakari kuhusu neno takatifu la Guru.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
jee-o pind sabh gur tay upjai gurmukh kaaraj savaaray.
Guru’s follower’s body and soul are totally rejuvenated through the Guru’s grace and he successfully resolves his affairs through the Guru’s teachings.
Mwili na akili ya mfuasi wa Guru inasisimuliwa kikamilifu kupitia neema ya Guru naye anatatua shughuli zake vyema kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥
manmukh anDhaa anDh kamaavai bikh khatay sansaaray.
A spiritually blind self-willed person does foolish deeds and earns only the worldly riches which is nothing but poison for his spiritual life.
Mtu kipofu wa kiroho mwenye hiari binafsi anatenda vitendo pumbavu na anachuma tu utajiri wa kidunia ambao ni sumu tu kwa maisha yake ya kiroho.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੨॥
maa-i-aa mohi sadaa dukh paa-ay bin gur at pi-aaray. ||2||
Therefore without following the teachings of the dearly beloved Guru, he remains in love of worldly riches and always endures misery. ||2||
Hivyo basi bila kufuata mafundisho ya Guru anayependwa mno, anabaki katika upendo wa utajiri wa kidunia na daima anavumilia taabu.
ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਚਾਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥
so-ee sayvak jay satgur sayvay chaalai satgur bhaa-ay.
One who follows the true Guru’s teachings and does what pleases the Guru, becomes the true devotee of God.
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli na anatenda kinachopendeza Guru, anakuwa mtawa wa kweli wa Mungu.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
saachaa sabad sifat hai saachee saachaa man vasaa-ay.
He understands that the Guru’s divine word of God’s praises is eternal; he keeps the eternal God enshrined in his mind.
Yeye anaelewa kwamba neno takatifu la Guru la sifa za Mungu ni la milele; yeye anathamini Mungu wa milele akilini mwake.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
sachee banee gurmukh aakhai ha-umai vichahu jaa-ay.
A follower of the Guru keeps reciting the divine words of God’s praises, and in this way his ego departs from within.
Mfuasi wa Guru anaendelea kukariri maneno takatifu ya sifa za Mungu, na kwa njia hii ubinafsi wake unaondoka kutoka ndani mwake.
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੩॥
aapay daataa karam hai saachaa saachaa sabad sunaa-ay. ||3||
A Guru’s follower believes that God Himself is the benefactor and His grace is eternal; he also recites the divine word of God’s praises to others. ||3||
Mfuasi wa Guru anaamini kwamba Mungu Mwenyewe ndiye mfadhili na neema yake ni ya milele; yeye pia anakariri neno takatifu la sifa za Mungu kwa wengine.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖਟੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਏ ॥
gurmukh ghaalay gurmukh khatay gurmukh naam japaa-ay.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings, he makes the effort of remembering God and earns the wealth of Naam; he motivates others also to meditate on Naam.
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru, yeye anafanya jitihada ya kumkumbuka Mungu na anachuma utajiri wa Naam; yeye anahamasisha wengine pia kutafakari kuhusu Naam.
ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
sadaa alipat saachai rang raataa gur kai sahj subhaa-ay.
Being blessed with the serene and poised nature bestowed by the Guru and imbued with the love of God, he always remains detached from Maya.
Kwa kubarikiwa na hali tulivu na shwari iliyotawazwa na Guru na kwa kupenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu, yeye daima anabaki amejitenga kutoka kwa Maya.
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਕੂੜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੀਜੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਏ ॥
manmukh sad hee koorho bolai bikh beejai bikh khaa-ay.
Whereas a self-willed person always utters lies, sows seeds of falsehood and also reaps falsehood
Ilhali mtu mwenye hiari binafsi daima anatamka uongo, anapanda mbegu za udanganyifu na pia anavuna udanganyifu
ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਧਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਵਣੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥੪॥
jamkaal baaDhaa tarisnaa daaDhaa bin gur kavan chhadaa-ay. ||4||
He is bound by the demon of death and burnt in the fire of desire; who can save him, except the Guru? ||4||
Yeye anafungwa na pepo wa kifo na kuchomwa katika moto wa tamaa; nani anaweza kumuokoa, isipokuwa Guru?
ਸਚਾ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
sachaa tirath jit sat sar naavan gurmukh aap bujhaa-ay.
God Himself bestows this understanding to the Guru’s follower that the true place of pilgrimage for ablution is the Guru’s divine word.
Mungu Mwenyewe anatawaza uelewa huu kwa mfuasi wa Guru kwamba mahali pa kweli pa hija ya utakaso ni neno takatifu la Guru.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਾਤੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
athsath tirath gur sabad dikhaa-ay tit naatai mal jaa-ay.
God reveals to him all the places of pilgrimage in the Guru’s divine word, bathing in which the filth of vices is washed away.
Mungu anadhihirisha kwake mahali pote pa hija katika neno takatifu la Guru, ambayo kwa kuoga kwake uchafu wote wa maovu unasafishwa.
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਲੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachaa sabad sachaa hai nirmal naa mal lagai na laa-ay.
He believes that the Guru’s word is eternal and immaculate, it neither catches the dirt of vices nor imparts the dirt of ego to the person who bathes in it.
Yeye anaamini kwamba neno la Guru ni la milele na ni takatifu, kamwe halichafuliwi na maovu wala kuweka uchafu wa ubinafsi kwa mtu anayeoga ndani mwake.
ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥
sachee sifat sachee saalaah pooray gur tay paa-ay. ||5||
He learns from the perfect Guru about the true praises of the eternal God.||5||
Yeye anajifunza kutoka kwa Guru kamili kuhusu sifa za kweli za Mungu wa milele.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥
tan man sabh kichh har tis kayraa durmat kahan na jaa-ay.
This body, mind and everything belongs to God; but the evil-minded person cannot even understand this.
Mwili huu, akili na kila kitu ni cha Mungu; lakini mtu mwenye fikira ovu hawezi hata kuelewa hii.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
hukam hovai taa nirmal hovai ha-umai vichahu jaa-ay.
It is only when God so commands that one’s mind becomes pure, and ego departs from within.
Ni wakatu tu ambapo Mungu anaamrisha hivyo ambapo akili ya mtu inakuwa safi, na ubinafso unaondoka kutoka ndani mwake.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਚਾਖੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
gur kee saakhee sehjay chaakhee tarisnaa agan bujhaa-ay.
Then intuitively he tastes the relish of Guru’s teachings, which quenches his fire of worldly desires.
Kisha anaonja kiburudisho cha mafundisho ya Guru kisilika, kinachozima moto wa hamu za kidunia.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੬॥
gur kai sabad raataa sehjay maataa sehjay rahi-aa samaa-ay. ||6||
He becomes imbued with the love of Guru’s word and intuitively remains elated and absorbed in spiritual peace and poise. ||6||
Yeye anapenyezwa na upendo wa neno la Guru na kisilika anabaki amefurahia na kuvama katika amani na utulivu wa kiroho.
